The Aston Martin DB5 is a British grand tourer (GT) produced by Aston Martin and designed by Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.[4] Originally produced from 1963 to 1965, the DB5 was an evolution of the final series of DB4. The "DB" designation is from the initials of David Brown who built up the company from 1947 onwards.
The DB5 is best-known for its role in the James Bond films. It was first driven by the fictional spy in the film Goldfinger (1964).[5] In 2013, the car featured on a "British Auto Legends" postage stamp issued by the Royal Mail.
The Aston Martin DB5 became widely known after special effects expert John Stears modified a DB5 for use by James Bond in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Author Ian Fleming had placed Bond in a DB Mark III in the novel, but Stears persuaded the company to make its DB5 prototype available.[17]
There were a total of four Goldfinger DB5s. Two of these were used in filming and two were used only for promotional purposes. The first filming car, DP/2161/1, was fitted with gadgets.[18] This DB5 was the original prototype and was painted Dubonnet Red. Before it appeared in Goldfinger, it was used in episode 2.17, "The Noble Sportsman," of The Saint. This car, chassis number DP/216/1, was later stripped of its weaponry and gadgetry by Aston Martin and resold. It was then retrofitted by subsequent owners with non-original weaponry. It later appeared in the film The Cannonball Run (1981), in which it was driven by Roger Moore. Chassis DP/216/1 DB5 was stolen in 1997 from its last owner in Florida and was reported to be still missing in 2021.[19][20] The second filming car, DB5/1486/R, was used for driving scenes and had no gadgets. After filming, gadgets were added and the car was used for promotion. It featured the pop-out gun barrels behind the front indicators, the bullet shield behind the rear window and a three-way revolving front number plate showing "LU 6789" or "4711-EA-62" or "BMT 216A." In 2010 RM Auctions sold this car for $4.6 million to Harry Yeaggy.[21][22] The first publicity car, DB5/2017/R, was acquired by the Louwman Museum in The Hague. These two cars were displayed at the 1964 New York World's Fair to promote the film. - Авто/Мото
Great Job. I wanted this one so bad. You always make model car builds look so easy and this one (IMHO) of the most famous car in the world is no different. My kit is on the way. "Nicely done Mr. Bond".
Great build Chris.i'm going to get this one. Keep em coming, i'll keep watching.
I'm really impressed with the level of detail in this kit, and I won't be surprised if one of the aftermarket companies eventually comes out with a resin or 3D printed engine for that nicely done engine bay, even though the car is never seen with its hood open in any of the movies I have seen it appear in. I think I'd have to get two of these; one to do as the James Bond car since I have loved those films from childhood, and another to do completely stock in a different color.
What an iconic motorcar. Well done Chris.
Thank you for another awesome build Cris looks great an I appreciate the time you invest in your video that you make for all of us 👍👍
James Bond is Awesome 👍 🇬🇧
Best Bond Goldfinger DB5 kit since the sixties! Nice job Chris and Revell. Thanks for the review. GUY; hpi ; GUY!
Red on Bottom Great Job👍
Cool car, Chris!!!!
Only bond need is James Bond. Beauty...
Thanks for the build.
It should be top orange middle red clear at the bottom. The Manuel had both versions wrong. I looked at images online and looked at a corgi Db5. Love your videos hp. I get a lot great modeling tips.
Great kit 👍
Restoring the van and engine swapping it would be a piece of cake compared to restoring the boat part of it and putting a modern van or truck on it
There are 2 RUclips videos that show Aston them building the 25 continuation new DB5 where their show and talk about the correct colors . Great reference for detailing and the Jay Leno show video where he actually drives the continuation DB5 . There is also 2 versions of this kit ,the stock one and the enhanced kit which includes detailing paint plus extra stuff . This a good build video but the the bumpettes retainers go on after they go through the body pan so you can extend them .
A little Bond theme music at the end would have certainly been apropos.
Really nice
Great job on the build. Love the shine you got on the chassis!
Very nice work on this one. That seems like a great kit. Thanks for sharing.
Great kit, just finished mine, thanks for all you do
I ordered mine today! $70 wow!!! Great job Chris!! I love the car!!
Nice job on the review and nice build great kit thanks for sharing Chris
Nice kit, all the little James Bond extras.
That was the same thing with the Land Rover B III with the tail lights in the manual too from Revell Germany.
Great job on the Aston Martin Chris👍
the only picture I can find shows the top and center being red
anyway looks like a very nice change for snap fit models
Job well Done REVELL.!!💯💯🤗
Hello Chris your builds always Great!!!!!!!! and greatly narrated!!!!!! Thank you big Bond fan can not wait to get this kit!! oh no its not the glass sticker, anyone who criticizes needs to find a new hobby!!!!!!!!!
Cool as always. 👍
Great kit . Awesome opening.
SOOO KOOOOLLLLL
MIKE
That looks like a really well-engineered kit. It might be a good placeholder until my ‘71 Demon arrives.
