    Oh man, I have been watching resto vids for a couple of years now, and this is the FIRST time I have seen a vid on a toy that I actually had as a kid! I was a fan of Bond, and you cannot imagine the happy hours of my childhood spent with that car and the working parts... it was easily one of my favorite cars as a child. Thanks for a happy walk down memory lane!

    Well done, with all of those intricate parts to be dealt with! Good memories of a fun movie. We've lost so many of the stars - Burt, Roger, Dean, Sammy, etc. Thumbs up from Switzerland - Andrew 🍁

    A truly classic Corgi. It literally sold millions. The original gold one came out in 1965, and was featured in the 1964 movie 'Goldfinger'. About 18 months later, a revised version, in silver, was released, with two more cool features added: retractable tyre slashers in the centre of each rear wheel, and rotating number plates.
    Interestingly, in the novel of 'Goldfinger', Bond drives an Aston Martin DB-III, which, at the time, was a revolutionary looking car. Sadly, it features no gadgets other than the 'Homer', which is a tracking device, which Bond uses to track Goldfinger and Oddjob through Europe, and a secret compartment for Bond's guns. Ian Fleming obviously loved the DB-III (probably had a couple, himself), as a chapter is entitled: 'Thoughts In A DB-III'.
    Your restoration looks superb. I took one to bits many years ago - never again! You've done a lovely job indeed. Nice one.

      Great job Rob! This is work for a specialist. The Corgi brought back memories. A good friend of me had one. At home I had mostly Matchbox. They were much cheaper.

    The version I was given by my older cousin had the flip roof, front overriders/guns, rear screen shield, plus red "blades" on the rear wheels and rotating number plates front/back.
    Sadly when I came to restore it, the screen was cracked and one of the cabin pillars was so badly kinked, it would easily have snapped had I attempted to "right" it.
    I've seen a gold one of this in an antique shop but even back then in the late 1990s, he wanted £40 for it (wasn't mint and no box).
    Wonderful restoration of such an icon. The fact it's approx 1/43 or "O" scale is a bonus

    I was at a pop machine yesterday, an old guy is pondering why there should be Diet Coke in it. I told him the artificial sweeteners in it cause cancer in California, he paused and laughed. Asked me if I’ve ever been there. Nope. I won’t repeat what he said about California lol. I’ve never really wanted to drive across the country, but I do enjoy watching these videos. I hope you get to. Great job as always Rob.

    OMG, I had one of these as a kid, not sure why, but mine was originally silver and had the added tyre slashers, but still metal wire wheels. Maybe it was a special edition, oh, it also had revolving number plates.

    • @chrispalmer9838
      @chrispalmer9838 3 года назад

      The silver version was the later 270 edition which was a whole new casting. The original 261 gold version was modified from the Corgi Aston DB4 so the rear end and tail lights aren't quite the right shape for the DB5. Later 270s were given the plastic Whizzwheels and flared wheel arches and the tyre slashers and rotating number plates were deleted.

    Corgi must have made a bazillion of these models, yours is a lovely early one - they changed the rear bullet shield mechanism later so it's released by the rear bumper over-riders. Have you tried using several coats of primer and sanding it with 600 grit to fill pits? Works quite well
