Ana de Armas...absolutely and without discussion, the best part of the movie. Her banter and chemistry with Daniel Craig was solid gold. She was smart, charming, capable, kicked more ass than Bond in her (unfortunately) one and only scene, and is (IMO) THE most gorgeous Bond girl in the history of the franchise.

This was a first movie i saw in theater after pandemic. Just sitting there with other Bond fans (young and old) and watching it on a big screen was most amazing experience.
Enjoyed the "James Bond Revisited" series and was happy to see a detailed, balanced look at the final Craig movie. I liked this movie fine: the 2h43m running time flew by and I was able to overlook plot holes and vague villains (hey, it's a James Bond movie, after all) in favour of some decent storytelling. Craig's acting here is terrific as his character has evolved from 'blunt instrument' to haunted killer to, finally, some sort of peace. Supporting characters were good and the 'Scooby gang' didn't get in the way of Bond's journey. I would have been comfortable with Madeleine and James continuing to be estranged from each other but realizing their connection would be through their daughter. At least they gave Seydoux more to do here than in SPECTRE. The locations were beautifully shot and the set pieces were exciting. This isn't Shakespeare but neither is it an empty action flick. Expectations are always high but I'd put this solidly in the middle of Craig's era. The passion that NTTD has evoked (comments below) is an indication of the resonance of the James Bond franchise. I look forward to further instalments and, of course, more thoughtful analysis from JoBlo!
I enjoyed this movie. Wasn’t crazy about it, but I still enjoyed it. I feel like everyone either loves or hates this movie. It just falls in the middle for me amongst all the Bond films. I just felt sad that he died because Craig’s Bond never really got a good life so he’s a tragic character that never got that much happiness.
Only because they ( Craig and the producers ) wanted him to die... They could have given him the happy ending/retirement/family life that he rightfully deserved instead of being lazy and kill him off just like that... Not to mention that I was so out of character for him to simply give up like that... Hell, if I had been in his place I wouldn't have given up on life, a treatment...Even if it had taken years... But anyway...I wasn't in charge of this movie, so...
While a fan of it, it wasn't that great. Considering the problems they had with the rights to spectre and blofeld, they retconned some things from the previous movies and did an admirable job and probably the best they could considering that and other issues they had during production. I personally have it ahead of quantum of solace but behind the rest of the Craig films. That considered Imo the craig bond films are easily the most consistently good to great of the bond films.
Bond did not had to die. He could have just lived without any contact with his family. Besides, Q or someone else could have made a antidote. Bond "needed to die' with the sole 'reason' of 'Bond needed to die' (for shock value)
The cinematography was my favorite part. Saw this in IMAX and it definitely deserved it. Villains.. I agree. Could of been so much better if they just wrote a better final baddie.
I actually think the movie would be better if it had been 10-15 minutes longer to give Safin more time to explain himself and his plan. They focused too much on his relationship with Madeleine, which was a bit unlogical at some points. But especially in the first scene and when Safin meets Madeleine in her London office, he's actually really good. The movie has a solid story imo, it was not too long in any way because there was really much going on, pace was good.
While there is no doubt JB will return....No amount of reasoning or explanation can justify killing off Bond Imo. He's a cinematic icon & a British institution.
Do you guys think every James Bond film is set in the same universe and Bond keeps getting younger and older and much different looking? Of course James Bond is coming back eventually lol, this was simply the end of the Craig era.
This entire"James Bond Revisited" series is probably the best thing Joblo has ever done on this channel. Every single video essay was beautifully written and performed. I couldn't wait for the next one to drop when you guys were in the middle of releasing them. Can't wait to watch this one after work tonight.
I wish most franchises are like James bond. Each film are their own story and episodic. It never forgets the kind of entertainment its supposed to be; a Spy action movie. So many other shows, games and movies like Star wars, Marvel, Destiny, and even Red vs. Blue (that went from a simple comedy show to a complicated drama); all feel the need to connect every single piece to the beginning, that it becomes exhausting after a while. No one is complaining that James Bond should go back to its roots because it has never left it. If you want cheesy one liners go see Connery or Moore. If you want grit and drama, check out Craig or Dalton.
