Blofeld could have been a villian who wasn't behind everything necessarily, but someone who benefited from the actions of Bond. A literal shadow/spectre of Bond, who has been climbing the criminal and government hierarchy ladder with the bodies Bond leaves in his wake, wiping out Blofeld's competition (Quantum) in the process. And in the climax to rub salt in the wound, Blofeld would laugh in Bond's face and say how in a lot of ways Bond is his best agent and might as well work for him.
The entire movie seemed written like high-school fan fiction. How does Bond not recognize his half-brother? Utter ridiculous nonsense. Quantum was a better film, and they had a writer's strike. Silva was a much more capable villain and it's hard to see him willingly work for anyone. The "romance" between the leads was laughable. Bedding the widow on the funeral of her husband was crass and vulgar. Blofeld was not smart, clever, nor dangerous. Bond has his brain fried but it doesn't affect his balance, his aim, or his facial recognition software. Who wrote and approved this garbage?
You forgot that Q placed the ring on a magical laptop scanner, that recognized the DNA of LeChiffre, Greene, and Silva (even though Marco Sciarra & Bond last wore it)... meaning that Sciarra last shook hands with THE LAST THREE Bond villains and never washed his hand? And THEN the laptop deduced the hierarchy of SPECTRE, just from the ring? And if QUANTUM truly was just a "tentacle", the same QUANTUM that M said "who are these people?! How do we know nothing about them?" ...and a single ring placed on a laptop solve the entire mystery in a matter of seconds. Horse. Shit.
This. Like, look at how other terrorist/illuminati like organisations have been portrayed in other movies-HYDRA in winter soldier, the syndicate in the mission impossible movies....they're tough, nobody knows what and when and where will they strike from, and even if they capture a leader/villain from the organisation they come back again and with a stronger villain in the next movie. But spectre? Remember how crazy and mysterious quantum was in the first two movies, and the depth of their presence in the world was scary? Yeah no, bond blows up his half brother's HQ and captures him by shooting his helicopter. Like wtf.
"meaning that Sciarra last shook hands with THE LAST THREE Bond villains and never washed his hand? " more meaning that Sciarra managed to conserve DNA for years on a ring... rain, dust, even just time will wreck that stuff long before Sciarra check an another hand.
@@alfredvalrie5541 I agree. Maybe Blofeld financed his operation to be a thorn in Bonds side but he still doesn’t fit well with Spectre. I did not like Silva or maybe the problem was I couldn’t hate Silva like other Bond films. If Silva was Edmond Dante’s in the Count Of Monte Cristo we would have applauded him. One reason why I did not like Skyfall as much. The world is not black and white and films are not black and white, but I do expect that in Bond movies. Make the villain evil.
That was (one of) the worst thing about SPECTRE: it took away the agency - the ability to act on their own - of all of Craig's previous antagonists & suddenly they're all working for SPECTRE, mere hired hands. One of the many poor decisions this film made...and by the way, Fallopium...you drop waaaay too many F-bombs, you really should cut down a bit.
You’re one of the first people to acknowledge the fact that the abysmal storyline of Spectre ruins the films leading up to it. That really doesn’t get talked about enough IMO.
@@christopherandersen714 I heavily disagree with the first 3 being a downward spiral. Quantum Of Solace was terrible and suffered from similar problems that plagued Spectre, but idk if you remember this, the main reason Quantum Of Solace was so bad was because of the writers strike that occurred back in 07-08, Daniel Craig said he spent a lot of the time re-writing lines for that film(that says a lot) Skyfall was a SIGNIFICANT step up, on par with Casino Royale at the very least. Spectre didn’t have to go in the direction it went in, the events of Skyfall really had no influence on where this story went.
@@Chris24_ just like last jedi, Skyfall was a divisive film that fans either loved or hated. It broke characters like Q and killed off characters just to have them brought back as ghosts to drive the final truly awful film and the fact that skyfall had no influence where the story went also makes it like last jedi since tros retcon'd much of last jedi. *edit* Just to be clear I am in no way saying qos or spectre are better than skyfall ;)
Austin Powers was so ahead of its time. It even parodied the James Bond movies of the future. James Bond movies that hadn't even been released yet. A true pioneer!
I'm glad Mendes came out of this disaster stronger than ever with 1917. The recent documentary "Being James Bond" went into Spectre stating that Mendes didn't want to do it and had to be talked into it, and according to them "really got into it". Everyone can tell that's not what happened.
Also, seeing Mr White go from field agent of the organisation to making his way up the chain each time we see him to the leader would have been great. Similar to how Bond went from a rough around the edges agent to a pro. Parallel character progressions for two enemies.
After rewatching this before “No time to die” and having read the whole “Spectre” licensing deal getting renewed after Skyfall, I think Eon Productions just wanted to capitalize on the fact that they got Spectre as an IP now so they thought let’s make a Spectre movie right now, name it Spectre and reimagine all of the good villains (yes, even Dominic Greene) as Spectre cronies. Somehow everything had to fall in place to serve this stupid Spectre narrative. But that was not even the worst. Who in their right mind decided to write Blofeld as Bond’s half brother and have his raison d’etre to be “wah my dad loved you more so I authored all of your pain” BS?
@Louis Tea Enjoyer Yeah, :D was especially emphasized as if it was supposed to be an impressive and interesting gesture, but was so artificially hollow!
18:18 a big part of why the sequence feels off is because they keep going out of their way to break what little momentum they have. Intercutting between a high speed car chase, and the office secretary raiding the fridge in search of a midnight snack is one of the weirdest decisions that's ever been taken in a Bond action scene. Quantum of Solace takes a lot of flack, but at least the opening car chase didn't keep cutting away to M taking a dump in the safehouse while she waits for Bond to arrive.
