ELTON JOHN," DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME ". THE SONG WAS A HIT IN 74, Just another masterpiece added to the great 70's time in his life. Played accompaning me through Highschool music thru my School days, the 60's and The 70's the best ever... lucky enough to hear the songs when they were new. The longgevity is timeless

The man is a music machine. And Bernie Taupin isn't simply a lyricist - he's a poet. Great reactions.

Elton always has astonishing background vocals from his band, Davey Johnstone, (guitar), Dee Murray (Bass), and Nigel Ollsen(drums), but recalling the liner notes from this record, this song also included backing vocals by Dusty Springfield, Toni Tennile, and Brian Wilson. The horns were from the band Tower Of Power. Recorded a n Colorado at the Caribou Ranch Studio, hence the album title, Caribou. 👍😎❤️

This version really shows off how great the band was too. Nigel Olsson on drums in particular kicked butt here.

Howdy, folks: I love this song and I had all of his albums back then. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to most of Elton's songs and Elton wrote the music. They had so many good songs. Rocket Man is probably my favourite, Empty Garden is beautiful and there is a song from his, Don't Shoot Me album called High Flying Bird that I absolutely love. There are too many to mention. Keep playing the good ones.

Cheers thank you. I asked for this also. I prefer this version 100 times more, mainly for the buildup in the song more than the chorus of the song its stunning to me.

Thé song that pulled me into listening to music seriously at age 11. Supertramp released Crime Of The Century... Great memories. A year later Queen launched Bohemian Rhapsody. And then I discovered Pink Floyd with Wish You Were Here. Those years were just something else.

What you lose in the George Michael live version is the Elton piano and those gorgeous background vocals and brass....Love George Michaels voice and treatment, but the whole package is better here. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. There are two Beach Boys on the backing vocals - Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston.....they REALLY come through and make this special.

Elton John typically writes the music for his songs and usually, especially in the early days, the lyrics are written by Bernie Taupin. Later on, Elton co-wrote with others as well as Bernie.

you seem to be sampling many different artists at this time. I suggest you listen to Van Morrison. A good place to start would be Into The Mystic- beautiful melody , and you get a real sense of what makes him great...

This song was co-written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Elton John recorded this song back in 1974. I think Elton's version with George Michael wasn't recorded until almost 40 years later in 2009.

I’m sure you know this I don’t know his rank and I don’t care… But I think Elton John perhaps has more number one songs did anyone in the history of music. I didn’t take the time to look that up before I send it but I’m pretty sure he does. You are very right. His music is a layer, a solid foundation of his beautiful piano, and then they just keep layering different instruments on top of it… Not just playing instruments, but very skilled instrumentals in the layering back that up with a one of a kind, amazing voice, and that’s why you have one of the most prolific singer songwriters in the history of music.

So much American and world music out there. Maybe try some of the famous American jazz from the 1950's, like the Dave Brubeck quartet, their very famous "Take Five". If so, I would suggest a black and white filming from the younger days. There is a live filming from Belgium in 1964 that is good and easy to find.

THEY DID MUSIC DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER BAND YOU GUYS, 2 SEPARATE ROOMS AND EVEN PLACES NORMALLY, BERNIE WOULD WRITE LYRICS AND GIVE OR SEND THEM TO ELTON AND HE WOULD WRITE THE MUSIC TO BERNIE'S LYRICS, QUITE UNIQUE THEY WERE!💯😊

A very dramatic, but brilliant song❤ unfortunately on a rather average album Caribou - only dramatically surpassed by Someone Saved My Life Tonight on the next brilliant biographical album Captain Fantastic. For me, the last biographical(?) song was a turn round in his musical (separation from the brilliant lyricist Bernie Taupin; disco dominated; his answer was the terrible Victom Of Live), as well as his private life (no comment).
In 1991 the live version with George Michael was finally also a success in Central Europe; but I also prefer the original.