Very good Chris! Excellent detail all the way! Happy 2024!
It'd be fun to build it so the ejector seat actually works. 😂 Would've loved to have had this when I was a kid.
Excellent looking kit ,very impressive and a honest review 👌
Hi Chris - here in the UK, the amber turn indicator light always goes at the top of the light cluster. It's the same for all cars, not just Aston Martin. One other thing, and not easy at 1/24th scale.... DB5's have a discreet trim badge on either side of the air intake bulge which reads 'Superleggra'. That's the Italian design house who styled the body. You can barely see it in most photos of DB5's but, see one for real and it's there. Pity they didn't include it with the decals
Oh yes they did!
Glad you got this sent to you because the price of these kits are getting out of hand. I know the point is to get us to buy one but honestly Revell can go kick rocks.
exceptional 👍
That’s a terrific build, am very impressed. One point of order though, those aren’t Bucket Seats, bucket seats have sides to them, as found on racing cars to hold you steady for greater support while cornering….just thought I’d say.
A couple of things the rear lights are oil spray and the guns were guns were in the front the smoke addmitors came from the tail pipe.
I got this kit when I was nine or ten years old. The ejection seat was spring loaded and had a figure that could actually be launched. Being so young after building the kit raw out of the box I trashed it. I've been searching to buy it again and now it's been re-released, hooozah! I've already reserved one at the local hobby shop.... well done by the way.
I don’t think the seat ejects.
Great build,
Very nice Christopher
"The name's Bond, James Bond" 😊❤👍
Very cool build
If that movie had been done in the Covid pandemic, it would've been called Brown finger! That said, really great build and really good kit, I hope they do a stock version of it.
All new. Aston. Martin. DB5. James. Bond reveiw
Coooool !
Love it!!!! Been a Bond fan since I was a kid, loved the cars and the gadgets. I really enjoyed the video and review. Keep up the great work. (As Q would say, "Try to bring back the DB-5 in pristine condition, double 0 7". Lol!!
"DON'T Touch That! Thats my lunch." 😂
Fun!!
👍👍👍👍
The quality of the fit is fantastic. I just wish they had added a working ejector seat, drop-down tail lights and retractable tire slashers so we wouldn't have to choose spy or stock.
regarding their new "easy click system", I wonder if they are taking a que from the japanese gundam style kits. well detailed, parts molded in appropriate colors, and no glue required. I'm excited to see and get this kit.
Aston, not Austin. David brown weeps from the other side. Great kit. Looks nice just clear-coated.
One thing I have learned is that DB stands for David Brown..... yeah, the farm tractor company . Yes David Brown owned Aston Martin at one time.
glad to see this un had an original that I think was by Aurora if I remember right there was figures with it(not sure) the ejection seat was spring loaded and would actually eject was lost along with many other rare models when my grand mother purged all them plastic toys in the early 70s guess gonna have to get one
I just don't care for building curb sides. I much prefer my kit to have intentionally opening hoods, or in this case bonnets, and engines. Yes, a curb side can be modified to for that, I just don't want to have to make that mod. Otherwise, this Aston Martin looks great. Amazing work as always, Chris.
15:20 It's the Angry Grandpa theme song!
Hi Chris, wonderful kit , I was wondering what that tool you used on the dashboard decals , cheers from u.k
When are you going to do the Dodge truck
The James bond 007 DB5 aston martin had machine guns hidden behind the turn signals.
Where the tail lights are concerned the Orange is on the top, Red is in the middle, Clear (back-up) light on the bottom. I know that you can't change yours but maybe anyone out there building one can use the info.
I understand prices have increased , and Revell’s Europe boxed items are 10-20$ more ....BUT Thursday night at my favourite local hobby shops and saw this kit ( in the Euro box ) and the price tag was 92$ CDN !!! For a lousy SNAP KIT
Yeah, no. I think I would've called the store owner out on that one. Should've asked him if the 9 and the 2 were backwards.
Bonjour c'est vraiment dommage qu'il n'y ait pas le moteur dans ce kit😢
I'm glad we have the choice of building this with or without the Bond gimmicks. I choose the latter.
BTW Chris, did you ever follow through on my tip on where to get the super gloss Mod Podge? Just curious as I saw you're still using the regular gloss brand.
I snagged it in the craft section of Walmart, thanks!
I've always used the Super Gloss and the regular gloss is much thinner, works well for coating dash gauges, etc.
Thanks!
If you can find the old Monogram Aston Martin DB4, you can probly steal the engine out of it.
Too bad I just cant bring myself to buy anything without a motor. Looks great tho.
Dear Revell, since there is a chance you actually watch his videos, please give us a real, clean, non-snap, full engine detail, aston martin db5 without the silly "gadgets" and the terrible "ejector seat" sink marks ruining half the roof. Just a clean stock db5.