That escape from Blofeld’s lair baffled me in the theatre. I was so confused. It was presented in such an easy perfect way that I was sure they were going to reveal it was a dream. I kept thinking of Patrick Bateman looking confused at his gun after he explodes a cop car with it. Like “how was it that easy?”
imagine if it was like Brazil (coincidentally starring Jonathan Pryce who was the villain in Tomorrow Never Dies) where Sam is rescued by Robert De Niro's character and his team and escapes and gets the girl, but it was actually all in his head, and he was successfully lobotomized.
39:22 I remember laughing at this part because they used studio pictures of the actors (in character) to put on the walls. Like these people are shadowy figures within the universe of these movies. You really think you would ever get such clear pictures of them? Not to mention that Vesper looks exactly the same as in Casino Royale (probably a cropped Casino Royale pic of Eva Green as the character). Like at best, you would have blown up (and not very flattering) driver's license or passport pics of these people.
They made a similar mistake with Quantum Of Solace by choosing the awful Keys/White song over Shirley Bassey’s song. Bassey’s song was weaved into the score. Another Way To Die was a last minute decision. It’s similar to Tomorrow Never Dies where they chose Sheryl Crows song at the last minute over KD Lang’s to profit off a flavor of the month artist at the cost of quality. I can’t truly decide which is a worse song. Another Way To Die or The Writing’s On The Wall.
Your description of the Rome car chase describes my issue with most the action in this film. All of it feels very restrained and hushed, like there are no stakes: the roads are closed off, there are no bystanders around to get caught up in the chases, it just doesn't feel realistic. It bothered me even more on the train fight: Madeline and the train staff all just disappear as Bond and Hinx tumble through the totally empty train cars. I disagree that the film is the worst in the franchise, and it wasnt as bad as I remember when I re-watched it recently, but the retconning, the lack of chemistry with Madeline, and the Austin Powers reveal do ruin the Craig era films.
Bins literally ran into a man singing in his car and it was in the dead of night of course there’s not going to be many cars also if you’re talking of realistic you can’t like any of roger moores bond then he drove a fkn gondola on the streets of Venice bind is meant to be fun and engerrated
@@BigPapaPenguin It's not about demanding realism in every movie, it's about being consistent with the established tone. Most of The Moore films set out to be campy/silly from the get-go, so the tone sets an expectation in the audience that silly things like the goofy gondola chase are expected. The Craig films' tones are all about realism and grit, so other than the one old man in his car in the Rome alley put in there as a gag, none of the action sequences feel like they're set in real, public places with a sense of danger. It instead feels like the characters are just tumbling around a closed simulation course. An example of an action scene done well on the other hand: Take the boat chase in TWINE. Bond and the Cigar Girl race along the Thames, sometimes knocking into police boats, wrecking indusstrial sites, soaking people on the streets, people jump out of the way when Bond pulls up onto land for a bit, etc. It feels like they're in a real place and that there's some danger to what they're doing.
The From Russia with love train fight was something else. An amazing sequence, maybe the best of all Bond movies. Savage, realistic, splendidly shit, unforgettable. Not like this disaster of a movie...
Hoytema has a tendency to over-stylise though. His shots generally have one general colour and often blurred backgrounds that give the feeling of sometimes looking as if there is a green screen
I’m sorry but you’ve lost me on complaining about the “fakeness” of the opening scene. It doesn’t look bad at all. You literally acknowledge that the rooftop walk was real, but still complain that it looks fake. I don’t understand what it is you are seeing that “looks fake”. Maybe you don’t enjoy the coloring? Regardless, everything in that opening scene looks fine and sells. You’re are nitpicking and complaining to an absurd degree. The story is bad, but yes let’s also attack the grips and electricians and vfx artists and stunt coordinators for doing their jobs.
i 100% agree. A lot of what this guy is saying is just flat out wrong? too much nitpicking, and i don't even like Spectre that much. focus on the story and the acting instead of shots that look fake but aren't
It's worth noting how handicapped the 'secret' meeting security was in comparison to QoS, where the organization took intense steps to obfuscate their meetings. But this organization makes the complete opposite attempts by filling a parking lot with million dollar sports cars. Lmao
I have come to learn that when a great director with a great cast and great team create a great film and then a bad one, all eyes should be looking at the studio, more often than not.
@@gkroll8467 Well, wether he was gay, bi or straight, it has no influence in the actual plot, so why does that sound like it’s such a big problem for you?
I don’t really take people seriously when they just weirdly criticise something for just “looking fake” only for them to say it wasn’t fake but still continues to criticise it like come on man.
You hit the nail on the head with this one. It ruined the Craig era. Irrevocably fucked it all in one swoop, and I have no interest in No Time to Die because of it. There’s some production problems that haven’t come to light, I’m sure. And yeah, it’s weird how fake this film looks given its DOP is no slouch. Word to producers; when a director says he doesn’t want to come back, DON’T BRING HIM BACK!!!
I remember loving the score of skyfall so much and listening to it again and again and being so excited for spectre's score.... and then they literally just copy pasted about 70% directly over from skyfall. They just reused most of the music. This entire in Mexico city where they just used the bike chase music from skyfall was the moment in the theater when I realized just how disappointing this movie was going to be. SO LAZY!!!!!
