- Following on from the Busweek series I released a few weeks back, I thought it would be good to continue on the electric theme with a review of a bus that kickstarted the recent electric bus movement.
This bus started life on trials across NSW, but now has a permanent home at Transit Systems, and can be spotted around the network!

That bus looks rare and the blue seating looks like hillsbus
It is, there’s 5 in the depot and 1 in service
My school bus is a Yutong D7.
Found it on the 320 (on my channel)
Also here is a tip: if you want to see a custom denning, go to bondi junction. they a few and are a little common on 379, 350 and 360 (usually they come at rush time (school time and weekends) because there is a lot for buses at that time)
I tried my luck last weekend before heading up to Brisbane this week, but didn't see any in service unfortunately.
@@TalkingPlanning Thats a shame, also pretty weird because custom dennings are more common than yutong (judging by location) if you look at the Waverley Deopt at the back you’ll see some
New ones out
Seen a few photos around- they look a lot more like the Brisbane Transport specs - dual rear door, bench seats and no cladding on top
@@TalkingPlanning yep, did a review on it
They should introduce the low-floor version.
Absolutely! There's very little reason NOT to go for a full low-floor option in this day and age.
I wonder why the BYD Gemilangs are so common (electric saying) but Yutongs, Custom Dennings and Volgrens are so rare to find also I just caught a yutong on 431
BYD/Gemilang are being brought in by an Australian import company called Nexport. Given BYD's global market share I would also guess their parts and maintenance support would be stronger. The BYD chassis can also be mounted on other bodies, like the Volgren Optimus, so there's more options.
@@TalkingPlanning yep just got one on 389
The B-Line double deckers have USB ports in them.
I caught a couple of B Line buses over the last couple of weeks when I was in Sydney, can't say I noticed them. Then again, unfortunately the B-Line buses I caught were pretty grubby and I was spending more time concentrating on how to avoid the rubbish that was left strewn over the seats and floor :(
Honestly, our cities shouldn't use these Battery busses so dependently, we should be switching to trolleybusses. The Soviets did it since the 50s and they had one of the best transport networks on Earth!
It's an interesting thought, many Aussie cities also had trolleybuses during this era. Unfortunately, much of the infrastructure was dismantled during the late 50's and 60's when people (and governments) got a taste of private motoring... if only there was the foresight to see the downsides. I think overhead charging could be excellent for high-frequency corridors, such as the B-Line, T-Way, O-Bahn and Brisbane's Busway network.
I believe Brisbane Metro is planning to use buses with 'flash charging' which is a supercapacitor giving more flexibility than being totally reliant on overhead wires, but also with much shorter charging time (a bit like the trams in Newcastle).
transit systems has ordered more e12s (3 or 4 from memory). don't know why they're opting for these now given they've just commissioned 35 byd d9r's, but it's interesting
Interesting, wasn't aware of that one, but as they say, variety is the spice of life!
Yutong was more a Chinese Brand that Australia took into buying from the manufacturer.& they had some purchases with the south west bus operators like interline bus services that got these & really suits the Australian bus operators that purchases them.
This was one of the first electric buses I ever caught in Australia, so I can see why operators are quite happy to have them in the fleet.
I think the UK has yutong e12’s too
Off-Topic a little. But I have to ask because I heard it mentioned. You said Precision VST. Did BusTech become Precision? Or is there some badge engineering going on?
Funnily enough, I managed to go on one last weekend, it is a case of badge engineering, and I believe is what the South Australian build vehicles are badged as.
precision buses and bustech merged at the end of 2019, and relaunched as the bustech group later in 2020. I think some carry precision branding, whilst others bustech. all the transit systems ones are precision but
