I saw something the other day that had me shocked, shook, and baffled… A father taking his kids through the toy aisle at Walmart, and he was more excited than his two son! Neither of them were interested or cared about anything that was on offer. They just wanted to be left alone to play video games! Dad, bought a few Transformers, probably for his own collection. Videos like this remind me that adult collectors are the target audience and yet the companies that make product can’t seem to understand that on a deeper level.
I had a great experience in a toy shop recently I'm 51 and was on my way to Dublin to visit a friend I stopped at a shopping centre outside Newry to stretch my legs and was wandering through the toy store looking at the shelves when I heard a voice ask could I help her please it was a young mother with her son and they wanted me to reach down a Jurassic Park dinosaur from a high shelf which of course I did then we had a lovely chat and I showed the young chap the Retro Red T. Rex copied from the orginal line and explained how I had the entire orginal collection!
I don't have the luxury of owning a complete, original Kenner Indiana Jones collection. I would gladly have purchased a Stan Solo Indy series (as I did his Marion) but that is sadly not a possibility. The Hasbro Retro Indiana Jones figures are imperfect, but they absolutely scratch my lifelong itch of collecting Kenner-style Indiana Jones figures, and I love that they are making characters from the later movies. While the Hasbro line could have been more carefully produced, overall I'm glad to have it and it is the only option within my spending limit.
2:17 “Stand Solo stays well out of the way of Hasbro’s’ ambitions” Man that has to be VERY hard to do, with how minuscule Hasbro’s ambition is. Trying not to get on their way would be like trying not step on an ant during a walk around the block, you would really need to put a lot of attention and constantly be looking at the floor to make sure you don’t step on such a small and pathetic thing.
I don't collect these, but it was interesting to watch. A really good video. Not sure who Stan Solo is, but they seem very talented. I would buy them over Hasbro's.
I got a stan solo dessert rat at Joefest. I'm not a big vintage fan, but this company did a good job nailing the palitoys aesthetic of old action force.
I would class myself as a semi-normie when it comes to collecting. I get figures and have a big collection but i tend to only get figures that I REALLY like (either the figure or the character). For the Star Wars retro figures Ive bought a few just to fill the gaps in my original 80s collection, and as Ive never owned them before, I wouldn't know any difference between the new ones and originals. It's a nice cheap way of getting the figures for people who don't notice the small details. But I've also bought from Stan Solo for things like Yak Face, Amanaman, and movie accurate Lando General and Boba Fett, so I do appreciate the quality he gives. It would be great if Stan Solo DID finish these Indy figures as it would ar least give people the option.
I was really hoping Hasbro would continue the hyper articulated 3.75 Indiana Jones line and bring back the cancelled items from 2008, like the German Flying Wing and the Lao Che and Night Club Indy 2 pack. They could have also reissued the SDCC lost wave of Raiders figures with a slight redeco. To quote Sallah "They have not one brain among them!"
I have bought all 3 Indy retro figures that are out so far. The Raiders Indy has issues holding the whip. I can barely only put the whip's oversized handle in the figure's left hand. I have no problem with the gun fitting in its right hand and doing the quick draw action. I can't use the right hand to hold the whip and use its arm to imitate the whip action. I appreciate Stan Solo's work on high-quality repro figures. If that Indy figure would've been available, I would've bought it first. I think he should at least sell the weapons he had for it because Hasbro didn't make them as accurate for their retro Indy. I have the Last Crusade Indy on order at this time. I had to order my Temple of Doom figure from Target online. I received 2 of them, both with their bubbles loose from the cards. I put for a return and they told me to keep the first 2 and sent me 2 replacements. They arrived with their bubbles still attached to the cards. However, there was some veining in the card backs. I do wish that they would have given the Temple of Doom Indy a satchel and whip accessory to make the figure less dull. As for the Last Crusade Indy, they should have given this one a whip accessory. I know that Stan Solo could do these figures also and far better than Hasbro has done. Unfortunately, Hasbro beat him to the draw and I suppose it wouldn't be worth the risk of Hasbro threatening legal action. Maybe he could give us new retro-style figures that Hasbro never done like Safari or Cairo showdown Belloq, Marcus Brody, Walter Donovan, Colonel Vogel, Colonel Deitrich, and German Soldiers just to mention a few.
2:15 "Awe, this talented guy is potentially undermining our ability to gouge buyers with ridiculous prices for a piece of plastic!" Is what those particular people sound like. They're mad at people like Stan Solo because he gives people who just want the damn toy an option that isn't going to bankrupt them. Not sorry, gouging scumbags.
