The Chevrolet Corvette (C1) is the first generation of the Corvette sports car produced by Chevrolet. It was introduced late in the 1953 model year and produced through 1962.[4] This generation is commonly referred to as the "solid-axle" generation, as the independent rear suspension did not appear until the 1963 Sting Ray.
The Corvette was rushed into production for its debut model year to capitalize on the enthusiastic public reaction to the concept vehicle, but expectations for the new model were largely unfulfilled.[5] Reviews were mixed and sales fell far short of expectations through the car's early years. The program was nearly canceled, but Chevrolet decided to make necessary improvements.
The most expensive Corvette (C1) to sell in history was sold by Barrett-Jackson in the United States in March 2021 for $825,000 (~$825,000 in 2021) (£591,470).
For the 1958 model, an 8000 rpm tachometer was used with the 240 and 290 hp (179 and 216 kW) engines, rather than the 6000 rpm units used in the lower horsepower engines. Optional engine choices included two with twin carburetors (including a 270 hp (201 kW) version with Carter 2613S and 2614S WCFB four-barrels) and two with fuel injection. The power output for the highest-rated fuel-injected engine was 290 hp (216 kW). Displacement remained 283 cu in (4.6 L). For the first time, seat belts were factory-installed rather than dealer-installed as on previous models.[18] Options that were not popular included RPO 684 heavy-duty brakes and suspension (144), RPO 579 250 hp (186 kW) engine (554), and RPO 276 15×5.5-inch steel road wheels (404).[24]
There were fewer and heavier teeth in the grill in 1960
The last features to appear in 1960 models included taillamps molded into the rear fenders and heavy grill teeth. New features include aluminum radiators, but only with 270 and 290 hp (201 and 216 kW) engines. Also for the first time, all fuel-injection engines required manual transmissions.[18] The 1960s Cascade Green was metallic, unique to the year, and the most infrequent color at 140 made. Options that were not often ordered included RPO 579 250 hp (186 kW) engine (100), RPO 687 heavy-duty brakes and suspension (119), RPO 276 15×5.5-inch steel road wheels (246), RPO 473 power convertible top (512), and RPO 426 power windows (544).

Ah, if only Round2 finally understood that nostalgia ISN'T always the way to go. I thought this kit could've been good with just certain new modern parts (like reworking the headlights to make them have transparent lenses), but after seeing the build and result, as someone said in the comments, might be time to retire this one and make a complete new tooling of this 2n1 kit. That said, Chris, you made something nice out of it.

February 1960 at a huge military base in Montana, near the Canadian border a friend of my Dad's from "work" had saved for four years to buy a new car and he picked a blue Corvette. It was like having a spaceship land in the 1880's. People were in awe. I was blown away as he gave me a ride around the base - what a thrill for a 13 year old!!! This build is impressive. Thank you Chris, fr another fun Saturday.

Just recently discovered your channel and gave it a view. I’ve watched several other model makers and they are good, but they use the fancy air brushes and such to do the painting. When you pulled out the ole rattle cans and painted your model it was a flashback for me,that’s exactly how I used to paint mine and they came out great. I like the simpler ways and you do great work and you have a new subscriber.

I built the late 70s issued kit with the original box art. I built it just like it was shown on the box. Built it for my father in law who had the kit originally. It was still in its original cellophane wrap. All I can remember, it did go together okay. Typical 70s molding and fitment issues. But my father in law enjoyed it. He still has it displayed in his "man cave" to this day.

Always liked these early Vettes. Don't sweat the wheel backs sticking out; same thing happened with the 41 Plymouth I'm building. They look like brake drums and are entirely consistent with the era and your build, although I did narrow mine some to fit better with the steelies I'm using in my version. Cheers!

You did a very nice job with this one. The dark red looks great with the white exterior. It seems like Round 2 did a good job on this issue. I build an earlier release of this kit with similar results, but the decals in this version are a lot better. Thanks for sharing.

Love those old fashioned AMT (also MPC and JoHan) kits. All are well scaled and proportioned. And when the engine compartment are not to our exprectatives we can simply glue the hood shut and have a nice model for display. Thanks for sharing. Regards from Brasil.

Just dropping by to say that I really enjoy your channel. Been watching in the background for a couple years now. Wanted to ask you, been wondering for awhile now, what do you do with all these models you do? Super curious to see how you display/organize them all. Could you show us that sometime? Thanks for keeping the channel going and always looking forward to see what you build next. Your channel definitely helped me as I got back into the hobby. Cheers and stay warm!

I like the mild custom approach you've taken to this model; I think it's always fun to exercise your creativity in using the optional parts and decals they give you in these kits to make them uniquely yours. Not sure whether you've built any of the Revell first gen Corvettes, because I'm curious as to how they compare to these older AMT ones. I know this is a straight from the box build, but now you mention the tire dilemma, thankfully some of these Round 2 models come with a lot of different tires in them; I guess you can always raid the spares box to resolve that.

Thanks for all your great videos! When I built this model in the 70’s it was necessary to scrape chrome plating off the gluing areas so they would stick. Do you do that off camera or are there modern adhesives that penetrate the plating?

Where did you purchased your chromed hand drilling tool?
It even looks like it has a hex-head that would work with a ratchet and socket.
I don't find anything like it at Hobby Lobby or my usual hobby stores.
(they have some screwdriver bits, but no drill bits)
