Yeah, unfortunately it may catch up with him. My husband thought his high blood pressure and sleep apnea were no big deal. Had first stroke at 51, another milder one at 53, and was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (caused by years of uncontrolled high blood pressure) in July before his 54th birthday and died 4 months later. As you get older your body just isn't as resilient and forgiving. Contrast, my Dad was told he had high cholesterol and high blood pressure at about 50. Started walking most days per week for exercise, , improved his diet, lost a little weight (about 25 pounds) and lived to be just a month or so shy of 87. I also had high blood pressure, did low carb diet, lost about 50 pounds and got off the beta blocker. It can be done.
I think sugar addiction is influenced by personality and physical properties of person, because there are people who eat more sugar than they should- like 75 grams per day, from bad sources, but they dont go wild and like eat 3 slices of cake often. Where there are people who can normally drink like big bottle of Coca Cola and that alone is like 200 grams of sugar + sugar from food that day. Problem is,if one is addicted to sugar, eating fruit will continue the addiction. Few people with a sugar addiction will limit themselves to thirty grams of fruit. In my opinion, everything containing sugar needs to go,even fruit.

As s diabetic, the biggest change l face is avoiding sugar even when l have made a firm commitment. After you become diabetic is when you realise that almost everything contains sugar. Too much sugar being pushed by food industry. The options to avoid are minimal. Its the regulating authorities that need to play a greater role in discouraging use of u necessarily excessive sugar.

A balance of protein-carbs-fat. your body needs ALL 3 for optimum productivity. The necessity is choosing the best source of each. Good protein. Complex carbs. Healthful Fats.
Sugar is in almost all food - was eating good yesterday and after picking up my nephew - he stoped for food and had me try the very good choc chip cookie - damn gave in to sugar
Dr. Pepper is the devil. It won't stop drawing me back. I quit for almost a year and made the mistake of having a sip. Worst mistake. I regret it so much.
I am now one week with no sugar. I have in the past two years lost a 140. Ponds I did cold turkey. I want to get off all my meds . I work on this every day now I ride a road bike 40 miles 4 to 5 times a week .some how I have just gone keto I love filling so good it's sad howmuch sweets I woul eat .
I have a sugar addiction, and it's horrible because I work at Walmart. Every day after work I buy all kinds of crap food I know I shouldn't have. My store recently started selling ice cream sandwiches 😫
I do now how that feels. Please start with believing you can totally overcome that addiction. It's all about hormone regulation and insulin. Insulin stores the calories into our body as fat, and so we're forever looking for more carbs. Once we manage to understand and break this pattern , we consume fats and proteins instead, and those macro give us satiety. And when we do that long enough we lose the attraction for carbs, because our hormones have rebalanced.
Really helpful info about soluble and insoluble fiber and how they work together -- and now the food industry removes all fiber, then may add back soluble but not insoluble fiber.
I go to SCAA- sugar and carb addicts anonymous, and I work the program of recovery to the best of my ability. Sugar is a drug and it’s evil! Epilepsy, mental health probs, diabetes, Parkinson’s-Alzheimer’s -dementia (type 3 diabetes), pcos (type 4 diabetes), cancer (type 5 diabetes), brain fog, fibromyalgia, etc all strongly linked to sugar and carbs. The food industry is criminal! I’m keto-carnivore, I’ve never been healthier or felt better, but it’s not easy giving it up, it’s more addictive than cocaine!

About fiber freezing…I freeze cherries and blueberries. They are not mushy when unfrozen. While I fully accept his expertise, something is amiss in this explanation.
@@gerry8072personally I think they are softer, easily becoming mushy, when fresh. I prefer them frozen and thawed. Maybe they picked them early to freeze-before the softer stage. I would not call frozen thawed blueberries as mushy.
What worked for me at diet change that applies here: try gradually restricting the time of day you'll allow yourself to eat them. Start with none before noon. When you're comfortable with that, go to none before 2pm, and so on. Good luck.