Going by what i'm hearing here... Basically these are Chinese knock offs that you might find on places like wish or that other site that is escaping me, only they have the Hasbro stamp of approval. Outrageous.
Great video. I was excited when I heard Hasbro would be doing new figs for the Indy line in 3 3/4.....The offerings are - underwhelming - to say the least. Oh, what could have been....
Great video. I know you hate the 6-inch Indy. I don't mind him personally, minus the shit belt situation... So far I'm pretty happy with the 6-inch Indy line - especially Kazim! He's so good and comes with three great weapons from the era.
Admittedly I have the retro collection Last Crusade Indy and the only reason I have that as opposed to Stan Solo or a Kenner original is because I simply don’t have the funds for either. As someone with very limited income the retro collection isn’t so bad. Though saying that I’m unlikely to pick up any more
They corrected the hands on the Last Crusade Indy. He has wider grip hands to fit the gun and whip. I know you don't give a shit, just saying, Hasbro widened the hands. The accessories for each Indy is weird. Temple of Doom Indy is bare bones. He looks great if you give him a satchel, whip and gun. Hasbro is stupid.
If I had these Indy figures in my display case I would go with using the whip from Croc Master (gi joe 1987), as it would look way more awesome 😃- what do you think?
People generally see what they want to see, if they like a property and manufacturer/studio they'll defend bad movies and products but the truth is sometimes Hasbro, Mattel and others nail it but sometimes they drop the ball, self delusion won't magically make us happy, a bad product is a bad product. Every now and again a third party will come along and do a better job and I'm happy to buy that product, hell if I had the skills I'd make my own. As for the price, of course they're more expensive! Major companies have a large infrastructure and large production runs, the smaller guys like Stan Solo pretty much have to do everything themselves, usually inhouse, and considering how much work that takes of course they cost a bit more $40 is a bargain.
I don't buy the argument that Chris Smith won't produce the Indian Jones figure because he is afraid of Hasbro's legal team (or Disney) as they would have already come after him for the Star Wars figures. He produced the stormtrooper just as Hasbro did in the retro line and he never received a cease and desist letter. He has already come out and said it wouldn't be a money maker/ his true passion is with Star Wars and not Indiana Jones. After all those weren't produced in the UK, so perhaps no nostalgic feelings. But he is producing Action Force, so that makes sense. I would still love to see him produce the Indiana Jones more than ever after seeing Hasbro's garbage at Target. - -Detective Columbo
This is the second time I've watched this video. I don't really give a shit about Indy figures, but your videos are just that good. Anyways..... I think it's funny how you mention that the original figures were hard to find back then, because I have absolutely no memory of Indy figures at all. Honestly, I didn't even know they existed until I saw your videos about them!!😅
I guess I was lucky when I was little. My parents got me Indy, Toht, Cairo Swordsman, the Map Room playset, and the Well of the Souls. Of course my childhood toys are gone, but I did pick up a complete Kenner Indy, Marion, and a boxed open Well of the Souls. I'll pick up the Retro secondary figures that I never had. The Hasbro Retro line definitely is not the greatest quality at all, and I have passed on pretty much all of them.
the absolute ONLY reason i was excited at all about the new Indy film, was because i hoped it meant there would be a toy line and they would release some of those canceled figures from after Crystal Skull. and yeah we get retro style instead, which doesnt interest me.
Since the last time this video was uploaded I did acquire the Retro figures but replaced Indy's and Toht's weapons and Marion's skirt as the ones that came with the figures are indeed crap. Would've still much preferred Stan Solo's and I feel he should continue with his work after the hoopla with Indy 5 dies down, when Hasbro and Disney are focused on the next big cash grab. By then they won't care. Just my two cents.
Solo gets a pass on my price criteria, as does bobby valla. Reason being, they cannot afford the masssive mass production hasbro has more than enough to take a bath funding. Yet, stan and bobby are artisan level. High quality creatives who value the work, the property, and the customers and are not willing to put out garbage.
