20:52 "Let's deploy the smokescreen "It's like every other British car now"
Jay's sense of humor worth every dollar he's made.
Yeah, that was a good one.
Land Rover piece-of-crap comes to mind!
Agreed
😂
Lmao
My ‘79 MGB lays down an oil slick to trip up bad guys…..or whom ever is behind me. 🤣😎
"You just don't want to eject your passengers".
Jay: "Maybe you don't!". Pure gold!
Instead of an ejection seat, its probably the ejaculation button. Squirts goo in your face!!
Shows you why Jay Leno is Jay Leno and was able to command the salary that he did.
I note the roof hatch is mostly on the side this is suspect.
SIDE
"Oh, go ahead, eject me…see if I care!"
I like that the rep said "I don't know" when he didn't and didn't try to guestimate. A rep that you can trust with the truth goes a long way.
Yeah, I noticed and appreciated that too! Hard to find folks like that.
I find it pretty sus that he didn't actually know.
Not that a person who really was considering a purchase, would be put off by the company rep not knowing a basic spec of the car. 🙄
@@AsinineComment I know what you mean but it´s a handbuild car so they have to weigh it in the end. I guess the exact value is just not that important to be written everywhere so the rep does not really know
Shouldn't the non-Bond edition weight almost exactly the same as the original DB5?
@@AsinineComment so youd rather just be lied too instead, alright
Smoke comes out, and Jay says oh it’s like any other British car. Hilarious 😂
As a Brit, not offended😎
That had me laughing unstoppably...
🤦🏼♂️ That guy: who quotes - or misquotes - the line we all heard in the video. 😐
Of course, then there's the replies from those who have to tell us that they found the funny line, funny. 😶🤷🏼♂️

"The Aston Martin is like a Jag that went to Oxford."
Well said, Jay!
That was well put. I used to say that Jags were for nouveau riche, Aston owners had family money...but Jay's way is simpler and cleaner. And doesn't require anyone to understand even minimal French. 😀
@@aussiebloke609 Jag is also a bank robbers' car, AM will be driven by someone at the head of a crime syndicate.
It's only the 353,564th time he's said it.
This comparison doesn't hold up, Oxford's a complete dump.
@@subarnosinha8042 in Bond films the bad guys almost always drives a Jag lmao
As an Englishman nothing makes me proud than seeing the DB5 make an appearance.
"Do you expect me to talk?" "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to BUY!" Great video of a legendary car!
BUY👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻nice one.
Great reference !!
Please return it in working order!
Saw the DB5 at the 64NY WORLd’s fair.
@@edwardhotchkiss9085 Super Great for you. Wish I could have been there :-)
I love the DB5, probably one of the most beautiful cars ever!
I prefer the looks of the DB4. 👌👌👌👌
And one of the most uncomfortable cars to drive long distance. Dad owned one back in the early 80s for a few months.
Beautiful, bad to drive.
@@garyhaber333 probably why Bond always finds a way to wreck it lol
If I wasn't a fan before, I am now. The time, dedication and effort Aston Martin put in to continuing this piece of their heritage is amazing and applauded.
I agree Phillip.
There are videos on RUclips that show you exactly what Aston Martin did in making these cars, and it's unbelievable hand made is often over used, but in their case its exactly true!
Shame they became so lazy in the past decade or so
@@flipadavis p
Thank you for articulating my sentiment exactly(R something like that).., well done, ...well done indeed.
Stunning. Bravo to Aston Martin for recreating this.
As is the case with Jaguar and the E-Type, Aston Martin will never escape the legacy of this car and that is *absolutely* fine. I'm glad to see they're embracing how iconic it is.
The craftsmanship is simply amazing. The fact it is truly handbuilt and amount of time to construct each is jawdropping. Some consider this folly, but it gives work to old craftsman and incentive to continue this work, while also creating additional stock of parts. I went into this out of curiousity about how and why Aston-Martin did this, and honestly (as if it makes any difference), I approve!
With the "battering rams" out, they should name the car, "Pushy Galore".
Isn't that how Sean Connery pronounced it anyway?
Roflmao best comment award!
@@Weissman111 yesh it ish
@@Weissman111 Do you think?
That was REALLY funny!
I noticed they only drove this one on closed streets....no highway cruise in the $3.5 Million car. Still, so glad to see this...the DB5 has always been one of my favorite cars.
Love how Jay is so casual with his hands, leaning on a $3.5 million dollar car or arm out the window gripping the roof, like he’s checking out the neighbor’s new Pontiac project car!