Have to agree. I was sooooo hyped for this movie coming off of Skyfall but Spectre is the only one of the Craig Bond films I’ve only seen once. Quantum and Skyfall I can sit down and watch over and over again. Spectre left me feeling so cold, and I didn’t realize how much it undercut what came before it till now
@@aristonaragao3171 Lol, its probably the Bond movie I rewatch the most at this point. Yeah the shaky cam is annoying but I really liked Craig's portrayal in that movie along with Olga
How do you make Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz boring? The guy got an Oscar for playing a villain who was deemed “unplayable”, he’s perfect for a Bond villain. Or how does Hoyte Van Hoytema, the guy who shot Interstellar and figured out how to realize Tenet on screen, give us such bland imagery? Mendes just finished Skyfall, and won Best Director for 1917 a few years later. Four people were credited as the writers, one of which was John Logan, the guy who wrote The Last Samurai, Gladiator, Hugo AND Skyfall. The team who wrote Casino Royale are here too, Purvis and Wade. Craig was considered even Oscar worthy for his first Bond and looked very invested in Skyfall, why is he so checked out? All the ingredients for a perfect Bond movie are here, something fishy is going on, smells like studio interference. .
You can tell the producers were overly excited and egotistical in a blind way after Skyfall's success. They threw everything at this film without stopping to think if any of their ideas were good. Feels way more like a film the producers wanted than what the writers and actors did. Mendes was clearly exhausted and brought down by this huge, overblown production. Skyfall was smaller and did everything correctly out of nowhere. There are aspects I love, more to like than dislike, but the bad is SO bad that it makes all the good kinda mute. Decisions made in this movie make you wonder deeply about how nobody realized how nonsensical it is. Feels more like another, bigger more corporate driven studio got the rights to Bond and wanted to make the most crowd pleasing film, blinded by thinking they know what the audience wants when they really don't.
Skyfall did everything correctly? I disagree…heavily. My reasoning is down below, I apologise for the long rant. Skyfall is a pretty bad, and sometimes distasteful film. From the messy, non-sensical plot, to the silly home alone plan that gets M killed. As well as the pretentious themes. This movie also has one of the most mean spirited, tone deaf and distasteful treatments of a character in modern film. One of the biggest issues with this movie, is the treatment of Severine. The shower scene is really brain dead given the previous scene. How the writers tackled this character demonstrates why the modern Mission Impossible films are better than Craig's bond films. If Ethan Hunt promised to save someone like Severine and keep them safe, he would stop at nothing to ensure that promise is met. If the "scotch" line is bond suppressing his emotions, it's only for like a single shot in an over 2 hour movie and his introspection is unnoticeable. And a very bizarre choice. Additionally, they dug a deeper grave for themselves by making her a victim of sex trafficking from a young age, and given what happens to her… a clear carelessness in the writing room can be seen. Compare this with the blonde girl from the beginning of Rogue Nation, and how her death drives Ethan Hunt to capture Lane. As well as, the French Police Officer from Fallout, and how that highlights Hunt's "weakness" to Lark. Both scenes are short, yet do an incredible job at characterizing the Hero. Bond doesn't feel like an active hero in this movie, until it is too late. The film also doesn’t show him having any compassion or remorse afterwards. If Hunt was placed in that position and failed, the entire movie would be based on his failure. In Skyfall they just move onto the next plot point. The film disregards victim of sex trafficking victim(from a young age) and kills her in a super distressing way with the main “hero” of the story felling next to nothing. For most of her life she was enslaved, lived in fear and in suffering and in her last moments is tortured and killed. All this character knew was pain and suffering, only to die a brutal, torturous death whilst the person she hoped with save her stands there emotionless and uncaring. This is meant to be a Bond film, not a Rob Zombie movie. They introduced a character who for her most of her life only felt pain and suffering, and was enslaved- used as a means to an end. Silva does that, and so does Bond, the main fricking character. The “hero” of the story. He promises to save her, than he seduces her, but when it comes time to act…he just watches emotionless as a person who was enslaved for most of her life is tormented, brutalised and then killed, while the person she hoped would save her just watches emotionless and shows no compassion afterwards. Furthermore, Severine's bond girl is an outstanding example of wasted potential. Having a victim of sex trafficking as a bond girl can make for really interesting storytelling in a Bond film. You have someone who is very direct in Bond against someone who is very hidden and broken due to her ill-fated past in Severine. Perhaps in this way, Bond could of seen that his usual tricks and charm may not work and that he should not use them on someone like Severine. Their could have been greats arcs for both characters. Also, the actress, Berenice Marlohe is far more interesting and charismatic than the plank of wood in Spectre. I remember watching Skyfall back in 2012, and I thought it was the Best Bond movie. But when I watched it again a few weeks ago, I wanted to bail at Severine’s death. It is so mean spirited and distasteful. In some of the other Bond movies, the Bond girl dies, however the main protagonist of the story shows some remorse and introspection. In Skyfall… It’s nothing! I find it really funny that during the NTTD virtue signaling, they didn’t bring up the Bond movie with the worst writing treatment of the Bond Girl. Maybe cause they didn’t want to upset their overlord Barbara Broccoli. Hollywood Hypocrites I guess. Coming back to M's death. Besides the contrived setup, there is also a lot of wasted potential here. Maybe instead of getting randomly shot, she sacrifices herself to save Bond, which creates a great arc, whereby at the beginning of the film, she risks her agents lives, now she gives her life to protect one of them. Additionally, the film has the stupid pretentious theme of “Old ways are better”. The old ways that M didn’t trust to finish the mission in the beginning? The old ways that put false hope in a person who was enslaved her entire life? The old ways that got the most important person of MI6 and British security killed because of a stupid plan? Bond in Skyfall is one of the worst modern movie protagonist. There’s other writing inconsistencies with Bond, like the fact that he can’t pass basic shooting and fitness tests, yet gets sent on a super dangerous mission to capture someone who destroyed MI6 HQ and killed several agents. His failing tests are also the reason he struggles in Shanghai and fails Severine, but then suddenly he can take on three henchmen(too late) Severine was had already been killed, and he was at the same tactical position before and after, and in the courtroom and Skyfall house, he has marksman accuracy ??? Also, the M/Bond arc in Quantum was M trusting bond, so why does she not in the beginning of this film? Skyfall is probably one of the most overrated pieces of modern cinema. It’s a bad, messy and a distasteful film hidden behind pretty pictures. However, so many people think it’s a great film. “One of the best Bond films”. “A pinnacle of modern action cinema”. Anyone that gives this appalling film anything over 5/10, visuals don’t make a story, writing does? Skyfall is the definition off style of substance. All show, but there’s no emotion. There’s no heroism. I apologize for my long rant. If you did read all the way through- Thank You. Maybe I’m missing something, if so please let me know.
