My son took me to see Elton perform live, and it was a huge thrill. I love his songs and his voice....but, honestly....I would pay just to listen to him play his piano all night. Same thing with Billy Joel. (My son took me to him, too) Both play fantastic piano, and each has such a unique style. Each could play just a handful of notes....and I would know which was which. Elton is The Man, for sure.😊

I love some of the early footage of him singing these songs 'live' on the BBC. Just Elton on the piano alone. From around 1971.

Another super fab tune, "Your Song" In the 70's he was a "Super Star" before the term was really used. Elton, Carly Simon & Carol King were the heavy hitters in this genre. Nice Relaxing Reactions. Peace On Ya

I wish you would have reacted to the first official video which came out in May, 2017. The video follows 12 different people in Los Angeles from behind the wheels of their cars or skateboards. Each of these vignettes helps weave together a story about the people of Los Angeles, both happy and sad, dancing or struggling, that the melody and lyrics of "Tiny Dancer" lend themselves to. But filming "Tiny Dancer" throughout LA makes a lot of sense when you think about the inspiration for the song's lyrics. Elton's long-time lyricist Bernie Taupin originally wrote the song for his then-girlfriend, turned- first wife Maxine Feibelman the actual "seamstress for the band" after a trip to California with her in 1970. I did get to see Elton here in Las Vegas last year at his Farewell Tour. The first and last time at Allegiant Stadium. It was so very bittersweet to see and hear him. Great reaction. You two are such beautiful humans ❤️

There are so many Elton songs to explore. If he is not the best exponent of pop music, he is close, at least he is the most prolific. I would recommend listening to "Tonight" accompanied by a big orchestra.

For all the emphasis on piano, the sweetness of this tune is carried almost entirely by the brilliant use of pedal steel (or perhaps lap) steel guitar.

For us in Central Europe this was the b-side of the "then futuristic" single Rocket Man; as a teenager I loved both of these completely different songs; a 6:17 masterpiece. Today I'm amazed at how well this song is remastered so that you can hear every instrument clearly. Previously I only took the piano and a sound carpet in the background.
Have a good start to the week!

Elton writes the music and Bernie Taupen writes all the Lyrics, the song is about Bernie’s wife who was a Ballerina, when you listen to the lyrics it’s quite self explanatory once you know the back story.

Quite a unique structure this song. Its simply one shortish song performed twice - same verses, same chorus. Anyone who likes this should watch the great movie Almost Famous, when all the warring band members sing this together on the tour bus.

I don't see anyone else recounting the story so I will butt in. I think this was written as a gift to the band member & the member of their crew he was dating. Later on as they planned to get married, I was meant to be their wedding song. But they did a few 'trial balloons' & decided to put it on an album as well. One version of the story anyway.

If you have not seen it there is a video on YT from back during the time when they were working on this song. Elton sitting at piano explains he wanted to work on this song because Bernie wrote it about his girlfriend. Then he explains how he comes up with the music to match the lyrics that Bernie wrote. Very interesting.

Dominique I think maybe if you knew a little bit more about SIR Elton, you might be more interested in his catalog, which is one of the deepest of any artist. His career spans 61 years, sold 300 million albums, & is the most successful solo artist in the history of the US Billboard charts. Not bad for an English guy. Name any award involving music and he's won it.
So why so successful? Elton from childhood could play difficult compositions on the piano simply by ear. He wet from studying at the Royal Academy of Music, playing in pubs, to being a session player. Here's the cool part...
"In 1967, John answered an advertisement in the British music paper New Musical Express, placed by Ray Williams, then the A&R manager for Liberty Records. At their first meeting, Williams gave John an unopened envelope of lyrics written by Bernie Taupin, who had answered the same ad. John wrote music for the lyrics and then sent it to Taupin, beginning a partnership that still continues." And that's how possibly the most successful partnership in music began. Bernie would write lyrics and out them in a briefcase. Elton would take them & sit down at the piano and just like that begin playing music to fit the words. Incredible right?
I think I've watched you react enough to know which songs of his you might like. You seem to enjoy songs that get you moving more than ballads:
    Benny and the Jets
    Crocodile Rock
    Philadelphia Freedom
    But for a great ballad-
    "Your Song" is beautiful
    "Rocket Man"
"Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" is ELTON'S song from 1974 however George Michael released it in '93 featuring Elton. The video of them on YT is very popular for reactors.
All of them are early songs!!!
    Good luck 🩷

Bernie Taupin would write the lyric's and Elton John would take and could compose the music for a completed song most of the time in 10 minutes

its a different sound because he could sing and hit higher pitch much easier when he was a lot younger. . . if he sang the way he does now back then he would not have become famous or sold many records
