I told some friends of mine who are big Babylon 5 fans about this story line and they had never heard of it. I remember distinctly seeing a video of this final story with Marcus and Ivanova, but I've never been able to track it down. There is a certain creep factor to the story, but I think they both knew that they would have been together if circumstances had permitted it, but they were constantly being pulled apart, until death separated them. It was Marcus' pure love for Ivanova that elevates the story (Recall that Marcus was a virgin). After years of war, loss, privation, and sacrifice, he decided to be selfish for both of them. If for nothing else than to give them a few decades together spent in peace and love. The story may clash with modern mores, but I think it's one of the greatest love stories ever written.
I recall enjoying this when I read it about 13 years ago. But having you note how it is somewhat creepy, I can't help but agree. That's not to say I wouldn't have done the same thing myself if the opportunity was there. I lost my fiancé back in 2004, and even after all this time, I don't think I would be above doing this.
Thank you so much for covering *_Babylon 5_* material. Such videos are few and far between on YT, and very much appreciated.
*EDIT:* After reading some other comments, I realize that there is also an ethical debate which also makes one wonder if *Marcus* has it in his character to do such a thing. I would think not during the time that we see him in the show. However *given his circumstances,* _the impact of which cannot be understated,_ I can see this happening within my own headcanon.
Be well!🙋🏼♂️
That was actually a great ending to their story! After everything they endured they deserved this happy ending!
The vorlon transport was destroyed when krosh and Sheridan killed the fake krosh. They trap the two vorlons in the ship and blow it up.
It regrew itself in space right outside of the station. This was never shown on TV, but it reported that it was going to be shown at some point either in the spinoff show as part of the story line of the shadow technology being sold.
Oh yes, this story caused quite the debate back in the day, with most people feeling that Marcus marooning himself with his own personal Susan Ivanova clone in the hopes they’d fall in love was reckless and unethical. Worst case scenario: Marcus is dead within the year or maybe they just break up and then Marcus has to pack his stuff and move to the other side of the planet.
At the time I was involved in continuity for B5, and had to read and watch everything. I never thought this story worked, it was just bad. It shows Marcus to be a creep, and removes Ivanova’s agency.
Thanks buddy
No problem 👍
I agree, this sounds wrong, with extremely high chances of outright disaster, but also lying to Ivanova and trapping her with him. Not only that, but I remember seeing Ulkesh's transport explode in the final showdown between Ulkesh and the piece of Kosh after the former fled from Babylon 5 Security . . . so it wouldn't have been available for this storyline.
Interesting story, a bit dark then. But it doesn't sound like something Markus would have done.
I loved the ending, they both get to live the life they always wanted, free from war and troubles that plagued them.
I guess it comes down to, is it really her or just a copy? If its just a copy, then is it really him? He was was dead for 300 years, so what is there is just a body with physical memories just like she has.
What makes you....you...
That's point well taken, but if Clone of Susan Ivanova didn't know was she was copy of Original.. Although Marcus knew he never had reason to tell her. Although he been officially dead for years, it was still his Original body and mind Just as long both loved each other and were content, why spoil everything irrelevant circumstances.
I agree the ending was a bit creepy at some point you have just let go anything more and you are liveing a lie
Jesus, is this ‘Passenger’ plot or is it just me?
........that's not healthy.
Unpopular opinion; this is a terrible "ending" and should never have been part of cannon. This is not a happy ending, image the mind F*** moment when clone Susan realizes the truth.
Marcus should have been allowed to stay dead and Susan should have gone through a grief cycle and allowed to move on.
So, Marcus made a copy of Susan, what's wrong with that?
The real Susan is dead.
It's not so much that he made a copy of her, it's that he trapped her and lied to her removing her agency. Marcus was my favorite character, but what he did in the end was just messed up. If you actually love someone would you lie and imprison them for your own gain?
This is all wrong , if u see the season 4 episode I don't remember but when kosh and ulkesh fight the ship ulkesh came in is destroyed in the aftermath.
It regrew itself in space right outside of the station. This was never shown on TV, but it reported that it was going to be shown at some point either in the spinoff show as part of the story line of the shadow technology being sold. The ship ended being put in Ivanova's warlock ship because of the hidden shadow technology in the ship.
