534 - Why the Regis in Ruby/Sapphire are my Favorite Legendary Encounters (+ LIVE! Shiny Regi)

- Another shiny video where the intro accidentally became most of the video! I decided to ramble on for a little bit about why the Regis feel like the most legendary encounters in the whole series to me. Believe it or not, there is not a single Reggie Fils-Aime joke in this video. I hunted for a shiny Regi for a new shiny hunting event called the Week of Legends back in July.

I remember in Elementary School not only realizing it was brail because it looked like the dots on our classroom / bathroom signs, but then having to bike all the way down to the local library so I could find a book on brail. Felt like such an achievement being the first kid in my grade to figure it out, so it's a bit of shame that now in the age of the internet kids can't really experience that same sense of cracking secrets in videogames.
Biking out to the library for that sounds like such a Pokemon adventure, too! It was a very cool era to play games for sure
Absolutely epic, I remember me and my grandma discovered this because she went to church and someone there just so happened to know braille and he gave us a sheet with the braille alphabet
It was so epic and I don't think I've ever felt quite like that since
@@brunospira exactly, when the game intersects with real life, thats when it becomes REALLY immersive and an unforgettable experience
You are probably one of a dozen people that figured it out without a game manual lol
I actually remember sitting down with my friend, copying all of the Braille letters onto a piece of paper, and grinding out the Regi trio for hours and hours. That was a pretty fun weekend. I’m glad that Game Freak kept the puzzles in ORAS although I wish the Sealed Chamber housed Regigigas instead of Regice’s cave
yeah, I always thought the way ORAS handled Regigigas was SO BIZARRE
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon At least they thought to actually keep it rather than doing the (unfair and inaccurate) stereotypical "gamefreak" thing and just put the Regis in those locations but they're just standing there and there aren't any puzzles.
Thats why Rayquaza was and is my fav. I had encountered him first in Ruby, couldn't catch him because I wasn't prepared for a Legendary. So I told my friends during elementary school and they never believed me.
Then Emerald got released. And I've had my Rayquaza from that game ever since, and im excited to have him in Gen 8 with the Crown Tundra
Should've shown them your Pokédex entry for Rayquaza
This was how I felt playing through my copy of Diamond when I was 7 or 8. I remember being completely floored by all the secret events and legendaries available in the game.
One of my best memories playing Pokemon was after I had beaten the elite four in diamond, and just happened to be running down route 214. I saw a completely new path towards the eastern side of the route that I had never noticed before. Following it, I got to sendoff spring and eventually turnback cave. Running aimlessly through those cryptic rooms and eventually stumbling upon Giratina sitting there motionless, calmly observing you as if it was expecting you to come still gives me chills. I love how nobody in the region mentioned it; there was no "hey you should go check out route 214" dialogue as far as I can remember. It was just this new thing that suddenly opened up to you, and they left it completely up to you to find.
THAT is what newer games are missing. In order to get that feeling once again, they will have to hide their secrets MUCH better. Make them more obscure, harder to find, more intricate and more difficult to accomplish. Don't include any NPC's pushing you in the right direction. Let it be something that someone stumbles upon totally by chance. That's the type of thing that makes your world feel so much more vibrant and detailed.
same, that and the regi puzzle are two of the best legendary encounters purely because it feels so satisfying to explore the world and uncover awesome secrets by that, or even stumble into them by accident :,)
i had a similar experience to you when it comes to giratina, i randomly found the path after beating the league and was sure i hadn't seen it before. the only difference is that, when i first saw giratina, it startled me because the sprite was so big and came out of nowhere, so i left the cave to kinda "gather myself" and prepare to battle, and then i re-entered the cave and poof, it wasn't there anymore. it took me another few minutes to find it again, but this time i actually battled and caught it. it's memories like these that stick with you, and it's a shame indeed that newer games don't allow you to run into things organically, but rather all but spell it out for you with big icons and npc infodumps
Great video! Hoenn in general felt like the most adventurous region to me and the regis are a prime example of that.