LOL ...
I was thinking the same thing.
I wouldn't dare touch the paint never mind lean on the car.
Hey, he has 20 million MacLaren F1! So I guess he is used to it!
Hey, he has 20 million MacLaren F1! So I guess he is used to it!
British license plates huge and ugly
He can afford it, it's probably spare change to him
I was a school boy in London in the late sixties, and used to walk home past an exact model of this dB5 every day, parked in the street. Maybe the most beautiful car ever made.
What a car, and how cool of Aston Martin to make it. A hand made new car as well. Can’t give this enough thumbs up 👍
Cars will never, ever be this beautiful again. Safety stuff, plastics, etc., prohibits this. Thanks, Jay!
You're right! ABS makes it uglier... what?
I'm 12 years old again, what a fun toy! Must be the most expensive toy in the world 🤣
Thanks again Jay for taking me along for the ride!!
Nothing like going home. What is your 12 year old dream car?
This toy is expensive... But try planes and yachts )))
And I’m 22 years old again.
Always loved the look of the DB5 and still do still looks great today
I have such a deep love for Aston Martin. They are beautiful cars, and a stand out amongst the pack.
This was probably 'the car' that started my passion for cars when I was a kid in the 60's. It was, and is a work of art. Even the exhaust note is beautiful.
One of the best looking cars ever.
Wow, what a car! I remember the movie "Goldfinger" so well even though I saw it for the first time when it was just released at a theater in 1965. (If you're wondering HOW that long ago, I just turned 69!) I was just a kid but it made an impression on me. I've seen bits and pieces of it since played on TV. Incidentally, I caught the right headlight assembly on what is probably a '58-60 Imperial in the right background at about 1:32 to 1:35. My uncle had a bright new '57 . One can tell the '57's b/c it was the last year in which automakers used a single headlight on each side. He had a '57. I almost ran down the battery playing with the electric windows! I was fascinated with electric windows. We have home movies of the car when my aunt and uncle were driving up to my grandmother's house. My uncle Johnny was so proud of that car.
My favourite car of all time, guy at the end of our road had two of these back in the 70s in London.I helped him wash them and at the same time had the corgi 007 car and watched Goldfinger and the Italian job.If I was super rich this car would be top of my list.

I love that Aston Martin kept their sense of humor with adding the gadgets. What a beautiful car. Considering the effort, while not cheap, it's worth every penny, imo.
This is one of the coolest reproduction cars I've ever seen! The DB5 is a beauty😍
The Aston Martin DB5 sure has to be one of the prettiest car of all time- Jay sure is right about that!
This IS and will remain my favorite Jay Leno's Garage episode ever. Awesome! What never fails to amaze me is Jay putting his arm out on the window. So casual in a 3.7 million dollar car.
You are talking about a guy who dallied his McLaren F1 for years, and still regularly drives it now that it’s worth 25 million or so. Not such a big deal, in that context!
OMG .. the interior is as gorgeous as the exterior which is as gorgeous as the engine. What a beautiful thing.
One Sunday evening, around sunset, me and my Miata cruised alongside this same guy and this car up the Ventura Freeway towards Santa Barbara. Just us, no traffic, enjoying the same sunset. It was a classic. moment
I live in Santa Barbara and the drive you’re describing is one of the greatest of all time, glad you got to experience it.

These old British cars are just so beautiful

I nearly fell off my chair. :-D
Our cars might be a little unreliable but you americans definitely know about class when making a car 😂
I had no idea that Aston Martin did this. This is awesome. Unlike other so called reissues by other companies, they have done it right and knocked it out of the park! Excellent video by Jay Leno's Garage also.
When I was 7 years old my dad used to drop me off to school in an E-Type but there was a guy in the class who was the only Roman Catholic in the school and his dad turned up one day in a DB5 in the Bond colour. Being 7 I asked him about the machine guns and ejector seat etc and he played along with it with a dead straight face. When I got home I rushed to my mother and told her that when I grew up I was going to become a Roman Catholic, astonished she asked why? I replied 'because when you are a Roman Catholic you get a DB5 just like James Bond's!
Lol, that is "hilarious"
So what, if you're a Methodist you may ...... drive a Rambler American !??
One of the most beautiful cars ever made.
British icon. Love Aston Martin, this is fantastic!!! Well done to all those involved.
