I've listened to a lot more Metallica since 1983 than Megadeth just like the public in general. The point about complexity is just that , Mustain is a more accomplished player and some people respect and appreciate that, it doesn't mean everything. James has a more acceptable singing voice to most people and that sells records.
Dave just says stuff, sometimes true, sometimes not, but one thing about Dave….he’s an amazing guitar player and songwriter, and without getting kicked out of Metallica we never would have the catalogue of Megadeth, which we all love.
You got that right. Dave is an awesome song writer & guitar player. People need to really look back at the Metallica albums. If it were not for Mustaine & Bob Rock there probably wouldn't be a Metallica.
Never cared about who was better or the fighting between the two bands. I love heavy metal and there are a lot of great bands out young and old. I’m 52 years old and lived through all of it and happy to see that it is still alive today and seeing kids today embrace it. Keep the Heavy Fkin Metal Heart beating.🤘🏼❤
@@Jimmy-nd1qu Yes agreed, Megadeth's 16 albums are way better than Metallica's 11 albums. With Teemu Mäntysarri, on the next album, it's going to be awesome!
I think Metallica’s first 4 albums are absolutely legendary but overall I think Megadeth has consistently edged them out in terms of consistency in song writing and song quality and just sheer talent musically. But generally I prefer Megadeth since their music tends to be a little more innovative technically and not absolutely blown out like Metallicas music. There’s only so much master of puppets and ride the lightning you can hear in your life before you tend to want to move on.
This is the best way to explain my opinion on both bands I have loved and compared one stop, since listening to both of them. You articulated my opinion on superb fashion, brotha. My favorite album has always been 'Kill 'em All'... No coincidence that half of that album was MegaDave and the other was Metallica's brothers Lars and James. The first Metallica album was a masterpiece that I still enjoy now as much as when I did having first bought it, decades ago. Overall, I do prefer Megadave for the same reasons you stated.
I love both bands. I am also weird because I actually like Risk and St.Anger. I'm actually glad I came across this video because about 90% of your analysis is on point and fair. Very good job job my dude.
Metallica has too much money to care what Dave or anyone says, Dave just likes to start chaos because it keeps people talking about him after all these years, but thats what I love about the guy & he really has been thru alot in life. As a girl I love Megadeth and the emotions & angst Dave writes about & he plays the guitar like he is possessed. He is a true Artist.
Fuck, this video was such a good time. As a 20+ year fan of both these bands, I was pleasantly surprised to learn we share many same opinions, both about the bands’ music and their members. Keep up the great work; huge fan of your stuff!
In hindsight I have to give it to Megadeth. The fact that Mustaine is still alive is miraculous. But those albums from 1988 to today hold up -- in like a jazz way -- and while Metallica's first 4 are phenomenal, they've had a near 30 years streak of meh at best. I look at Mustaine like an addicted jazz musician/band leader -- brilliant, flawed, difficult, genius -- who managed to not kill himself and create some timeless complex but still approachable metal along the way and it's appeal had only grown on me over the years. So Megadeth hands down the better band.
I totally agree with this. Mustaine is like the Miles Davis of metal. He was the key innovator of the thrash style and then put together several of the best Thrash bands.
I believe without Dave Mustaine their would have never been the Metallica as we knew in the 80’s therefore Metallica would have never became what they have become
I've always liked anthrax more than both of them, with Anthrax thrown out, I preferred Megadeth. Slayer has the most output I still listen to constantly, just because I don't have a megadeth album after cryptic. I do not own a Metallica album after the black album. I have everything Slayer and Anthrax put out, but Slayer has more songs.
