- Hello Friends!
A Couple weeks ago, I went to Reno for a long weekend to see @AbbyCox , @NicoleRudolph , and Chrissy, since all of us are vaccinated and it seemed like it was time. We did so many things! We went to Lake Tahoe, where Abby took some amazing photos of Merida for me. We went fabric shopping at Mill End Fabrics. We went and saw the Victorian Radicals Exhibit at the Nevada Art Museum. The ladies fixed my 18th century gown for me, right on my body, and then they proceeded to cut 18th century shapes on me so I will have a perfectly fitted to me pattern to make dresses from! It was a wonderful weekend and I had forgotten how much I needed to extrovert with people after being locked in my house for so long. Don't worry, we were extra careful everywhere we went! But, man, did I need a weekend with Friends!
Here's the run-down, in case you want to skip around:
00:00 - Introduction
01:09 - Lake Tahoe Merida Photo Shoot
05:12 - Mill End Fabric Shopping
08:11 - Victorian Radicals Exhibit at the Nevada Art Museum
16:30 - Abby and My Hot take on that exhibit
19:07 - Cutting 18th Century Shapes on my body
24:59 - More info and wrapping it up
I hope that you enjoy!

...I think RUclips ate my play by play comment and now I am sad. :( anywaysssss love you and it was so much fun having you hang out with us for the weekend!!!!!!
I love you too and it was just what I needed!! 💖💖
Is Abby wearing jeans 🤯
Abby, your sunglasses are super awesome!!
I would have dearly loved to hear Abby's play by play commentary!
I really wanted the Abby play by play. I love pattern draping in it's various forms, and I REALLY wanted to hear exactly what Abby was doing and why she was doing it. She taught me how to use a thimble, I've been hand stitching linen and wool garments for myself, and now I want to know all the things she knows.
Abby and Nicole swarming around you making a dress---man, if that's not the closest a girl could get to being Cinderella and having Fairy Godmothers, I don't know what is! Can't wait for the haul video(s)! So much fun.
Two of the most highly educated, accomplished dress historians in the country make a pattern on your body. And they like you. This is such an amazing level of cool. :) I am so very glad that you got to do this and have such fun with cool people. (Envy is a self-corrosive activity which destroys the soul, so I am not going to go there. But, oh, I could!)
I think its cute that the cos tubes have created friend groups.
The upside down Zoom on your mask making Wooz is the first time I have laughed since my dog passed on Monday. Thank you for being you and sharing so much of yourself with us.
During the part where they were "cutting 18th century shapes on your body" it very much felt like behind the scenes footage of three extras getting ready for a loosely historical musical as you all have solid color clothing on from a similar color palette 😂💖❤️💛
Your mid-fitting snack break cracked me up. I just imagined 18th century ladies going "this fitting is exhausting...bring me some bonbons to fortify me".
Girl you need to find a Shire horse and get some pictures on it 😁
Clydesdale. The Shire is an English breed.
Yes!! Any big draft horse would be awesome. V from Snappy Dragon did a victorian riding outfit and had a photoshoot with an Irish Cobb.
@@maryeckel9682 Clydesdale is still British. Is Merida scottish? Showing my ignorance here!
YES!!
OMG, you just experienced a true Victorian dressmaking session where the makers patterned, fitted, adjusted and finalized a dress right on you--no wonder you felt like a princess! Also, I appreciated your and Abby's comments on the museum. I grew up in museums (literally, living in the same building as one of the museums) and was totally confused by what I was viewing. No focus or fusion. The piece I was most excited about was the purple dress--i want that dress! Thanks for the great vid. Oh, forgot, what a perfect setting for Merida!
I'm so crazy impressed by Abby and Nicole's dressmaking ability. I know they trained in it, but it is so cool to see it happening in "real" time.
It's so lovely to have friends who are into the same things as you! -sighs wistfully. I'd love to have a person to help me with fittings.
OMG I CAN NOT IMAGINE having a custom made pattern by Abby & Nicole!
I miss museums SO BADLY! I hope that ours will open up again some day.
