A while back we talked about how Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen had no script because it was made during the writers strike of 2007, and another blockbuster movie suffering the same fate was 2008's James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. And so in honor of Daniel Craig's era of 007 coming to an end with No Time To Die, let's travel back to a darker time in the franchise and see how Quantum of Solace suffers from the exact same problems as Revenge of the Fallen. Today in Anatomy of a Failure let's see once again why you shouldn't make a movie without writers.

James Bond 007: Quantum Of Solace (2008)
A devastating betrayal sends James Bond from Australia to Italy and South America on a mission of vengeance that pits the suave super-spy against a powerful businessman with diabolical intentions. Funnily enough, back then Quantum was slammed for having the most unimaginative villain. Turns out art was imitating life, given how Nestle and The Coca-Cola Company were doing exactly that.

Casino Royale was so bad ass. That scene where he gets poisoned while playing and then gets fixed and he comes back to the table all disheveled, pale and ready to play. Iconic.

They "wrote" this movie like a level based shooter. Give context on why we're fighting, then let us get to the fighting. Add a bit more information as a reward for that fighting. Repeat until the plot is done. It works well enough, especially if you have terrific gameplay to back it up. It's not the best way of telling a story, but if the story is simply context for the gameplay (think DOOM 2018) it works just fine. In a movie that is supposed to be about more than just action, it's nowhere near enough, especially since if the action is done as inadequately as it is in this movie.
You're correct in that good gameplay can absolutely make up for a lack of compelling story.
However, don't sell the story short, either. An otherwise great game can end up sucking _because of_ the story and its writing. The best example I can think of *to this day* is Diablo III.
That game series specifically does not have a deep story. What did they do for III? COMPLETELY FILL it with filler flavor text!! Even the main plot. Seriously, if you rush through that game, it's hard to get characters to _shut up._ The bad guy of act III _actively taunts you_ while you're mowing through his army on your way to kill him. What a poor decision.
The writing in that game is _actively detrimental_ to the experience.
That's actually a great analysis of Quantum of Solace. You're exactly right in that it really is structured unlike any other film they ever did. I think the biggest downfall is that Marc Forster was clearly either not comfortable or not good at shooting action scenes and you can tell he just let the stunt coordinators and 2nd unit just do whatever they wanted. The editing is just atrocious in thos scenes, it almost reaches Taken 3 levels of insanity

@@ashkebora7262 That's because Diablo is an RPG, where story and writing are meant to be part of the experience. But in a game like, say, Mario or Mega Man, who cares about the story? Jump on the things, get to the end, have a great time doing it. Done. That's pretty much how I feel about Bond; it's kind of always been a thinly-veiled vehicle for cool action setpieces and badass one-liners. Craig's era changed things up a bit, but that's part of why it's been so divisive.
The biggest disappointment for me is that the relationship between Bond and Vesper was done 100% well enough that a full exploration of his loss in the follow-up movie was a fantastic idea, and it's just oddly wasted. Vesper's death was the catalyst for Bond to become Bond as we know him, so if the final scene in Casino Royale was the beginning of that transformation, Quantum should have solidified it with a journey from emotionally compromised Bond to emotionally detached Bond, forgiving Vesper and himself but not forgetting. That's also why I dislike Madeline Swan in the last 2 movies, theyre trying to make her be this great love of Bond's but in doing so they neuter Bond's arc in the Craig era
Is it though ? I think the story arc of bond is absolutely amazing especially how they played it out in NTTD. How a person who once was betrayed by his true love and became cold finally becomes more vulnerable.
Well what can we say, that's what happens when you have writer's strike, the producer said the writer just droped the script took the money and left, he cleary didn't care about the quality of the script. And yes, I concur with what you say: an emotionally detached Bond, forgive but not forget and all, but after the death of M that shell broke and was more like he force himself to chose Madeline over everything else, like he wanted that happiness, that love. But hey, the movie hasn't been premiered in Mexico so I can't solidify my stand

I'm still baffled as to how a movie with a budget of more than $200 million has awful quick-cut editing that makes every action scene a jumbled nightmare.

