    A beautiful lens with a good picture throughout the range, which is not often found in zooms. Sharp and light.

    This is the only stand zoom which can satisfy my needs from Pentax, I used 16-45, 17-70 and 16-50 2.8, the 16-45 and 17-70 has their own defaults and 16-50 2.8 is too large and heavy and I don't always need 2.8 throughout the range, this lens is light and small enough and the quality is good enough even wide open, it can compare with the limited prime once stopped down even 1 stop, really satisfied with its quality as compared with my primes, and it can nearly cover the FF circle when removed the inner shell, really surprising

    Hi Lee, thanks for your Pentax videos I really appreciate them! I've owned the 20-40mm for quite a while and agree it is a great lens. I've noticed you don't shoot much with the K-1 lately, do you prefer the K-70? Is there a noticeable difference in image quality between the K-1 and K70? Thanks!

      Funny you noticed that. I was thinking the same thing. I have been taking very long walks and the K1 does have some weight to it especially when you add my 2 favorite lens that I use with it, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and the 300mm f/4 da*. The K-70 is the best crop sensor I have ever used but the K-1 blows it away. I was thinking about doing a comparison video but it might be awhile. I have a couple of reviews to do on the 15mm f/4 and the 200mm f/2.8* and I still haven't done the 300mm f/4*. My review on 200mm and 300mm will be the K-1. thanks for watching.

      Thanks for replying Lee! I'm strongly considering the K-1 as an upgrade to my K-3, a comparison would be great! In particular image quality and dynamic range. I also badly the want the 300mm f4 so I'll be looking forward to that review. It would be great if you could compare how 300mm performs on full frame vs APSC. Thanks again!

      I was very interested in the K1, right up until I walked into the camera store to test it out. Within a minute I knew it wasn't the camera for me. So heavy it could have been carved from marble, I found the dial and button layout to be ill-judged, I also found it uglier than online images of it would suggest. The Pentax apsc cameras have a rich line of superb lenses, something the K1 is still lacking. No doubt the IQ is fantastic,, and the price is a real bargain, but I suggest you at least test one out before you buy. Be careful of your back when you pick it up!

      Hi Saurat thanks for the advice! Sounds like you might not be a Pentax shooter? The looks and button layout are quite in line with my current K-5 and K-3, I actually quite like that look and layout, so no surprises there. Weight is what I expected, similar to a D810, a lot lighter than a D5 or Canon1 DX, weight won't be an issue. Most of the time it will be mounted on a tripod. Every full frame prime and zoom lens I need is already in the Pentax line-up 15-30mm, 43mm, 77mm, 100mm Macro and 150-450mm, so I'm covered there as well. If you're coming from Nikon or Canon, naturally things would seem foreign and require some adjustment but that would be the same if you're going the other way too.Judging by the images I've seen coming out of the camera and with the above mentioned lenses I think I'm going to love it! Now I just need to sell some gear!

    I really don’t see the attraction of the 20-40. Apart from its aesthetics(which are lovely in the limited range) it’s not nearly as versatile as the 16-50. Horses for courses I guess, but for me the 16-50 is the better all-rounder.

      Have you used the 20-40mm?

    • @bertjilk3456
      @bertjilk3456 3 года назад

      @@leehaze1 No, I haven’t. I couldn’t justify the expense when I already have the 16-50. As I mentioned, it seems less capable in most respects.

      @@bertjilk3456 It is just one of those lenses you got to try. I had some of the same thoughts. But I read so many great reviews and saw many nice captures I had to try it. One of the best lens purchases I ever made. Rent it or Buy it from a places that offers returns if not satisfied. I am sure you will enjoy. Thanks for watching.

      @@leehaze1 well, I live in Thailand these days (where availability of Pentax is even less than most places), and my budget doesn’t extend to new camera gear at the moment. If I did find myself with spare funds, I think I’d be getting a K-1 with 24-70. That’s been top of my wish list for ages.
      But, thanks for your reply. It would have been good to see some comparative shots between the two lenses. Just a suggestion 🙂

    I'd understand it if this lens would be around 500, maybe 600 euros. As it is though, it costs 900 euros here in The Netherlands. Which seems an awful lot for a lens with limited zoom range and aperture and, according to the reviews I've read, good but not great image quality.

    • @starbase218
      @starbase218 7 лет назад

      Well, I have learned the hard way that having a good sample of almost any lens is worth far more than having a mediocre sample of a top-of-the-line lens. Maybe some of the reviewers had bad samples. Still, I haven't seen a single reasonably objective review that states it is good value for money.

      I don't contradict what you said. I just have a different POV I think.

      The 20-40mm does not really work in full frame mode on the K-1. It has bad vignetting.

    • @leehaze1
      @leehaze1  7 лет назад

      It is bad at 40mm as well.

      How about with the new 1:1 crop mode?