No fair making all of us drool over the fabric store! I was salivating from the first walk in! Then you hit us with the museum....wow. I also noticed Chrissy keeping her hands behind her back when viewing the purple outfit. I would have done the same thing to remind myself that I couldn't touch it.
Abby feeling herself is life lol
*Fun friend day!!* 😄
How much fun to watch people together unmasked having fun! Still waiting for my second shot here in the Netherlands, but you give me hope that peopley things can be shred by all again soon!! I can't wait to see what you ended up getting. Thank you.
putting Merida together in the parking lot is just Goals. The concept of cutting shapes has destroyed my desperate need to learn pattern drafting. I adore the princess moment, what awesome friends!
Yes, a giant haul video would be great!
lmao " Not so easy when you're carrying luggage, ya muppet!" Just....yeahh...... XD
I love how connected this community is. It’s heckin cool to see people supporting and helping each other and just being really awesome buddies.
The dressing up as Merida in the parking lot part is bringing me so much free spirited joy right now I can't even begin to describe it 👌.
Also, the museum made me a little nostalgic for the times when you had your portrait drawn or painted rather than your photo taken.
It looked like a very fun day. One on the first pictures you showed (very dark with lots of dead and lightning in the centre back) reminded me of how I would expect Culloden to have looked like.
The time lapse reminds me of how the dresses etc would have been made originally. Love to all. Xxx
This was awesome. Now I need to visit reno to see the fabric store, and one with a similar name in Portland. I really want a (series) collab of Abby and Nicole doing a tutorial of the cutting shapes, Ideally on Mariah Pattie.
I need sewing friends so that we can help each-other fit dresses. #goals
I love love the intro. This makes me so happy, thank you for bringing us along for adventures.
Amazing as always! Merida looks fab in her nature surroundings
It did look like youd feel like a lady of high society as TWO fabulously talented seamstresaes work on you! 😂
And mill end looked stunning!
It is so lovely to see you guys having fun together! Merida turned out stunning and that draping(?) was pure magic!
I can't wait to see all your Merida pics! Also, I am shocked that Abby's lovely background wall is the side of a staircase. Definitely didn't expect that!
Looks like you had a great time! It's always nice to get together with friends! 🙂
What a fabulous weekend! You all look so happy together.
That looks like it was an incredible weekend. I'm now even more convinced Abby and Nicole are witches though!! I'd love to learn how to cut patterns like that and have someone do it for me.
👀👀👀👀😎😎😎
I'm remembering now just how much I enjoy your travel vlogs. And a weekend with sewing friends sounds like bliss right now. I just need to get some sewing friends to hang out with...
As a genuine Scots girl with red hair I hand on heart can say I have Merida in my blood. I need to find a simple version of the skirt for every day wear. Absolutely loved the final outcome of Merida
Circle skirts are quick and easy even for beginners (idk how much sewing exp. you have)!
Really fascinating to see them cutting and shaping to your body!
I’m so jelly that you got to go play with cool people!! And you looked gorgeous as Merida...your work came out BEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks for taking us along, it was very refreshing! The cutting shapes part looked fascinating. Can't wait to see what you'll make with the results of it. Also, looking forward to the haul! :)
YES! All of this, yes!
Watching masters work at their craft is awesome!!
Anyone else getting serious Edna Mode vibes from Abby?
had a wave of nostalgia for the Before Times watching this video because one of the songs is one that I used to play for contra night at a local church
You should be so proud of this accomplishment..what a sewing skill you have.
Princess Noel getting her garments fixed is appropriate for a Merida trip.
Red head... Definitely. Beautiful place to be, you could be in Ireland or anywhere lakeside. I do miss the shopping. Thank you for sharing.
Birdy
Omg you were in the area! Always exciting to see places I know. So yeah, You have fans in Lake Tahoe and Merida fits right in!
My thoughts exactly, haha!
I'm glad I am not the only one confused about the museum exhibit.
It’s so much fun to watch a video and go “I know where that is” every 5 seconds. I love Mill End. They used to have a second store where I am located- but sadly it closed a few years ago. I now trek to Reno for fabric. Im hoping to get to the exhibit before it’s done. Love the pictures at the Tahoe. It’s hard not to get amazing shots!