I gotta give props to Lars and James, aside from some smack talk in the 80's, over 30 damn years ago, they always speak of Dave with respect, yet Dave constantly has to take jabs at Metallica in some way. I can understand why Dave was so bitter about getting kicked out, but after Metallica has tried to reconcile with him time and time again you'd think he could shut up about them. He's been back and forth about it for decades. Looking at interviews of Dave over the decades in general, he seems pretty all-over-the-place. Sometimes he's respectful, down-to-earth, and even says wise things now and then, but other times he's incredibly hostile and egotistical and says baffling things. I love Megadeth, but Dave is a real mixed bag. Though that's not to say the guys in Metallica have all been perfect, because no one is.
Yeah, I was watching a video from 1986 where Metallica went to a college radio station and answered phone calls from fans. Someone asked Lars about Dave/Megadeth and Lars said nothing but good things about Dave and how he was talking to Dave about Peace Sells, which hadn’t been released at the time. Dave’s awesome, but he seriously needs to stop complaining about getting kicked out of Metallica.
I like both bands. But when I'm playing their music, Megadeth is much more sophisticated. It's well known that Cliff Burton was the one with the musical guts and experimentation ideas. After he died, Metallica took what they learned up to that point and basically took it as far as they could then just kind of tweak it from there. The fact that there's so many Megadeth members means that there's a LOT of different things in Megadeth music. Not because Dave's some kind of genius, even though he kind of is, but because there's so many different skills that come in and out that the music can't help but evolve. It's not as inbred.
The whole "Lars getting canned after the Master of Puppets tour" thing has some validity according to Scott Ian's conversation with Cliff and James that he states in his book, "I'm the Man".
I think Dave Mustaine is working his angle because Record Labels love controversy. It is similar to Easy E feuding with Dr. Dre, or NWA feuding with Ice Cube ;)
Great video! I would add that in my opinion James and Dave were the seed of hm. Lars was quintesential manager, he was probably the most important person in the hm scene. Not much of a drummer but a prophet of hm.
I do remember an interview with Metallica where James makes fun of Dave's vocals on symphony of destruction, he pinches his nose and does a real nasally high-pitched brief cover of part of it
One thing I hardly see represented about Kill 'Em All is that Kirk was asked to use the beginnings of Dave's solos as a jumping point for the sake of compositional compromise. I believe Kirk did so grudgingly
There is no “sell out”. These are musicians that don’t want to play the same exact stuff forever. Whenever Metallica plays Load, Reload, or St. Anger stuff live these days, the crowd goes crazy and it sounds incredible live!
I.dont have a problem with bands going mainstream, why not? The problem is if the songs are good and if the musicians still care to practice and be better.
@maleexile9053 🤢🤮what a POS that train wreck was. Saint Anger was so disappointing. A Metallica album with no guitar solos? James has from day 1 always played ALL rhythm guitar parts on every record. So,what was the point of having Kirk on the record. Most people like guitar solos and again they screwed the fans. So, you have the last great record that they ever put out with no bass guitar at all. Another one with no lead guitar. It's just backwards as hell.
Dave will be bitter til the day he dies. Personally I think it was the best thing that ever happened as I regard Megadeth as the superior band. To a man Dave is definitely the most talented outta of em all.
I agree, as the years go by I appreciate Load more and more. When it came out I was 18 and hated most of it, but over the years I get more what they were going for.
Some great Metallica songs on both albums. I liked Reload better and both have some less than impressive songs but to dismiss those recordings is simply missing out on some great music.
I prefer Megadeth. Because I don’t believe if any of the other band members was kicked out instead of Dave, they would have the same success and impact he has and still does
I have a theory that there were people in the Metallica camp (mutual friends etc) who didn't want to fall out with Dave who were feeding him what he wanted to hear, also apparently Dave ran into the Metallica guys not long after he formed megadeth at a party at the suicidal tendencies house Mike muir said that everyone was pretty chill with each other. So it makes me wonder if Dave saw the potential for money with a potential feud so just fed BS to the press.
