- As the parents of four amazing kids, there is a special joy for us in the Christmas market. Not only do we get to enjoy the shopping, the food and drinks, and the amazing atmosphere, but we also get to enjoy the magic of the Christmas market through the eyes of our children. Christmastime is always special with kids, and going out into the city together to enjoy the festivities has been wonderful.
About us: Just over one year ago, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

Can you imagine? The first Christmas market in Leipzig was in 1458, when America wasn't even discovered. =)

We still kept our big celebration on the 25th. I'm not sure we'll ever change that. For me, there's something special about waking up in the morning with the kids and being with them as the see the presents under the tree for the first time. Then having some coffee and breakfast together and opening the presents. It's special to me. Maybe when all of the kids are older we will change some things? But not yet... Will der Weihnachtsmann make a visit tonight or Father Christmas arrive during the night. We loved having the choice being a mixed culture family. Depending on how it fitted in it was either Heiligabend with our kids going to bed late and happy, enjoying their new things the next morning or the long haul “I can’t get to sleep “ scenario.
