This is great. As a kid, I always LOVED James Bond, and never understood why there were no toys around for me to buy.

I had the Corgi James Bond Aston Martin toy car as a kid. It was a beautiful toy.
It did everything this Playmobil Aston does, bullet shield, bumper extention, rotating license plate, spikes come out of the tires, and the ejector seat with person in seat to be ejected. It was made of mostly die cast metal and some plastic.
      Really great toy.
Actually, it was really my dad's toy. After I broke a couple of its features and lost the guy who gets ejected my dad said:
      "Okay, that's yours now."
And went and bought another one for himself and kept it where I couldn't get to it...

As a Bond fan, I absolutely LOVE this Playmobil release. They continue to hit it out of the park with their licensed vehicles.

the ejector seat was pulled off flawlessly. the figure even gets launched the proper height to match up with the scene in the movie. A lot of other toys with ejector seats launch the figure into the stratosphere lol. as for the characters, Big agree on the choice of outfit for Bond. The grey 3 piece or the white dinner tux with flower would have been awesome. If I had to swap one character out for Tilly i suppose i'd pick Odd Job, as the henchmen is needed to recreate the ejector seat scene.

No guns for the A-Team, and from what I've seen no gun for Magnum PI either. I think the licensors just don't want guns included with the licensed sets.

Makes me kinda regret not being a Playmobil kid, but Lego had everything I wanted when I was a kid in the early 90's. As I was aging out and wanting to collect Gundam by 99 and 2000, I finally saw more Playmobil stuff out there and was always curious. I will say the best set you guys covered was the bank set.

I’m really enjoying your passion for the playmobil licensed sets. I’ve been picking them up slowly on Amazon warehouse deals or sales for my daughter after seeing your videos. When she’s a bit older the A Team will be helping the Ghostbusters to investigate the mystery of the haunted car, KITT. I’m surprised the market isn’t flooded with speculators based on the amount of licenses and sets they have that don’t get toy lines elsewhere.

  • @2Hats74

As kids, my brother and I really didn't like Playmobil - we thought of it as a poor cousin to Lego. And we wanted Lego.
But this? WOW! I got mine on sale at Amazon for $43. How can you possibly beat that? It's fantastic.

There's nothing like Ernie Anderson announcing what's next on TV. Classic voice.
Playmobil did it again on this one. It's so very tempting. I may have to break my own rules. Pity they didn't choose the classic three piece gray suit for Connery, as you mentioned.

As a Bond nut myself, this Aston Martin looks like perfection, I’m just impressed with the number of features they incorporated into it.
As far as female characters go, aside from the ones you mentioned, I would’ve also been fine with the granny that was wielding the MP40 when Bond tried to escape from Goldfingers goons.

  • @boblowes
    @boblowes 10 месяцев назад +2

There's a tux-wearing spy character from the Playmobil Movie called Rex Dasher. His tux is almost exactly the same as the one on the 007 figure - I think the screen printing is slightly different in that Rex Dasher's bottom button is a straight line (lo look like it's unbuttoned), but other than that, it's exactly the same as the one they've used here.

  • @mickmo4700
    @mickmo4700 10 месяцев назад +4

I haven't heard anything about Playmobil extending the 007 range. If it is a one and done, then that would explain the tux. It might not match the DB5 but it provides an iconic look for their Bond figure. They really should have included the grey suited Bond though. I really can't understand the reluctance to provide guns with certain sets when others come with an abundance of hardware. The star of the set is definitely the DB5 and it is a wonderful toy.

I have gotten back into the Bond movies, I would've loved if they released a figure set with all the versions of James Bond, which I think they won't do but still everyone grew up with their favorite Bond as well with villains and the Bond girls. As always a great video, this set looks really cool. The car alone would look great for display.

As a kid, I think the first Bond movie I actually watched (they were on TV a lot, but I rarely paid attention until I was old enough to appreciate them) was the George Lazenby one. I had no idea at the time that the actors changed. I did have the little Corgi cars, including the version of this one, and loved them even before I had seen the movies. Of course the ejector seat got lost pretty quickly.

I saw a review for this awhile ago and I was wondering when you were gonna get this. This is absolutely a pure passion product with Playmobil. What they're doing now is beyond anyone except for Lego.
And Michael, like you I remember watching ABC TV on Sunday nights whenever a Bond movie was on. Just the best times as a kid.
And I agree the car from living daylights is absolutely a beautiful car. The twin missiles were the most awesome thing....