I will probably go with Metallica. When I try to be objective,I almost always end up picking Megadeth because of better consistency and having Rust In Peace in their catalogue, which is to me a perfect thrash album. But when I go with my heart, it's always Metallica. I know all their missteps,I know all their faults and yet almost every album has a song that reminds me,why I love this band. Hell,I often appreciate songs that people don't care for. So yeah, my cold mind says Megadeth and my heart says Metallica. I will go with my heart here
This video is basically just shitting on Megadeth, which is valid, but there are as many things wrong with Megadeth than there are with Metallica. Like it wasn't just Dave who had a drinking problem, James went to rehab like twice for several months just to get sober.
I think Metallica owned the 80s Megadeth was great but Metallica was epic Come the 90s and beyond Megadeth has been above par and consistent while Metallica has yet to inspire me with any album they’ve made post 1990 Was the black album good? Yes. But Countdown was better, and the rest of the Bob Rock era ranges from butt rock to being less enjoyable than a toilet flushing for 90 minutes. Are there missteps? Sure, but Risk has grown on me. The minute I hear snare on St Anger I question my life decisions in album choices. I appreciate Lulu over St Anger The saddest thing in all of this where Metallica is concerned is they now have one of the most talented bassists who ever lived and they still barely peak at decent minus Spit out the Bone If you listen to the first 4 albums Lars takes a lot of risks on the drums that pay off massively and Kirk really brings the solos. Since Bob Rock it feels more phoned in from those 2. My theory is they became huge with Bob so now they know they don’t have to work for it Slap Metallica on an album cover and you’re making money and getting the Grammy
I like it more MEGADETH. Until recently, I could not understand why METALLICA had changed since 1985, what was wrong with it. Been listening to Megadeth all this time, only now I understand why.
Personally i like when bands try something new (regarding the sell out topic) why would you want to buy an album that sounds the exact same as the last 3?
More Classic Songs: Metallica More Feeling Songs: Metallica More Good Songs: Megadeth More Technical songs: Megadeth In my opinion: 80's -> Metallica 90's -> Megadeth 00's -> Megadeth 10's -> Megadeth
Interesting video but I disagree with the last part. The last 2 Megadeth albums are more interesting and less boring than Metallica last albums which contain many long boring songs. Dystopia and The Sick...have more musical depth. They combine thrashy elements and aggressive riffs with some dark melodic surprises (the instrumental "Conquer or Die" or the ambient "Poisonous Shadows", the first dramatic part of "Dogs of Chernobyl") and experimental songs that cannot be considered sell-out like "Mission to Mars" which changes from a melodic hard rock to speed/thrash thunder instrumental part. The 2 last Megadeth albums are less predictable and more inspired overall. And of course the riff of The "Threat is Real" is by no means the same with the riff of "We'll Be Back" although they seem similar in the beginning. Even "Endgame" album which is considered the most explosive Megadeth album of the 00s has its atmospheric moments of unpredictability mainly with "The Hardest Part of Letting Go...Sealed with a Kiss" song (with its Edgar Allan Poe theme). "The System Has Failed" album has also aged well and contains similar elements of surprise.
Personally I like both bands. Both have some great albums, some really bad albums and some that are a bit hit and miss. Youthanasia was actually my first Megadeth album, and I still get a lot of nostalgia from that one. The black album was my first Metallica album, but man some of those singles didn't age well for me. never liked Nothing else matters or Sad But true, but Enter Sandman bothers me now. Saying that there are some really good songs on there. I like Unforgiven. Holier than thau is my favorite and Struggle Within and Through the never are bangers. At the end of the day nice work dude. I'm sure making these videos isn't easy.
@@shecklesmack9563 Yeah Holier than thou, Struggle within, Of wolf and man, Don't Tread on me are among my favorites. I do like Unforgiven and wherever I may roam. Oh and through the never. So long winded way of agreeing with you.