@@oeljay I think Marc Forster is a competent drama director, but he really doesn't understand how to create compelling action scenes. You can clearly see that in Machine Gun Preacher and World War Z.
Because he wilfully didn't care enough to get the basics right. Spends $200 million to make a $30 million movie. I wonder how much they blew on that "hotel."
Goldeneye spends $60 million to make a $200 million movie. Every single dollar is on screen.
It was popular at the time and they overdid it. Whole bunch of money doesn't really affect how well someone can edit a movie
@@thedexterbros I can understand that, but I think that kind of editing can inadvertently make a movie look cheaper than it really is. It looks really incompetent in how it's all put together. When Bond's plane passes a rock structure during the plane scene, there's a mistake when the structure overlaps onto the next few frames.

One of the things I always found movies made during the writers' strike had in common was their obsession with changing the setting every single scene without coming back. In both Transformers II and Quantum they go from one location to the next compulsively and after a while I really don't care where they are or why they're doing what they're doing. In Transformers I, the house was the starting point for Sam Witwicky and then it got messed up by the robots, and in Casino Royale the same environment that could host a thrilling game of cards could also be the setting of an amazing stairwell fight. In the movies made during the writers' strike there is no emotional connection with the setting because they just keep jumping around and it becomes mind-numbing.
Honestly it seems like they kept this as they went forward into today.

Somehow, this movie have the most realistic villain motive in James Bond movies.
As dumb as Spectre is their plot is not so dissimilar to what governments are doing currently.
The plot was the same as The Winter Solider.

I liked how the villain was essentially this beta male dude. He was more of a Zuckerberg type - someone relatively young who happened to get super rich. The part where he hits himself in the foot with the axe when trying to fight Bond is hilarious.
"Appear...Screw...Die". Definitely one of the funniest character arcs ever:)

Its why I love the plot. This feels like the most realistic plot Bond would have and apparently a similar situation in South America took place to inspire idea.
I mean, Nestlé is literally doing it.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Their execution is what matters. This could have been exploited for high stakes and emotional investment. I like the criticism that if everything takes place in fancy high-class establishments, the plight of the thirsty poor is far away.
It's a bit like telling a ghost story with a cool premise in a sloppy way. "So your grandmother who died after having been mentally ill for years, she came back from the dead. It's because she was a necromancer and lost herself to a demon who now controls her. Oh no, there she is now, outside the window!" Such spooki.

You know I always wondered why the Quantum of Solace game was so good even though the movie wasn't, and now I know:
It's literally structured like a video game: Cutscene/Gameplay/Cutscene/Gameplay/etc.
That game was amazing
It still blows my mind that this seems to have gained a more positive reception over time. I am shocked every time I watch it, it feels like incoherent gibberish - admittedly quite attractive and fun gibberish.
Real life is often incoherent gibberish. At least Quantum of Solace was attractive. 🤣

@@Leechwife Aye, after Spectre, the Craig films were becoming as disappointing as a series as the Brosnan ones, but without the kitsch charm to make up for it. Still no idea what I'll make of the new one, it must be over-stuffed given how much time it's had in the editing room.
It is all gibberish. I've never watched an action movie that put me to sleep until I watched this. It's all action, and it's all boring. I'd honestly compare it to Parole Violators if you've ever seen that horrible movie.
For me ironically what makes Quantum not good, it's worst aspect, is its action. A movie can have a meh script but still work well if the action is good. But the action in Quantum is so strikingly incomprehensible.
Exactly, I noticed it recently when watching Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace back to back. The difference in filmmaking was striking, especially the editing of action scenes. There was one moment in Quantum of Solace however which surprised me during all the incomprehensible chaos [03:57]. :)
I'd say it's jarring, but never incomprehensible.