When I first watched this movie I didn't really pay attention to the plot details much so alot of things flew over my head plus I was kinda bored by it. But even so I always felt something was wrong with this film and something made extremely weak compared to the other films and now that I pay attention to details in stories these days I now know why I felt that this movie was really bad. This movie is definitely the worse Bond film. The writing is bad and doesn't make narrative or logical sense and ruins the past writing set ups that the previous movies did. This is beyond terrible it's pathetic and incompetent. Definitely the worse and I hated what it did as a finale to the series. So many plot arcs and worldbuliding ruined for this garbage. What possessed the minds of the writers and the director to make this and compromise everything they worked for? Did they bother rethinking the terrible story they made or even regret it when the damage was done?
Sad thing is that they could have used the RADIOHEAD SPECTRE song that they did for the movie opening, but which was rejected in favour of Sam Smith...
So let me get this straight. Mr White... who was the original Blofeld for the remakes... James Bond wounds him, watches him commit suicide, and then marries his daughter? That's some real barbarian shit right there. 'I will claim your daughter as my own,' Arnold's voice.
Haha! I envy you. I wish I could turn off the critical part of my brain and just enjoy things. I tend to be very picky - one bad moment can ruin a whole movie for me, and one bad movie can ruin a whole franchise.
One idea that could've tied into the previous films is that, after the Quantum of Solace, the remaining members of Quantum went to Blofeld for help in continuing their operations. However, Blofeld, having his own ambitions beyond what Quantum wanted, basically reshaped the entire group into Spectre, resulting in long-time associates who were against him either being killed or, in the case of Mr. White, being forced to go into hiding. It's an idea that needs some fleshing out, but it's definitely better than retconning the prior three films into being planned by Blofeld all along. Or maybe, if we wanna have Mr. White be Blofeld instead, we can reveal that, after Quantum of Solace, he took control of the organization and turned it into Spectre.
Cinematography is still better than most of the Bond films. Remember that Casino Royale was the first Bond film in long time to actually invest in good cinematography. Many previous films had bad lighting and they were shot poorly.
Hoyte Van Hoytema shot this movie, allegedly. doesn't seem like it because it all looks like a pale imitation of what Roger Deakins accomplished in Spectre, but somehow cheaper and murkier and plain ugly.
A View To A Kill is actually not bad at all in my opinion. The only pure bad Bond films in my opinion are Spectre and Die Another Day. But yeah no idea why A View To A Kill gets hate. It makes it into my top 15 bond films!
You are absolutely right. I saw this at the cinema a few days after it came out. Despite the typically enthusiastic reviews, it was so obvious it was a bad, bad movie. It was devoid of joy. Cliched. Nonsensical plot. Laughable twist. Stupid vanilla filter on all shots sapping all the life out of everyone. I’ve heard the new one isn’t much better.
The green screen problem you mention about, I guess is lights error. I did similar mistake in photo shoot before. When I light up my subject in a direction that doesn't make sense with the surroundings, the background would feels like it's a green screen.
The producers wanted to grab some of that Marvel money and tried violently to combine all the previous movies together. They also wanted to please the older Bond fans who wanted more traditional Bond film, lots of gadgets, opening gunbarrel and stuff like that. Spectre has few amazing scenes like the opening, Spectre meeting, Mr.white, train fight etc. Compared to Die Another Day, Diamonds are forever, View to a Kill or Octopussy this film is still watchable if u stop before the final act :)
I liked this film more than you did. As it turns out, I slept through a lot of it. If it had not been for your hard work I would never had known this. Thank you for all your efforts.
I watch 25 of the Bond films. I think No time to Die is the worst Bond film ever. In the movie Bond is just weird, decisions and dialogue. Spectre have a boring story, yes. But at least bond is done right. Some scenes have class, it’s elegant. But I can’t said the same about NTTD. The story structure is ok. But Bond got chase by bad guys while holding his child? That’s just fucking weird.
@@samcjsattt how is bond having a child weird? Outside of the fact that he logically shouldn't be able to have children after the torture scene in Casino Royale 🤣
You know you guys know quantum of solace exist right that’s the work at villlian worst Bond girl boring and even the opening credits sucked no time to die I would understand why people thought it sucked but I was more engaged in no time to die than quantum or spectre
I wanted to watch this video, but you lost me at "the perfect trilogy of Casino Royale, QoS and Skyfall". It's not a trilogy. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but QoS flushed the Quantum (which at the time was considered the modern equivalent of Spectre) storyline down the toilet, and Skyfall is pretty much a stand-alone movie that straightened the back of the franchise. Literally the only continuation in these three movies is Judi Dench, but even the relationship between Bond and M is different in all three movies.
