I find it amazing how many Black people really like this song.
Bernie Taupin wrote Elton's lyrics and Elton came up with the melodies. That was a great partnership. Bernie Taupin is getting into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year, well deserved.
John, I guess it’s never too late for the morons at the R&R Hall to do the right thing, right? Let me know when Bad Co., Tull, Toto and Trower get in. 🤘😎
The “Madman Across The Water” album is a must own. The steel guitar in this song is special.
……Elton John was the soundtrack to my childhood growing up in the 70’s ❤ wish I could go back and recapture that feeling of being so happy & free ! ……thank god we have all this music that takes us there 🚀man
It was on the movie Almost Famous. They were singing along to it on the tour bus. Great movie, btw!
Exactly, love that scene and movie 🎥 👍❤️
If you ever saw a movie called Almost Famous, they are on a tour bus singing along to this song.
Such a memorable chorus. Nearly impossible not to sing along. They used it in the movie "Almost Famous", a great film.
This song gets better and better the more you listen to it.
Hold me closer Tony Danza
My favorite Elton song.
“Madman Across The Water” and “Levon” are Elton musts. Early Elton is the soundtrack to my childhood, Bernie and Elton supplied the lyrics and melody. 😁❤️
Elton is the kind of performer that if the power went out he could keep the show going solo with just the piano.
Bernie Taupins girlfriend. Highway references are rididng on tour bus. You would have had to seen the picture of her in the album gatefold to appreciate the pirate smile. She did mending for the band.
Elton had achieved setting a record on Billboard with 50-Year Span Between Top 40 Hits
My favourite Elton song 👊
One of my favorite Elton John songs. Good selection.
Early Elton John is the best Elton, IMHO. The use of strings and the orchestral arrangements were brilliant I’m his earlier work. Chod, albums 2 through 8 are as good as any music produced by anyone, ever.
There is a rare video with Bernie, Maxine and Elton from 1971 when they talk about their writing process and Elton grabs the paper that Bernie wrote the Lyrics on and then starts playing on the piano with the rough melody of the song he came up with. Fascinating. ruclips.net/video/fswdJilCBKM/видео.html
Bernie Taupin wrote about a groupee who did sewing for the band on tour, and anything that caught his attention
Bernie Taupin did an interview with Rolling Stone in 1973, and said the song was about his first wife, Maxine Feibelman. She also said it was about her, because she had done sewing work on Elton John's clothes and was interested in ballet when she was younger.
This isn't a simple verse-chorus construction. It's epic.
OH YEAH, ( I'M STILL STANDING )😊
His early stuff like this song were so good.
That song was featured in the movie "Almost Famous," about the life of groupies that traveled with bands. A good movie !
Piano and he is well-schooled at it.
If you watched the movie Almost Famous thats where you might have heard this..if you haven't watched it please do, the movies great!!
I've watched that movie so many times, cuz that was almost my life. 😂
I always think of that scene when I hear this song! It reminds me when I took the bus to school or fields trips and we would all sing the songs playing on the radio. Good times!!
Yes, one of my all time favorite movies, it's just perfect. I've known this song since the 70s, but now whenever I hear it I associate it with that Almost Famous bus scene...it's so good.
It's hard to pick a favorite from Bernie and Elton's masterpieces, but I have to admit that I've listened to Tiny Dancer more than any of their songs.
This song was used in the movie Almost Famous. Perhaps that is where you heard it?
One word : awesome
Near the end of 2022, Elton released a duet with Britney Spears called Hold Me Closer. It hit #1. It was a mesh of two previous hits by Elton called The One and Tiny Dancer. This may be where you have heard this chorus.😊
Can’t stand it! JMO
Great song! Listening to it with the official video gives it an entirely different feel.
Another GREAT Elton song is Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters
Elton John/Come Down In Time😊
You should react to the iconic Bennie and the jets by Elton John it's a real rock & jazzy piece
Bernies first wife is referred to as a seamstress for the band. It is noting women on the sunset strip in 1970.