Ah yes, the old dial-up days. I remember beating Metroid Prime without the internet when it came out on the GC as a 12 yr old kid, and I'm still convinced puzzle games like this have never been the same. Ironically so many people don't have the patience because of 'backtracking', when to me it was just exploring the game after school. Easy access guides now let you beat a game in less than 15 hours now. You used to have to play endlessly and explore just the same way to figure out how to complete games. Now, I think it's all about that DLC, and mass completion goals that allow games to live so long. Anyway, I appreciate this video. Thanks
Without a doubt these are my faves too. Regirock in particular... I just love them so much.
I was expecting "what's up Pokémon masters, bird keeper toby here" with the quarantine hair
The regis used to be some of my favorite pokemon back then (regice was my favorite even for a bit). It must have been amazing finding that before getting your hands on the guide :O
I actually had the way to unlock all of them memorized for ORAS from when I was a kid, I didn't need to check any guides, hehe
I do wish they still had that kind of stuff. I went into swsh and its dlc without spoilers and I would've liked a few little secrets. I mean, doing complicated stuff to get the regis is fun even when you know what's going on too. Even when you know they're there, the regis do make Hoenn feel more deep if that makes sense.
this reminds me why breath of the wild worked so well, because everything is implied instead of just being in your face, that’s why every discovery feels like wonder instead of something you just expect. it’s sad that this can rarely be emulated in recent pokemon games, but it’s never wrong to hold out on hope :D
i gotta agree the regi hunt felt special
Im diggin the Megaman music!
Some other good legendary encounters are Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza in Heartgold and Soulsilver! It was so rewarding finding them
I had whiplash over the thumbnail preview being big chungus
Ah yes the best Pokemon game of all time "Pokemon Big chungas"
Almost 100thousand you deserve it
I was a notorious spreader of playground rumors at my elementary school lol. I spun multiple variations of the "mew under the truck" tale, but in LeafGreen this time. I totally believed it, too, and was piggybacking off rumors that other, usually older, kids had told me. I also totally believed you could find missingno in gen 3 the same way you could in gen 1. Good times. The real playground rumors came with the cards, though. We'd all hype each other up over ultra-rare legendary cards that didn't exist, ancient mew variations, cards that only had a few copies made, etc. People would try to scam each other out of rare cards by presenting normal cards as these "ultra-rare, never before seen" variations. It was wild, and there was this ring of kids that had binders upon binders of cool pokemon cards. Sometimes they'd "sell" them, but we had little to no money, so we'd pay in coins, silly bands (remember those?), drawings, plush toys, or anything else we could get our grubby little hands on. I miss the mystery and excitement surrounding pokemon in my elementary school days. Sometimes I wonder if kids today will ever have the same experience as I did growing up with pokemon.
Are we not going to mention how the regi theme is the best song in gen 3?
Where did you get the pokeballs displayed behind you? I have been looking for good quality ones but have only found cheap plastic or 3D printed ones. I thought maybe the ones that you have are good quality and i'll ask 😀
They were imported from Japan through a friend!
they're candy dispenser pokeballs made by Bandai I think
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon ahhh thank you!
I will never forget my experience with Ruby and the Regi’s.
I was around the same age as you, I found the sealed chamber by accident. Months passed and I assumed just like you it was just a cave. I mentioned this to two older kids in passing and they wanted to check it out. One of them kept their manual so he recognised the brail. Every day at school that kid translated everything for me and the other kid until we hit a road block with Relicanth the other two had no idea what it meant but I knew I had seen one in passing. The kid with the manual gave each of us his own handmade brail alphabet and that day I went full detective mode. The moment that screen shook was so exciting, I was full of Adrenalin. I wish new games were just like this, I honestly feel so sorry for children that won’t ever experience anything like that.
meanwhile the crown tundra just throws legendaries at you for doing absolutely nothing and at 100% catch rate too
@@longstachkaido240 at least the regi's were hard to get......right?
RIGHT??????
@@bebetterthanthepersonyouwe5857 yes they were
Sameeeee
games still do this. it's just that youtube and online guides in general are so prevalent that no one really has the patience to figure it out by themselves.
even if you searched for collaborative efforts like you did in your anecdote about going to school each day with new information, the other kids would just tell you to look it up...
This is just so true. I feel like Pokèmon has struggled to find it's footing with the widespread adoption if the internet.
