Dear Sten, would you please consider an episode on the roles of fructose and URIC ACID on metabolic syndrom, fat storage, weight gain, diabetes insulin rsistence and blood pressure via NO - not only gout.
All of this in context of endogeneously produced fructose from a paleo survival pathway.
We humans and also great apes have an about 15 m years old mutation in the enzyme which gets us into trouble with a sofern high fructose diet.

In 1978 when I was very young and so sad being obese in high school I came across a booklet I ordered from one of those supermarket tabloid newspapers. Long story short, I went cold turkey & 0 carbs each day for the 1st week. I felt horrible, but then the 2nd week I ate 10 carbs per day, the 3rd week I ate 20 carbs per day, and so on. I lost 75lbs over summer break easily & by the time I got to eating 70 carbs per day I ended up putting on 2lbs that week. So I learned to keep my carb intake at 70 per day if I wanted to maintain my new sleek & fit body. Afterwards anything processed & fast food tasted like horrible chemicals to me & still does to this day. I actually still have the booklet!

For instance when I woke up this morning I had been fasting for 12 hours and my last meal was quite small. But I felt tons of energy and no hunger even though my stomach was empty. Waited another 6 hours + and just BARELY felt a little hungry before I broke my fast. Good sleep in a fasted state is incredible! At least for me.

When they start getting sick (& take it from someone it happened to, they will) cut their sugar out & replace it with Stevia & Xylitol; the latter of which tastes just like sugar, BUT is about 4x expensive per lb.
Then they'll see how much damage sugar has done to them.
As a vegetarian I've cut out an enormous amount of sugar, but I still eat a lot of vegetarian processed "meats" (soy based, etc.), but cutting out sugar from my coffee, switching from those sugar loaded juices (never a fan of 'sodas') to xylitol & stevia sweetened self made lemonade & ice tea & cutting out all alcohol for five years now, have & will make a real difference to my/your health.

I am also following ALL of your steps in ALL of your videos. I have lost 15 fat lbs in 4 weeks and hope to keep this up until I have lost 45-50 fat lbs. Fasting for 18 hours was much easier than I thought it would be. Fasting for 24 hours is getting easier. I am looking forward to my first every 48 hour fast starting today. Excellent video. My husband and I are 3 months carnivore and feeling great. For me, I just had to go cold turkey on carbs. And yes I did suffer for about 2 weeks. I don't think this approach will work for everyone but it's how I needed to do it. I no longer crave sugar/carbs at all.
My addiction to carbs wasn't to ice cream or other typical sweets. My addiction was to bread. I could not eat even one slice of any kind of bread without going on a bread eating frenzy. I still look longingly at toast with butter but it's emotional and not a physical craving. I tell myself "that's not food". I'll now add "you shall not pass".
A friend of mine was an alcoholic. She's not anymore and can even go to a bar with friends and not drink. I ask her how she is able to maintain her sobriety. She told me that if the only thing in life she can't do is drink alcohol, she's fine with that. She focuses on the innumerable other things in life that she can experience and never focuses on what she can't do. I was impressed by this approach and it clearly works for her . If I can't have bread there is an abundance of healthy fats and proteins I can have and and they are delicious.
I'm 76 and feeling wonderful without any addictions.❤

I’m sure you probably heard this many times before. But, as a radiologist and a fellow physician, I wanted to give you my heartfelt thanks for your video. I believe that you have extended my life with many additional good years. Based on your advice I cut out carbs and eat more fats, in only three months I lost 15-20 lbs, got my triglycerides down to 98 from 200, took my cholesterol down to 150 from 200 and my vldl down to 16 from 40. Plus, my hbh1c has gone down significantly. This in only 3 months! What I find disconcerting is how much bad advice is out there, when there is a whole body of evidence to show that what you recommend actually works. Big pharmaceuticals and food companies have no incentive to recommend what we really should be eating. And, until that changes, we will continue to have a metabolic crisis in this country. It’s very sad. Nevertheless, I am on the right path and I use much of excellent advice you give. Cannot express my thanks enough for what you do!

