@@benclarke8500 That is my favorite scene in the movie cuz it rang so true for me. When I was young I was a member of a very active and successful marching music organization. Every summer we spent 15 hours a day practicing only to jump on a bus and wind up in some strange city hours later ready to perform. As in all musical "families" we didnt always get along but no matter how deep the riffs they always seemed to instantly dissolve under the weight of our shared love of the music.

He was asked if him and Bernie got together and discussed the lyrics. He said Bernie hands me the lyrics and I write music to them, no discussion. He said most of the time I don't even know what the lyrics mean. I just write music.

"Tiny Dancer" was also released on UNI records in 1972 c/w "Razor Face" but no singles were released in the UK from this iconic album. Why the track Holiday Inn was not used by the hotel chain as an ad rift is beyond me. A great great album.

There's great live TV performances of 'Madman Across the Water' and 'Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters'. Stunning piano.

I think that I first heard this song on a tv show called WKRP in Cincinatti, and I loved it right away. And still do. I liked the comment that you made about the great transitions...you're absolutely right. I'm going to have to go back and really listen to this again.

YES!!!!!! It really is a masterpiece!!!!! You have picked up on all the elements that make his music so special. If you want to continue being moved emotionally listening to Elton John, PLEASE listen to the studio versions of: "Someone Saved My life Tonight", "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" (some reactioners listen to only one or the other but both songs were designed to flow right into each other), "Levon"... and if you really want to rock out, Elton's version of "Pinball Wizard"... which is one of those rare covers that absolutely blows the original away. You can't go wrong with these 4 songs.

One of my absolute favorite songs, unfortunately, the only time I saw him in concert it was the one song he didn't play =(. He even got under the piano and played without looking at the keys. Truly awesome talent!

Please react to "Someone saved my life tonight" by Elton John. If I remember correctly, the song was based on a dark time in his/personal life. Listen to the message carefully. Such a beautiful, sad, touching, and emotional song. A true masterpiece. Thank you. OleHead

I never used to hear this, but once you do it's amazing. The steel guitar from B.J. Cole on this track is extraordinary - it makes the song once you know it's there.

Great reaction Jay! You’re right there’s so many transitions and complex arrangements on this track and what’s unusual is that the chorus doesn’t kick in until about half way through the song. I’m not a huge Elton John fan tbh, but he has a few real gems. I think much of the credit must go to his lyricist Bernie Taupin, who wrote Your Song when he 17 or something

This used to be my favorite EJ song until I discovered “Funeral for a Friend,” which is his real “masterpiece “ IMO.
He’s a truly gifted musician. I didn’t realize just HOW gifted he was until I saw “Rocket Man.” That reminds me to watch some documentaries about him.

I just watched the Elton John movie, very sad story, you should check it out. Get ready to have your heart broken though, his dad is a piece of work. Candle in the wind was huge in the late 90s since he changed it to honor princess diana. "Your song" is beautiful too