I prefer Metallica since instead of sticking to the same thrash metal, they experimented with albums like Load, The Black Album, S&M and St. Anger (though st anger is mediocre, the rest are bangers). Megadeth have made a lot of thrash metal bangers, but they can't ever match Metallica's impressive ballads like The Unforgiven, One and The Day That Never Comes. Even this year Metallica has proved to be alive and well by delivering some of their best songs like Inamorata and Too Far Gone. I've still got to say that Megadeth's newest album is also one of their best and tops 72 Seasons in overall quality. Basically, Megadeth is more consistent with their style, and for that reason I prefer Metallica.
[By the summer of 1998, while the band was still touring in support of Cryptic Writings, Nick Menza was having knee problems and sought medical advice. He was informed he had a tumor, which was later found to be benign, and had it removed. Rather than cancel any dates, Megadeth hired Jimmy DeGrasso as a temporary replacement. When the time came to record a follow-up album, Menza was not asked back and DeGrasso became the band's official drummer. Menza has said in several interviews that, while in the hospital recovering from knee surgery, he received a phone call from Mustaine that simply said "Your services are not needed anymore".] I think it's true what Ellefson said about him. He tries to get revenge on metallica by doing to other people what was done to him, but he doesn't ever feel satisfied because he can't ever get back at the people that wronged him. Its the classic cycle of abuse. He could probably get help and grow as a person but he doesn't think there's anything wrong with him because he's a famous and successful musician, and he's always been kind of a narcissist. At the same time, he always felt like Metallica beat him, that's why he never could forgive them. Even though Megadeth sold millions of records, had immeasurable influence on the genre, won awards etc... Metallica were more famous, more successful, and had way more radio hits. Hearing them play on the radio all the time would drive someone like Mustaine nuts. He wanted to prove that they made a mistake of firing him but he never could, they did just fine without him. I love megadeth with all my heart, its better than metallica by a landslide, but Dave is a fucked up person.
Why is everyone so surprised about how Dave handled being fired from Metallica? Dude created the greatest thrash band with the greatest music of all time. Dave is literally better than everyone in the genre up until 2000s era. But he’s only one man. Metallica went the distance though.
Great video. I really appreciate you pointing out that Megadeth could just as much be called "sell-outs" as Metallica, and that it's really only a speculative term. People also say Slayer never "sold out", even though Diabolus in Musica is pretty obviously aping nu metal and Kerry King himself compared it to Judas Priest's Turbo. It's really more about a certain perception of coolness.
I don't think your analogy works. I have no idea what beta is, so that would mean one band is utterly forgettable, but both are still well known. Is beta a dinosaur technology like VHS? ha, that analogy would work cos both bands are dad-rock groups from a far distant past.
very fair points but you did dystopia dirrrty, and the sick the dying and the dead too! though i feel the last megadeth album and the last metallica album both suffer from having intros t o o long, like boringly long.
Darn I liked the newer megadeth albums with exception to the world needs a hero and supercollider I have not listened to the sick the dead and the dying.
Love both bands immensely but what gets me is the years of hurt Dave had from getting fired, then turns around and fires so many bandmates from Megadeth. Great treatment 😃👍
I don't know the context behind the members getting fired from Megadeth, but just in case I feel I need to say that it's much different to be fired from a band that's already successful than from a band that's about to start and become immensely successful without you.
If Bob dylans voice is Sand and glue Daves voice is wet copper. In my opinion Megadeth has better albums overall but Metallica is definitely the superior live band, they make more of a show, unlike Megadeths stripped down "let's get to business" approach. Daves voice shrivelled up like a Raisin (now having the power and technical integraty of a Gordon Ramsay grilled cheese) and aged like milk on an exposed balcony on a south american summer while James became more refined and melodic (and kinda goofy I am sorry). I like both bands, Megadeth may be my preferred one but Metallica also has great songs, they feel more like a Team while Megadeth is more like "Megadave and Friends". Megadeth in my opinion has higher highs and lower lows, the worst of Metallica is boring and underwhelming but the worst of Megadetg is insulting and embarrassing. Good video and congrats for the 6000 subs
Dave once hilariously referred to his own vocals as "the sound of cats fucking". Anyone who knows what Dave sounds like understands this, whether they happen to appreciate it or not. Peak James vs peak Dave is no contest because James was probably the best "heavy metal" singer ever when he was at his best. He had really great soft or clean vocals and nothing beat pissed off "Dyers Eve" era James. That said, post the black album I can barely stand James any more than Dave. In fact Dave manged to edge James out for a short window there. Then Dave and James kind of found their new homes next to each other in bad singer land.