And the way they handle mythicals too... I mean it’s not just the internet. Shiny locking legendaries in gen 6+, shiny locking starters in gen 8, just handing out the mythicals instead of giving you an item to find them, making the games so handhold-y... I honestly wish that they would make the games more difficult, or at least have a difficulty setting. Unfortunately, with data mining, and Internet forums, I don’t think there’s much that they can do about people learning so much about the games so soon, but I would love to see games more like gen 3
I I remember you said I
I I I I
I
I remember
I remember playing Sapphire in a pizza joint with my grandpa and he looked at the screen and recognized braille. Eventually I asked a cousin if he knew what braille was and we ended up translating the whole puzzle. It was a cross generational encounter in real life too :]
It's so difficult to keep secrets in the digital age, it makes me kind of sad. I'll never forget the feeling of wandering into the grass in Johto and encountering a Stantler for the first time and just being BLOWN AWAY because I had no idea what I was looking at. I really hope Game Freak comes back around to the idea of quirky mystery Pokemon again. They've kind of got it going on in Gen 8 with how weird some of the evolution methods are, so I'm hopeful it's a growing trend!
The ways to evolve Yamask and Farfetch'd were perfect!!! I hope they find ways to sneak more things in. The recent discovery that Pokemon that come to your camp can be shiny and sparkle in camp was a really awesome recent hidden discovery
Gen 9 has some odd evolution methods too
Famous playground rumor at my school: If you got to the 100th launch at the Mossdeep space center, then you could ride the spaceship up to the moon and catch jirachi
Wait are you telling me this wasn’t real
@@gabethyrubenstein7984 yes and no. i think there was an real life event at Gamestop or Toys R Us where they gave you a "launch ticket" or something

3:27 this is so true, i remember when i found volcarona in the desert and all my friends and i thought that it was a legendary pokemon and we all used it because we thought it was so rare and op, what a good time
It is pretty OP. I remember playing through Black on my DS as a kid, thinking you could catch Mewtwo in that cave by chargestone cave.
It IS pretty powerful.
I'm sure you get this a lot matt, but you really do make some of, if not the best pokemon content on youtube. Even when I'm on a low for pokemon I will always take the time to watch your videos because they are so we'll put together. I bought a switch and pokemon sword after watching your movie of pokemon sword. I never knew this about the regis in gen 3, and hearing your story was both nostalgic and enjoyable. Never stop doing what you do matt, you are truly one of the greatest pokemon youtubers.
Couldn't agree more, dude. I'm not even big on watching shiny hunting reactions usually, but Matt's videos bring me a ton of joy no matter what the subject is. Definitely one of my favorite RUclipsrs out there for having such a fun editing style, dry sense of humor, genuinely being very informative, and even those small vlog-like glimpses into his life during his level 100 gauntlets. Sorry if this all sounds corny, but new MattAbsol videos genuinely make my day and he needs to know how much he's appreciated!
totally agree
the little secrets and weird obscure stuff has always been my favorite part of pokemon games. the more ridiculous it is the better, i kinda just never want the search to end.
fun video it cheered me up a bit today :)
FINALLY! Another Regi trio fan! Those are hard to come by now. They are my favorite legendary trio
How they are like the best and such cool origins
@@pimpingporygon8229 well i just think they are pretty cool. I like how they are mysterious and they kinda act like robots
Well now they're a quintet
@@_piranha They can now start a band called “Regi and the Gigas”
@@dubiousweirdo3065 Registeel with the synthetizer or a mix table
Regieleki with the electric guitar
Regidrago with the bass
Regirock with the drums
Regigigas is the vocalist
And honestly i don't know for regice
Love the long intros keep em comin!
I dont know if everyone has a "discovering the regis" story but I do too and it's one of my fondest memories with pokemon. Had to have my aunt translate braille over the phone and it was just as difficult as it sounds 🤣
my regi tier list:
S: Registeel, Regirock, Regice, Regigigas, probably the other ones i haven't seen them, reggie himself

I’d say the only one I don’t like much is the new electric one. The rest are great though
@@pormpfspimperton6804 oh I thought they were fine, regidraco looks more like a grass type though :/
What makes you think it looks more like a grass type?
