CA Osasuna is a club with a history, an identity and a fan base like no other. A club that represents a region and culture so uniquely, refusing to play on any other terms but their own.
Only problem is, they've never won anything!
So when the club qualified for only their second-ever Copa Del Rey final in their 103 year history, we had to be there to witness such a special moment.
This isn’t just David v Goliath, it’s more than that. It’s Once In A Lifetime.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the latest episode of the award winning series, 'Once In A Lifetime' a show that takes an anthropological dive into the football clubs and fanbases you don't know about, but really should, as they face the prospect of a rare chance at finally winning something.

Man, sometimes I feel like i live under a rock.. I know about Basque especially Euskara being an enigmatic language of mystery, and on the other hand it's a minoritized language that faced decades of dictatorship and fascism. That and some modest info about Athletic Bilbao.. never bothered to question the meaning of Osasuna, nor even the city or the region it represents. The language struggle reminds me of us, the Berbers of North Africa.
The passion ROJILLOS showed and the fierce t-shirt defending by the de la terra players (I have to mention Ez Abde, son of my terra) is to be valued in a thousand cups. Rich people (under a crown, in white djellabas) are also stealing everything in my country, but You have showed me a way to fight more than any philosopher would.
Finally i loved seeing these all different Basque teams' supporters harmonically and amicably get along it's like they say: we respect these who deserve it. And you Osasuna deserve all respect from a HUS Agadir supporter.
Third time will be THE time, but p*ta Madrid for every time.

In fact, there is a theory that relates Basque people (including Navarre) with Amazigh people (berebers) suggesting a common prerroman ancestry between northern africans and Iberic people. They sey Basque people have could be an isolate iberic group. This theory is based in the awsome similarity of Euskera numbers and Iberian numbers words.

So my take is if Euskara isn't related to Gouanch, then deffo isn't related to Berber ... Maybe the connection wasn't a result of having the same family language

I'm Basque myself so this is no news to me, but you portrayed very well the duality of Navarra, Eli. I suppose for foreigners it must be kind of difficult to grasp, but it adds to the richness and the idiosincrasy of the region.
Also, I confirm facing Osasuna away is never a fun game 😅

This video is absolutely brilliant....so glad to see you back Eli!
please do a documentary on football in Cyprus. The teams are divided by politics but for a very specific political reason, and then Aris Limassol has emerged and have no allegiance to any political party and won the league.....once you understand the story, you will understand why I am saying you should look into it....

You should do a documentary on Racing de Santander. Founding club of la Liga, has a very rich history which represents the culture of its region Cantabria. Very similar to osuna in size and fan base being just under them in la ligas historical league standings. They also have standing seats in the stadium probably being the most “English stadium” in Spain being based on QPR’s stadium. Their stadium holds one of, if not the best atmosphere in Spanish football

Thank you for this superb report!! You captured exceptionally well the essence of Osasuna, the only thing that every Navarrese has in common. I'm of the opinion that without Osasuna, Navarra would end up collapsing in two halves. This club is not only about sports, it's a key part to our identity and stability as a region.
It would have been nice to also mention that Osasuna is one of the few professional teams in Spain that doesn't operate as a private enterprise but rather as a membership club. This means that Osasuna members have the last word at every decision, which was the case for instance when the old stadium was renovated recently: all 20,000 members were called to the polls to decide whether the stadium should be renovated, and in the affirmative case which of the available projects they prefered. The amazing brand new stadium you see during the report is what the fans chose.

Incredible, utterly incredible! Being an Espérance fan (Basically the Real Madrid of Tunisia) there is not much to relate to on surface level to Osasuna fans, but this documentary gave me goosebumps, the ways Navarrans take pride in their identity and honor their city, their land, and their team is honestly amazing, hats off to you guys, one hell of character you guys have !!

Such an incredible series. Really difficult to choose a favourite episode but this one is right up there. I love the lengths that you go to in order to provide us with as much cultural context as possible. Showing us why it means so much gets the viewer completely invested in the outcome. Spain in particular is such a fascinating place as a nation state comprised of multiple little kingdoms, each with their own cultural identity. It is so important to understand that.

Thank you for reminding me why i love football. Unfortunately, most of the clubs dont have players or management that represent the fans anymore. I envy the connection that fans and this club have. Results dont matter if you leave everything on the pitch.