What's interesting about this film is its original screenplay ultimately became the basis for No Time to Die. Everything except the fight at the Palio and the opera house is tossed aside in favor of a shorter runtime, action sequences symbolizing the four important elements, and the Bourne crew being recruited.
It's still a good film, with this being the first Bond sequel, and the villains' plan being actually realistic and ahead of its time.
It's not a good film tho .

@@a.39886, the worst part is there are multiple versions of the ending. One where Blofeld dies, one where Spectre went to London because of a file or something, one where the base resembled thr one in You Only Live Twice (Q getting tortured and Blofeld draining Bond's blood because of a file or something).
It was only made because the rights went back to the studio, and tried to modernkze it. Liked the film, despite of those flaws.

@@funwithtropes69Spectre is 8.5 of 10 just up to the train scene then it goes downhill they didn't have any idea how to close the movie is so sad because as you say just because they got back the license to spectre they thought the movie will write itself and was a complete traincrash in the last 30 minutes
The interesting thing is that with hindsight this is the only "normal" Daniel Craig 007 adventure. The first is an origin story and the next three after Quantum are Bond is retiring/too old/done. So this is the only film with Bond on his prime.
@@Ben-pd2bx Do you like Skyfall? I know it's not Bond in his prime and it has some pretty obvious plot holes, but I've always found it enjoyable. Definitely not on the level of Casino Royale of course.
@@Ben-pd2bx I forgot about him pretending to be dead at the beginning! You're right, that could have been really interesting to explore if they'd focused on it. I more or less have the same thoughts on Skyfall overall. I absolutely loved it the first time I saw it in the theatre, but the plot contrivances only become more glaringly obvious with every rewatch. Still, I'm glad Craig had at least one other decent outing after Casino Royale.
If only Quantum of Solace was nearly as good as CR, I feel like I could somewhat overlook Craig's Bond never getting his 'prime' years shown on screen. I really feel like QoS could sort of be that 'missing' movie, if only it had been handled with more care.
Each film in Craig's era (at least the first three) seems to center around Bond going through major character changes. In Casino Royale he goes from a rookie to the Bond we know, but he's still basically new in the role. Quantum could have seen him truly become the iconic 007, before Skyfall handled his fall from grace / redemption. Spectre ruins the whole progression, but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at. Quantum could have been Bond at his prime. Of course, I would have loved more movies in between QoS and Skyfall too, but it's just frustrating because Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall could have been the ultimate Bond trilogy in my opinion.
Luckily like you said, Casino Royale will always be a masterpiece.
@@i_am_tomatosoup Skyfall, could be his prime. Again, he's not completely "washed up" more like wounded, and leaving him for dead. It's not the best premise, but it worked better than most people expected. Spectre, is whole different can of worms.
@@luchomscyfy That's fair, although I feel like they emphasize Bond's age a lot in Skyfall. I try to find positives in all the Bond movies, but Spectre is... actually I don't even want to think about Spectre.
I just rewatched Goldfinger though! Can we just forget that Spectre happened and talk about how good Goldfinger is? Connery is just too damn cool. That fight at the end with Oddjob is sooo good. Sure, it's pretty dated but that whole film is iconic.
Or let's talk about Goldeneye. Unpopular opinion: I think it's overrated - good, but overrated. Pierce Brosnan is probably my personal favorite Bond, but even Goldeneye isn't that great to me. Sorry, PB Bond fans.
Please, please let's talk about anything other than Spectre. I would rather watch Never Say Never Again on repeat than think about that movie again.
@@i_am_tomatosoup Goldfinger is awesome. Goldeneye is pretty good for me, probably my favorite in the Brosnan era. The rest are meh. Never say never again have Max Von Sidow as Blofeld, which is a must-watch.
The whole "action - info - action - info" thing just makes me think of something like video game loading screens. Like, you load up a game of Smash Bros or something and in between rounds you get lil loading tips that are like "Donkey Kong's down air and fowrard air can spike opponents."

I will add this though: one of the things that made Skyfall good was that it detached itself from Quantum. Then Spectre came and reattached it, for no good reason. So…. maybe an Anatomy of a Failure for Spectre next?