You needed a study to prove the affects of sugar on children? Thought we already knew what sugar did to some children. Early 70s my little brother had hyperactive issues, doctor said cut sugar from his diet., it helped.
My rule is that I eat "low carb whole foods" 95 % of the time. If I stop by a nice Tunisian café , and end up eating three small baklavas, I don't beat myself up ! baklavas aren't the problem, if they're a rare treat ; hidden sugars are.
SimilSince we make a lot of experiments with animals and study their responses, since we have many similarities. I have one question. Monkeys eat basically fruits, why they don't have any problem with fructose? We are almost the same. even our DNA is 99% same. I understand that in their dietary, there are a lot fibers, but still, fructose is in high numbers. At this point, I would like to say that I followed everything the doctor is saying, and he saved my life!!
Wow. You were able to quit for almost a year-good for you! If I could make it for ONE DAY without a diet Dr Pepper, I would be so happy! As soon as I get a sip, I'm gone for the day. I "start over" every day. Good luck to you on your health journey!

Have seen hours of his videos and his website but other then being told to not eat sugar he just keeps harping on the problem vs giving advice (other than eating starch vs added sugar) on what to eat. IE where can I see a simple shopping list or menus?
You're right, but I've heard Dr Lustig say all fruit, all vegetables are fine. They have no label, they're unprocessed. Just figure out how to wash and cut up vegetables for a big salad, add some raw nuts, raw pumpkin seeds, add chicken breast, make oil and vinegar salad dressing.

Why Dr L. calls the UCSF study with sugar reduction in children fructose free diet? He said children got fruits, which are full of fructose. Yes, there is some fiber in fruits, but does it mean that fiber offset fructose effect??? I would very much appreciate a reply/ explanation Thank yoh
Do people really struggle that much? Just throw away any food that has added sugar in it. Keep a small jar of actual sugar for special occasions (visitors, birthday cake, etc). And at the grocery, only buy foods that haven’t been highly processed and have little to no sugar in it. You can’t binge eat on sugar if it’s not in the house.
Fiber doesn’t work for me. I can eat a bag of oranges, a whole watermelon, a pineapple. Why? How can I fix it to be satisfied by a cup of fruit instead of the whole damn thing.
Was told recently that because I was diabetic before the liver hasn’t learned how to deal with carbs and just stores them as fat. Still investigating. Sounds like the right path. Maybe more fasting to heal liver.

damn that Pepsi... the sugar free is awful... best i can substitute is unsweetened tea with lime .... arg.. ive quit softdrinks several times but the shit always weedles its way back... fastfood .. popcorn.... tacos... arg ... need strength cuz this shit is literally killing me.....maybe carnivore?
Get a water filter, so water tastes good.. The only thing that’s ever worked for me was to go cold turkey by going low-carb (20-30 carbs per day). No sugar or processed food (Cut it down as much as possible).. It will be hard for a few days, maybe a week.. Then the cravings go away and food tastes amazing. There is no one answer for everybody, but what works for me probably works for a lot of people.
Soft drinks ARE a real struggle to give up!! I also had to do it a few times before it finally stuck -- it's been twenty years now 🥳. This is what worked for me ... there are certain foods that you feel simply cannot be eaten without Coca-cola, or Pepsi, or whatever ... I substituted Welch's Concord Grape 🍇 Juice for Coke ... it's an acceptable substitute ... it will do. I did this for a year or two, can't remember, exactly. In that time, the Coca-cola addiction was completely broken, then I worked on substituting water for the juice -- you can do that gradually. I still love the juice, as I had some when it was right in front of me a few months ago, and then I craved it for a few weeks, but the key 🗝️ is not to have it around. Juice is easier to give up than the soda -- self control will do it -- but the soda is a drug -- it is formulated to addict! ☹️ Part of the secret is to hate it -- hate the fact that it was formulated to addict you, and to destroy your liver ☹️ -- learn about what it does to your liver, and thereby destroys your health. It helped me just to get angry enough 😡, that there are people who are so evil that they want to destroy my health for their profit 🤑! Sending my best wishes for your health! 😊