How on earth does that screenplay deserve a 9??? The terrible cyber-eye transmitter subplot alone brings it down to at least a 7. The lack of a clear villain motivation brings it down even further. So many plotholes and lack of logic in this film. Then there was that entire Cuba scene felt like it was ripped out of a Marvel movie…
I have nothing against Ana De Armas, but she did not need to be in the movie. I remember thinking why she was there because she’s only in 1 part and is never seen or heard from again. It would make more narrative sense if Jeffrey Wright filled her part, since he came to Jamaica to explain the mission. Also, it makes his death more impactful, since he would have had more screen time
She absolutely didn't need to be there for the plot, but I also think that she did - undeniably - steal the show; to the point where her inclusion and the way that Bond interacted with her did add something to the overall experience. That fight scene is the one that I keep coming back to from this movie and her performance is up with the score as my favorite aspects. However, if this was a novel or a screenplay I probably wouldn't have remembered her character was there.
Great series, Michael. One of my favourites which JoBlo has produced. I looked forward to it every week during the original run. I loved that you based these reviews on your personal opinion of the films rather than trying to show some sort of consensus. Your passion for the project and franchise really shined through. You should be proud.

Not some gimmicky period piece that tells another generation that James Bond is nostalgic and from the past, not modern. So Bond's death can be undone (or forgotten) when there are millions like myself who will shell out money for new 007. Especially a revamped James Bond that will be, unlike the Craig era, fun!
@@tomchris60 Yes...Fun is what we all need again at this point... I mean, it got darker and darker and then they did the unthinkable by killing James Bond... Going forward it can only be on a lighter mood...
I agree on doing lower budget bond films set in the Cold War, doing Flemings books. Would be great to do them in order but that would mean casino royals is first up, which might be too soon? Mind you if they start in 2026 that’s 20 years (!!) where did the time go
my first bond film, very much loved it and went in to watch it because of ana de armas but ended up loving everyone in it. went right after to walmart and bought the daniel craig collection. really really loved them. besides this one my favorite one is skyfall. simply amazing
Fell asleep at the cinema twice during this movie. That shouldn't be something that happens with a James Bond movie. Ironic that it's called No Time To Die. "No! Mr Bond, it's the perfect time to die"
Wonderful revisit to a great movie! The individual moments are so interesting, so long as they don’t involve the villains. I was so excited during the intro when Saffin showed up only to be let down by his motivations later on. If they just added a few more lines of dialogue involving who the nanobots were targeting I think it would have gone a long way. My only other issue was when Nomi offered up the 007 title out of left field and him accepting. If he would have told her to keep the title, or if there was a more personal moment when it was offered, I think it would have helped cement the stepping away of Craig’s Bond from 007. Besides that I loved it! Again, great episode of a great series! Thank you for making these.
Anna De Armis was a real highlight in her brief role in that Cuba scene. Léa seydou was also really good in her role and Lashana Lynch too. All The ladies in it put in really good performances
I respect your opinion and I'm glad you enjoyed it. That said, I hated, hated, HATED this movie. Plodding pace. Nonsensical villain with an incomprehensible plan. A tone too fantastical for the rest of Craig's films. Lack of chemistry between Sedoux and Craig. I left the theater angry.
This has been a great series. My own thoughts on the film echo yours, largely, barring Ms. Waller-Bridge. I was in absolute fury when I saw the end of the film but now, in hindsight, I see it as more of Daniel Craig's fit of pique than anything else. And Ana De Armas absolutely stole the movie, not just because she was easy on the eye.
It makes me sad to see 'James Bond Revisited' go, I guess all good things have to come to an end :-( Gives me comfort that one day (with the next Bond) it will be back, I really enjoyed the series great job!
I've really enjoyed this series of retrospectives and feel this channel has done a wonderful job at it. No Time To Die was just as good as I hoped it would be after the mixed feelings I had over Spectre (which is only slightly better on multiple viewings). Rating the Craig era films is pretty straightforward.
Honestly my biggest issue was him dying at the end. However to call it monumental is just wrong. It is hardly monumental. The movie was okay but Casino Royale is far superior. No one is taking this as the death of the character just because the character died. The issue is that James Bond doesnt die. He doesnt need to die to put in a new Bond. He was absolutely quick to womanize, just mellowed out by the end.