You need to talk about this again and add the clip of runt from chicken little disney 2008 saying ," sorry I'm a gutless flip flopper!" For these Hasbro's
cool analysis. I laughed at those in the 80s when comparing to my Joes, and aside from nostalgia, I don t see any reason to buy that crap now. if I was Hasbro, I d do a Joe style figure with all the classic articulations. I m going to buy very few of the 6' to mix with my legends and Joes. Donovan working with red skull and Cobra and other funny twists. I ll leave those that have 'robes' and don t move much. pick those that can do many poses. I prefer 3', but 6' is what we have, soooo... too bad! I like to be able to mix the characters, do funny stuff. I make scenes, like decos, then change them after a while. it s easy, fun, but I won t fill my apartment up to the ceiling. I see channels where their place look like a toy store, I live in a small space, I m broke, and my channel is not about figures. so it will not happen here sadly. I can witness that it s easy to fall in the trap of getting addicted to buy figures. I saw it with lego when I was in this community, and it s the same for figs. it s fun to acquire, get new stuff, like a drug... but unless you have a house, at one point, it looks a bit insane. one s living space should nt look like a bazar. it might sound far fetched, but it will affect you. it s distracting to the mind, harder to concentrate, and you ll only notice once it s cleaned up. since it s incremental, you ll only notice once it s already too busy. I ll stick to 2 lines, legends - Joes, and a few pickings. but it would nt be as easy if I lived in a house and had money... good show bro.
I'm not so sure the Hasbro 6" Indy is terrible. The whip holding peg certainly blows and the whip itself probably should be a bendy wire, but I enjoy the figure. With that said, I also bought Professor Indy figure and that one SUCKS. Very wobbly; had to heat up the right knee joint to get it to finally bend; the knee joint cuts are too low making them look deformed and liike baggy jeans; the suit looks baggy; the 'vest'/jacket gap is too pronounced connecting to the shoulders; and the bow tie is inaccurate. Although I suspect Professor Indy is meant to be an amalgamation of the films. But the execution of the suit is so off-putting it makes Indy look like he's due for a juvenile criminal court case.
Its too bad Chris can't just do a loose run of the Indy. Maybe that would not set off the lawyers since there would be no replica cardback with trademarks involved, Plus his figure is so beautifully different from Hasbro's, could not even be considered a knock-off. He already must have invested some money in the project getting it started, shame for him to have to eat that.
Man! Where do I begin!? One thing that's a head scratcher is Hasbro cancelled 5 POA figures silently before TROS film because fans weren't buying them. Only then years later to release retro figures. Not only that but they make retro figures of new characters?! Even more are the fans that gobble these retro figures up? Now as for this re-pro debate. It all boils down to people that hate re-pros are in two camps. The first is the collectors that don't want their figures devalued. The second are the collectors worrying about scammers. In both camps it all comes down to paying high prices for old toys. But that's just my thoughts.
Circling back now after Hasbro has given up on Indy again and that their offerings were garbage, i wonder if Stan Solo has any intention on releasing his Indy now.
Did you get hit with a copy rights letter :)? What happened to the original beginning? It was so hilarious!! "Top men" cut to goofy Hasbro dude with an even goofier whip toy. LOL
These were originally kenner figures, plus the fact that hasbro swallowed up alot of toy companies, transformers were originally diaclone, im not sure the team at hasbro has any care .
I had interest in this line when I learned about it....BUT THEN I SAW THE FIGURES IN PERSON! hey, indiana's face sculpt and face paint apps make him look like a flesh colored Grogu! The bubbles looked like they were falling off the card, all the figure limbs were warped and curved. The "mechanic" figure's right arm appears to be sliding out of its socket and looks like the arm is attached with a metal pin? Hasbro really sucks! They have no concept of iterative design and making improvements and THEN go into production. Several more changes to materials, sculpts, paint apps and colors and this retro line would have been good, but nope, the first product that was shit out of the factory is "good to go!"
Hasbro has learned: the money is in the pockets of the “50 year old fan boys” Lucas film was trying so hard to push away. That’s why they’re focusing on vintage rather than modern.
From some online forums, it seems Hasbro doesn't even have in-house designers/sculptors anymore. Rather, they contract out the work of designing these figures to free agents. Perhaps in the grand scheme of things this saves the company money. I do not know. What do know is the product seems to indicate the right hand of the company doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Thus, the rubbery hands and the massively oversized accessories. It would seem two separate people worked on those and they didn't adequately coordinate in the end to ensure the product came together properly. Either that or Hasbro just figured they weren't going to make much money on these so why give a damn? Just slap this crap together and call it a day. What I do fear more than anything is these sorts of videos might draw Hasbro's ire onto Stan Solo. Since he is obviously producing much better product, Hasbro might start considering him a danger to their business model. I don't want that! I mean, I realize the truth must be told but Hasbro might be jealous and vengeful. Their legal department undoubtedly dwarfs Stan's. Just as an after thought! I don't know if anyone is familiar with the Fro Knows Photo channel. He will do camera product reviews and part of his comedic gimmick is doing the 'sniff test' on camera gear. Just getting that fresh new camera gear wiff! Anyway, Kenner figures always had that interesting plasicy scent. Hasbro G.I.Joe figures smelled differently. Probably different carcinogen formulations. I don't know why, but as a child I was always intrigued by the sent of the Kenner Star Wars figures and I wonder, what do Stan Solo's figures smell like? Please do a sniff test; inquiring minds want to know!