Wondering what Dr Lustig thinks about oxalate which is being claimed by book “toxic superfoods” as a toxin and causing insulin resistance. Any comments>?
Nonsense! I've eaten a zero-sugar diet before (except for fruit), & I can (& will, if I allow myself any leeway, due to my sugar-addiction) eat virtually unlimited fruit. However, the fiber does nothing to slow down or limit my fruit intake. Therefore, I end up with all sorts of health issues from the fruit sugar. My solution is to simply no longer eat any fruit (or any direct sugar from any source) so that I don't fall into my sugar addiction trap.
Its interesting how some people eat excess sugar in diet like 75 grams per day, but they dont go wild- like eat whole 200 gram chocolate or drink 2 litres of Coca Cola. They do get sugar from bad source- coffee, juices, cakes, cookies etc, but they like dont drink like entire 1litre apple juice like i did before when i ate lot of sugar. Its like based on person, will you get addicted to certain level or not. Because if it is so addictive in general, all people who lets say drinked 3 glasses of apple juice would get startet addiction, but they dont, next time they drink 2 glasses etc. So, they say sugar is more addictive than heroin, yes, to certain people, but not in general.
Eat foods in their natural state. Don't buy boxes or cans or packages of food that have a list of ingredients. A vegetable doesn't have a list of ingredients. An avocado has just one natural ingredient. A fresh fish has just one ingredient.
The Asians and Europeans walk to everything and burn more of what they eat. They also don’t have as much access to sweets as we do. It’s less available and more expensive. It’s a cultural thing. They grab real food for a quick meal, and not a bag of chips or a donut.
I’ll give someone 100 bucks if they can tell me the difference between eating 1. A banana, 2. A Reese cup, multivitamin, and fiber supplement What is the effective difference between 1 and 2
RUclips is censoring my comments. When my body needs orange juice vitamin c buy two bags every 6 months and replenish my body with vitamin c. Wish I had known this when I was 20, so now at 50, my liver must be so bad, if I stop eating sugar, would my liver recover to be healthy? or how many years will it take? thank you 🙏
Never mind the sugar and dopamine-I wish I had his memory !
You're so right. I could argue anything.
We never used to have HIGH-FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP.
I’m going to have my dentist extract my sweet tooth 🦷 Hopefully it’s not a front tooth 😅 Sadly it’s a big problem for most.
Thanks
Problem is,if one is addicted to sugar, eating fruit will continue the addiction. Few people with a sugar addiction will limit themselves to thirty grams of fruit. In my opinion, everything containing sugar needs to go,even fruit.
I just realized that!
That's not true. I cured mine and one does not eat a mass of fruit, because fruit doesn't cause the same effect
@zeynepgucbilmez8152 the body doesn't know the difference, from the sugar in fruit or a candy bar.
If you’re NAFLD fruit is actually worse than sugar. Fructose can only be processed in the liver.
Agreed! I can't eat fruit, I want cake after that!!!
Very very well explained. And thank you for explaining the subject of fruit & fruit juice !

Amazing interview Mr Bopst.
Doctor Robert Lustig, I am a huge fan of yours and a moderate fan of Goddess Glucose I only eat one meal a day@11am I also ride a bicycle for exercise and drink vinegar water when I go home The meal I want is a big bowl of steamed cauliflower, broccoli guacamole, garlic, vinegar, some seeds and nuts some days have wild caught salmon. Sugar is in almost all food - was eating good yesterday and after picking up my nephew - he stoped for food and had me try the very good choc chip cookie - damn gave in to sugar
If you give up all sugar and only ate protein and fat, in TWO WEEKS you’d be astonished at the results.
I find that the way to have a healthy diet is to buy only single ingredient foods and cook for yourself (with a few splurges).
Dr. Pepper is the devil. It won't stop drawing me back. I quit for almost a year and made the mistake of having a sip. Worst mistake. I regret it so much.