I was honestly thinking this was going to be a James & friends video, in which all 4 of them talk this "debate" amongst them after all the facts. I'm sure it'd have been a much longer video if that were the case, though i can imagine the fun jabs each would take at each other & both bands (& well the members/eras of each band too). In all of this, I'm more a Megadeth fan than a Metallica fan, however, like many others, i feel Metallica was most of our introduction to the metal world. It's only after diving into metallica's history & early days was i introduced to Mustaine & Megadeth altogether. I prefer Deth's songs & overall musical composition, but I can't deny Metallica had a lot of musical abilities to them too (with Burton being classically trained, it brought a huge dynamic in their first 3 albums which grew stronger each album recorded). That said, Megadeth is the only band of the BIG 4, i haven't seen. Metallica, again, was the first of the 4 i saw (during their Death Magnetic tour). & saw Anthrax & Slayer at Heavy MTL festival (Montreal, Ca. outdoor fest over a weekend), & i'm not a slayer fan, but being it was their last show before retiring for good, i figured what the heck. Will i go see Megadeth if they came to Montreal? Nope, was offered the chance, & passed on it. So i guess, even though i'm more megadeth than metallica, it's only slightly over the line. It's not a mile long distance between both. As meh & bored i am of new metallica, i can appreciate their continued fun of playing music.
29:00 youre not the only person to get this wrong, but its "hangar", not "hanger". one sounds like a military base, the other sounds like a person who covers up murders as suicides for fun xD.
It was the best thing that could of happened to Dave. Now he has his own band and it is just as good. The rivalry is a great marketing tool in this silly world. 😅 Show biz.
Honestly I really think a lot of it comes down to voice preference Might be a crazy take but if megadeth had a James Hetfield level singer they would’ve been bigger
Turning 49 today and I am a fan of both like you but lean a certain way. You did an excellent job reviewing both bands and all the things that happened along the way. I side with Dave, Garr and Marty.
Malcom Dome said it perfectly when he said "Metallica is as great as they are because of the sum of their parts, not because they are great musicians".
Master of puppets and ride the lightning are legendary albums but megadeaths rust in peace is a master peace. Mustang is a better technical guitarist than James but James is a better vocalist.
Honestly, I agree on most points about Megadeth and Mustaine. Although, I think The World Needs a Hero was a decent album. I may be a little bias because it was the first new album of theirs that I bought on release after I I got into them, and I got into them around the time Risk came out, but I didn’t buy that album until around 2001. I think it was actually the last of the back catalog that I bought. I also think that United Abominations and Endgame are both solid albums, although Th1rt3en is where I think they started to decline, with two songs being leftovers/rejects from the Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings sessions, and one song being something they wrote for a video game a couple of years earlier. Super Collider has maybe two decent songs, and one of those is a cover. Dystopia is a decent album, but it does use some recycled riffs. The main riff from Lying in State is basically Blackmail the Universe. And as for the last album, The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead. I honestly thought it was quite forgettable. And Mustaine is definitely an egotistical prick. Just read the Rust in Peace book and you can see how he holds his former band mates in contempt, even when he compliments their contributions.
If I had to pick or die I would have to say Metallica but I'm torn between.. I'm a big Burton and Hammett fan... there are both in my top 3 guitarist and bass guitarist
So i may get some flak for this, but i actually opened up to Risk. Lyrics wise it's more experimental in what Dave could explore and I'm surprised he hasn't done it again on at least one song in the newer stuff. Correct if I'm wrong though. The riffs do leave a lot to be desired but at least there's actual solos unlike St. Anger. Risk is an album i just pop in and let it play on repeat and help me reflect on life. St. Anger? Shit man you'd have to make me drunk to listen to it in full and even consider buying the CD. I genuinely can't listen to that album without wanting to bang my head against a brick wall in agony.