Ffs Never Say Never Again and Diamonds Are Forever are fun, absolutely fun, even if commonly pointed to being the worst. But Spectre is so soulless, the action should be exciting becuz the stunts are grande and shot well, but the story is so fucking dull, idk it just feels like it had the life sucked out of it all because they wanted to imitate the MCU with the shared universe (yes Skyfall and Quantum were continuations, but they had completely different villains and plots, the new Blofeld will always be Craig era’s greatest flaw for me). I've never watched Quontum. I've read one Bond novel (Casino Royal) and watched one film (I can't remember what it was called, it involved a metal sphere). But I'm watching this.

Quantum of Solace and Spectre both were not just bad Bond movies, they were boring.
Sure, you could say the same for a lot of Moore and Brosnan flicks but they weren't boring, some had that campy "so bad its good" charm to them

The irony is, for all of its weaknesses as a movie (and there are many), Quantum of Solace was still a far better movie than Spectre, which actually had a writer and several years of pre production. I would never call Quantum a great movie, but at least it's tonally consistent and fairly grounded if you accept the movie's logic on its own terms. Even if you hated Quantum, it's also at least a mercifully shorter ride to slog through than Spectre. How the same director can give us Skyfall, then Spectre right after is honestly a case study in itself.
Well, Skyfall isn't exactly well written either. Has quite a bit of stupidity in it. Heck, they don't even show us how the bad guy got out of his glass prison cell, because, well, he'd be dead if he tried. So it happens off camera. It does, however, have great cinematography, and as other poorly conceived movies, like The Last Jedi, show, that can go a long way.
@@Axterix13no doubt Skyfall had its own logical gaps. I still consider Casino Royale to be Craig's best Bond outing yet. Skyfall is second best simply because it's a more watchable movie than Spectre or Quantum overall, not because it's spectacular. Skyfall had some good set piece action, beautiful cinematography, and excellent performances Dame Judi Dench and Javier Bardem, But while I'd grudgingly say I like it, I also can see enough of its flaws not to give it a free pass.
Quantum of Solace could have been a good movie. Even in all of its mediocrity, you still can imagine what it could have been if it wasn't made during a writers' strike. And that's why I never hated it, even if I can readily admit it was a huge step down from Casino Royale. Spectre however, was bad by poor design, and all of its beautiful cinematics couldn't save it from being a poorly paced, scripted and designed movie.
Writing is only 30% of the film, 30% acting, and 40% execution and cut. Skyfall is great because of the execution, Spectre not so much is too overstuff and the film was boring lacking an appeal. Same shit in No Time to Die, that movie just don't have enough time, and felt like it should have been split into 2 movies.
Spectre was actually quite enjoyable and, to some extent, brilliant until you reach the final act, which killed off the movie. It's too long, too illogical, too easy, and too cheesy.

Agree , it actually reflects his recklessness in his state while being an alcoholic and torn from vesper. Seeing people die around him while still trying to proceed the mission even though he is put on hold by mi6
I like the fact that it's almost all action. Several Bond films have received criticism for essentially not being like the previous film. Then, years later, when people see them out of sequence, more people go, "I don't see what the hate was about". Both Timothy Dalton films were roundly trashed at the time, and "Dalton is not James Bond". Except, he played Bond as close to the books as he could, he looked like Bond from the books. No-one says that now because Daniel Craig exists - the concept that Bond has to be like Connery/Moore has been revised, and at least one Dalton movie features on a top ten Bond list, sometimes both.
That's not the problem with the movie. The problem is the editing, the poorly written action, the writing in general, the story telling, the supporting actors and much more. I am almost tempted to call it an objectively poor movie. I am glad you liked it though. You have questionable taste, but hey, so do I most likely.

