I love the first album Eddie. He looks so gross and like a crackhead, standing there with his wild hair in the glow of the streetlight at night in a dingy city. It’s so memorable for me. It’s always been a cover that has been engrained in my head ever since I saw it. Also I’d have to agree with you, it’s my favorite maiden album too!
To be perfectly honest, I would never call any album cover straight up bad, as long as it's drawn (not photographed or edited) and actually created by a human being. I always appreciate either the concept or the art style.
Piece of Mind is my favourite for nostalgic reasons, it's when Iron Maiden went from being my dad's generation's band to my generation's band. I would listen to my dad's albums before Festivus 1983, that's when I got a stereo system and started buying my own albums & cassettes, Piece of Mind, Slayer's Show No Mercy and Kill 'Em All by Metallica were among my first music hauls and back then a new album was about $5 or $6, you could buy singles for $2 or less. It's also the debut of one of my favourite drummers Nicko McBrain, I played along to that album too many times to count, still needed 2 bass pedals.
My favourite Maiden covers are those from 1986 with the Blade Runner themes, that was Peak Rigsy. As the most under-rated I would vote for A Real Dead One, there is a great deal of detail that is easy to miss, and Eddie's posture is cool. The "best" album cover of all time is Brain Salad Surgery. Very hard to beat. Attahk, To Mega Therion or Eparistera Daimones are also good, but in 1974 no one knew who the hell Giger was. Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh produced an image/logo so powerful that is more recognisable than the band itself. Worth mentioning.
My favorite album cover is the debut And the worst is Dance of the dead. I really like the Maiden Japan with the cover with Paul's cut off head. Cheers!
Faves. Albums: first three & Sonewhere in Time Singles: Stranger, Madness, and Total Eclipse Worst: X-Factor, Virtual XI, and Dance of Death (what were they thinking??)
seen em in Portland OR on the 14th. . . it was fucking amazing man. I thought well shit we will see what we get cause there getting up there and all. . . they absolutely blew my mind. Shit was crazy bro you're in for a fucking good show.
I’ve sat so many hours watching these iron maiden covers ans trying to find the symbol that the artist put in every album cover. You should have looked at the back of the covers too they are just as cool!
@sugma3475 number of the Beast literally carries the world best Mettal song "Hallowed be thy name" which is considered to be Iron Maiden's best song plus run to the hills which is a great song especially on the radio
Riggsy was the best artist Maiden ever had and it's a shame the Maiden camp (Rod Smallwood I think) kinda soured their relationship with him at the start of the 90s by not taking into account the importance of continuity or themes within his work with Eddie and he wasn't too pleased at the idea of "Going back to the beginning" and recreating a painting of Eddie in a similar style of the debut so he ended up losing interest and although he still did stellar work for No prayer for the Dying, he submitted something not up to his usual standard for Fear of the Dark and Maiden decided not to use it and went with Melvyn Grant instead and then used Hugh Syme for The X Factor and Melvyn again for Virtual XI. They didn't work with Derek again until Brave new World in 2000. Although I like the others, for me Derek Riggs is THE only Iron Maiden artist
Book of Souls and Shinjtsu just anoy tf out of tve me cus the guy that did both coverd also did really nice full peices for them but they were just slaped in the booklets for some reason and instead we get boaring af covers
Not metal but my least favorite is Go Away White by Bauhaus. It’s a boring white cover with an angel’s back?? Heck even Mask is better and it’s Daniel Ash just drawing random things lol
The reason that the last two album art is so plain so that Eddie can stand out more when viewed on a phone or some other kind of listing device. My eyes go crazy looking at somewhere in time on my I pod. Plus, on Brave New World Derrik Riggs left the project halfway through so they used his smoke cloud from his unused wicker man single art and someone digitized London in.
Iron Maiden are actually a Prog band. Judas Priest is good but the rhythm section on every album is so weak compared to Iron Maiden. Really only Rob's voice is better than Bruce's & maybe Glenn is a better Metal guitarist than Dave & Adrin? But Maidens musicality is superior, always.
12:57 I actually saw Battleaxe live headlining at Hammersmith Odeon, supporting that album. Madam X dropped off the bill and there were about 30 people there.
Whats YOUR favourite Iron Maiden album cover?
Ether piece of mind or killers
@@ScoopedMids Killers
Killers
Number of the Beast definitely
Virtual XI is wicked cool for me. Also the first two
Rest in Peace, Paul
RIP Paul Di'Anno

Virgin Killer by The Scorpions
@@ScoopedMids It's a photograph.
@@ScoopedMids Anthems of Rebellion by Arch Enemy or Fallen by Evanescence.
Once Derek Riggs was replaced, Eddie looked like shit.
Derek just made incredible album covers for Maiden.
Even the band were jealous of Eddie!