And P. S. You can get away with a chemise (and drawers) if your visible. Drove 20 miles home in my chemise and drawers cause I was way to hot after an event.
I've watched Abby and Nicole's videos on the regency bodices they created, and THEN I watched this one. It's so interesting to see the difference (ie. everything from the bust down).
Ahhhh I love seeing friends unite again
What a fun filled wonderful time with friends! As I am just beginning my costuming journey (sewing for 50 years though) I love watching all of you! Would love to find someone close to have fun & journey historically together! Thanks for the video!!!
A TRAVEL VLOG!! Oh how I have missed you! So glad you got to have an exciting friends weekend
Your video was absolutely amazing! I loved every second of it. I have a question for you though, how do you decide where you take photos for each of your costumes?
My dad works in curation and exhibition design and Abby's open admission that she becomes snobby about museum exhibitions hit real close to home haha!
Wow you looked so lovely. I’m sure that the pictures will be amazing!!
Also I miss fabric shopping (well all shopping). Oh and visiting with friends! The fabric store looked expensive lol
Nope!! It’s incredibly cheap!! It’s literally called Mill End because they have all the ends of bolts and sell them off super inexpensively!!
I may need to make my way there at some point. I’m in the Bay Area too, and Reno isn’t THAT far. We’ll see how hard my husband rolls his eyes at me wanting to increase my already overloaded fabric storage…
@@Costuming_Drama it’s the inexpensive that makes it expensive!!! That and an attack of the “oh pretty I want”! It’s why sometimes I’m in my local fabric shop muttering “stay on target”, and “oh don’t look at the sales”! People must think I’m a nut bar when I stop look at something then say “No” firmly and walk away!! With all that said I will add it to my list of cool fabric stores I want to visit!!
Yeah, Reno is a short 15 hour drive from here. I could leave Friday, Shop all day Saturday, and be back by Monday -- although. . . today is the last day of school, so I d o n't teechnically H A V E to be back by Monday -- did I mention I'm feeling starved for fabric?
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Target LOST! THIS ONE'S GONE ROGUE!!!!
Sketchers! Yea baby!
Cutting shapes looks fascinating! I guess that's my next research rabbit hole. Thanks for showing what you could!
Hi ladies,
That was amazing! Well...not so much the museum, but the cutting! Holy seamstresses, the talent you have, I could watch videos of all of you non-stop. Consider this your heads up; in my next life, I will live near one of you.
xoxo's Sandie
One more time, you look fabulous as Merida!
Okay, watching Abby and Nicole drape fabric to create the foundation pieces was more interesting than the museum.
So that white dress was a “Liberty” dress? May have to go down a rabbit whole.
Lake Tahoe! Brings back memories.
A real fabric store! WOW!
I turned a velvet dress I made inside out and pinned it for a better fit!
Looking forward to seeing the alteration to your dress! Film what all they did!
My 1yo kept gasping and yelling "aHAAA!" at the fabric store bit. She hasn't even been to the fabric store with me a ton of times (bc, you know, the plague). Truly my child. *proud, happy tear*
She is ready for it 😉
hahahahah that's awesome!
The first time I went to MILL End I thought I had died and gone to heaven!! I was working on a thesis that involved Regency reproduction on a undergrad budget, and they were a godsend 😭😭
Merida is just stunning, you look amazing!
Redhead... Definitely. Love the photoshoot, shopping and sights.
Birdy
I’m breathless from all the “oooo’s”, “aahhhhhh’s”, “ohhhhh’s” and barely suppressed squeals of delight! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful time with such awesome people!🥰
Your museum visit reminded me of the times in undergrad when I camped out in front of a painting for a few hours to write analysis on it for art history. Man, I miss those times. Looks like yall had a blast together, thats so awesome
Your Merida costume turned out fantastic!!!
And thank you so much for the footage from the museum :D for me as an art historian, not living in the US it was a real treat!
Completely understand Abby's point about the exhibit. I work in collections and covered interpretation in my training and now I get frustrated by bad interpretation that spoils the enjoyment of exhibits etc.