@@pormpfspimperton6804 the middle looks like a red onion, and the arms look like dark leaves
I guess I can see that
Well mat I will see if you showed no anime night
Pro tip. If you want any sense of that feeling ever again, go into the next major pokemon game blind. Totally blind from any leaks, trailers, anything. I did this with x and y and sun and moon and both ended up much more fun. Finding the legendary bird in x was super cool but finding guzlord in moon made me feel like a king
I try as hard as I can to do that every time, but it's so tough being so connected with people on the internet! I have to mute so many twitter accounts ahead of the games' releases
I remember getting regi's as a kid. I only found out about them since the credits creditted someone for braille. My brother saw that over my shoulder and said "There's braille in this game?" After googling what braille was I remembered seeing it in the game. My favourite one was regice :)
Regigigas is like one of my favorite pokemon! I have a little figurine of him that I painted sitting on my desk, so seeing this video pop up in my feed seemed very appropriate. I wish the Regis got more love! I guess they aren't that good competitively so they often get overlooked but my boy Regigigas deserves some love!!!
This whole video was a treat. I love your videos because they seem so personal, like you could have lived across the street from me as a kid or something lol. Keep it up!
This dude is on the verge of 100k hope he reaches it
Pokémon’s quality has definitely declined over the years, I remember that gen 3 was my favorite
Funny, I actually used to hate Gen 3 because I thought the original GBA was an awful system (had no backlight and used AA's). ORAS made me appreciate it a lot more.
@@dansamolewicz3462 I agree that the system was a lot better for ORAS but I think The original gen three is just a magical experience that you can’t replicate. The soundtrack, the appearance, the battles, the Pokémon, everything is just an experience that cannot be replicated.
The Pokémon from Gen 5 onwards have mostly poor designs, the main reason I won’t consider playing any post-Gen 4 game other than ORAS.
@@osrsbeatrs3249 I think black 2 and white 2 are pretty good. Since you could actually feel the heart put in them.
@@nonegiven5589 Black and White 2 are probably my least favorite games that same reason (not counting Fire Red or Yellow), they just don't invoke the same feelings as most of the other games. Not bad, and I do still like them a lot, but they just don't quite feel as much like a Pokemon adventure.
I grew up on 4th gen, our ‘regi trio’ was the Darkrai/Cresselia event, with honorable mentions being the old chateau and Arceus at the top of Mt. Coronet. The mystery and hype only grew stronger in Black2/White2 with the inclusion of the haunted house in that desert area, and the seemingly useless underwater ruins. Man, I miss those days.
Remember I was in Turkey. Laying on the side of the pool. And discovering the little dive spot.
Some dutchman came and said: you need relicanth and wailmer.
Thats the only thing. I did it and the only thing I caught that holiday was registeel. He didn't know how to catch the other 2.
I remember hearing a rumor in 4th grade charizard could evolve into charcoal, raichu had a fire evolution, the mew under the truck trick.lmao i tried all of them and failed but i do remember a kid saying the red gyarados was a shining pokemon and that he had other shining pokemon just to find out years later shinies are a thing haha i love pokemon man
this video truly gave me goosebumbs. you brought me back to when these 3rd gen games were so freaking mysterious. thank you man. also holy crap man. can't believe you're almost at 100k subs :o. happy to say i followed you from the start and you realy deserve it man! one of the best pokemon content creators out there!
Thanks so much!!!!!!! Was cool to randomly see you in thr chat on Gunner's stream yesterday haha
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon OH WOW! i was wondering who absoltastic was hahaha. suppose it's you. funny you noticed me haha. have a good one brother!
They definitely can do something like this again. The Demon's Souls remake on PS5 managed to do something like this. It befuddled players for weeks, even when glitches were used. If Bluepoint could manage this in late 2020 and have the mystery go on for weeks even with the internet and such, Pokemon can definitely do it in a new game, it would just need a lot of effort.
X & Y also had a big air of mystery around it since it was on new-ish hardware that had not been hacked/cracked open (the early days of the 3DS). Can only hope to see something like that again in the future, since it's totally possible, they just need good time for development!
I like that this indirectly taught you how to learn braille for the blind in real life. It was an incentive for you to learn a language that people with disabilities have to use. It would be even cooler if we get to see something with sign language in the future.
I love these types of videoes, man! They're so filled with absolute awe and love. I could feel myself being brought back in time to pre-internet Pokémon gaming.