Seen a few folks demo/drive the "Goldfunger" DB5s. Nobody makes it as fun and as interesting as Jay.
what lottery dreams are made of
this guy knows his stuff, as you would hope! some amazing details about the build and attention to detail
Not many cars give me goosebumps, this is one.
OMG... Amazing car, amazing dedication, amazing history, amazing guy, and Jay Leno and his second to none motion picture production, no traffic, no wind noise, no shadows, just an absolutely fantastic video and a fantastic piece of history, thank you Jay, thank you Aston Martin.
This is truly art.
Perfect toy for grown boy, i can't afford one, but i still like it exists) Thanks for sharing with us.
This is the first car I ever had daydreams of owning some day. I´m going to keep on dreaming. This car is just amazing.
Okay, this is the best video he’s ever done within the past 2-4 years
I agree Brenden!
No. Not really.

@@joshuagibson2520 I disagree respectfully, but I’m heavily biased because 007 is my MCU
absolute work of art
One of my favorite 1/43 Corgi cars when I was a kid. I have the original with the box in mint condition. Complete with working ejection seat, passenger, rear bullet shield, bumper battering ram and machine guns. Jay, I see the roof cutout on the passenger seat for the ejection seat. Decorative only? The Corgi actually works!
I remember those ...
My uncle had a 1/14th (IIRC) scale remote control 007 DB5 ... I wish to heaven I could remember who manufactured it. As a kid I though to myself, "If he hangs onto this it will be worth a heckuva lot some day". Sadly, I think it disappeared along with many other cool items he owned as he moved around in his early adult years.
OMG! This is absolutely STUNNING! In my mind, as a lifelong Bond fan, this car is priceless! If I had the money, i'd buy 2! Absolutely fantastic. From one Jay to another, thank you Jay for bringing this to us!
Live ten minute drive from the Aston works where these cars were made, occasionally see an older Aston being taken for a test drive, usually along the dual carriage byepass towards Olney, a nice long straight road!!
The attention to detail is exquisite, even the panel gaps and shut lines are perfect, the originals never were. Authentic rocker switches and piano hinge on the arm rest, just like the original, just incredible ! 👍👍👏👏
I love the DB4 and DB5", the Bond version is on another level. Thank you Jay!
The Bond car was actually a modified DB 4. Your welcome
All I can say is.............Very Cool! Especially for the '64-'65 owners that can now buy, not N.O.S. but BRAND NEW parts!
Love it. It's not "Q" department though, it's Q branch!
Thanks for the chance to experience this cool dream recreation car! Jay made me laugh out loud when he turned the smokescreen on and said "It is like every other British car now".😂
What an incredible car. A moving piece of Art
The guest is such a gentleman, good manors, honest!!
I'm glad this exists and we're able to see this wildly cool car.
Well done Aston! I love how they are keeping the skills and supply chains alive to be able to make something like this. A true piece of art!! Price is irrelevant as I couldn’t afford it even if it were 5,000. Instead I can simply admire 🤩
When I was 10 living in West Vancouver a few blocks from my house a restaurant called Frank Baker's the Attic displayed one of the original DB5 prototypes outside in glass display case. My friends and I were down there often smudging the glass with our dirty hand prints ogling that car. That was the car that made me automotive nut and a life long Bond Fan...Thx for the memories Jay
Ian, that was the Goldfinger movie car.
I saw one parked behind a mansion gate in Point Grey in the late 2000s. I was in high school and mowing lawns. It had an Ontario vanity plate with a Bond reference. Still the greatest car I've ever seen in Canada.
One of the most iconic car movies of all time
I loved that car , it has the ultimate coolness factor.
Truly a piece of art!
it’s a classic . truly a piece of art
Its also wrong brand. The book James Bond used Bentley. OG film production could not get it hence Aston Martin. So the guy lies here about book facts
@@hagestad in Goldfinger Fleming describes the car thus "The car was from the pool. Bond had been offered the Aston Martin or a Jaguar 3.4. He had taken the DB III. Either of the cars would have suited his cover - well-to-do, rather adventurous young man with a taste for the good, fast things of life. But the DB III had the advantage of an up-to-date triptyque, an inconspicuous colour - battleship grey - and certain extras which might or might not come in handy. These included switches to alter the type and colour of Bond's front and rear lights if he was following or being followed at night, reinforced steel bumpers, fore and aft, in case he needed to ram, a long-barreled Colt .45 in a trick compartment under the driver's seat, a radio pick-up tuned to receive an apparatus called the Homer, and plenty of concealed space that would fox most Customs men."[1]
This…..was one of the most entertaining, funny, and nostalgic episode in automotive “journalism” 😜 that I’ve seen in a loooong time!😅🤣
That's right I cheered when the car came on the screen. It's a character playing its self.
