Honestly. People need to hydrate their hair. And she hydrates then seals it in with water. The water is probably what's keeping the retention. Natural hair enthusiasts hardly talk about how important hydrating hair is (not moisture even though that's equally important but wate)
After using a bunch of products all i use is aloe vera juice to spray on my parts, avocado oil after and flaxeed gel on my roots and on my ends to seal. Thats it.and finally im retaining lenth
@Storytellers_Tale7388 honey is a humectant that draws moisture from the air. I use the mixture (2 cups of aloe/2tbs each honey and glycerin)after every wash/condition day. I use just enough for each section of my hair to coat the hair and follow it with leave in and sealant. You don't want drench or overdue it. I freeze leftovers until the following wash day. Do not microwave. Let it thaw at room temperature.
@@sweetbliss710 obviously genetics play a role too but yes, vitamins def help with growth! They never said it was the only way or reason people have long nails.
Its actually the water moisturizing her hair, not the oil. The oil keeps water from escaping throughout the day or overnight, so the hair stays moist and strong / not breaking. Our hair just needs water and oil. All hair butters are, is water, other nutrients in a buttery form to do what oil and water do at once. I am category 4, and all I use is chebe powder mixed with my rice water hair butter, after wetting my hair. Seal with castor oil (I prefer heavy oils) and my hair stays moisturized for a week. It is bra strap length after this routine for a year, and has surpassed my "breakage" point. Black women have avoided water for many hairstyles (relaxed, straight) or water being dried out from synthetic braids and wigs. Our hair can not be dry; water retention is the #1 way to long ass black hair ❤
@@LethalLemonLime Technically I never said anything about her saying oil moisturizes hair. I just made a statement that oil doesn't moisturize in general...so...
@@ev6564 Actually no, oil doesn't moistirize nor does grease - I was surprised to learn. Oil creates a barrier water can not pass through, so it holds it against the skin or hair. Our hair can pick up or lose water from the air like our skin, so our body secretes sebum to help seal it in. If you only use oil and never spritz or add water / waterbased product / steam, the hair feels waaay dryer. Out skin can stsy hydrated from osmosis via water traveling through skin layers, but hair is dead, so the cells can't really transfer water. I used to just use oil, but my hair kept being really dry 😞
Agreed! Olive oil is so good on its own. I use it sometimes as hot oil treatment in my 4c natural hair . It really helped my hair grow out thick and well when i first transitioned from relaxed hair to natural hair years back ❤❤
Love oiled black hair twists. Always amazing to see how you can get so many thick braids/twists. Do you use hair ties, or do they just stay? Your hair is so healthy-looking & shiny - pretty.
I recently found out that olive oil is moderately comedogenic but I love the moisture and shine is gives my hair🤤 So now I'm torn between picking a less comedogenic oil or sticking with olive oil. Do you moisturize your scalp with it also? I would love your feedback ❤
Please stop spreading this myth about genetics and being "blessed". Not taking care of your hair properly is what leads to so many BW having damaged, short hair. And half of it is because of misinformation like this spreading. Not tryna be combative but letting go of that myth will set you free. If your hair isn't growing, it's because you're not doing something right in your routine. Our hair is sensitive and works better when you don't manipulate it and seal the ends.
I use hair grease/oil and my hair instantly became healthier. My curls came back and my hair became softer. Hopefully after a yr my hair will continue to grow longer.
Question: Has anyone else found the hair in the front of their head to grow thinner than the back? 😢 I love my hairs progress but I cant get the front to look fuller. Maybe genetics?
Your length retention is amazing!
Thank you love! 🩷

Try Twelve12 plant based products
Similar routine here..I use natural Aloe vera plant strained, with vegetable glycerin and honey, add olive oil to seal. Simple!
Same!!! (Except I haven’t tried avocado oil. I use either castor oil or a blend of grapeseed, olive, rosemary)

you see how healthy her nails are that growth is coming from the inside. Vitamins are also key ❤️

Yes vitamins are fundamental
My nails used to grow long and healthy like this. But after I had my son all they do is break off 😫

She said that the oil conditions her hair. She didn't say it moisturizes. Technically she is absolutely correct that the oil conditions her hair.

Both oil and water moisturize. Moisturizing is simply lubricating the hair or skin.
Water hydrates.
Oil, butter, or grease seals in the hydration.