People the whole time if u wore a Spectre ring: ,,Ohhhhh WOW, that’s an interesting RING! IS THAT AN OCTOPUS??? HOW CUTE! WHERE DID U GET THAT? Sears???“
All the “new” bond films aren’t really bomb films. They’re trying to capture a whole new audience and forget about the audience that made bond who he is…
You nailed it mate... great analysis of this stinker.... one point if I may... To us British, as soon as Andrew Scott makes an appearance we just automatically assume he’s a villain, so zero suspense there ... its kind of the Christopher Walken thing.
I simply didn't realise how much (or why) I was disappointed by this film until I watched this ! Absolutely brilliant analysis ;) 41.30 had me in stitches ...
One thing that I need to disagree with is the net. The net is installed in buildings that are about to collapse and set for detonation to prevent people who are working inside if the ruble fell. But you were spot on with this movie. This is the worst of the Craigs movies if not the worst Bond movie. I really love Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and even No Time To Die. But this movie is just joke compared to those others. It tries to be funny does not even have challenge. Its acting is wooden, script is lazy, there is no emotion. It really is . Mr. White could have been the ultimate nemesis to Bond. Even reveal he is Blofield in the end and Spectre existed all the time and all those others were parts of it and Spectre was above it all. So White climbed the ranks to the top taking it over. But this had so many potential that went wasted. And the side stories with M, Q are poor. It could have been another wonderful movie even connecting all of them together with Mr. White being the ultimate nemesis revealing himself as Blofield as I or you said and then show the big picture that all Bond did and he sufered for helped them grow and become bigger. And in the end this time we could have ended as it ended for Bond for once having Blofield inprisoned as it became. I was really disappointed and angry when I went out of cinema back then. I get it that Craig was suffering during this movie because of his broken leg. But there is too much going on. Action scenes felt short, there was no real danger and as you said there were missing elements or elements that were not connected. They did a shity job at this one. PS: Blofeld as Bond even adopted brother was stupid. There is so much wrong with this movie.
Major Shaker, I agree with a lot but I'm not a Craig fan anyway I'm a Brosnan guy, Mr White was by far the best Spectre agent throughout Craig's tenure and he was completely underused , you're so right about Skyfall and I never understood why Bond took M there in the first place
Yeah, most of his critiques apply to 50% of bond films. Also idk why he’s so obsessed with the fact that it “ruins” other films. It only ruins other movies if you want it to
spectre is just hilarious and yes it is the denouement of series but between the comic portrayal of blofeld and art direction it is just terrific. I broke out into laughter when i realised the attempt to shatter civilisation as we know it was due to sibling rivalry I don't know how waltz kept a straight face nor any of the other world class euorpean actors. what a HOOT. loved it
For me personally, this is the best bond movie for Daniel Craig as bond. This movie follows the formula of the other bond movies and pays homage to the old movies. The first 3 movies were the origin movies of bond, on him learning important lessons, and in this he became the bond from the other movies, the 007 that we know. Every movie is subjective and I respect that you didn't like it, but for me it's a perfect modern bond in the classic formula.
1. Skyfall 2. Casino Royale 3. No Time to Die 4. Spectre 5. Quantum of Solace Spectre is a let down compared to other films in Daniel Craig's run as Bond but I still enjoy it. I think you are nitpicking way too much!
Craig really should have stopped after Skyfall. A perfect trilogy. He'd go down in the books with Dalton and Lazenby, a short run with nothing but banger films. Now he will get the credit of having 2 of the best films and 2 of the ABSOLUTE WORST films. I dont have hope for NTTD.
Why is this the worst review of a Bond film ever? Well, the first 5 minutes of the review complained endlessly about problems that weren't really problems. And then the next few minutes were complaints about more things that are not really problems. I switched off at this point because I couldn't bear the sheer pointlessness of the review anymore.
About your evaluation of Spectre....uh...no. This is one of the best bond films to come out in years. Classic big guy villain, like Jaws. Classic dark underworld boss of Spectre - the acting by Christoph Waltz was superb. No Time to Die was the worst Bond movie of all time. You remember, the one where Bond dies. And I'm sick of him falling in love with the women all the time, and pledging to "quit" being Bond so they can live happily ever after. Spectre, good. No Time to Die, bad.
I really like Casino Royal, and thought Quantum was ok, but then Skyfall was so abysmal, we almost switched it off. I called time on the franchise after that. When Spectre eventually came on the TV for free I reluctantly watched it. I didn't think it would be possible to make a bond film worse than Skyfall but they sure proved me wrong there. Utter tripe.
The guy playing C was also Moriarty in Sherlock, right? Getting typecast maybe? By the way, in real life, Ian Fleming got the idea of a secret service head whose cod name is his initial from a real world character codenamed C.
An important point: Skyfall is NOT a masterpiece. Your review is excellent. In fact, it's better than the movie :) Congratulations! Time to revindicate QoS (Quantum of Solace), Forster's and Craig hidden gem.
YES !! THANK YOU !!! Spectre for all it's bad is nowhere NEAR how godawful Skyfail is !! I thought was slightly better actually. There are no redeeming qualities whatsoever with Skyfail, Fucking Godamn 'Home Alone' ripoff, THAT'S WHAT THEY HAD ?!?! Seriously, FUCK that piece of Shit 🖕
GREAT review. I was incredibly pissed off after watching this trash, and for some reason it's comforting to know that there are people out there who felt the same way I did.