Both of these bands are a few of my favorite bands of all time. The Black Album is one of my favorite records ever. So is Youthanasia. I LOVE Master of Puppets. Also Rust In Peace. Also I don’t care: I like St. Anger and Risk. Risk has more variety but St. Anger has that raw sound. I love Hetfield and Mustaine equally. Lars IS one of my favorite drummers. So is Nick Menza. Both top 20 easily. Yes, this is like PlayStation vs. Xbox. Coke or Pepsi, but I owe these bands everything. I still listen to their records and I like the stuff that others don’t.
It's undeniable that Daves song writing and live performances made metallica what it was in the beginning. I sucks that they STOLE his material (which they 100% did) After Dave got fired and they used up his riffs the only decent song writer left was Cliff and once he died their writing quality went down hill after AJFA.
Cliff hardly write anything and neither did Dave. Why do people always try to credit those two with the first 3 albums haha Kirk wrote way more than cliff.
The money Dave has enjoyed by having writing credits on Metallica albums is never mentioned in any interview. Come on Dave spit it out, just how much money have you made from those early songs?
I love Dave's voice! Sweet Home Alabama is Dave's idea. I'm shocked you didn't know that. Musical sophistication isn't appreciated by the public at large so Metallica's approach is better received.
Scooped drops another banger. This was a great vid, but I gotta go with megadeth. While agree with a lot of the points about them getting very samey, 72 seasons was just not for me in the slghtest whereas i really enjoyed Sick Dying and the Dead. The first 4 albums from both bands are some of the best runs in music history
Always will be crossing paths between Dave and Metallica. Both bands are good. For me MegadetH is technically more advanced, more complex and MegadetH still thrashing.Try to sing, riffing, soloing in the same time. Kirk is high skilled guitarist that is no doubt.
Regarding the ending of 'Lying is Dave's business' where you say you haven't found any shit talking on Metallica's side towards Dave after he got kicked out: I remember listening to a phone interview from the 80's on RUclips with the band where Cliff says Dave can't play guitar, so that did happen. I also remember a comment on that video saying something like "Dave mourned and wrote a song inspired by Cliff after his passing, but I'm not sure Cliff would do the same for him." which I thought was interesting
Which band do YOU prefer?
Megadeth of course but metallica is really good

In hindsight I have to give it to Megadeth. The fact that Mustaine is still alive is miraculous. But those albums from 1988 to today hold up -- in like a jazz way -- and while Metallica's first 4 are phenomenal, they've had a near 30 years streak of meh at best.
I look at Mustaine like an addicted jazz musician/band leader -- brilliant, flawed, difficult, genius -- who managed to not kill himself and create some timeless complex but still approachable metal along the way and it's appeal had only grown on me over the years.
So Megadeth hands down the better band.

I have everything Slayer and Anthrax put out, but Slayer has more songs.
I'll never understand how Anthrax got into the Big 4. They were always too hair metal for me. I'd happily switch them for Testament.
Thanks for showing me "Almost Honest"... awesome song!!! Load is awesome too :)
The whole "Lars getting canned after the Master of Puppets tour" thing has some validity according to Scott Ian's conversation with Cliff and James that he states in his book, "I'm the Man".
Im proud of Dave, this video is trash.
Anger stuff live these days, the crowd goes crazy and it sounds incredible live!
yeah, its not sell out when you make your sound more mainstream and and not what you sounded before
I.dont have a problem with bands going mainstream, why not? The problem is if the songs are good and if the musicians still care to practice and be better.