Can we all agree that out of all the Regis (registeel, regirock, regice, regigigus, regidraco, and regilictric) regirock has the best shiny
Nah dude registeel
Weird flex with those cute baby pics Absol. Lol Great video as always! I’ve been enjoying these long form video essays. Feeling inspired
I never got them and I actually have a copy of alpha sapphire ready to get a Relicanth and Wailord, but I'm still waiting to get the Regis for the first time. I stopped playing pokemon after Gen 2 and came back not too long ago, it's so crazy to see all the things in different old games that are still new to me, I feel like a little kid again sometimes, not knowing how to get a pokemon, or how rare and powerful the pokemon is.
Truck: *exists*
Kids: something will be under there today, I just know it
I dont really like the regis but I loved the hunt for them. Having to decode the brail and search all around for the caves was a big achievement and something I feel is missing from new games. You were truly rewarded for your curiosity and exploration in these older games. I miss that alot. Hidden paths, caves, boulder puzzles, sevi islands, etc. Even running into roamers for the first time was a unique experience that would reignite my will to play when I was young. Maybe it's part nostalgia but anything past gen 5 has not interested me in nearly the same way. Emerald is all time.
Mysteries ruins in gold silver, the moth in black and white, arceus in platinum. But yeah it makes a difference if you are a child and have internet and all. Also those timed events can be nice (sure they suck if you can’t attend them), my fav. was the victiny one
i remember my cousin and i tried to find the regis and we read the word “braille” but 7-8 year old us thought it said “brailie” even tho that’s not a word so we thought it must be the pokémon “glalie” like close enough lol and omg we were so dumb at the time
i sure do miss the days of mystery with pokémon :/
I remember we just so happened to have been learning about Braille in my elementary school class when I was playing the game and stumbled across the cave and remembered seeing braille Institute listed in the credits so I used my reading class book and translated it myself. It was great
Jesus i need to learn to wait til the end to comment. Good to see im not the only person who wore the guidebook out and had all the pages start falling out
This is one of my favorite videos of yours Matt, and that’s saying a lot! The mystery of Pokémon I experienced as a kid is one of the biggest reasons why I love the series so much to this day! Here’s to hoping there will be some exciting secrets to discover in the Crown Tundra!
Bro, I can relate. The Regis are absolutely the best legendaries
in 4th grade a kid named kyle told me he had a playstation 2 version of mario sunshine and the soundtrack featured alice in chains
Of course it was a Kyle
Edit: can you add +Kyle Rant
Videos like this and your movies are why your favorite pokemon creator. Looking forward to seeing you hit the 100k sub milestone soon!
I was briefly in Girl Scouts and our scout book had braille written in it. When playing Sapphire and searching for the Regis, I felt so accomplished knowing I had easy access to figuring out the answers.
In lost my pokemon black 2 years back that had all my childhood pokes on it, and Registeel was the only full odds shiny I had on that cart that i actively hunted. I named him Bebob. I audibly gasped when i saw you got a Bebob of your own. Im so happy for you man, congrats!
Brenda the shiny Flygon that’s a great name for a flygon
Can we get Absol to 100k before 2021 (also my nickname for a few years was Matt) love your vids!!!
When I was a kid the myths were about finding these wild events and unlocking these secret areas to catch legendary (mythical but I didn't know the difference back then). Later I found out that these events were REAL! Luckily through the magic of homebrew and pksm I have been able to experience these events myself. That Arceus event was crazy in HeartGold, I thought it was fake. Real life pictures in a pokemon game!?! So yeah I never got to experience the fake things like mewthree or pikablu but man, the fact that my childhood stories ended up being real was awesome.
For me it was in my copy of Diamond when I found Giratina.
I was just in this... cave... and wandered around aimlessly, hoping to get a cool new item at the end. It felt like a puzzle but... something was off.
the creepy music, the fog, the pillars and inscriptions.
And when I got to the chamber... It felt surreal. I had maybe 50 Pokeballs and it took me 2 full days to catch this thing. I was sacred that it would disappear...
I caught it. And to this day Giratina will always be my favorite Legendary.
Without changing stuff too much, there's one thing I think gamefreak could do to get a feeling similar to this with other legendaries.
Adding ambiguity.
1. Instead of directly putting legendaries on the box art, we only see a part of them. They're left ambiguous.
2. The legendaries are involved in the main story, but we don't encounter or even fully see them. We don't even hear of their names.