For me the worst thing will always be, the fact that they're foster brothers. It barely gets a mention and is dispensed with just as quickly. That should have been the focal point of the movie, if they were going down this route. The fact that Bond has no memory of this brother, no connection and above, he barely blinks when faced with the mother-load of all revelations. So, since he doesn't care about this. Neither do we. And that is truly unforgivable.
Plus Christoph Waltz is over rated like he was over rated for Inglorious Bastards. The only Bond film I don't own myself. Nothing happens in it that warrants a second viewing.
I think Waltz is overrated in everything but Bastards. That role was perfect for him. The fake sort of charm he offers... I don't know. I like it a lot. But as head of Specter? GTFO
This video is brilliant. Such a good critique of the movie raising very good points on the plot and character development while being hilariously funny! Shocked you haven’t got more views
This movie has its "Moments" but yes it's far far far from the quality of Casino-Quantum-Skyfall. And ruins the timeline. No Time to Die is far better for the action and writing and acting alone.
@@outlaw5015 sure the plot needs some work, but damn it's a gorgeous film with great performances and if you dont pay attention to the plot it's a great ride. In my opinion
@@zanemagers7465 I’m sorry bro, I disagree. Yes it has great visuals, but a lot of bad movies have great visuals. Writing is where it matters the most in a story, and Skyfall’s writing is appalling. I’ll leave my long rant down below if your interested in why I’m so harsh on the film Skyfall is a pretty bad, and sometimes distasteful film.
@@outlaw5015 hmm I see what you mean. Bond is lacking that emotion, I guess I let it slide because the character of Bond always seems to keep his emotions on the back burner, but he never really mentions or shows a second of care after that shot you mentioned when she's killed. Usually there's some sort of revenge aspect or a line reflecting on the guilt he's felt for her death. Also I highly agree with the death of M, it could've been done much smarter, maybe her sacrificing herself would've been a great loop all the way back to Casino and Quantum, showing her full trust and care for the 00 agents and Bond himself. Bond is strange in the movie. I've always felt that, from the shower scene to the marksman issues. I'm going to give this a rewatch Outlaw, I'll get back to you with my thoughts keeping what you said in mind, you've peaked my interest and I'm open to seeing the side of the film nobody talks enough about.
@@zanemagers7465 Im really glad and appreciative of you reading my rant. I do apologise for it being so long. Thank you so much for your time. I look forward to hearing back from you. 💪🤝
When I saw this in the theater, I was in major denial about how bad this film is until the escape from the lair, which was just so lazy in execution that I couldn't lie to myself anymore. The director had clearly lost interest in what he was doing and it showed in that poor excuse for a shootout. After that, sitting through the rest of it was a real chore. It was so mind numbingly unengaging, I was shocked that they were okay releasing the film in that state.
For god's sake, please be professional in your criticism. Just going "it sucks because it looks *expletive* bad" is not valid criticism. In the first few minutes you make a valid point about how the film makers didn't think to include how an explosion would affect a city-wide celebration, but instead of following it up with an exploration of how the missed opportunity could serve the tension/scene/story to demonstrate how the film makers could have done something deeper or more interesting, you just dismiss it as "they're lazy and dumb". It just comes off as bitter, whiney and hypocritical, because you obviously couldn't be bothered to build a substantial case to prove your point, you are just venting. Why else would you choose to disrespect one of the actors by purposely not bothering to pronounce his name properly in the same sentence that you admit he is doing a good job with what he is given?
I hated Spectre when I first saw it. But I enjoy it more and more with every rewatch. It works a lot better once you understand what the filmmakers were going for. It was an attempt to bring Craig’s Bond into a more traditional formulaic Bond film. Blending the Bourne-inspired grittiness of the first half of Craig’s run, with the sci-fi gadget-filled world of Bond’s past.
Nah, it really doesn't work better once you 'understand' it. We can tell what they're going for, we 'understand' it but it's just badly done and doesn't really work. Blofeld is a rabbit they pulled out of a hat after 3 movies to try and crowbar everything in the previous movies into this because 'it was always Spectre because Blofeld is Bond's brother' or some nonsense. Besides which, there aren't any 'sci-fi gadgets' in this movie beyond a watch with explosives in it. Skyfall already had a machine gun Aston Martin. If you're trying to say they were attempting to make Bond as stupid as the last Brosnan movie, then I guess mission accomplished but does that make it better?
@John Dalton I'd still rather watch terrible Die another day than Spectre, Skyfall and No time to die which suck on so many levels they are nearly unwatchable. Craig was ok I guess, he was no Bond but at least Casino and Quantum felt like Bond movies. Bond movies need to have certain style.
If your first thought when walking out of a movie is: where the hell did that fucking fully-working, gassed-up, tricked-out, speedboat come from in the finale? Well, your movie just tanked big time. This film fails on the page and on the screen. Bad writing, bad visuals, bad, bad, fucking bad.
Man i love that scene with the airplane, is pure classic 007 siliness, but it was a fucking sin that they didn't use 007 theme when he go through that wooden warehouse...
OMG….I agree, there were points in the film that I couldn’t even follow the holes in the dialogue. I really thought “lazy” as well. I just saw a string of classic “Bond” scenes patched together.
Saying that the filmmakers “made Mexico City look like this” when it actually looks like Iraq is like saying movies scenes in Times Square aren’t realistic because Harlem has a ghetto. I respect your opinion on the movie, but this hour-long justification of that opinion is akin to trying to convince people what their favorite color should be.
This would’ve been a better plot
Batista would have been better as Blofeld than Waltz
@@itachi-kun7736 hell no. Waltz was perfect. Just bad writing
That's a great idea!