Those are the weekend warriors that know nothing about metal, or so called posers
They sold out also you forgot the best Metallica song the view from lulu
@maleexile9053 🤢🤮what a POS that train wreck was. Saint Anger was so disappointing. A Metallica album with no guitar solos? James has from day 1 always played ALL rhythm guitar parts on every record. So,what was the point of having Kirk on the record. Most people like guitar solos and again they screwed the fans. So, you have the last great record that they ever put out with no bass guitar at all. Another one with no lead guitar. It's just backwards as hell.
“METALLICRAFT”
Dave mustaine kills James’s Minecraft dog
*gets banned by lars*
*dave creates *megacraft server*
*I meant James kills Dave’s dog lol
Everyone loves/hates a character, and Dave is certainly a character, it's part of what makes MegaDeth more interesting. Long live MegaDeth!
Dave will be bitter til the day he dies. Personally I think it was the best thing that ever happened as I regard Megadeth as the superior band. To a man Dave is definitely the most talented outta of em all.
Not a more talented singer, you are lying to yourself. Or lyric writer, but that's more subjective.
Load and Reload are good hard rock records I will die on this hill
Well, at least you're dead.
@@ScoopedMids💀
I agree, as the years go by I appreciate Load more and more. When it came out I was 18 and hated most of it, but over the years I get more what they were going for.
Some great Metallica songs on both albums. I liked Reload better and both have some less than impressive songs but to dismiss those recordings is simply missing out on some great music.
straight facts, Load > Kill 'Em All
I prefer Megadeth. Because I don’t believe if any of the other band members was kicked out instead of Dave, they would have the same success and impact he has and still does
Exactly what talent you mean?
Thats right just look at Ron. Dave have the vision and resilence to make it and gadamnn he fucking made it.
Watch Kirk play Megadeth and sing at the same time !! lol
Rust in piece front to back is amazing
“…the bass player..” LMAO Mustaine must be the pettiest, angstiest, holds-grudges-forever dude in metal.
for the past few decades, that is simply not true
I will probably go with Metallica. When I try to be objective,I almost always end up picking Megadeth because of better consistency and having Rust In Peace in their catalogue, which is to me a perfect thrash album. But when I go with my heart, it's always Metallica. I know all their missteps,I know all their faults and yet almost every album has a song that reminds me,why I love this band. Hell,I often appreciate songs that people don't care for. So yeah, my cold mind says Megadeth and my heart says Metallica. I will go with my heart here
Those leopard skin fingerless gloves with the tiger striped sleevless shirt @1:20...now that's metal.
This video is basically just shitting on Megadeth, which is valid, but there are as many things wrong with Megadeth than there are with Metallica. Like it wasn't just Dave who had a drinking problem, James went to rehab like twice for several months just to get sober.
Yeah but James wasn't violent, neurotic, and overall difficult to work with.
@@ScoopedMidsliterally within the first 5 minutes its incredibly obvious how biased this video is towards metallica 😹
I think Metallica owned the 80s
Megadeth was great but Metallica was epic
Come the 90s and beyond Megadeth has been above par and consistent while Metallica has yet to inspire me with any album they’ve made post 1990
Was the black album good?
I appreciate Lulu over St Anger
The saddest thing in all of this where Metallica is concerned is they now have one of the most talented bassists who ever lived and they still barely peak at decent minus Spit out the Bone
If you listen to the first 4 albums Lars takes a lot of risks on the drums that pay off massively and Kirk really brings the solos. Since Bob Rock it feels more phoned in from those 2.
My theory is they became huge with Bob so now they know they don’t have to work for it
Slap Metallica on an album cover and you’re making money and getting the Grammy
Megadeth is my favorite band. I saw them in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Love it.
21:35 I like all this songs, that different vocals, innovation is a good thing. Dave do what's he wants to do a he's a giant of metal for that.
Countdown reigns Supreme over black album.. Dystopia laid to rest who is better in the songwriting spectrum.. Megadeth takes the Medal (Metal) trophy.