Said it before, I’ll say it again! If I could even remotely think about collecting another line of toys Playmobile would be it! I have loved that toy line since I was a kid, and playing with my nephews and all there stuff. The pirate ships, the racing teams, city setups, and the western sets! So much fun! And you could always do so much with these sets. I’m getting all nostalgic and s**t here. I need to make sure I stay away from eBay tonight. Awesome set and great review. Hope to see you do a custom Bond in the right driving suit and white tuxedo some day. Playmobile was one of my earliest toy lines I was obsessed with, even before Adventure People and right after (and alongside) G.I. Joe. I remember wishing for so many of these liscensed tie-ins from them and now that we've had 2 of the big dreams, Trek and Bond, here's to once again hoping for the third someday, Heston's Planet of the Apes.

It's odd about the Bond figure - I do wonder if EON Productions had said to Playmobil: "We want him in a dinner jacket with bow tie, please." It's well known that the actor who is currently portraying Bond, is contract bound NOT to wear a tuxedo and bow tie in any movie they make outside the Bond franchise. The tux + dickie bow combo seems to be a Bond trademark.

I think it was smart to make Bond in his black tuxedo, because when the general public thinks of James Bond, they think of him in the tuxedo. Now yes, for this SPECIFIC set it’s inaccurate but I’d be willing to sacrifice accuracy for instant recognizability of the character.
It’s not that different from the Ectomobile sets from the playmobil Ghostbusters lines; the Ecto-1 only came with Winston and a VERY inaccurate Jannie Melnitz, and the Ecto-1A had the 4 busters in their black jumpsuits with final battle equipment despite the fact that they never wore the black jumpsuits in the final battle.
It feels like Playmobil is in that perfect dilemma/balance between being Movie Specific/Accurate and being General Public Understanding with their licensed toys.

Love how this Aston Martin came out Playmobil really knock it out of the park for their licensed partnerships. I much prefer this over the Lego speed champions version which is nice but lacks features. I do find it a little peculiar that both Lego and Playmobil put Bond in tuxedos when neither of them are wearing one in the DB5. Playmobil still pulls away however with the multiple figures and feature-full Aston Martin.

Maybe they have used the black Tuxedo, because the greyish Tweed-suit would not have a great contrast with the silver-greyish car?
I'm not quite sure but I think that I have also seen some black-suited Bonds in the Aston Martin by Corgi.
Fun Fact: I got this car from Corgi as a kid when I haven't seen the movie yet. So it was logical to me that the man with the gun must be James Bond. And the man behind the wheel was his helper. The ejection seat was for me also a help for James Bond to jump into action/to get over high walls fast.

Hey Mike, how positive are you Goldfinger is suppose to have binoculars? I'm asking because bubba I think they're suppose to go with Bond. There is a few scenes where when 007 trails Goldfinger to his plant & uses a pair of binoculars to scope out the layout of the plant. It's after he drops Tilly off at the garage. Being a Trekie Level 007 fan and this is one of my Top 10, maybe Top 5 Bond films. Besides it's my Dad's favorites of the series.

Ah yes, whatever OO7 flick that played as the ABC Sunday Night Movie - which would start at 8 PM Central Time - I'd be having to beg my parents that it was just about over, when it's easily 11:00 PM at night; and it's probably somewhere in the middle of the final act. "No, no, please, I need to make sure that Lynn-Holly Johnson is okay!" You'll generally get 12 minutes of commercials per hour, but on ABC, I'd swear it was a 50/50 split in commercial time per hour.
If I made it to the roman numerals at the end of the credits, it's because they eventually gave up and went to bed.

I totally agree. Playmobil did a great job. The db5 is ten times better the lego one. The large lego one. The small lego dd5 in the speedchampion series is quite good, but a lot of decals. Nevertheless i like the playmobil, but I wont buy it. I am looking for a smaller one as diecast version. Keep up the good work. 😊

Nice review, and yeah the black tux is weird, but is most likely because when you think Bond you think black tux like you said. Plus if they gave him one you would like, others would ask why not a black one. As for not having a Bond girl, it is sad. But I think the generic bad guy was the better pick, why because of the cars eject seat. It was a generic bad guy, that was ejected, so to recreate that scene they pick the bad guy.
Also yeah if Playmobil can reuse assets they well, but its a good idea. It saves them money, which they then use to keep prices lower. Because for every new thing made, and the more R&D done on stuff. The higher the price at the end, because the money spent to do it. Is going to be passed on, as that is just business.

I agree, Bond's outfit is wrong for this figure, specially when you consider how iconic the tuxedo with the white jacket and the gray three piece suit are.

Ha. Always funny when you talk about The Living Daylights as we’re in the minority when it comes to liking that movie. Great car but Bond has had a lot of great cars, the DB5 being another one.

No idea. But that's not really an excuse for Playmobil's effort.