Yup and bond and blofeld lived together?
This is exactly how I took it when I saw it. It’s a goddamn fan fiction!
Like wtf.
It's a Bond film, they are normally horse shit, be nice if someone made one that reflected some realism about the intelligence game.
"meaning that Sciarra last shook hands with THE LAST THREE Bond villains and never washed his hand? "
more meaning that Sciarra managed to conserve DNA for years on a ring... rain, dust, even just time will wreck that stuff long before Sciarra check an another hand.
L
Not only did Qs laptop deduce the hierarchy of SPECTRE, but it came with a specially developed graphic to demonstrate exactly how the tentacles work.
I never thought Silva should be counted as part of Spectre.
And he worked for MI6 too . Two paychecks
There’s no way Silva works for anybody, that guy is uncontrollable.
@@blabbermouth777 I was a big SkyFall fan, but with the recent spate of reviews on the Craig era, I can’t now shake the Dark Knight comparisons.

@@FallopiumFilms haha no problem, I died laughing a few times during this video 🤣 you’re commentary 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤣🤣🤣
No one talks about it because those three films were on a downward spiral before spectre. Skyfall was the Last Jedi of Bond films.
Mexico City is actually one of the safest parts of Mexico. Most of the violent instability exists up north in the Mexican border states.
I've edited the joke out of the video
Yeah this half-brother connection was so STUPID!

No, Quantum didn't start the nonsense cutting until the interrogation.
@@sunsetman22That actually fits surprisingly well
39:22 I remember laughing at this part because they used studio pictures of the actors (in character) to put on the walls.
The fact that the studio chose Sam Smith over Radiohead perfectly encapsulates the shittiness of this film
It was the fine shit on are chests
They made a similar mistake with Quantum Of Solace by choosing the awful Keys/White song over Shirley Bassey’s song. Bassey’s song was weaved into the score. Another Way To Die was a last minute decision. It’s similar to Tomorrow Never Dies where they chose Sheryl Crows song at the last minute over KD Lang’s to profit off a flavor of the month artist at the cost of quality. I can’t truly decide which is a worse song. Another Way To Die or The Writing’s On The Wall.
Well one shit artist over another, I think they could improve on both.
Radiohead’s song wasn’t finished in time for the film
@@Dude40001 Well gee, they made the whole film in 11 months so I can understand why

I agree. You can tell Mendes did not want to do another one.
This sums up how I feel about both this and no; time to die. Well said. Thanks

His failing tests are also the reason he struggles in Shanghai and fails Severine, but then suddenly he can take on three henchmen(too late) Severine was had already been killed, and he was at the same tactical position before and after, and in the courtroom and Skyfall house, he has marksman accuracy
???
@@outlaw5015 I couldn't agree more.
I’m glad somebody feels how I feel. I like Quantom of Solace and dislike Spectre.
Thank. YOU.
I don't understand the love for this movie. It was dreadful. And while we're on the subject: Quantum of Solace gets too much hate.
I have a video on that as well
Sad thing is that they could have used the RADIOHEAD SPECTRE song that they did for the movie opening, but which was rejected in favour of Sam Smith...
I agree with everything but the "normally built British guy". Just because Batista is gargantuan doesn't mean Craig isn't well built.
So let me get this straight. Mr White... who was the original Blofeld for the remakes... James Bond wounds him, watches him commit suicide, and then marries his daughter? That's some real barbarian shit right there. 'I will claim your daughter as my own,' Arnold's voice.
After watching a lot of “why ___ is bad” ive come to the conclusion that im a shameless bond fan boy. I will enjoy literally anything they put out 😂
Lol nothing wrong with that. More power to you.
same bro
I'm just fucking shameless bond movie lover
No no time for wokeness is the worst sweetie
Haha! I envy you. I wish I could turn off the critical part of my brain and just enjoy things. I tend to be very picky - one bad moment can ruin a whole movie for me, and one bad movie can ruin a whole franchise.
Same here brotha
I think Craig would have had Spectre from the beginning if they got the rights to it when Daniel Craig started.
I prefer the visuals of Casino Royale to sky fall, spectre, and no time to die. I like Casino Royale looks more real
This is flat out wrong.
Hoyte Van Hoytema shot this movie, allegedly. doesn't seem like it because it all looks like a pale imitation of what Roger Deakins accomplished in Spectre, but somehow cheaper and murkier and plain ugly.
Lea Seydoux always looks like she's falling asleep. Kind of symbolizes most people's experience watching this movie.
Easily, the worst Bond movie ever. People rag on A View to A Kill and Die Another Day all the time, but forget how laughably bad this movie was
A View To A Kill is actually not bad at all in my opinion. The only pure bad Bond films in my opinion are Spectre and Die Another Day. But yeah no idea why A View To A Kill gets hate. It makes it into my top 15 bond films!
To be fair to austin powers, at least them being brothers makes sense since they resemble each other
Oh I love Austin Powers so much
You are absolutely right.
Btw Spectre also really hurts no time to die.
The green screen problem you mention about, I guess is lights error. I did similar mistake in photo shoot before. When I light up my subject in a direction that doesn't make sense with the surroundings, the background would feels like it's a green screen.
They kept adding that weird brown filter in every shit and it looked ugly.
This video gives me CinemaSins vibes
Which isn't a good thing.
This one is kind of funny, the problem is he believing he's doing film criticism.
I rewatched Quantum of Solace and apart bad editing especially in the beggining, it is a solid movie. I liked Camile a lot.
and the movie was not written. should it be written properly, it would be a better movie.