Haha I never heard of a Dr. Pepper addiction. I always loved it but its not that common in San Francisco where I live.

I have a sugar addiction, and it's horrible because I work at Walmart. Every day after work
I buy all kinds of crap food I know
I shouldn't have.
Oh no. Not ice cream sandwiches.
NOOOOOOOOOH! OMG!😂
Great info thank you so much
Yeah it was about 3 weeks, with a very controlled small cheat dose each Friday, during that time, and then the desire really fell off.
Really helpful info about soluble and insoluble fiber and how they work together -- and now the food industry removes all fiber, then may add back soluble but not insoluble fiber.
I go to SCAA- sugar and carb addicts anonymous, and I work the program of recovery to the best of my ability.

Epilepsy, mental health probs, diabetes, Parkinson’s-Alzheimer’s -dementia (type 3 diabetes), pcos (type 4 diabetes), cancer (type 5 diabetes), brain fog, fibromyalgia, etc all strongly linked to sugar and carbs.
The food industry is criminal!
I’m keto-carnivore, I’ve never been healthier or felt better, but it’s not easy giving it up, it’s more addictive than cocaine!
where can I find this group in my area ?
same here 67 yr old carnivore for 2 years with a sugar addiction the whole time. i struggle so much with sugar while still having improvements in my body monthly. it was a big change to start so i have been gentle with myself and have achieved all carbs gone but sugar. i will not stop fighting the addiction to sugar. the biggest improvement that is very strange to me is that after 19 months of carnivore and till today 23 months my skin is healing when i did not know it was sick. age spots on my face are turning dry and flaky and coming off slowly!

About fiber freezing…I freeze cherries and blueberries. They are not mushy when unfrozen. While I fully accept his expertise, something is amiss in this explanation.
Don’t know about cherries but I think freezing blueberries definitely changes them.
@@gerry8072personally I think they are softer, easily becoming mushy, when fresh. I prefer them frozen and thawed. Maybe they picked them early to freeze-before the softer stage. I would not call frozen thawed blueberries as mushy.
Freezing doesn't reduce the fiber content, only changes the texture molecularly. The fiber is still present in the Full amount.

85% of fruit. Yes. Can’t eat almost nothing. Everything has ADDED suger and or sodium.

There are NO essential carbohydrates...your "balanced" approach is terrible for many. Plants are what my food eats.
I hate fish but I know it's good for us.
Thank you very much.
Does coconut milk have fructose? 😊
But we do have frozen broccoli, cauliflower, etc. These have fiber and are ok frozen.
Bc they are different than us. Simple. And what they eat isn't processed.

I would very much appreciate a reply/ explanation
Thank yoh
Maybe more fasting to heal liver.
can we drink sugar cane juice or jaggery instead of added sugar

Get a water filter, so water tastes good.. The only thing that’s ever worked for me was to go cold turkey by going low-carb (20-30 carbs per day). No sugar or processed food (Cut it down as much as possible).. It will be hard for a few days, maybe a week.. Then the cravings go away and food tastes amazing. There is no one answer for everybody, but what works for me probably works for a lot of people.
Carnivore diet is a good idea!

🙋🏽 same
I have heard of this dopamine fast...less people have self discipline today..
Why, why then isn't Peptide YY Hormone not used (synthesized) in pill form as a Weight loss remedy? ...or is it?
Lets Bregenerate our dopamine receptors

Eat foods in their natural state. Don't buy boxes or cans or packages of food that have a list of ingredients. A vegetable doesn't have a list of ingredients. An avocado has just one natural ingredient. A fresh fish has just one ingredient.

Give up everything. In Europe and Asia, no one has to give up anything because food is all natural thrre. Theyvuse cane sugar, not the bad sugar here.
Cane sugar is refined sugar. It’s fiberless. He said this in the video.
The Asians and Europeans walk to everything and burn more of what they eat. They also don’t have as much access to sweets as we do. It’s less available and more expensive. It’s a cultural thing. They grab real food for a quick meal, and not a bag of chips or a donut.
