I’m SO glad you asked about one of my FAVORITE expressions: ‘Pirate smile.” Consider when a pirate puts to sea to do his job, to rob and steal on the high seas, what would make him smile?
The sight of a ship he intends to chase down and rob.
Consider athletics. An athlete is competing against another and he detects a weakness in his opponent, especially one he wasn’t aware of when the contest starts. If you know the athlete you’ll see him/her flash a smile, meaning, “Ok, I’m in a fight but I’ve discovered an advantage that makes me confident in my victory!”
    That’s a ‘pirate smile.’

Check out "Almost Famous Tiny Dance scene". It was featured in the movie Almost Famous, which as a music fan, you really should check out. I'll give you a quick set up for the scene. A kid wanting to be a reporter for Rolling Stone magazine is following around this fictional band called Stillwater. They are on tour and you see how the band is getting exhausted. And this scene reminds them of why they are in this business - it's about the music.

Good one! There's a funny joke about this song from the TV show "Friends", that it sounds like he's singing, "Hold me closer, Tony Danza!" But, you never watched "Friends", and I'm sure you have no idea who Tony Danza is. Tony Danza was an actor that had been famous first, for being on a TV show called "Taxi", then later a show when I was a kid called "Who's The Boss", and some movies. I believe when his acting career dried up, he became a school teacher. The joke is funny though, because I used to also think that's what he was saying, and I'm sure that me and the writers of "Friends" weren't the only ones to think that. There's a lot of funny interpretations of lyrics that people thought they were hearing compared to the actual lyrics. Though I guess it wouldn't make any sense if you don't already know the songs.

    • @debjorgo
      @debjorgo 4 месяца назад +1

The teaching stint was part of Tony's career. It was a reality series on A&E. Tony is currently acting in a role on 50 Cent's show Power. Though Tony is not currently acting in any high-profile starring roles, he still is a very active actor, recently acting in a memorable role on Blue Bloods.

This song is so beautiful. For me (and I'm not saying I'm right or wrong about it) it's showing individuality. No one on Earth is exactly alike. Some people like certain things while others dislike the same thing. It can be music, lifestyle, fashion, animals, politics, religion, food, drink, social activities, etc, etc, etc. No two people are exactly the same yet we all have one thing in common. What is that one thing? We're all just trying to get through life living it the way that helps us best deal with it. The message is: Please don't judge anyone, because you don't know what they've been through or what they're dealing with. Just try to live the best life you can and be compassionate to others and hope they are to you as well.
Biss, PLEASE react to Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me".
I looked it up and saw you previously reacted to Putri Ariani singing it on AGT, but trust me, you'll absolutely LOVE listening and reacting to Elton John's performance. You'll get to hear the instrumental part, which in my opinion really takes the song to a different level, and you'll get to hear Elton's magical singing and piano with his emotions as well. You'll love it, I know you will.
One last thing, as many others have mentioned already, this song is played in a wonderful movie called "Almost Famous". The scene in which this song is played is the best part of the movie in my opinion. I realize this channel is for song reactions and not movie reactions, but it somewhat coincides since I can never not think about this song without thinking about that scene in the movie. You should check it out.
If not, no worries, I love this song, I loved your reaction, and "liked" it of course. Thank you Biss.

Grab any album of Elton John's and be ready for some of the best music you'll ever enjoy. There is no end to the list of great songs. I was in my early 20 in 1970-71 time frame when Elton hit the air waves for the first time. Soon we all understood greatness had arrived in the form of this new guy from England that could melt us with one song and then blow up a 50,000 seat stadium with some of the best rock n roll you'll ever hear. I heard or read once, Elton put the lyrics of Your Song to music in 15 minutes. Bernie would hand Elton a sheet with lyrics and Elton's mind would say, oh, these words sound like this and away he'd go and brilliance would be there when he finished. Bernie and Elton can and should share the top of the mountain with Paul McCartney and John Lennon as the greatest creators of modern music.

I'm 68 and clearly remember intimately dancing to this with a girl in the hallway of my school, by ourselves, during a school dance in the gym.

I'm not sure why this comes to mind (maybe you mention that you LOVE to sing along), but the song "I Got a Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas, seems like a perfect fit for you! It's on my going out on the town play list. Make sure to watch the official video! Cheers Biss, and thanks!

Hello Bisscute, beautiful melody and even more so in the interpretation of the maestro Elton John, I thought you were going to refer a little more to the lyrics, I understand that it was composed by his great friend Bernie Topin, while Elton was in charge of putting it to music and to interpret it. The girl referred to in the song really existed, her name is Maxime Feibelman, whom they met in Los Angeles, she was a seamstress for Elton's band when they toured the United States in the 70s, which later resulted in the marriage of Topin and Feibelman, hence the multiple references in the song's lyrics to all these experiences. Greetings and a hug, dear friend, and thank you for continuing to present such interesting material to us. It would be nice if one day you could react to Mon Laferte.

Great! Others to try: Rocket Man, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Candle in the Wind (1973, Marilyn Monroe version), Your Song, Daniel, Curtains, High Flying Bird, Original Sin, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Sacrifice, Bennie & the Jets, The One, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Nikita...so many. For upbeat I'm Still Standing, and for heavier atmospheric rock with instrumental opener Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding (classic album track).

I think Elton John is one of those rare performers who’s live performances are always as good as the studio recordings, and in my opinion more enjoyable than the official videos.

I love this song and have for decades! Good music very often means any song from Elton John or Billy Joel. So hard to pick something from them that isn't great.

HIGHLY recommend the whole "Caribou" album, but particularly the haunting song "Ticking", it's a real serious song. Followed up by "All the Girls Love Alice".
