  • Living in a foreign country is a thrilling adventure, but let's face it - we all get homesick from time to time. In this video, I'll show you how we satisfy one of our cravings for a taste of home. One of the things my family and I miss the most from America is the spicy kick of some delicious hot sauce - especially when it's turned into Buffalo sauce and poured over a plate of chicken wings! Join me as I whip up a batch of this amazing sauce here in Germany. I'll also share some thoughts on a few important things to keep in mind when living in a foreign country, making this video both delicious and informative.
About us: In July of 2021, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

Good job, Mr. Onward MJ. The chicken wings with the sauce look delicious. Bon appetite!

Maybe I don't eat that spicy, but a very fast and easy way to spice up a sauce is Sambal Olek. My favorite is Inproba (i.e. Kaufland 2,49 Euro/200ml).

Thanx - looks very yummy. Sorry, I've been living in France for quite a time - so the next step to improve your recipes a little bit could be the use of fresh ingredients like garlic out of a garlic press, fresh herbs and a little bit sweetening with a small dose of honey or cane sugar (when broiling the peppers/ chilies) and making your own mayo (see on Y-T, no big deal - once, you've done it you may ask yourself why haven't I've done it already?). The less ready made products you use, the healthier and yummy even fastfood can be. Bon appetit!

I agree that fresh ingredients are better, but I have to balance better with convenience since I don't get paid to cook. 😂 Except garlic powder can be better than fresh garlic for something like Buffalo sauce because it mixes in better without having any chunks. But if people really like watching me cook, maybe I'll get into making things from scratch a little more. 😁

Hi, guten Morgen, take all these recipes, write them down, make a cooking book, name it "The culture connect cooking for Expads" and you win ^^ nice video. Have a nice day, happy cooking. 👍 Maybe you can make more of this and share your recipes for people which want to have something for their BBQ
    best regards

That's not a bad idea! And yes, I'll probably throw a few more cooking videos up - especially with my pulled pork barbecue. It's one of my favorite American dishes to cook!

@@OnwardMJ I would love that. Penny (the grocery market) had pulled pork and I googled how to make pulled pork burger but for the coleslaw there were so many diffrent typs that I was uncertain which was the right one, so I choose a diffrent dish as lunch.

Look in the spice section for "Chili Flocken" "chili flakes" dried chili peppers - but be very careful, especially with the seeds!
Have a nice Sunday and greetings to the family!

I always go to turkish or indian stores to get fresh peppers. They are cheap there. If there is no store, you can ask a Döner shop if he can sell you some.

Oh, I love hot sauce, too, and I am always searching for real hot stuff. I recently found a good dip sauce for tortilla snacks at Rewe.
It is surprisingly from the Rewe label "Ja!". It is called Hot Salsa and you can find it near the chips section. Maybe you have to ask the personal if you can not find it.
it has thick pieces of paprika and jalapenos in it. It is cheap, costs 1,30 euro

I'd love to find some good salsa. I found some at Konsum, but it's more sweet and not spicy. I'll look for that one next time I'm at Rewe.

The spieciest Hotsauce I found in GER is Fuego's "Jalapeno Sauce Extra Hot". It comes in a Tabasco-ish bottle and supposedly has 35k Scoville. You'll find it in either the Sauce or Mexican section of Edeka and Rewe stores for less than € 2,50 / 100ml.

One Tip for the Bottles. Wash them in hot water, let them try and then fill them up hot (min. 70°C), put the cap on it and turn it to stand on the cap. If it is cooled down the cap is sealed in the same way as you buy it (with this popping sound on first opening) so the sauce is at least 6 month preserved.

Interessant.
Was mich mal interessieren würde, sind gute, möglichst gesunde, typisch amerikanische Speisen. Kein Tex Mex Food, kein Fast Food, und auf jeden Fall was, was man auch stilvoll isst, am schön gedeckten Tisch, mit Porzellan und Messer und Gabel.
    Gibt es sowas?

    • @OnwardMJ
      @OnwardMJ  Год назад +1

Was wohl dort angeboten wird?

One tip for washing your hands... Use milk for it, this can catch better than water or soap all the spices

@@siegfried1214 Funny that I never thought about that. I know about drinking milk when you eat something spicy, I just didn't think about using it on my hands.
