Growing up in Vancouver BC during the 70's I recall drooling over one of these 007 DB5 Aston Martins outside Frank Bakers Restaurant on the North Shore. Publicity Car 1 (chassis number DB5/2017/R): This car was one of two built for Eon Productions at the staggering cost of $62,000 each when an original DB5 cost $11,250. Eon sold it and its twin, DB5/2008/R, to Anthony Bamford in 1969. Mr. Bamford purchased both cars for $3,750 -- what a steal! One year later, a friend of his, Sandy Luscombe-Whyte, asked Mr. Bamford to sell him one of the cars. Mr. Luscombe-Whyte traded a 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO in a straight swap for the DB5. Mr. Bamford still has the Ferrari -- it has to be worth about $10 million. After four months of having fun with the DB5, Mr. Luscombe-Whyte advertised it in the Times newspaper in London. Frank Baker of Vancouver made him an offer he could not refuse: $21,600 and an all-expenses-paid trip on the QE2 to New York. The car spent the next 13 years on display outside Mr. Baker's Attic Restaurant in West Vancouver. Mr. Baker fell upon hard times in the early '80s and sold the car to Alf Spence. Mr. Spence sold it to a consortium headed by Ernest Hartz of San Francisco. The DB5 was offered for sale; they were hoping to get $165,000 but received a high bid of $80,000.
When I was 7 years old my dad used to drop me off to school in an E-Type but there was a guy in the class who was the only Roman Catholic in the school and his dad turned up one day in a DB5 in the Bond colour. Being 7 I asked him about the machine guns and ejector seat etc and he played along with it with a dead straight face. When I got home I rushed to my mother and told her that when I grew up I was going to become a Roman Catholic, astonished she asked why? I replied 'because when you are a Roman Catholic you get a DB5 just like James Bond's!
didn't know anyone could still remanufacture a car that way anymore, thought it was a lost art. nice to see some still can, beautiful car. a hand made car tends to be a work of art, something that's lost here in the states.
I had the Corgi car version of this as a kid in the 70s! It was made of metal and did it all: machine guns popped out...slasher tires... bullet proof shield in back...rotating license plate...and the coup de grace-- the roof popped open and the passenger ejected! I loved that toy. It's got to be in a box somewhere.
This car is absolutely stunning, amazing, and a dream! As a mega-fan of the James Bond franchise and certified car nut, this is the melding of my two greatest passions in film and auto. I do find it disappointing that they didn't drive this on the open public streets and instead were on an empty backlot.
Lol, that is "hilarious"
So what, if you're a Methodist you may ...... drive a Rambler American !??
I used to have one of those back in the sixties .... It was only about four inches long, but the ejector seat was in full working order.
This was really quite enjoyable. Even without the getting through the gears!
Tha dashboard is a piece of art. Beautiful car.
The most beautiful car ever made in my opinion
That and the dino.
All of the most beautiful cars ever made were designed/built by the Italians. Carrozzeria Touring did a spectacular job on this one.

Because Italian coach builders looked to the female body for inspiration. Thats amore.
Such a handsome car. You can't tell me such a body style would not sell today.
I watch this and think, it's good to be Jay.
Jay gets to play with all best toys. Wonderful.
This is amazing, great job Aston Martin.
absolute work of art
didn't know anyone could still remanufacture a car that way anymore, thought it was a lost art. nice to see some still can, beautiful car. a hand made car tends to be a work of art, something that's lost here in the states.
Jay Leno and a DB5. Gotta see this.
20:45 "...and it's also got a smoke-screen, right?" [car starts trailing dense, white smoke] "Wow! It's like every other British car, now..."
lol.
Not a roller!!! The others have a touch of blue in the smoke to
🤣
I nearly fell off my chair. :-D
Our cars might be a little unreliable but you americans definitely know about class when making a car 😂
Pretty Awesome, thanks for sharing this with us Jay. Pretty classy, all three of you.
This car is such a beautiful work of art!! Amazing!!
This car is absolutely stunning, amazing, and a dream! As a mega-fan of the James Bond franchise and certified car nut, this is the melding of my two greatest passions in film and auto. I do find it disappointing that they didn't drive this on the open public streets and instead were on an empty backlot. Can you imagine the reaction of people seeing this on the streets while the gadgets were being used?!?! LOL!