The movie was a pleasant surprise, it was interesting and the characters except for Malik were great. Paloma was pure fire. One note is OHMSS theme song plays when M and Bond meet by the river and Bond returns to MI6.
Great review. I just discovered this channel, and am very impressed. I look forward to watching all of your vids, especially the ones about the Bond movies. Although Bond films, especially the older ones, can have moments that are undeniably cringe-worthy, there is something simple and powerful about the core concepts, and I agree that this film is a good example. And Craig has become an iconic Bond. (Although, truth be told, I still thing George Lazenby should have stuck around.) Finally, thanks for pointing out that Ana de Armas was also in "Knives Out." It is a tribute to her skills as a thespian that, despite having recently seen both films, I didn't recognize her as being the same person.
Now that this series with Craig’s modern take I seriously over, I would love if they mixed it up a bit and had a period piece Bond, maybe set in the 60s or 70s, I think that would be a good fresh take on the character while also paying tribute to the previous entries.
It’s kinda annoying that every villain has to have a scar or something messed up about them. It would make it more interesting to have a villain that has some sort of personality disorder that could be explored in depth and not something so obvious as a scar and a brief backstory in the film.
I'm apparently in the minority but I didn't like No Time to Die or Skyfall AT ALL, and actually prefer both Quantum and Spectre over these. But yeah, Casino Royal was clearly Craig's best. On that at least I think most agree.
@@JoBloOriginals yeah I agree with your rating for the most part maybe I'm a little Christoph Waltz and Rami Malek biased but I loved them as the villains. I feel this movie also is what Avengers Infinity War and Endgame did to Avengers Age of Ultron took a movie with a mixed to positive and negative reception and showed why what happened in that movie happened and what it was leading to
This movie was, from the very first notes of the gun barrel sequence, till the very last seconds at the end, simply amazing. Very few movies were able to capture my attention for this amount of time. Not once during this movie did I think "man this has been quite a long movie already". Lots of references but rarely over the top. Not like all the gadgets referenced in Die Another Day during the Q scene.
Saw the film one day after its release here in the UK 🇬🇧. Brilliant performances and action. And a fantastic and satisfying conclusion to Daniel Craig’s time as Bond, James Bond.
One thing that is never mentioned in reviews about this movie, there is a great shot of Bond wearing his Omega Seamaster that made me say to myself, "Hey, that's a nice watch." I think this is the only movie in the Bond franchise that was able to effectively advertise what watch Bond was wearing.
I believe Vesper calls out his watch on the train prior to them arriving for the tournament, to which he states "Omega". Could totally be wrong on this
When I saw this in the theater, I very specifically waited through the entire end credits to make absolutely sure there was a "James Bond will return" line in there.
Officially 1 year since I saw No Time to Die!!! Should’ve been released this month to coincide with Casino Royale’s 15th anniversary Had tears in my eyes by the end A fitting conclusion for Daniel Craig as James Bond I was never bored, the story revelations were consistently entertaining, fun action, a relevant storyline for our modern world, and I enjoyed how they bounced from each character to the next Although I wish Ana de Armas and Jeffrey Wright were in it more as well as Christophe Waltz But I was impressed with Rami Malek as the villain and Lashana Lynch as the first female 00 agent Lea Seydoux as Madeleine continues holding her relationship with Bond, the glue that keeps the movie grounded making Bond feel human The opening song by Billie Eilish provides the right amount of melancholy Some newer story beats might've been slightly glanced over though Still it's a bittersweet finale for this new modernized take on Ian Fleming's character Definitely worth the wait Still can't believe this is the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig Amazing they paid tribute to the past 23 films in 2 hours and 46 min; everything from the opening titles to visual cues right down to certain line exchanges Director Cary Fukunaga did a splendid job opening more possibilities for the franchise while also tying up dangling storylines Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas are the best new characters I really like Rami Malek as the villain Safin I was in tears by the time this ended and the score by Hans Zimmer added a lot of emotional weight to it Very happy I watched all these movies and picked up many similarities mainly On Her Majesty's Secret Service I'll miss Craig playing this character so much...