All the misinformation about 3 meals a day and 2 snacks, which prioritizes “complex” carbs have made so many Americans so metabolically unhealthy and has lead to the obesity problem across the US….and now across the globe! I found keto and carnivore 4 years ago. Within 1 year I lost 65 lbs and my body underwent remarkable re-composition with more lean muscle mass and much less fat. I put on and maintain muscle tone so much more easily than with the SAD diet. I have been able to maintain my weight to my college and med school level and dropped to single digit clothing size. I have so much more energy, brain fog is gone, and I am mentally so much sharper! Amazing what switching to a proper human diet can do. Congratulations to you on re-discovering good health.

Tortilla chips & salsa are my kryptonite, so I can’t have them in the house (I just had to throw away 1/2 a bag and jar. I succumbed recently 😞) It is very hard to eat keto/IF with a SAD eating husband and all of his “food” around. So many temptations in the house. But I WANT to stay focused because I look and feel so much better. You nailed it. WANTING, FEELING and WHY are key.
I LOVE that you told us about your ice cream addiction. Thanks for showing us that you are human, like the rest of us!!

The way to stop sugar cravings is to deal with the emotions that are fueling them DIRECTLY instead of using food. How? I use open mouth humming and wailing. That gets the ENERGY of the unresolved grief that’s stuck in my body OUT of my body.
*If you’re willing to eat anything, you’re eating out of hunger.
*If you’re eating to satisfy a craving, you’re eating out of emotion.

Sugar is the only thing that I've ever developed a serious addiction to. I used to smoke cigarettes, and I quit 'cold turkey', with no problem at all. I consumed alcohol socially for many years, and I've quit that as well with no problem, but sugar is another matter completely. I actually went many years without consuming sugar, but I've let it back into my life and I don't like it at all. Working on this addiction is my number one goal this year.

My husband overcame tobacco and alcohol-cold turkey, and had to do it more than once.
On his last time for both, he dove into every single harmful aspect of these drugs, and it kept him from going back.
He also kept telling himself that he refused to make some jerks wealthy, at the expense of his health.
I have never struggled with either of these, and I hate the very smell of alcohol. However, sugar is definitely my thing!
So, here I am, doing what my husband did, eating up all of the information that I can on the harm it causes.

People who smoke say the same thing. Are they hurting themselves?
Maybe maybe not. Thought and believe does create our reality.
Don’t know where you live but here in United States we are bombarded with pharmaceutical drug commercials. Constantly telling us this could go wrong, that could go wrong with us, this statistic that statistic. (I mute the commercials so all I see is very happy people and not words convincing me that DRUG is necessary)
If people hear something over and over and over and over it’s going to get in their heads. They are going to start believing it. And we all know fear controls!
It’s what Hitler did. People heard his story so often that they went out and did the dirty work for him. (it’s just your typical narcissist and their flying monkeys except the ones you meet on a daily basis can only control a handful of people)
So according to quantum physics if you truly truly believe with all your being what you’re doing is not going to hurt you it won’t. The problem is all of those around you are saying it is gonna hurt you. So how thick is your bubble?

I satisfied my sweet tooth with blueberries and blackberries mixed into plain Greek yogurt- the highest fat content I could find. I added a little stevia and voila- soo good! Before starting I had borderline type 2 diabetes and was starting to experience numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes. I immediately felt an improvement after just one week. I continued for about 3 months and after a particularly busy and stressful time in my life, I noticed the tingling was occasionally creeping back. I then decided to ramp it up and also do intermittent fasting. What a huge difference. Tingling has been for 6 months and I lost a total of 30lbs. I am back to my 20 year old size and I feel great at age 62. My blood sugar level dropped and I am no longer on the borderline of type 2 diabetes. Great presentation as always, Sten. There's also some practical ways to stop the urge, like going for a walk or replacing the habit with drinking plain tea. And becoming thoughtful when reaching for snacks. Intermittent fasting also helps not going to the fridge all day long.

