I am from Russia, Western Siberia to be exact (no, it’s not that bad ). My husband and I lived in Asheville since 2004 and absolutely love it here! In 2015 we became parents to a baby boy, Dmitry (named after my grandfather). And in January 2020 Dmitry became a big brother to Katya. We now share our home with Romeo, who is a jack russell (We lost our first dog in 2022).

I'm a 53 year old Miami native, I spent my 20's('91-'00) in Asheville and fell in love. I ended up back in Miami and having children. Now they are young adults doing thier own thing so I'm moving back to the mountains, Arden, NC. Next month. Western NC is where I belong. I've heard from old good friends that Asheville is no longer what it used to be.
Asheville changed for sure. Come see in person
The people coming here can not leave what they know or the hang me owners that are vampires your lives they come with you. Having millionaires running around changes the culture just like a tornado, they are in the eye we are the damaged area. Everything you have heard about the changes in Asheville think like you are moving to San Fran Ca. Look up land of sky inc for they have took over Western NC. The biggest question I get you are really from here for currently no one is.
Much less congestion than South Florida even though it has grown the amount of congestion is nothing compared to the Miami metro area that has also grown a lot more. Also looking forward to less extremely dangerous and crazy driving like we have in South Florida. I like the friendly live and let live vibe that Asheville has that has waned here and has been replaced with a lot of aggression and hostility. Life is getting harder here with 10,500 home owners insurance plus 3400 flood insurance plus 12k a year taxes on a new home that is actually out of the flood plane and built up. The Florida state legislature has failed to do anything significant about it. We aren’t waiting around till our home owners insurance bill goes to 35k a year. I used to go to summer camp near Asheville every year as a child. I’m looking forward to less stress and a safer and healthier environment with room to garden and peace and room to breathe.
Oh wow, thank you for sharing Bob.
What summer camp did you used to go to?
I went to Rockmont in Black Mountain. My brother went to camp Carolina in Brevard area.
Awesome!
Stay away from Asheville city limit by miles and you will be happy for decades.
Asheville is a beautiful area. I used to live in Raleigh and had to go to Asheville on business frequently. I only wish I could have afforded to live there.
It is beautiful and not as affordable
i meet people every day from St Pete here, my hometown.
@@Mojokiss not surprisingly
@@Mojokiss we actually just had someone close on a home here from St Pete. They found us on this channel ❤️
@@livinginashevillenc why am i not surprised!?
Man, where aren't New Yorkers moving? They are overwhelming our beach towns and our mountains. New York must be empty by now!
Surely not empty 😅
NY'ers ruined FL already, now they are spreading out.
I have Asheville on the list of places to move to, i have autism, so is Asheville friendly towards autistic people and do they have good resources for people with autism. Just hate the heat in Florida and prefer 4 seasons.
I know there are resources for kids. Not 100% sure about adults. Is that would you be looking for?

Yikes! Living west of Asheville for decades now, what used to be a seasonal migration became a sort of invasion,, and now seems like an infestation. People moving here have brought the very congestion and attitudes they claim they are wanting to leave behind, while complaining about lack of services (caused by the increasing population and their expectations/sense of entitlement). Even the politics have changed for the worse and once sufficient infrastructure is becoming stressed.
Trouble in paradise ===> paradise lost?
What do you think can be done?
@@livinginashevillenc Fist, I know a lot of Florida folks who live here full time but maintain their residency in Florida to avoid taxes on income and vehicles. Other states, Washington State and Colorado for example, have strong laws and enforcement over that sort of thing. Another enforcement mechanism is voter registration. You don't pay taxes here (all of them), then you can't vote here. Other than that, like a lot of things, not much can be done.
Another downside is that housing prices in our area have gone sky-high, while working wages have not. Young adults simply can't afford to buy, or even to rent, Further, family farms and larger tract property owners are incentivized to sub-divide and/or sell to developers, even though those lots frequently remain unsold/un-built for years, even decades. I've watched this greed/boom/bust cycle play out many times since we first came here in 1972. In an area that now has essentially two industries, retirement and tourism, recovering from those downturns takes a long time.