James got Mathis killed, drawing him back into the fray after he'd retired. So it's only symmetrical that Bond should be persuaded to come back and not survive.
I felt really weird that they re used music from on her majesty's secret service. To use a themes from previous films has never been done, and just felt out of place for me.
In my opinion it was a huge mistake to kill James Bond a symbol of survival and a masculine fantasy. So, for me is time to say "good bye" Mr. Bond and look on other direction.
James Charles Bond, Agent 007 of Military Intelligence-6. A man no longer alive. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better, than he was. Better, stronger, faster.
Going to miss this series! I hope that they're going to reboot James Bond set in the 60's, much like what IO Interactive are doing with the game. Also, I'm hoping for Jamie Dornan for the role
When you hire Hans Zimmer to compose a movie, you need to hire him from the get-go You don't hire him as a last minute addition He wouldn't be able to come up with a memorable score that fast
They did carry Judi Dench over as M from the Brosnan over to Craig despite Casino Royale being a reboot starting with Bond acquiring his 00 - so it certainly is possible they will carry over one or more of Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Ralph Fiennes. I think it's also unlikely they'll reboot with another "origin story" a la Casino Royale. I think it's more likely the next story will start with Bond in mid-career.
You should have taken Superman instead of Batman for your analogy 😜. He died 2-3 times I think in the cartoons and once in a movie for as long as I know.
I've really enjoyed every single one of your James Bond reviews, always look forward to watching them (sad that it's come to an end for now) and I have to say you've got them all spot on....especially about the Bond girls in this movie! 😍😉
It was a mistake to kill Bond. I don't agree with the "it's just like killing Batman" argument - no one has been arrogant enough to kill Batman in any movie. Craig and Barbara Broccoli do not own James Bond and it was arrogant and selfish of them to destroy him at the end. James Bond is a decades old character from books and films. A character that has been played by several actors, all of whom made the character their own in some way, but they all played the same character. When their time was up they handed the torch onto the next actor. I think killing Bond has damaged the character and the brand. This film has certainly tarnished the franchise in many people's eyes. Generally the No Time to Die was grim, overly long, repetitive and dull. I have children who love all the Bonds, except the Craig era. Personally I miss the days of James Bond adventures where there wasn't F-bombs being dropped, where Bond spent the movie in exciting locations and battling larger-than-life foes - rather than moping around about how heartbroken he is about a woman who died that he knew for a few weeks max. Let's hope they go back to Bond as entertainment, somehow I doubt it.
Just like Judi Dench started out with Craig after being with Pierce Brosnan, I think these actors and actresses can return with the new Bond. It would smooth things over for the audience that we are already familiar with them!
I was really annoyed by Lynch’s quotes in interviews, but now I just feel sympathy for her… IMO she was shafted in this film. Literally when the film came out most critics and some fans were yearning for a Paloma spin off (and I for one would love to see one)
they needed to kill off this bond because it was the first bond with sequential soap opera connections between the movies. they were not independent like all those that came before. you needed to know what happened the movie/s before... that's what made the movies so bad, even though he was one of the best bonds... opposite of OHMSS where the least liked bond was in the greatest bond movie...
This movie is basically avengers endgame but with 007 in the title. You have the "nanotech", then bond having a daughter but all for him to sacrifice his life and die, then you have safin who wants to conduct genocide. So nanotech is present Then bond = Tony Stark Safin = thanos
Two things, Daniel Craig came back to play Bond for the money They should have killed him off before filming No Time To Die Now get back to decent entertaining gadget filled, wise cracking, secret agent with an eye for the ladies
I thought it was finally a Craig “Bondish” film. A full on 007 film where the Formula is 100% there. It has it. Although Casino Royals will always be Craig’s best
I think it was originally suppose to come out November 2019. The number of years between the last James Bond movie(Specter) and No Time To Die is atleast 6 years, the last time it lasted for 6 years before another Bond film came out were A Liscence to Kill and GoldenEye. The longest period of years before another Bond film came out.
I thought this was one of the most boring, poorly written movies in a while. I don’t care if they make James Bond a girl, black, brown, etc. as long as they give us a good story!! Don’t do it just to make a statement!!
this movie somehow makes spectre a little better, basically making spectre a prologue. i also felt like Quantum of solace was an epilogue to casino royale
Great video! And an excellent review! Only point I disagree is the gadgets. I loved the fact that they brougth back the DB5 and I really liked how he killed the henchman with his EMP-Watch!