You would think the filmmaking team would go into this with a mindset like, "Ok... the script we have is pretty weak BUT if we go all-in with the action sequences and really do something special with them, hopefully it'll make up for it." But with the exception of the car chase (which was pretty good but not great), the action was completely lackluster with nothing new or even exciting for that matter. Seriously? Falling off a building onto a car? Come on! ENOUGH with that bit already! And after that final shootout I was actually glad it just ended, loose threads and all. Considering how the big action set-piece was that boring and uninspired, it would have been painful to sit through ten to fifteen minutes more of wrap-up exposition. Plus, it's not like that would have saved the movie. I seriously doubt anyone would have reacted like, "Well, the movie was horrible but at the end when the secret water reserve is released, man, that made it all totally worth it!"
I don't want to be so negative, but you really pushed me to it. The car chase was absolutely terrible. I had no idea what was going on, there were 3 cuts every second, it made me sick watching it.
This is why writers matter. They take the characters seriously as a whole so this doesnt happen

It's really more of a sequel to Casino Royale, and a rather mediocre one at that, than a stand-alone film. Watch the two back to back and QoS makes a lot more sense than it does on it's own.

What is there you don't understand? Huh? They caught White and found out he was a part of the organization that has members everywhere around the world so they are always few steps ahead. They had a member even in MI6. This organization also manipulates with elections and regimes to gain power and valuable resources like water in this case. They basically control the world. They cooperate even with CIA to achieve their goals. MI6 find out connection to the MI6 traitor that leads to Haiti. Bond goes there, finds another member of the organization who is a geologist, kills the him and pretends to be him.... Then he finds out this organization is trying to reinstate a dictator in Bolivia to get water resources in exchange = big money. The plot is very demanding which makes it quite interesting.

Casino Royale was so good because Bond actually does some detective/investigation work of his own to uncover the terrorist plot at Miami airport. He didn't have any help from Mi6, he didn't have any resources. He just uncovered everything through his own resourcefulness and skill and then foiled the plot. The rest of Mi6 doesn't get invloved until after the attack was stopped. He was on his own.
In QoS, all the info was basically handed to him on a platter. He didn't feel like the same the character. It was just like "OK Bond. The bad guy is here. Go take care of it". They could have sent any Mi6 agent to do that. It didn't feel like Bond was putting any effort in.
I saw this recently and forgot how crazy the editing is in this. The scene at the start from where the MI6 agent shoots Mr White to when Bond shoots him hanging from the rope...it's 4 minutes and 20 seconds with about 270 cuts. It just cuts back and forth between the chase and some horse race outside for no reason, the race serves nothing to the plot or location it's just so random and weird.
No way QoS is worse than Spectre.
At least the action in Spectre was comprehensible and not full of agonizing shaky cam

I remember seeing Quantum of Solace in the theater. I was still a teenager at the time and I was a really big fan of Casino Royale. I just remember feeling, about an hour into the film, that it was just off. The pacing was all wrong, the story wasn't engaging, the villain was weak and uninteresting and the bond girl was just kind of there. I didn't know about the production problems of the film until years later. If I was the studio executive I would have just delayed it for a year and released a more satisfying project because honestly although it's kind of interesting that it's a direct follow-up to Casino Royale it has none of the charm of that film and it's just kind of a jumbled mess. Despite being the shortest Bond film it feels like the longest due to its poor pacing and convoluted script. While I don't think it's necessarily the worst Bond film per se it is still incredibly disappointing and I honestly put it in the bottom three of the entire franchise right down there with diamonds are forever and Moonraker.
I unironically really like Quantum of Solace, it's way better than Spectre.

Eh I still like Spectre over Quantum. The action may be a little underwhelming in Spectre but the action in Quantum actively frustrates me with how it is presented and most of the movie is action. I also enjoy Spectre's first third quite a bit.
I never could quite put my finger on why I didn't watch beyond QoS, but thanks to this I can say it was definitely the story structure and not just the fact that one guy in the background of the pier where Bond is in on the motorcycle is holding a broom and clearly not sweeping since he's holding it a foot off of the ground so as to not mess with the sound.