Sorry if I seem preachy but it's hard to watch again, especially when so many who come here have no lasting connection to the area.
@@TheGhungFu that is a very well said answer, to a very complex issue. The lean towards tourists and retirees has probably brought a large amount of cash to the area, however it seems it just funds more of the same. there's little job options outside of service industries it seems that is a response to capture all the tourists money. really reminds me of a ski town. i think only the city gov can fix the issue, but tourist cash is just too attention grabbing
Curious... How are there 2 Living in Asheville channels???? Looks like you were first?
Welcome to original channel.
I had my very first video about a neighborhood in Asheville 6 years ago
@@livinginashevillenc Well I don't get how there can be 2 channels with the same name. Bummer she piggy backed on your idea; it doesn't seem right to me. She just recently popped up on my recommendations and I was confused.
I'll stick with the original! Thank you.
@@JodyLSumrall tell me about it..
My impression when I went to NC was they can't stand us Floridians
I don’t know if it goes for all Floridians…
Cultural differences can play a role, you think? For example here people are way more laid back (on the road especially)), and consider it rude when someone honks at a red light.
you are probably not a floridian, you're a newyorker
@@robertc8766 wrong born and raised and I was as usual very polite. I just didn't get a warm feeling and my boyfriend felt tge same way it was Ashville maybe other parts are different 😕
Oh they hate you just for being in "their town" Walmart workers making comments when i had an out of state license. its hilarious how they think they're better than people from elsewhere, i dont think most of those people have seen much of the world, let alone their own country.
I was born here and my first girl friend was from Florida as was the second. The problem is your families they come because you did and refuse to become apart of the mountains.
Asheville has a horrible quality of life. Overdevelopment is bad. Construction on buildings and traffic. A bad hospital that feds cited as dangerous and may lose medicaid and medicare. Corrupt city leaders. No affordable housing. Schools half fiilled. Most of the police quit. A bad homeless problem. Paradise lost.
Assuming you moved away?
Yes, let me pay state income tax again, do vehicle inspections pay tax on vehicle registrations. Not. I used to live in Charlotte. No thanks
Well good 👍🏻
Snow. 😮
@@marknewton6984 what about it? 😁
No,,, living in North Carolina isn't better than Florida especially in the hills with the hillbillys!
Thanks for sharing your opinion
Bad politics there !!!
Spent last winter all around Florida and it's an absolute shit hole.
@@simplecarnivore lol why?
@@livinginashevillenc Traffic and filth.. One of the dirtiest states I've been in
@@simplecarnivore I can confirm that as well. Had a meeting in Orlando this week and noticed the medians were filthy and trash was even in the "nicer" areas. I'm from Charlotte and there are almost as many Floridians here as Asheville and Boone. Only diff is we don't have as many gated communities as they're throwing up in the Asheville area.
I looked at Asheville, way too many homeless, drug addicted people….if you’re a leftist/liberal you’ll love it
Defund the Police community. Pass
🥲
Might I suggest The Villages just north of Orlando. You'd love it and you'd stay in Florida.
Floridian moves to Asheville and insists on being in a gated community. Way to assimilate.
Hmmm, not true about all Froridians, and in my experience no one ever insisted on being in a gated community.
@@livinginashevillenc That may have been a generalization but I have a friend who is a realtor in Asheville and retirement age Floridians absolutely ask for it. Next thing you know you'll have your own version of the Villages up there complete with political golf cart parades and the highest STD rate in the state. My uncle owns 135 acres of property in Marshall (Madison County) and builders (from Florida) are constantly walking his property and making pitches to buy all of his land for, wait for it, a gated community. This is not just anecdotal.
@@stephengriffie8143 I don’t doubt that!
