    This is the closest safe way to his old vocals. He used to yell and distort it with his throat, which is why the self titled and Iowa eras had such intense vocals.

      @@lovesgibson It destroys your vocals to not sing correctly, so distorting the yell with your throat is actually a terrible idea. There's a reason techniques are a thing. It's so people dont kill their vocal cords.

      Yeah Corey does glottal compression screaming which isn’t false cord but Corey also adds a lot of voice to it and yes it’s a very unhealthy scream but if you don’t tour like slipknot you won’t really hurt yourself much with it and yeah false cord screaming is a good replacement I guess instead of learning Corey’s actual scream

    I watch hundreds of videos and they’re all so in depth and confusing and there’s so much technique that they try and teach and I’m already pretty good at singing and screaming but can’t do a Corey scream w/o pain lol….but you literally just taught me how in 30 secs👏🏽😭 thank you

    Sounds awesome and love how you’re showing people how to scream properly but during self titled and Iowa Corey was NOT screaming in a healthy way he was essentially yelling and adding distortion he said it hurt to do and it was messing his voice up that’s why Vol.3 sounds so different 👍🏼 BUT I bet clown and Chris were using proper techniques when they played live, it was just always hard to hear them

      @@sanderkoit7667 pretty sure he said volume 3 was him relearning to scream with a damaged voice, there's a clip where he mentions the change on volume 3 and a stone sour album but I admittedly don't really listen to stone sour

    That's an incredible technique, loved seeing you perform it.
    However, the best way to get close to Corey's scream is to abandon all technique and just scream 🤣 dude literally screamed his face off without knowing how to use fry/false or any other chord screaming.

      Totally! However this series is about recreating the tone/feel of an artist’s sound in a healthy sustainable way that most people can recreate, not what the artist does themselves (although sometimes it does match up)

    I've flirted with the concept of talking into false chords, but I can't bridge that gap the same way I do with fry screams, so if that's actually false chord then it's insane cos it's been applied pretty much the same way as fry

    Corey Taylor has one of those unique voices where it will hurt you trying to imitate him but he can do it naturally.
    Another person like that is Tyler Sheldon from traitors, his "moose" screams are insane and hard to replicate and I've been screaming for 9 years

      Eh not quite! If you have a similar voice/build to him to begin with you can get pretty close. For anyone with a very different voice from him it’s going to be much harder to achieve the same tone because of how open the scream is so you hear a lot more of the true tone in the distortion

    I was in a tribute band to slipknot called K-otic. My technique is I fold my tongue just behind my bottom row of teeth. Wearing the orange Jump suit and a mask I made with goat horns, people actually thought I was Corey on stage. The whole crowd went silent and ran to the stage, I miss that ...

    I am able to project my sneezes. 😂 I used that technique with screaming and it did two things. 1) A viking/lion's roar yell and 2) the high pitched scream that Randy Blythe does.