This movie is obviously no 'Casino Royale', but It's receiving way too harsh criticism. It does have a bit shaky cam and a not great, just basic plot, the villain is weak and forgettable, BUT it has a lot of fun action, all types of a chase scenes / pursuit, a clear character arc for an angry Bond, nice technology, nice sets, some really nice and funny lines, a good hand to hand combat, and the vague intrigue of a shadowy secret dangerous organization. It has resolution for the 'boyfriend' of Vesper from the first movie in a really cool scene were Bond has full control of the situation and warns the female Canadian agent and what happens to Vesper's boyfriend is the conclusion of Bond's arc in this movie being more cold and calculative instead of hot headed and extremely impulsive. I strongly believe that with all its problems is a very efficient and fun movie.

IIRC, Spectre was the one that made him want to quit. It was the final straw. The man literally fought like fuck to get out of the contract & is on record saying that "I'd rather slit my wrists than play Bond again".

10:20 In Bond's defense several off those kills were during life-and-death stakes combat. When he confronted Vesper's blackmailer he had full, premeditated control of the situation and time to plan and reflect and compose himself without having to make any quick decisions (love this video btw)

This criticism makes no sense given Spectre tore down all previous three movies. Quantum actually fits in the trilogy whereas spectre just shits on them by doing a 180.
Quantum wasn't great but at least it fit the franchise. Spectre actively pissed all over the last three movies. Such a shame because it could've been amazing.
@@precariousworlds3029 I would argue that the problem started with Skyfall rather than Spectre. While Quantum felt like a continuation of Casino, Skyfall felt like a dumbed down reboot to me. It threw away what was established in the first two films and turned Bond into a third rate Batman. We spent two movies watching him become James Bond. In the third we should have seen him fully formed, at his peak, and actually being James Bond, with the same kind of tight, intelligent, well balance script we had for Casino. We didn't need to see him become Bond again. We didn't need backstory. We didn't need cartoon villains and implausible escape plots and Home Alone. Skyfall killed the chance of a satisfying character arc, rewrote the character and universe into something else, and ruined the CraigBond franchise for me. Spectre was just a continuation of that destruction.

Agree wholeheartedly, at least there was a villain here. Spectre had no real interesting motivation for Christopher Waltz except that his dad didn’t love him like James or something. Dominique Greene looked like and acted like an annoying lil shit that was hungry for money and power and acted accordingly. I detested him and think that’s actually a great thing. Also it was a real crisis that happend in real life so cuddo’s for immortalising it because very few people know about it.

Well, according to other RUclips channels, such as _Just Write, Tyler Mowery,_ and _Hello Future Me,_ exposition on its own is not inherently bad. It's about how you convey the exposition into the narrative. A key component to making exposition not boring is the mechanics of the plot must give the characters a desire to know the necessary information. Because if the character wants to know something, so will the audience. So, bad exposition is information that NO ONE demanded to know. Another way to make exposition actually matter is how it changes the narrative and/or affects the characters. If the exposition is crucial enough that it has a long-lasting effect on the character's beliefs, it in-turn affects what a character does next and therefore propels the story forward.
I think the point of this video is the exposition in _Quantum of Solace_ is just dropped on us in-between action set-pieces that really don't move the story forward in a cohesive manner. The closest thing to a remotely good example of good exposition in _Quantum_ that I can currently think of is during the boat action scene in the beginning, when Camille is realizing Bond isn't trying to kill her and shouts _"You're not one of Greene's!",_ to which Bond asks in response _"'Greene'? Dominic Greene?"_ Because that more or less does propel the "plot" forward.

Agreed! I much prefer Quantum to any of the movies that came after it. It felt true to Casino Royale while Skyfall felt like a reboot that threw out what the first two films established and turned the character and franchise into something else.
I prefer it even to the Casino. It is quite interesting contrary to what people say. I guess big tech had to bury the movie and gave it bad reviews. After all it is about organization that manipulates with regimes, ideas, people.....