Only watched this movie fully once at the cinema. I was pretty depressed after and tried to watch it again on uhd. Couldnt get more than 30 mins in before switching it off as i just knew where it was heading.
Agreed with the ranking. Craig's Bond gave us a damn good trilogy and then 2 bonus movies that we can watch when we forget why we forget about them or want to see some more fly Tom Ford suits getting shot at.
@@spaceodds1985 Casino, Skyfall, No Time. Quantum and Specter are the bonus movies. Not officially, of course, but that's how I organize this era in my head.

Agree 100%. Would love to have seen more of her character.
I want to see a movie about her.
Paloma was what the new 007 (I cant even remember her name, lol) should've been; charming, competent, and had good chemistry with Bond.
Interesting, she was the only part of the movie I hated
Wouldn't go that far Mike 😁😄

The only real ending they could think of so Craig could leave the character for good
Clones.
Terrible ending IMO
This has been a great series. My own thoughts on the film echo yours, largely, barring Ms. Waller-Bridge. I was in absolute fury when I saw the end of the film but now, in hindsight, I see it as more of Daniel Craig's fit of pique than anything else. And Ana De Armas absolutely stole the movie, not just because she was easy on the eye.
It makes me sad to see 'James Bond Revisited' go, I guess all good things have to come to an end :-(
Gives me comfort that one day (with the next Bond) it will be back, I really enjoyed the series great job!
Thanks so much!
Agree!
LOVED this whole Revisited series. Thanks!
"Vaporized. Blown out to sea."
"A body can vaporize?"
I find Quantum of Solace to be quiet underrated. Reninds me of License to Kill.
I would love to see DANNY BOYLE directing the next movie
Gosh dang it you're so lucky you interviewed Daniel Craig and Rami Malek!!!
Super lucky dude
Good series brother. Watched every episode of James Bond revisited.
They killed felix !? I always thought they do a spinoff with him, an American james bond if you will.
The only good thing about no time to die is paloma. The bad thing about no time to die is....bond in effing love.
Could totally be wrong on this
Looks like it's time to re-watch Casino Royale then!
@@partridgestorm Never a bad thing! It’s a fantastic movie!
You have the best narrator voice on this platform. Such a fan! 👊
This was such an excellent series. Thank you.
Die another is batman and robin, and this flim is the dark knight rise .
"James Bond Re-visted . . . will return " I see what you did there
When I saw this in the theater, I very specifically waited through the entire end credits to make absolutely sure there was a "James Bond will return" line in there.
There should have been way more of Ana De Armas.
Great film. Daniel Craig's best film as James Bond since Casino Royale. The ending really made me cry.
i was literally full on blubbering bro, ngl i'm made to cry by movies quite easily these days but this was something else
@@salmonsandwich3183 How rude
Officially 1 year since I saw No Time to Die!!!
Should’ve been released this month to coincide with Casino Royale’s 15th anniversary
Had tears in my eyes by the end
A fitting conclusion for Daniel Craig as James Bond
I was never bored, the story revelations were consistently entertaining, fun action, a relevant storyline for our modern world, and I enjoyed how they bounced from each character to the next
Although I wish Ana de Armas and Jeffrey Wright were in it more as well as Christophe Waltz
But I was impressed with Rami Malek as the villain and Lashana Lynch as the first female 00 agent
Lea Seydoux as Madeleine continues holding her relationship with Bond, the glue that keeps the movie grounded making Bond feel human
The opening song by Billie Eilish provides the right amount of melancholy
Some newer story beats might've been slightly glanced over though
Still it's a bittersweet finale for this new modernized take on Ian Fleming's character
Definitely worth the wait
Still can't believe this is the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig
Amazing they paid tribute to the past 23 films in 2 hours and 46 min; everything from the opening titles to visual cues right down to certain line exchanges
Director Cary Fukunaga did a splendid job opening more possibilities for the franchise while also tying up dangling storylines
Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas are the best new characters
I really like Rami Malek as the villain Safin
I was in tears by the time this ended and the score by Hans Zimmer added a lot of emotional weight to it
Very happy I watched all these movies and picked up many similarities mainly On Her Majesty's Secret Service
I'll miss Craig playing this character so much...