3. Make legendary encounters only in the post game, preferably with VERY subtle clues and discoveries.
At least this is what I would do. I had a similar feeling when I discovered Mewtwo and Zygarde in X and Y. (X and Y were my first games) Although it wasn't to the same extent.
Goddamn what an adventure it was deciphering the braille with my pals in the elementary school chess club. First from braille into English and then from English to Finnish with a dictionary. I remember we were confused with Registeel for a good minute when the Eng-Fin dictionary lead us to believe we needed some kind of a frying pan key item or some overworld usable fire attack since it told *to shine* to mean *paistaa* which means both to shine (for sun) and to fry. Took us a while to even think of flash since we were all the type to grow up on Gen 1 and had got used to ignore flash from the beginning.
In middle school, before my family got the Internet, I translated the braille and caught the Regis. I told my friend about it and gave him the translation before our first period class. So class goes on as normal and we change rooms for second period. Out of nowhere, the room we had first period in erupted in laughter which is weird because that teacher couldn't tell a joke to save her life. It turns out my buddy accidentally left the translations in the room and that teacher read it out loud thinking someone was passing notes in class. So when she said "we feared the Pokemon" everyone realized that note was from me
this reminds me of when I was getting into world of warcraft for the first time. I was 10 and really unfamiliar with the internet as a whole but I always wanted to experiment to see if I could be the first to find something hidden. I would swim off the island until my character died of fatigue half-expecting some raid-boss-esque shark to attack me at any second. it would really put me on edge. I loved exploring the massive continents to try and traverse undiscovered areas and it was an amazing feeling to find the occasional hidden cave. Nostalgic video for the wrong reason but loved the trip! thank you
Nice showing it on the gamecube! Please continue to do so with gen 3 shinies! Also, could just be the angel of the camera, but you looked pretty far out, I'm assuming, at the beach there. Be careful of tides man, you never want to get swept out into the ocean!
The Crown Tundra _tried_ to replicate that feeling of adventure and research, with mediocre success, and I feel like in order to fully enjoy something like that again, you'd need minimal guides, and a library
I grew up poor so got all of my early Pokémon games secondhand at least a year after they came out. Also meant I never had the manual so I had to rely on others with the Regis. Definitely still a special experience.
Omg. This video deserves a million billion views! 😔 gone are the glory days of Pokémon mystery and hard work. Something tells me those days are gone forever because of how technology is today. I still have hope tho. That one day, I Pokémon game might drop that brings back all the joys of the glory days. There was NOTHING like playing through gen one and gen 2 with little to no internet access ☺️..... the glory days.
Haven't watched you in a while, you went from country red head, probably named Hunter, all the way to being Bryan Star
How exactly do you catch big chungus? I only have the game on PS4 so wonder if it's different on Xbox..
I love playing BiG cHuNgUs it’s so fun I found a shiny big chungus and the stomach changed from white to white it was so cool
It was a magical feeling that truly can never be recaptured again. The perfect confluence of time period, mystery, and game devs who wanted to add that extra adventure to their game through details. One of the most beautiful works of art in that it could only be experienced at that time, especially heightened by childhood wonder.
Matt this is such an awesome video. And I totally, 100% agree. I remember learning about the Regi’s in the lunch room and being like “umm you need a relicanth and a wailord to do what??”. Really enjoyed this one pal, good stuff!
Emerald will always be my favorite game because there was so much mystery to it when I was younger. I accidentally stumbled upon Groudon in the alternate cave that only appeared on certain routes during a random drought. I found the strange rock formations in the desert and route 121 for regirock and registeel (took me longer to find regice). And only after days of research did I find an obscure article explaining Braille so I could unlock the chambers.
I remember reading gamefaq forum post after forum post about odd encounters people had. I remember a post about the white rock in Mossdeep and how you needed to find a rare Wish Tag key item to unlock Jirachi but only after the rocket had 100 successful launches. Other crazy conspiracies about riding the rocket to space to fight Jirachi and Deoxys.
Another examole, I read a gamefaq post on how to find an elusive orange zigzagoon on a certain route, and the poster described the entire party he had, the time of day he encountered it, the tile of grass, etc. all so players could attempt to replicate the results. Years later did I finally learn about shinies and their mechanics. But it was this sense of exploration of the unknown that kept me playing for hours on end. There was so much that was “hidden” in the game that there was always something new to uncover.