I think Spectre is Craig's worse Bond film, because they had no excuse. They had writers and an astronomical budget and a top caliber director and it was too drawn out and too meh at the end.
In UK and Ireland it's liked it's better than Skyfall which is boring.
I feel Quantum of Solace is most realistic Bond film, things always doesn't get solved special not the water issues lol, and in real life people just leave some things behind without thinking much about it.

Quantum isn’t that bad considering their working conditions… Where the movie falls short to me is not in the overall story, it’s that Casino Royale had a better flow and structure, the dialogue was WAY better and the action was much better whilst still being just as brutal. Casino is just a more elegant film than this. But Quantum isn’t terrible and it still has its place in Craig’s Bond era as a continuation of Casino Royale.

QoS should have dealt with Quantum infiltrating other intelligence agencies. They bring it up at the end but they could have done more with it. Instead we got bond stopping frog man buying water, which has what to do with vesper.
@@i3ar310 He’s fighting Quantum in that movie, the organization that blackmailed and got Vesper killed. Storywise it’s about him getting over his anger towards them and Vesper. It’s got everything to do with Vesper, but the movie just isn’t that great, despite being headed in the right direction.
Bond is an assassin, so he has to kill professionally to get the mission done. The point of Quantum of Solace is that despite Vesper's death, Bond keeps all his kills professional. M and MI6 are expecting him to be out for revenge which is why they assume that his kills were personal. By the end of the 2nd act M learns she can trust Bond to do his job and not let his emotions get in the way. Camille is the one out for revenge, not Bond.

Quantum is so frustrating for me because there’s a lot I love: the dark tone, violence, more grounded villain plot, the stunt work and when it focuses on Bond’s revenge story, it’s great but it’s ruined by a rushed script and really bad editing (whoever edited this movie should never be near a piece of media again). This movie should’ve been 30 minutes longer to develop the script and you can tell they added so many action scenes to make up for a rushed script. Still, I think people are a bit too harsh on it. I’d give it a 5. Spectre is way worse. No passion, cliché and so boring. Quantum isn’t boring at least and I can rewatch it but it was a chore getting through Spectre

@@harrysecombegroupie, can’t express how much I disagree. Skyfall is 1000 times the movie Quantum is. Skyfall has immaculate cinematography, a personal villain who’s an actual threat, I can actually see the action in Skyfall and explores M and Bond’s relationship beautifully as well as his past. It’s a really personal movie and I respect the hell out of Skyfall for that. Sure it’s a bit derivative of Batman and Home Alone but not much. I can see why some would rather have classic Bond but it was refreshing to see a personal Bond story that made him stand out compared to every other entry. Also, just saying, Quantum is a continuation of CR. CR literally ended on a cliffhanger.
Say what you want but the opening car chase is freaking brilliant. The tension, the music, the savagery... I love it!

I still get a bit faffled that that Bond just got his 00 status at the beginning of Casino Royale. So what was he doing all that time he was an agent? Getting coffee, making copies? Because he kills about 80 people in CR and QOS, which take place back to back. So did Bond just go psycho after getting his first kill or am I missing something? I know the writers wanted to spell out REBOOT but I think showing him clearly getting his first kills in CR was a huge mistake.
I’d rather watch Quantum of Solace nonstop for the next decade than ever watch Revenge of the Fallen again…

Quantum is a vastly underrated entry to Craig's arc. Much better than No Time to Die. People whine about the writer strike, but to those who pay attention, Quantum is a tale of revenge and redemption that grows on you. It shows Bond's pivotal transformation from a rage-filled killer to a mature 007. Add to that plenty of action and well-shot set pieces, you have in Quantum a very solid Bond film. I rank it behind Skyfall and Casino Royale.
In contrast, what good have the “writers” done for NTTD? A shoddy plot that's hardly remarkable when it's not paying homage to the previous films, and a shockingly generic villain that reminds me, of all things, the Brosnan era. Even the dialogues feel amateurish, and i honestly grimaced at the hamfisted ending (not what happened - but how it's told). Devoid of class, wit and nuance,, it's the absolute worst of Craig's Bond films. Which is sad because he deserves so much better for his epilogue.