This is the video I’ve been waiting for! I’ve had great success since a switched to a primarily animal based diet last year, having lost 30kg in 4 months and completely eliminating my severe depression and anxiety. My one remaining weakness though is sugar, which I’ve discovered I’m hopelessly addicted to. It’s been a real struggle trying to resist the cravings but I’m making progress. Steadily decreasing my sugar intake seems to be a better approach to just going cold turkey and then succumbing to the inevitable binges.

My boyfriend, truly, 100% has a sugar tooth....took him about 6 days to get sugar out of his system. Good luck to you... you are doing so well. Don't buy into not able to come out of this... you absolutely will.

I don't know exactly why, but the way you present things is extremely empowering to me. Being a woman (challenged with various menopausal/hormonal related things), I also watch another doctor's content that has a very high number of subscribers, and she specializes in things women are challenged with in terms of fasting as well as hormonally. However, no matter how much I watch her videos I don't seem to be able to effectively act on what I'm learning about. And I don't want to put anyone down, especially people who are putting out very good, accurate and heartfelt content, but I just know that when I watch your content I get into action and actually start succeeding in sticking with things. So thank you for making these videos and taking the time to really present the material in a clear and dispassionate way. You're really making a difference in my life and my health!

Thanks for giving such a thorough common sense thorough explanation. I love your bluntness in explaining "I will try to" stop sugar! One thing to add here is that it is MUCH easier to keep away from ice cream if it is not in the house at all. Thus, getting your other family members to join the movement, is going to be helpful.

I'm on my second month of sugar and processed food free. I've lost 4 kilos, so am pretty chuffed. I suspect I'll plateau out on the next weigh-in, if so, I'll start monitoring the carbs and drop them gradually. Next week I'm starting an anti-inflammatory diet, so the initial month has been a great pre-cursor. Not sure if I'll get the benefits, but as they say, "if you never, never go, you'll never, never know"! It's worth a shot (I'm in my 60s and have chronic arthritis, which is extremely debilitating).

I was one of those (crazy) people who would skip dinner so I could have dessert, that's how addicted I was. Then, by accident, I started eating 1 meal a day. At first I ate whatever I wanted, no restrictions. Then here's what happened:
    1. I completely lost my craving for sugar
    2. I started craving good food, veggies, fruit, meat, nuts, etc.
    3. My chronic indigestion and bloating went away
    4. I wasn't hungry. In fact, I discovered that eating makes you hungry
This was years ago, before IF was a thing, and I had plenty of push back from friends and family, but I didn't care. I felt great and it has been a perfect lifestyle choice for me. Of course, now everybody's asking me about it. 😄

I find myself eating too much fruit. 3-5 servings per day. I say this because i am always looking for something sweet. The more “sweets I eat; the more I want. Between June 2018 and September 2019 I lost 54 pounds on WW. I ate a lot of fat-free/low fat and artificial sweeteners. The artificial sweeteners cause some health issues. So i started eating more carbs and whole fruits and vegetables. So in the last year I have re-gained 30+ pounds. I hate the way I feel.. I recently found your channel and what I hear makes a lot of sense to me. I am working on my mindset to get this weight off in a sustainable way. I do not feel well where I am now.

As a life long sugar addict, I have tried to give up sugar multiple times, currently on my third attempt.
The first time I did it, was in March 2020, for 9 months I went without sweet stuff, and did daily 16/8 or 18/6 - lost a bunch of weight and felt amazing, but I went back on sugar after thanksgiving.
The second time I did it, it was in 2023 January and I lasted three months and I did daily OMAD, and I kept thinking about sugar and obsessing over it.
This time, I am 28 days in, but I do longer fasts like 42 hours, or 72 hours, and I can say for sure, that 42 hours fasts for some reason has completely eliminated my sugar cravings. Not sure why, but that is what is working for me so far.

I'm forever grateful for my mother's knowing that sugar in my formative years was a _bad idea._ I never really cared too much about sweets and in fact threw out most of my Easter candy sometimes around the 4th of July, seriously! And she taught me about the "try" lie, too, before I was 5. I love her so much.
