Facts. I have a diagnosis of alcohol use disorder, moderate. Medical detox was harsh and and my body went through it during my first nine months of being sober. Guess what? I found that cravings for food products with processed sugar were more frequent and intense than those for alcohol. But, withdrawal from processed sugar was not near as difficult as I anticipated. Processed sugar is insanely addictive. I'm glad I quit.

My energy levels are better. Next I'm cutting out the things that turn into sugar in the body. NEXT UPDATE: I didn't stay off added sugar. Ended up realizing it's not necessary, but getting off of it for the time that I did was a crucial step in my journey. I have obtained 6 pack abs and I do partake in sugar. I do recommend taking a break from it, but quitting it entirely isn't necessary

Basically, almost anything that was processed because there is so much added sugar in processed food. I dropped 33 pounds in the 2 months! Granted, the first 2 weeks are tough but you just need to be strong and tell yourself that it is over in 2 months. I look and feel great! I cut the sugar out a couple of years ago. In my own personal experience, none of these things happened in the first two weeks. To be clear, all of these things absolutely happened, just not as quickly.
The first week was hell on earth. I couldn't focus, my memory was screwy, I got irritated much easier, I constantly felt hungry, and I was exhausted. The one thing not mentioned enough here is that our bodies are physically addicted to sugar, so when we cut it out, we go through withdraw. There's a lot of similarity with drug addicts. Our drug is sugar.
If any of you are thinking about doing this, just stick with it through the first week or two. Once your body gets through the withdraw, all of the items on this list kick in and you will feel better than you have ever felt. The weight falls off, your mind clears, your energy returns, foods you never thought would fill you up will make you full. It's 100% worth it. I dropped 50 pounds in less than a year, I started writing again, and I was just happier with my life.
Just know you have to get through that physical withdraw first. Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Actually, when I tried it the first time I also felt really bad, I was fatigued and couldn't concentrate from the first day so I stopped. What I noticed was that I was doing it the wrong way. I thought the reason it didn't work for me is because I have 2 autoimmune diseases which are Hashimoto's and Graves disease. I was wrong and the reason why It didn't work for me the first time was because I wasn't drinking any electrolytes during the day. I made sure that I had a total of around 2,000 mg - 2,500 mg of Himalayan sea salt or real salt per day which is equal to 1 tea spoon a day. My current weight is 139 and my height is 5.3 feet so I feel fine with this sodium amount but much taller people who weigh more need 1-3 teaspoons a day. I also made sure I was eating 3,000 - 4,700 mg of potassium per day from veggies and protein and make sure to take a minimum of 400 mg of magnesium per day. If anyone starts doing this from the first day doing keto you won't experience any side effects. Also, make sure you're eating the correct calories and macros for your weight and height. I was overeating and adding too much butter to my food and noticed that butter made me feel worst so I had to replace butter with guee the second time and now I feel amazing and have no more fatigue or lack of concentration. Before I had to sleep 10 - 12 hours to feel I had had some sleep and now only sleep 7 hours and feel energized.

I stopped eating sugar just over I was 1 year ago (in July) & it is the single best health decision I’ve ever made. I use raw honey in my coffee & it tasted so much better. I lost 40 lbs in 5 months of cutting sugar. I then removed all white food from my diet; starched, bleached foods. That took me down another 15 lbs. I was up to 205 lbs & am now 150 at age 50. I’ve never felt better. My knees work again & I don’t huff & puff. It’s all about what you put into your body. ❤
Edit since people don’t know the difference. Sugar has refined sugar that is MUCH more unhealthy than honey. I didn’t think I’d have to put “I stopped eating refined sugar” but I guess I do since there are so many dense know it alls in the comments.

Regarding urine, it's been three months ago since I almost completely stopped eating stuff with sugar. I'm a truck driver here in Texas. I drive from Austin to Houston on a daily basis. Before I stopped eating all kinds of food with sugar and drinking Dr. Pepper, I would stop at least two to three times to urinate at gas stations or truck stops. But now that I almost completely stop eating and drinking sugar, I can actually drive to Houston or return to Austin without stopping two or three times to urinate. Yes, my face is a lot slimmer and my gut is almost gone. Went from a size 36 to 34 on the first month, second month, down to a size 32, and now I'm a size 31. I have more mental focus, more energetic, and my fingers on my feet and hands no longer feel numb. My doctor was very impressed since the last time I saw her for my yearly visit. Thanks for your RUclips channel, I almost feel like a teenager. Much success and blessings in everything you do Dr. Berg. Cheers from Austin Texas.

I did this and still drink beer sometimes and have lost 58 pounds since February (7 months). I was 258 now 200 (6 foot tall). Mainly just drink black coffee and water. Cut out a lot of bread and no more sweets or creamer. My blood pressure is way down - 115/78 instead of 140 to 150 over 90 to 100. My heart rate is also a lot lower - 60 resting. I feel way better. I am a lot less hungry too. I still eat carbs sometimes, but not nearly as much and focus more on vegetables and meat and have a low carb nut bar for breakfast usually or eggs. Cutting out the sweets and carbs does wonders. I’ve always worked out, but never had the results until I lowered the carbs. I now fit into large shirts and maybe am a 32 waist instead of 36. I am lucky this video was suggested to me by RUclips. This video changed my life and I can’t thank Eric Berg enough for making this video.