Aren't the Regis supposed to symbolize geological forces? What are the new ones in SwSh supposed to be then?
I accidentally said all my childhood that a pokemon was more secret than Arceus in Diamond. I'm French and I had a R4. And looking at the cheats you can see event to meet legendary, and all legendary names are the same in English and French. But after the Arceus event cheat, there was a pokemon with a name I never saw before. Rotom event cheat code. So for me Rotom was the ultimate legendary, the impossible pokemon to get in Diamond and Pearl
Holt shit man havent checked out your channel in about a year youve lost so much weight well done my guy. Respect
one of the main reasons for why i treasure cherish and love gen 3 so much is because in what other game do you get to do a weird pagan ritual with a coelacanth and a blue whale

I think the last time I remember seeing you in a video was when you did that BW film with you battling 10 people online. You lost weight and look good man, glad to see you’re nearly at 100K. Congratulations on the whole journey!
Now THAT video is a deep cut hahaha. I haven't thought about that one in years! Thanks so much!
My school was like this, granted it was 2012 but nobody had a phone so nobody ever looked things up. but I remember my friend told me and some others that every time you went to the store in black and white you had a rare chance of being able to buy a shovel. And if you brought it to wellspring cave and dug through the bottom floor you would appear on the other side of the earth where you could catch every legendary and starter pokemon at that time. We really believed it, but never found that shovel..
I feel like there are some honourable mentions which aren't as well hidden as the Regis, but are still very well worth mentioning.
Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza (HG/SS): Out of all the honourable mentions, these are by far the most noteworthy. The Weather Trio in the Johto remakes are found in a remote location, the Embedded Tower, west of Cianwood City. You cannot reach the Tower without Rock Climb, meaning you have to beat all 16 gym leaders to enter the tower. But it doesn't end there, as nothing will happen once you enter the tower. You have to beat _RED_ in order for the Weather Trio to be available in the Embedded Tower, and that's only after you obtain a Kanto Starter from Professor Oak and then talk to Mr. Pokemon. In Soul Silver, Groudon will be in the tower, while Kyogre will be in there in Heart Gold. In order to get Rayquaza, your copy of the game must have both Kyogre and Groudon on the save file, afterwards you must talk to Professor Oak with both in your party, allowing you to receive the Jade Orb and catch Rayquaza. To push it even further, you can't transfer a Groudon and Kyogre from the Gen 3 games, they MUST be caught in the Embedded Tower. These legendaries definitely encourage exploration and completion of the game, and are thus very noteworthy.
Giratina (Diamond and Pearl): Before Platinum came out and Giratina was made the box art legendary, it was only found in a winding, puzzling cave which could only be accessed in the post-game. You wouldn't know where this cave was unless you were walking down Route 214 and noticed a path which never existed before, and which leads you to a new location, the Sendoff Spring. Once you enter Turnback Cave, which is found in the Sendoff Spring, you would have to complete a puzzle which would reset entirety if you failed to complete it. At the end, a large, ghastly dragon, which has never been mentioned once before by any NPC.
Kyurem (Black and White 1): After beating the game, you might be wanting to explore the new areas a bit. During your adventures, you come across Lacunosa Town, and not too far away, the Giant Chasm. You decide to eventually explore the area and realize that it has one large, winding path leading towards a small crater in the center. Suddenly, the area fills to the brim with snow and you begin walking around aimlessly, eventually finding a cave which couldn't be accessed before. At the deepest depths of this cave, is Kyurem, a freezing dragon which would be revealed to be part of both Zekrom and Reshiram, and is technically, the true dragon of the three.
And because the games like to be a real pain sometimes, here are some non-legendary mentions.
Spiritomb (D/P/Pt): You know the drill. You found an Odd Keystone, place it into the broken tower, and now you don't know what to do. You eventually give up on the tower and move on. At the end of your journey, you fight Cynthia, and her leading pokemon is one no other trainer has, a Spiritomb. After your battle, you're desperate to find this bizarre, yet fascinating pokemon, which leads you back to the broken tower on Route 209. As it turns out, this is where Spiritomb is caught, and it's spawn method? The Underground. You must talk to 32 people in the Underground before Spiritomb will show up, making it an absolute pain which will fill you with a massive sense of accomplishment after catching it.