❤ the gorgeous red hair woman
Quantum feels most like Casino Royale, which makes it my second favorite.
spectre is way better than Quantum
@@marklar2012 maybe you find that something is appealing to you in Spectre somehow, that's normal 😉
Mexico City does look like that 😔😔
Some photos you showed are not from where the film takes places but I get your point!
Love from Mexico 💚
Estoy de acuerdo con que la película es una caca, pero no tenía que tirarnos caca a nosotros!
quizás tu barrio de mala muerte con casaa de lamina se vea asi ca asi no es la cuidad de mexico
For Sam Mendes to go from Skyfall, to this, but then to 1917 is baffling.
agreed
Yes incredible. I find 1917 overrated though. Good, but overrated.
Skyfall sucked ass
Spectre makes me question my love of Bond. You had me rolling at the tentacle part of the movie. Completely agree with this take man.
Very well done!
I liked this film more than you did. As it turns out, I slept through a lot of it. If it had not been for your hard work I would never had known this. Thank you for all your efforts.
The film feels lifeless like Mendes heart was not in it,No Time to Die feels more lively.
For me No Time To Die was the worst. It is an excellent action film but a bad Bond movie..
Even the boring Spectre got one thing right....James Bond..
I watched this video anyway, and I loved it.
Nah. QoS is awesome. Watch it again. Alone.
They’re trying to capture a whole new audience and forget about the audience that made bond who he is…
Shooting down a moving helicopter at nighttime with a handgun at 500 meters out triggers me so much.
The worst part was that Christoph Waltz menacing as someone's favorite old uncle.
Couldn't you think of anything dumber to say?
The net is there to stop calling debris. Pretty common in construction sites
Quantum Solace is actually good its just the jumpy and shaky editing.
Shit yeah- and action packed.
It goes a gorgeous red hair woman; only thing I remember about it
@IanFromCalifornia really: it know 💄 makeup is alot better ; today
I always thought the spectre logo was a ghost, not an octopus…
In the theathre, I fell asleep during the Rome car chase, I woke up 10 minutes later and was angry that the movie was still playing.
The worst analysis of a film i've heard in a long time.
Definitely NOT the worst bond film. Far from it actually.
Yeah, most of his critiques apply to 50% of bond films. Also idk why he’s so obsessed with the fact that it “ruins” other films. It only ruins other movies if you want it to
Wrong. The worst tied with QOS, Diamonds are forever, Octopussy and a few others. Still extremely bad on all counts.
spectre is just hilarious and yes it is the denouement of series but between the comic portrayal of blofeld and art direction it is just terrific.
So glad they are others out there that think this movie blows too.
SPECTRE is a bad Bond film, but others are far worse IMO. Diamonds Are Forever and The Man With the Golden Gun are pretty horrible to watch.
1. Skyfall
2. Casino Royale
3. No Time to Die
4. Spectre
5. Quantum of Solace
Spectre is a let down compared to other films in Daniel Craig's run as Bond but I still enjoy it.
It’s far from the worst Bond movie. Remember that Quantum still exists and Die Another Day is borderline unwatchable.
I don't mind DAD
Why is this the worst review of a Bond film ever? Well, the first 5 minutes of the review complained endlessly about problems that weren't really problems. And then the next few minutes were complaints about more things that are not really problems. I switched off at this point because I couldn't bear the sheer pointlessness of the review anymore.
quantum of solace is much better movie than this
About your evaluation of Spectre....uh...no. No Time to Die, bad.
you, dumb
also I love you
Mr White is played by the great Danish actor Jesper Christensen. He is one of, if not THE best living Danish actors.
Yes, not having him and his acting talent as Blofeld left the movie “a kite, dancing in a hurricane”.
Ian R, And then NTTD comes along and just sums up the Craig era, Utter Crap
The guy playing C was also Moriarty in Sherlock, right? Getting typecast maybe? By the way, in real life, Ian Fleming got the idea of a secret service head whose cod name is his initial from a real world character codenamed C.
An important point: Skyfall is NOT a masterpiece.
Your review is excellent. In fact, it's better than the movie :) Congratulations!
Time to revindicate QoS (Quantum of Solace), Forster's and Craig hidden gem.
Disagree with the skyfall part but that’s subjective.
Have you seen my video on Quantum?
@@aaronwalden6376 Naw Skyfall's a top tier Bond film. At least the climax had weight and wasn't just Bond shooting at a goddamn helicopter.
The dark knight meets home alone.
The “finger ring” ad killed me
Luckily No Time To Die does its best to clean up some of this. Still, this film screwed the pooch so bad you just wish they would have ignored this
I couldn't agree more
With a title like that you immediately got an upvote from me
And you get a heart thing from me
Plus Christoph Waltz is over rated like he was over rated for Inglorious Bastards.
I could not believe the “you’re bluffing” line. That was the worst part of the movie for me.
This movie has its "Moments" but yes it's far far far from the quality of Casino-Quantum-Skyfall. And ruins the timeline.
No Time to Die is far better for the action and writing and acting alone.
Skyfall is an appallingly bad film.
I’ll leave my long rant down below if your interested in why I’m so harsh on the film
The comment about mexico city looking like Iraq (?) and sam smith being gay were just so unnecessary lol
It's either Diamonds are Forever or Spectre that are the worst in the series. They offer practically nothing.
I agree Spectre is weak, but it's in no way the worst Bond film. Maybe you didn't see Moonraker.
NTTD would have benefited from a better Spectre.
Check the other comments man... I know. If i could cut it out I would, but it's tied to other points that I make
I really love the idea of Mr White being Blofeld the whole time because he was watching Bond over 2 to 3 movies