I stopped eating sugar on January 3rd 2019. i went from 189 Lbs to 155Lbs. i`m still there to this day. I intermittent fast 4 days a week and I limit my carbs to around 50 to 75 a day. I used to be on 30 total carbs in 2019. My bloodwork is perfect. My doctor is can`t believe how great my bloodwork is! He says my good cholesterol is so high it destroys my bad cholesterol . To this day my weight only changes about 2 lbs either way. I`m 63. People can`t believe I still eat the same way almost 4 years later.

    Excerpts:
What would happen if you gave up sugar for just two weeks.
    1. Changes in your face and midsection
Your face would become slimmer, and you would lose weight in your midsection because your liver is releasing fat.
    2. Improvements in your eyes, brain, arteries, and kidneys
You'll experience a lot of benefits and potential improvements in these four areas of the body when you cut out sugar.
    3. Decreased urination at night
You'll get up less at night to urinate because water follows sugar. Consuming sugar triggers urination, especially at night.
    4. More energy
Your body is forced to run on fat fuel instead of sugar fuel. Your body has more calories from stored fat to use as fuel, giving you more energy.
    5. Cravings between meals go away
Your cravings and appetite will go away between meals because even though you're not eating, your body is satisfied by your own fat.
    6. Less stiffness, pain, and inflammation
These issues can start to improve when you stop consuming sugar, and you may notice less of a need for certain medications.
    7. Weight loss
You're going to lose water weight as well as actual fat. Many different health benefits also come with losing weight.
    8. Better skin
You may notice improvements in your skin because of a drop in inflammation.
    9. Improves insulin resistance
Insulin resistance is at the heart of many health conditions. But, when you give up sugar, you can start to improve insulin resistance.
    Thank you Dr Berg!! 🐱👍🏿

I heard it feeds cancer. Response from her was “ sugar does NOT feed cancer! That is a myth!”I just shut up around her after this point. Later I went to pick him up and she had left for the day and forgot to write him an order for food. I raised heck at that point. But what they tell older people to eat is crap. I stopped eating sugar on February 15th of this year. I’m down 67 pounds as of today. It’s very true that your face will start to lose its puffiness. I noticed that my mood has improved, I feel more level headed and focused. I cut way down on carbs too. I’m so proud of myself! I spent so much time in and out of gyms but I was working out just so I could eat whatever I wanted to. This time around, I thought it was more important for me to fix my diet. I pay more attention to what happens to my body when I eat certain foods and that’s why I’ve been able to keep the weight off without going to the gym. Eventually I’ll go to tone up but I’d rather just keep the focus on what I’m eating/not eating for right now.

It is hard to get a good balance of these two nutrients from natural sources, so bananas are helpful to the body in that way. I will add that according to some nutritionists bananas should be eaten on their own, not combined with other fruits, or baked into breads and muffins. If you mash the banana and stir it vigorously into a glass of water and drink it, it has a very nourishing effect.

I dropped 60 lbs a few years ago like it was nothing - went from 213 to 153. Half my friends were bugging me to find out what fad diet I was on. The other half thought I had some illness like cancer since I had dropped 60 lbs in a matter of months like it was nothing. I mean the weight poured off me like water. I kept telling them that all I did was cut almost all the sugar out of my diet and no one wanted to believe me. I told them that there's so much sugar in daily stuff that they're not even aware of. I mean, I would go shopping for diet meals back then like lean cuisine or weight watchers only to see on the ingredients that some of them had upwards of 15-20 grams of sugar! That's not a diet meal! It's insane how much added sugar there is in everything.
The first two weeks were the worst. I would get these crazed hunger attacks...like I'd eat and a half hour later my stomach would growl and I'd feel like I was gonna pass out. But I realized that the sugar was a drug and I was going through withdrawal. What's amazing is that once I made it past the two weeks, all of a sudden, ANY sugar was too much for me. Whereas in the past I could eat a whole candy bar, now I'd break off one square from a hershey bar and I'm fine. Any more than that and I want to gag because it's too much sugar. Sodas? Same thing - I gag just putting them in my mouth. Once you get past the sugar cravings and come out the other end the rest is easy because once you get over the sugar, you lose your taste for it because the amount they put in daily foods and drinks is so much that the smallest taste and you gag.

I've watched your channel for years and you've hammered this point home. I've been resisted but final cut the sugar and carbs going on three weeks. The biggest difference I've noticed is less hunger. It's 9 pm, and I've only had a small meal at 230pm. I haven't needed my mid day naps either. I didn't realize until watching your video that I've been sleeping through the night without going to the bathroom; I didn't know there was a connection. Thanks doc!