Elton came to LA in the late 60s, just in time for country rock era of the Troubadour night club. Everyone hung out there and influenced each other from, older folk singers, to very young singer./song writers like Elton.
ELTON NEVER LIKEED THAT COPYRIGHT CRAP, HE ALWAYS WANTED PEOPLE TO DO HIS STUFF 😊 IT'S ABOUT BERNIE'S GIRLFRIEND, SHE WAS A SEAMSTRESS AND SO SHE DID ALL THE COSTUME CREATING AND THINGS. 😊
I am shocked that you have not looked at or have more knowledge about this icon. This song is one of the most famous and played on the Fm radio stations tv and in movies. Bernie Taupin the master lyricist for Elton for many years especially his best works during the first 6 or 7!albums. This song is off of The Madman Across The Water album which is considered one of the best albums in rock/pop history with Levon, the title tune, and Indian Sunset. Those early albums had the great Paul Buckmaster conducting the full orchestra while Gus Dudgeon produced these first incredible albums. That is what elevated Elton to a level that had not been done in rock/ pop music before!
Due to its length at 6:21, it was not released as single but shorter versions were played on AM radio (#41?, some AM stations played the album version occasionally). Where it was played was on early FM stations where the album version of songs were played versus single release versions which did not always feature the artists intent. Some fans favor a lot of his earlier work. :)
My first concert ever was Elton in Vancouver 1974. Love this song. Thanks man!!!😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Always reminds me of the movie Almost famous
Watch the movie Almost Famous. ❤👍
And he studied classical music at the Royal Academy.
I always think of, Bailey on WKRP, the episode wrapped around her.
I grew up with the music of Elton John & had a lot of his records. He was huge in the 70's-80's. He collaborated with Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums. They were one of the best song writing teams. Bernie wrote the lyrics & Elton supplied the melody. They had so many great hits together such as "Levon", "Honky Cat", "Crocodile Rock", "Bennie & The Jets", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", "The Bitch Is Back", "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" etc.
Tumbleweed connection; early Elton is the Best Elton IMO
I agree, this is one of my favorite EJ songs. I checked and it doesn't look as if you've reacted to Bennie and the Jets, it's a must hear!
He is a true legend. His music and grace to Bernie Taupin as well, bring people to a good place. There is a newer video for this lovely piece that is pretty great: ruclips.net/video/yYcyacLRPNs/видео.html. Keep enjoying and thank you for this one...
Elton n Billy did a piano mans tour. :)
Chod, for a truly moving experience, check out "Indian Sunset" from his "Madman Across The Water" album.
One of my all time favorite albums along with Tumbleweed Connection!
INSANELYYYY BEAUTIFULLLL ( NO PUN ) HUH CHOD? 😊EARLY ELTON WAS DEFINITELY PROG ROCK AND A HUGE MIX OF STUFF! 😊 THIS IS OFF OF HIS 71 GEM ( MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER ) THE 2 BIG HITS BEING : THIS AND LEVON, DEEP TRACKS, TITLE TRACK AND INDIAN SUNSET 😎
Hey Chod! Awesome song by EJ. Watch the movie Almost Famous!!!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎
The most beautiful song about masturbation ever written. Only Bernie could have done something so subversive where no one’s the wiser because the music is so awesome, sleight of hand so to speak lol.
Mad Man Across the Water is the name of the album...just sayin':)
Not a choir a full orchestra
I compare Elton more to Billy Joel than Freddy Mercury. All 3 are massive talents, but Elton and Billy are more storytellers, whereas Queen is more straight rocking
Elton John is a deep, deep rabbit hole that is worth jumping into...with both feet. The original video is awesome...here it is...enjoy! ruclips.net/video/yYcyacLRPNs/видео.html Peace brother! ✌😎
It should be against the law to use classic tunes for stupid commercials or stupid video games. These songs are our memories growing up partying , loving losing living.
