    When the film company went to Aston Martin and told them about all the gadgets they wanted, they didn't tell them that the bulletproof screen didn't have to stop real bullets, so AM really did make them a bulletproof screen and had to beef up the suspension to carry the extra weight.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад +1

      Oh wow! I'd heard that the reproduction DB5s Aston have made recently have fully bulletproof shields but made from kevlar composite which is probably a lot lighter than 1960s tech was.

    Next, build the Monogram `64 1-24 th .scale Mustang convertible, paint it white with a red interior, red top down boot, and you got the two cars from that great scene in 'Goldfinger'. Is there a `37 Rolls Royce Phantom lll available in this scale?

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  9 месяцев назад +1

      They would make a cool pair and I've not made a Mustang since before I had my channel...

    • @jtbjr58
      @jtbjr58 7 месяцев назад +1

      Doing exactly that, 1/24 scale. White is "Wimbledon White" which I can recreate.

    A lot of neat detail touches on this model and it would be good to see it come out as a standard DB5. Just to be different I'd put it in red or British Racing Green.

    If I may ask a question....are there both decals AND stickers for around the car, or does that only apply for the numberplates?

    • @TheDc007fan
      @TheDc007fan 11 месяцев назад

      Another question....do I HAVE to paint the body or will it look alright without it, as I'm not too good at painting models.

    • @BOABModels

      It's a full selection. You can see both sheets on the unboxing video here ruclips.net/video/iegaVuSNb8E/видео.htmlsi=K7-Qxq5Eja8t4EWl

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад

      @TheDc007fan it's moulded in coloured plastic so you could get away with leaving it unpainted, definitely. Have a look at the unboxing video as all the parts are in their unfinished state there.

    There were two different Aston Martin DB5's used in Goldfinger. One with the gadgets and one that was just stock.
    If you watch the film carefully, only the 'gadget' car has the orange reflectors on the side. This (and the dent in the non-gadget car) is the easiest way to distinguish between the two cars.
    So, for accuracy, this build should have kept the orange stickers.
    (Points for Revell to know this and include the orange reflectors. Previously, only the Danbury Mint car had these reflectors.)

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  2 месяца назад

      You're right and I would have included the side markers but I felt the decals didn't look realistic enough. The gadget car was the original DB5 prototype, based on a DB4, and was previously red.

    Or you can find the Monogram 1/24 Aston Martin DB-4 and "borrow" some pieces to complete your car.
    FYI, USCP makes the open grille and very good rendition of the DB-5 wire wheels and Pirelli tyres.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  6 месяцев назад

      Haha thanks.
      Yeah, I know about the USCP stuff which does look good but I made this kit before those were designed.

    Very nice assembly and video, looks gorgeous. Ill probably wait for the full blown detailed glue kit if anyone ever makes it. I believe Airfix did issue one a long time ago.😊

      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад +1

      Many thanks, David. Unfortunately it seems unlikely that Airfix will reissue any 1/24 cars. Their 1/43 DB5 looks nice but many people won't go that small.

    Great job on the build. I really like this kit and I'm looking forward to getting on as well. Good choice for the body color and nice work on the grill. I agree, that is one part that could have used a better design. Thanks for sharing, have a great week.

    Looks promising. Regarding aftermarket parts our Ukrainian friend from USCP announced that he is releasing wheels for this kit. I really hope Revell will come up with a standard version of this kit w more detail ie engine and such.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I have seen those USCP wheels and they look much better. I imagine they will do a grille next.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, I'd been thinking about how to make the No Time to Die version. It needs a standard front bumper too

    • @justinplayfair4638
      @justinplayfair4638 11 месяцев назад

      And perhaps a set of road spikes...the original Airfix kit came with those! A shame Airfix can't re-releases a retooled reopop as the original was a full detail engine and undercarriage kit. I would imagine Revell's license would deter Airfix from their own 1/24 kit...

    • @TheDc007fan
      @TheDc007fan 11 месяцев назад

      It's rather odd...in the pretty shots at the end I felt that the car looked like the NTTD version with the Goldfinger bumper slapped on. The shot I thought of in particular was after Bond avoids the sheep by doing a one eighty. I'd definitely love this set....but I'm no good at model making, even though I critique model cars when collecting.

    Instead of flocking, try embossing powder over PVA glue-you can paint it any color, and it really looks like cut pile carpet

  • @yashin19
    @yashin19 11 месяцев назад +1

    I find a heavy brushed coat of enamel matt paint in a similar colour to the carpet works great as an adhesive for the flocking powder. It levels nicely, stays sticky long enough and dries matt.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад

      I've seen people do that on other videos but I don't actually have any enamel paint. Maybe I should get some for jobs like that. Thanks

  • @masudashizue777
    @masudashizue777 11 месяцев назад

    Those wire wheels look very convincing. Now, I wonder if in the real DB5 whether there was a tire-shredder in the front. In the film, I thought I saw just the rear shredder.

    • @BOABModels
      @BOABModels  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah, when I looked back at the film, I'm sure Bond only deployed the rear left. The car may have been designed with 4 though.

    Nice work, it looks really good! It's a pity about the grille but I think your matte shading improves it a lot. It would have been nice to get a photoetch one at this price point like with the Tamiya Lotus reissues.

    Looks like a big improvement over the 60’s Aurora kit which had spring loaded ejection seat, a fun feature as a kid now not so much. The final result looks great. As you’ve stated someone will probably make a photo etched grill an accessories. Happy to see the kit and your fine review! Thanks

    • @BOABModels