I gave up all PROCESSED sugar four years ago, and lost about 30 lbs, 140 to 110 (I'm 5'8"). I still eat healthy food with natural occurring sugar as in fruits and vegtables, and stay cognizant of carbs. I just don't overdue it.

People who need to lose a lot of weight need to really take this guy's advice to heart. 3 months ago I weighed 318 lbs. I was tired all the time, lethargic, and didn't feel like doing anything at all except watch tv. I decided to lose at least 100 lbs and all I did was STOP EATING SUGAR. No pasta, no rice, no bread, no potatoes, no pizza, no doughnuts or pastries or cookies or cake or ice cream, you name it, I stopped eating it. And I gave up soda cold turkey. I've been eating only MEAT and drinking only WATER or unsweetened ice tea and I've lost nearly 50 lbs. I noticed everything he talks about. First my face and neck got thinner, then my waist (I can now wear pants I couldn't wear for the last 5 years). I feel more energetic and I'm getting a lot more done around the house and basically enjoying life again! I will continue this until I reach 200 lbs which I feel will be an ideal weight for me as I am 6' tall. I will never go back to the SAD that got me and most of us into this mess over the last 50 years. Its gonna be low to no carbs for me from now on. Thing is, I love bacon, steak, prime rib, ribs, hamburgers, pork chops, eggs and cheese so giving up sugar was easy. Don't be afraid to give it a try. You will spend a few days on the crapper as your body makes the switch from using sugar to using fat as fuel, but it passes after a few days and you'll be right as rain. Best of luck.

I have diabetes. When I was first told, 2 years ago, I went hard-core on my diet. Cut all sugars, and I ate nothing but green vegetables and grilled chicken with only kosher salt and black pepper for seasoning at dinner; salad for lunch with a slightly more expensive olive oil(tasted better than the cheap stuff); eggs for breakfast. I only drank water.
After 3 months, I visited a nutritionist, and she said I was doing it wrong and gave me a plan that included sugars. Needless to say, I fell off the bandwagon, and I feel like garbage again. I've been talking with my wife about going back on my diet. Coming across your video has given me some much needed inspiration!

My family didn't get fool by the US government big hype "alternative healthy fat" in the '90 during Democrat-Clinton's administration, especially knowingly how native Indians got treated in this country. We always cook with pork fat, butter, coconut oil and we're almost near retirement now with no health issue. I'm 55 and my cardio is equivalence to teenager. Life is good as long as you create your own path and never to follow the heard...As for sugar, it has been around the world since stone-ages. Cutting-out all forms of sugar changed my life completely. It's insane how this molecule can cause so much damage in the body to the point where people think being sick is normal. I'll never go back to eating sugar.

I want to add that giving up sugar takes a massive commitment and initially the body craves sugar so much that you will need to be very determined and focused on your longer term goals and be able to not cave in. I have friends who say they tried it but it made them feel terrible. However it takes a while and they didn’t give it long enough. Great video for those who have tried other things and have now hit rock bottom.....that was me

Yes! It's hard! It takes commitment, emotional strength, cooking more, careful shopping, and other things. And the cravings don't go away in 3 days. Maybe that's the experience for some people, but not me, and I'm sure for many others. I've read several places that it takes a week to start feeling better. It was a week for me until the intense cravings and bad moods stopped, and then after 2 weeks I finally had very little craving for sugar plus my health felt better. Every person is different.

Specific nutrients have been identified to eliminate sugar cravings. Glutamine and omega 3s. In my opinion, both these nutrients are crucial because it comes with other nutrients in natural foods that the body requires. They are in real foods. Not processed foods, and not supplements. One is a essential fat, the other isn't essential but foods with that amino acid typically contain lots of nutrients that are essential.

Yeah, sugar is one of those things that you should not cut out cold turkey or you’ll get terrible headaches. But I did his first cut out consuming sugary drinks and desserts. Once your body acclimate to that, then you can water fast or keto diet. Otherwise you’ll be miserable.

I stopped eating sugar 1 year and 4 months ago and I’ve never gone back. I was in chronic pain and took max doses of oxycodone for over 10 years. I always felt awful and I covered it up with opioids. When my doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and wanted to put me on meds I decided to change my diet. I had no idea that quitting sugar iwould affect me like it has. I lost 50 lbs, I look and feel 20 years younger, I’m no longer pre-diabetic, no brain fog, I am so happy I went on this journey. I don’t take pain medication at all and I have no pain! Thank you Dr Berg.

Just cut sugar out 3 days because I was doing a candida cleanse. Everything you said in this video is 100% true.. I’ve lost 4 lbs surprisingly and couldn’t understand why. Thank you so much for all information given in this clip and all your videos. At first I was only thinking about doing the cleanse but now with all the results I’m seeing and after watching this, I’m cutting out sugar and carbs. The results are almost immediate and my pain and inflammation is slowly disappearing. Had no idea sugar and carbs were contributing to it all. ❤️❤️❤️