Feebas (Gen 3 and 4): Found in only 1 location in the games it appears in, this fish is certainly interesting, as it evolves into the beautiful Milotic. You begin to surf in the waters, only to find it won't show up, so you try fishing. You try for a short while, but after no luck finding it, you give up and begin thinking about new things. That's where the game gets you, as Feebas is only ever found on 4 random tiles determined at the start of the game (or at the beginning of each day in Gen 4), and there is no indication on which tiles they are. You will need to fish on each individual tile if you wish to find this elusive fish.
Rotom (Gen 4): I like to consider this a legendary, but since it's not officially classified as one, it's place is here. But regardless, in it's debut generation, this ghost pokemon was one-of-a-kind, being found in the Old Chateau at night after thumping the TV and only once in the whole game.
This was definitely a long comment but I hope you enjoy reading it!
I agree that Rotom definitely feels legendary, feels more legendary than many other Pokemon in future gens!! Same goes for Spiritomb
I absolutely love your videos, I feel very identified with the passion you have, keep creating Pokémon content as good as ever. greetings from Mexico your friend Edgar 😄
The way you described your experience completely mirrors mine with my brother when we discovered the regi's all those years ago, sadly with the levels of data mining and racing as you describe with current pokemon games to expose every fact and secret I really doubt we'll experience something like finding the Regi's again.
I hope Absol gets a shiny in the crown tundra
Like ur vid you know what I’ll hunt regidrago and regielki
The best bs rumor I've been told was that in diamond and pearl if you sit on the cushion in rowans lab for long enough, a pokemon called Iarkrad(darkrai backwards) thats got darkrai's colors inverted would show up. I definitely tried that to no avail
That one sounds so cool that I wish it was real
as someone who just last year started playing Pokemon, getting the regis in Emerald was still an experience
I remember there was this girl who lived down the road from me and she used to tell me everyday that if i left a magikarp in the daycare centere in red, blue or yellow, it'll eventually turn into a Mew. I also remember that girl also telling me that Pokemon would literally die or disappear from teh game if I built my pokemon to level 100 but none of it was true. I think she only got the mew evolving from a magikarp thing due to magikarp being very common in all bodies of water if you fished with an old rod and like if you perform a specific glitch with the bug catcher near nugget bridge (the one standing to the left of nugget bridge) and you surf around Cinnabar island, you'lll encounter the mew but still though, I thought it was a pretty cool rumor. Along with the mew being under the truck in vermillion city.
that Pokemon dying or disappearing rumor reminds me of similar stuff I heard about Nintendogs LOL
I love reading all these old rumors in the comments
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon Oh no, NIntendogs dying! XD I remember hearing those rumors too and for awhile when i was school, I feared my nintendogs dying xD But i quickly realize that that's not true since Nintendo didn't want any dark stuff in their kid-friendly games (besides some slight dark stuff in Pokemon).
So I had similar experience like you did in the beginning. I found that sealed chamber on accident and when I saw the dots, I recognised it as braille. I was kind of a crypto geek and loved secret language.
So I make it to relicanth and wailord point. I didn’t have a relicanth but I had a Wailmer. So I went to evolve it.
But unfortunately the next day, my save gets corrupted and I lose all my progress.
I get so disheartened that I didn’t replay that cartridge of Sapphire ever again :(
But years later, I was so glad the remakes came because I could relive that “discovery “. Those remakes removed that sourness I had for almost a decade
I'm thankful to have enjoyed such an experience as this with my copy of Sapphire when I was 9/10. I had obtained the guide after beating the game and used it for the entirety of the search for the Regis, but it was as fulfilling of an experience for me as you had described. I even went through the entire experience after finishing Diamond of migrating my Regis and discovering Regigigas.
The combination of the internet and Game Freak's inability to make the 3D titles remotely as immersive as the 2D titles eventually led to Alpha Sapphire being my final entry in the series, and seeing how Sun/Moon/LetsGo/Sword/Shield turned out only made me more content with Alpha Sapphire remaining my final outing in the series.
I still remember a friend telling me that if you push Rui in Colosseum away, a hidden textbox pops up at some point. I tried that out for hours lol. Great video! Looking forward to see you hitting the big 100k sub milestone!!
MMbN background music was a nice touch