I actually really like your idea of Hasbro reusing the 2008 line's tooling, but maybe giving them improved headsculpts (since those were, imo, far and away the worst part about the 2008 line. Eugh).
Imo companies should (almost) ALWAYS make extras of the main characters & the main lineup in their screen accurate costumes should continue to be made through till the end of the line. W/o the main characters the rest of the line are usually useless & unappealing.
Boy those Hasbro figures are disgraceful…it wouldn’t have been that hard to get it right if they actually gave a damn - they really think any trash will do in the same manner as bootleg companies. Perhaps for 5 year old kids but we all know it’s adults who want these, as kids don’t care about the franchise. What a shame! Hasbro is badly managed as if they stopped to make quality products they would get love and support from their customer base…instead it’s a company with shady used car sales men mentality.
I enjoy your videos. I generally don’t comment. I’m not a collector by any stretch of the imagination. I buy a 3 3/4 here and there if I like it. I’ve never been able to buy a Stan Solo. Just can’t swing it. But, I can swing some of the Super 7 figures. Some of them are great. They look good. The plastic is good. The design is good. Others… not do much. But I absolutely hate the Hasbro retro figures. They are spindly, misshapen, and look terrible. I do like Stan’s stuff.
I don’t get why people go OUT of their way to defend Hasbro , but then go and attack others, knowing that this company continues to skip out on Quality and integrity.
Yeah I agree. Hasbro’s Indy looks like a total piece of garbage now that I actually look at it. Hasbro really doesn’t care about their customers. All they care about is making a profit. They just keep making garbage products knowing that the HasBro’s will eat it all up!

I see channels where their place look like a toy store,
I live in a small space, I m broke, and my channel is not about figures.
so it will not happen here sadly.
Maybe Chris will do it now after the big Hasbro failure.
The Hasbro Indy face sculpt makes him look like Eddie Munster
Lol it does
I'm not so sure the Hasbro 6" Indy is terrible.
But the execution of the suit is so off-putting it makes Indy look like he's due for a juvenile criminal court case.
hey wait...🤔....that looks like Beastman's whip.
🤣
Its too bad Chris can't just do a loose run of the Indy. Maybe that would not set off the lawyers since there would be no replica cardback with trademarks involved, Plus his figure is so beautifully different from Hasbro's, could not even be considered a knock-off. He already must have invested some money in the project getting it started, shame for him to have to eat that.
I don’t think Stan Solo would even get a visit from Hasbro’s legal team. They’d probably just sick the Pinkerton’s at him lol
it's sad, Stan Solo had to stop, they would have had the Pinkertons sent after them for making quality Retro's.
First! Wait do people still do that ?
Is STAN SOLO a small toycompany or is it one guy doing this amazing stuff?
7:13 that head isn't even custom. It looks like it's supposed to be an Asian person not Indy.
Whats with the loin cloth? His back side looks like a G string.
The average Hasbro has zero neurons connecting.
Raiders. Of. The. Lost. lady the Stan. Solo. Version
"RUclips Bot, I'm starting to think you're the true mastermind behind the internet. Who needs originality when we have your comments?"
And still none a word on this poor monkey… 😄
Stan should release it tho. The retro collection is shit.
I actually really like your idea of Hasbro reusing the 2008 line's tooling, but maybe giving them improved headsculpts (since those were, imo, far and away the worst part about the 2008 line. Eugh).
If only Stan Solo do M.A.S.K. or Super Powers...
I would say Amateurs but they actually get paid and make a living from it !! LOL
It wouldn’t surprise me if Hasbro only decided to make their shitty Indiana Jones retro figures to stop Stan Solo from being able to release his.
This sucks! But Stan Solo is the best!
Why does the Hasbro Marion have line backer shoulders? Their retro figures are bad. The corporation hassed us, bro.
Hasbro is garbage
could swear i've seen this video before. is this a re-post?