Nice collection of Pre-Rafealites!
Seems like the museum was expecting people to know about P.R.B.and arts and crafts movement before viewing the exhibition.
Mill End... that there is heaven
Agree.
I'm so glad you all got out to have a safe(r) adventure together .
Algorithmic support, and liking, for now.
This looks so fun! Thanks for keeping me company while I finish up an 18thc apron ☺️
Sewing room snacks are the best
Glad you could do that weekend! Looks like you all had so much fun! 😃
Also so glad to see you traveling again!
Merida all grown up and looking fineee!
Oh, people interacting with each other not over screens xD It's great you got to travel and visit friends again.
The shape cutting looked really interesting, I bet there are going to be some amazing pieces of clothing in the future. And Merida infront of those backdrops of nature was amazing :) You all looked like you had a blast!
This was so great to watch!!!!
All the Pre-Raphaelite goodness AAAHHHH! 😍 Looks like you all had a wonderful time!
Such a fun adventure! I'm extremely jealous that you have people who can drape a pattern for you. I just spent a couple of months fitting a pattern on myself and it's... okay
This is so awesome. I will say the museum tour was worth it for the beautiful purple gown
I think so too!
Okay, we need a video from Abby and/or Nicole showing how to cut shapes!
I am sure they will do at some point!
okay I feel WAY better about my reaction to the museum shots!
I had tried to watch this while doing homework but I couldn't so I came back to give it the attention it deserves
You don't know how much I appreciate all that art museum footage... I miss being able to go to museums and galleries and sitting down and sketching and just look around... *Sigh*
Btw awesome photoshoot for Merida!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks like a fun time. 😄
Abby Edna Mode glasses. Dying.
I really love that you are friends and can get out and have fun together.
Sketchers are historically accurate, aren't they? I AM SCREAMING!! THIS WAS CRAZY FANTASTIC! I absolutely LOVE the proportions of Merida! I need some fabric. And by need I mean Want, and by Want, I mean NEED! THAT WAS THE FASTEST 27 MINUTES OF MY LIFE!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! And the draping! Can't wait to see what comes of that! ALSO -- will you be correcting your paper pattern to the changes they made? Or at least making notes of it? LOVE THIS! Stay well!
So glad you got out for some socializing. You guys deserve it!
You are so pretty. Lake Tahoe is great but it was a perfect backdrop for Merida.
Also, I keep doing the things! I passed my defense and tomorrow I am going to a job interview in person. Ahh! It's crazy but I'm going to keep at it. Thanks for the motivation you inspire to just keep going. :D
How I’ve never been to Mill End is STILL beyond me. It makes me so happy seeing creatives like you guys get together and have such a good time❤️ I wish I could’ve seen you guys around !
Wow! They Fairy Godmothered your dress on you!!!
Yay fun travel blog with friends!! I’m glad you all had fun!
Loved the Museum
That was an awesome vlog
It's so strange seeing all of these places on your pics/video when they're places I have to pass by at least twice a week for work. So glad you had a good trip! As for the NVMoA...this is Reno, NV and that's all I will say on it LOL. The state museum in Carson City is really nice for a good museum to go to when you're here next! Also Nicole's downtown comment was spot-on and I died.
That looked like fun! I saw the same exhibit when it visited Seattle.
This looks like you had a wonderful time and I'm glad you got to go out and be with friends. I very much want to see what you got and hear about plans with those treasures ^^.
One of the things I really like about costube (after watching a lot of purse making tutorials) is the sense of community here. It could be me projecting, but I like that a lot of y'all are friends or at least good acquaintances. It makes me feel more a part of things even if I am a purse maker rather than a costumer/seamstress, who has become more agoraphobic over the past 14 months. I love watching videos of people who are genuinely happy with others and with their projects. Anyways, I know this is one of those strange meta-relationships, but one I'm happy in.
so much joy to be packed into one small weekend. Glad you shared it with all of us
OMG finally!!!! Your videos give me life! Instant like, don't know what the video is about, didn't even read the title yet. 🥳
I wish the play by play was there.
It looks like y’all had a blast!!!