Thank you. Even 72 Seasons was long and boring
I was JUST saying the other day that Kirk's solo in "Fade to Black" is his best. I didn't know if I was the only one to feel that.
More Classic Songs: Metallica
More Feeling Songs: Metallica
More Good Songs: Megadeth
More Technical songs: Megadeth
In my opinion:
80's -> Metallica
90's -> Megadeth
00's -> Megadeth
10's -> Megadeth
I have the same hat as you on your profile pic! I've worn it on all live shows so far!
They're not easy but people enjoying them once they're out is is all the motivation I need.
The best songs from the black album are all the non-singles (except The Unforgiven, that song rules).
Im fan of both , Marty Friedman put it best Megadeth is Dave's music no matter what but he still pushes through and makes his music
Menza has said in several interviews that, while in the hospital recovering from knee surgery, he received a phone call from Mustaine that simply said "Your services are not needed anymore".]
I think it's true what Ellefson said about him.
When will you create a Slipknot video? I love your honesty and your content is always worth watching. Hope you still create great videos, take care.
Bro I swear Remastered Risk- Prince of Darkness is so good
This is like comparing VHS to beta.
Oh this is gonna be good
Darn I liked the newer megadeth albums with exception to the world needs a hero and supercollider I have not listened to the sick the dead and the dying.
Love both bands immensely but what gets me is the years of hurt Dave had from getting fired, then turns around and fires so many bandmates from Megadeth.
Great treatment 😃👍
Yeah, good point. The guy is a major hypocrite.
Thanks, dude.
Great video....but one thing that was overlooked was there live shows....which would you prefer live?
I can listen to Metallica for hours. Megadeth. A couple songs every couple years and im good.
Im the same way just in reverse 😂
That could be interesting though I don't think Me, Caleb, and Nathan differ too much in opinion. And Drew isn't huge on either band.
ok good point , but does metallica have vic rattlehead?
29:00 youre not the only person to get this wrong, but its "hangar", not "hanger". one sounds like a military base, the other sounds like a person who covers up murders as suicides for fun xD.
English speaking people should know the difference
Megadeth wins in everything: Riffs, Solos, Drums, Bass, and even vocals (i love Mustaine's vocals for some weird reason).
Dave's vocals are underrated imo.
And Metallica wins with Soul.
Anthrax
Real
HARD Agree!
Anthrax has aged very well. They have the best drummer of the big 4 and they seem like good guys.
Anthrax is good, but Exodus deserves that spot more than them.
The sick The Dying and the dead smokes 72 seasons on every level
Like them both!
Excellent video!
Glad you liked it
I prefer Metallica but I appreciate your honesty, especially the one-sided war of words.
It's undeniable that Daves song writing and live performances made metallica what it was in the beginning. I sucks that they STOLE his material (which they 100% did)
After Dave got fired and they used up his riffs the only decent song writer left was Cliff and once he died their writing quality went down hill after AJFA.
Cliff hardly write anything and neither did Dave. Why do people always try to credit those two with the first 3 albums haha Kirk wrote way more than cliff.
80s - Metallica
90s- Tie
21st Century- Megadeth (Although Hardwired is one of my favourite albums).
44:02 hey dont diss silverchair pls apart from acdc its one of the only things we have in australia
There's better bands homie! I love The Saints, The Chats, The Church, Nick Cave/ the birthday party, dead can dance, and Divinyls.
Metallica's output has been pure garbage for 2 whole generations. Meanwhile, I still get excited for music from Megadeth.
Thanks man
19:54 metallica still refuses to give mustaine writing credits dude
Since when? He got his few credits immediately
Always will be crossing paths between Dave and Metallica. Both bands are good. For me MegadetH is technically more advanced, more complex and MegadetH still thrashing.Try to sing, riffing, soloing in the same time. Kirk is high skilled guitarist that is no doubt.
AYO i actually like st. anger the most (after ride the lighting , the best metallica album)
Cliff never said dave couldnt play guitar