Best album cover : *Caught Somewhere in time*
Worst: *Dance of death*
Power slave or somewhere in time really do it for me, both sonically and visually they have a lot going on.
My favourite Maiden covers are those from 1986 with the Blade Runner themes, that was Peak Rigsy. As the most under-rated I would vote for A Real Dead One, there is a great deal of detail that is easy to miss, and Eddie's posture is cool.

Seventh Son is maybe the best album in music history. And the cover is epic (another one, tbh).
Yup. Can't beat Seventh Son.
That was top of the hill.
Couldn't agree more.
Mastodon and Dio's album covers go hard as well
My favorite album cover is the debut
And the worst is Dance of the dead.
I really like the Maiden Japan with the cover with Paul's cut off head.
Cheers!
HARD AGREE!! The first record is the best record and best cover!!
Paul Di'anno supremacy
Gangland is their most underrated song!
And one that Nicko could never play properly, let alone Run to The Hills or Wrathchild.
Faves.
Albums: first three & Sonewhere in Time

I’m actually seeing Iron Maiden in Denver tomorrow.

Nice overview. For my money Death far and away has the best line-up of album covers in Metal.
Ed Repka was the goat
Riggs' work in the 80s was iconic, but really started to go downhill in the 90s, and the covers that were done by other artists just aren't the same.
12:41 i think somewhere back in time is AWESOME
Eddie would make a great Spawn villain. I'm surprised that crossover hasn't happened, Todd McFarlane would get to make Eddie action figures.
Dance of Death needs to be rereleased with a new cover!
Dance of death> literally any other cover
Maybe you just stf?! All their album covers are really epic dude...
Never say number of the Beast is overrated
It is overrated and Killers would be as well regarded, probably more so, if it got the same media attention NotB had.
@sugma3475 number of the Beast literally carries the world best Mettal song "Hallowed be thy name" which is considered to be Iron Maiden's best song plus run to the hills which is a great song especially on the radio
Aces High was always my favorite single cover if Ed
The Molly Hatchet album covers that show a warrior are great. Riot also has a mascot (Johnny, the Mighty Tior).
Somewhere in Time and Life after death are just awesome covers....but all are great.
Make this a series this videos was fun
R.I.P Paul Di’Anno 😢😢
Lmao how did I had not noticed the football game before
12:14 Hard disagree. Total Eclipse is BORING compared to the thrashiness of Gangland
Good video. I like Priest better than Maiden as well, but both are in my top 3 (with Sabbath).
The mummy Eddie in the manacles
Kudos

I always think killers album is the greatest with the axe
it made a great poster too! It took center stage on my wall, and was the first thing mom would see when she dare enter.
2006 matter of life n death but with other Eddie's as the soldiers😊
Killers/Beast era Eddie was the best version in my eyes
Cool video 🤘
Hillarious! \m/😂
The only good album covers were from the only good albums - FIRST TWO ONLY. Bruce Dickheadson came along and everything got goofy
You should give the game a look (not Edd hunter, legacy)
Mandela EFFECT.....IORN MAIDEN .....IORN IS MADE OUT OF ......ORE NOT RONE....THERFORE IORN MAIDEN....the world is a vampire ;)

Im not a big fan of that album musically, it sounds too polished for a bauhaus record

Everyone with functioning eyes know Dance of Death has one of the worst Metal cover arts of all time, bottom 10 easily.
I mean, when stuff like shitfun by autopsy and hanging in the balance by metal church exist, dance of death seems almost preferable.
didnt watch the videos but maiden after fear of the dark is boring and shouldnt exist