@3:15 what? literally every actor to play bond except Lazenby and Craig had been auditioned and offered the role before they eventually took it.
James got Mathis killed, drawing him back into the fray after he'd retired. So it's only symmetrical that Bond should be persuaded to come back and not survive.
I felt really weird that they re used music from on her majesty's secret service. To use a themes from previous films has never been done, and just felt out of place for me.
Thanks for all the JB revisited vids! Cheers 🍻 👏🏼
I feel like they’ll come out with a Goldeneye reboot for the next JB. That movie is timeless.
First Bond death scene? Nope.
If it follows plot points from SPECTRE, that's going to be a problem for me, because I've actually _tried_ to forget it.
Thanks for making these fantastic videos!
I can't believe people still have to have it explained that because it's the death of Craig's Bond it isn't the end of the character. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
14:14 I thought there wasn't enough shooting at the end. Felt empty as a last act. (action wise.)
Going to miss this series! I hope that they're going to reboot James Bond set in the 60's, much like what IO Interactive are doing with the game.
Also, I'm hoping for Jamie Dornan for the role
Wtf. I’m hoping Richard madden is next.
For a streaming series yes, but not for the big screen.
3:40 Can't help but like the pronunciation of "pretty" there. Best part of the whole video! 🥳🥳🥳
When you hire Hans Zimmer to compose a movie, you need to hire him from the get-go
You don't hire him as a last minute addition
He wouldn't be able to come up with a memorable score that fast
I'm surprised that this reviewer liked the score. I don't remember any of the bits lol.
@@jothishprabu8it's pretty by the numbers Bond until "Final Ascent".
I'd really love to see Cillian Murphy take on the role as Bond.
Like always..Great Breakdown and Analysis..Great Series of videos
Much appreciated!
Glad you like them!
great review!
I'll never watch this movie, my brother watched it
Really hard to imagine what Bond 26 will look like
It was a mistake to kill Bond.
Its just like they just wanted to make the audience cry is that Great writing????
First time I saw Wishaw as Q there was this voice in my head "It's Moss, where is Roy and Jen"
they needed to kill off this bond because it was the first bond with sequential soap opera connections between the movies. they were not independent like all those that came before. you needed to know what happened the movie/s before... that's what made the movies so bad, even though he was one of the best bonds... opposite of OHMSS where the least liked bond was in the greatest bond movie...
The new 007 was a token gesture it's so obvious. She added nothing to the film.
This movie is basically avengers endgame but with 007 in the title.
You have the "nanotech", then bond having a daughter but all for him to sacrifice his life and die, then you have safin who wants to conduct genocide.
So nanotech is present
Then bond = Tony Stark
Safin = thanos
They rebooted with Daniel Craig and carried Judi Dench over as M. They can do the same with Ralph, Naomi, and Ben
Two things,
Daniel Craig came back to play Bond for the money
They should have killed him off before filming No Time To Die
Now get back to decent entertaining gadget filled, wise cracking, secret agent with an eye for the ladies
Money "Penny", please. Not "Punny".
Tom Holland? Who the heck brought up Tom Holland as James Bond? Why not Pee Wee Herman? It would be THAT big of a miscast.
Charlie Hunnam would bring the right blend of elegance and menace to the role of 007
Great video to a great movie
I thought it was finally a Craig “Bondish” film. A full on 007 film where the Formula is 100% there. It has it. Although Casino Royals will always be Craig’s best
I think it was originally suppose to come out November 2019. The number of years between the last James Bond movie(Specter) and No Time To Die is atleast 6 years, the last time it lasted for 6 years before another Bond film came out were A Liscence to Kill and GoldenEye. The longest period of years before another Bond film came out.
I have so little interest in this film I won’t even watch this free 20 min video.
The next Bond can only be Henry Cavill.
What was the trilogy?
@@spaceodds1985 Casino, Skyfall, No Time. Quantum and Specter are the bonus movies. Not officially, of course, but that's how I organize this era in my head.