Me too!
Great blend of Hollywood and machines; a perfect venue for Jay! Thanks for the excellent episode.
The most beautiful car ever made in my opinion
That and the dino.
All of the most beautiful cars ever made were designed/built by the Italians. Carrozzeria Touring did a spectacular job on this one.
@@neonnoodle1169
Because Italian coach builders looked to the female body for inspiration. Thats amore.
If you love this DB5, and who doesn't, the new movie will blow you away as it did me. For me it was the best part but I got motor oil in my veins. Not to give anything away but just imagine drifting a DB5 on narrow mountain roads amongst the most beautiful scenery on the planet. Evading the enemy and smashing away into the middle of a classic ancient city. Then have you ever imagined what a V-22 Talon can do when it drops down just above ground and does 360's (donuts) with electric Gatling guns at full tilt. Cuts down everything around it. Just breathtaking and fantastic. Have to see this many times more. They did the cars so muuch better than any bond film ever made. No fake flips like in Casino - so regrettable. The cruise to Skyfall was monumental I must say to be fair, but this one is over the top cool!!!!
One of my most favorite James bond and personal favorite car of all times.
What a toy to buy! Congratulations to Aston Martin to go the extra mile building this memorable car!
Still living the dream vicariously, thanks Jay!
As a young mechanic, I was privileged to work on and drive a grey/green DB5. Being the same age as Jay, this was particularly exciting as the 12 year old me was enthralled by the Bond films.
What a great car. The reproduction is just perfect.
the most beautiful machine ever built by man.
I love this episode! When they deployed the smoke screen and Jay said" It's like every other british car now" I couldn't stop laughing!
I'm Patrick M. .. I went to the movies with my friends to see Goldfinger when it came out in 1964 I was 13 years old and been in love with the car ever since. I had a chance to sit in a DB5 silver birch in a show room in Chicago in 1974
Wow! That car is gorgeous and Jay has earned the right to drive something like that. I hope other RUclips personalities get to do the same.
I love this car. I love its lines, style, configurations, details and functions.
Fantastic video from Jay.
Great work from Aston Martin. Priceless! ♥
I used to have one of those back in the sixties .... It was only about four inches long, but the ejector seat was in full working order.
Thanks Jay for getting this Aston Martin DB5 bond car to show us ! Like you it brings me back to my childhood ,the closed I got to the BOND car was a corgi bond car with some of the same features as the real one ! pop up bullet shield and machine gun sticking out as well as injector seat ! fun memories !
How cool is this. I had a 1/64 version of this car when I was a kid. Pretty sure I wore the tires out playing with it. I remember it had the bullet shield in the back, not sure what else it had. Loved that car and love this one. Too cool. 👍👍
Such a handsome car. You can't tell me such a body style would not sell today.
This is an amazingly gorgeous piece of engineering art brought back by a time machine! And why does it sound so unique and great!?
This car is such a beautiful work of art!! Amazing!!
What a classic !! Such a joy to learn about and enjoy .
Thank you Jay !
This car is absolutely stunning, amazing, and a dream! As a mega-fan of the James Bond franchise and certified car nut, this is the melding of my two greatest passions in film and auto. I do find it disappointing that they didn't drive this on the open public streets and instead were on an empty backlot. Can you imagine the reaction of people seeing this on the streets while the gadgets were being used?!?! LOL!
Perfect car for visiting Compton or Detroit
In the Summer of 1967, I read every Ian Fleming James Bond books that were available. It was a great way to while away those lazy days.

How cool is that and how amazing that true artisans still exist. Imagine “building” a car.
Jay is like a little kid with this car! Ain’t we all!!
I can honestly say I’ve never been more jealous of Jay than I am now.
The Beetle is probably the most easily recognized car, but this one is easily the most expensive man child toy in the automotive industry. ✌
Chitty chitty. Bang bang. ????
One of the most beautiful cars ever built. Not quite as picturesque as the Jag E-Type but truly beautiful none the less.
How many are going to end up in private collections of billionaires, never to be seen in public again? Sad.
I agree. Many will end up with the wrong owner.
And then some billionaire’s kid will take it out to try and get laid, and then wreck this art piece.
I saw one randomly today on the side of the highway 😂 rich people will drive them too
So what, give them to poor people who can’t afford the upkeep. Don’t hate……celebrate.
