The reason you have an extra sword is that they changed the issue where characters leaving your party would take the gear they had equipped. They now refund the gear back to your inventory which is a good QOL fix IMO
Basically you got Leons gear refunded back to your inventory
Also green poison is removed after battle. Purple poison needs an antidote
This is because the 'Dawn of Souls' post-game content isn't included in the pixel remaster... I didn't realize this until putting in around 4 hours training Ricard up Ricard...

I'm glad Primal likes FF II as much as I do. It's not for everyone but I adore it. I'm looking forward to going through this with him. I got my FF I platinum last night. Time to knock out FF II!

I just played through it all the way for the first time and my god it’s a slog. It feels like they turned up the random battle rate to 11/10 for this version and it’s painful

It's been a longtime, man. I just finished FFI Pixel Remaster, apparrently I just maxed out my Gil and Levels by the time I got to the Flying Fortress because of the Boosters.
Planning to play FFII Pixel Remaster afterwards.

I'm way late, but i really love this game. It's in my personal top 5, and mostly because of the leveling system. I know, I'm in the minority but I enjoyed it once i figured out how it worked.
My first experience was 9 years ago with this one.

I believe your weapons are not leveling up because of a combination of the monsters being too weak, and you are not using the weapon enough times per battle.
So I'm totally new to FF. I played XV, loved it, got obliterated at the start of VII because I suck at timers+turn based, and I just finished I. Loved it, except Chaos was too difficult. Almost ruined my experience for the entire game. Now, with II, every new change confuses me. I saw Fynn was the first destination but the guards one-shot me. There's no way the game starts with a grind-fest, right?

just a note, if you do a full playthru with 4x attribute while also having complementary HP boost after enough battles, your characters will very rapidly approach 9999 HP by about halfway point or a little over in the story. the same will eventually happen to strength and intellect, they'll hit 99 without too much issue after enough hits have been landed per battle.
if looking to save time, leave it on, but if still want a challenge somewhere, i would turn it off.
even without the boosts FF2 doesnt have a challenge im afraid
such an underrated FF. never played this one, but I'm already enjoying it. just made to Kashaun (following a guide, but will wait for your's, Primal). I knew FFXI Online took from this (the weapon/spells skill system) and dialed it up to 11 (pun not intended.) so It's easy for me to just go with the flow. just like XI, enemies that are weaker are only going to level your weapons up to a certain level, then you need to move to a tougher monsters who can take more hits. use weaker weapons also to deal less damage and obtain higher hit counts. iirc you need to do the same amount of hits or more to a monster for your skill to gain experience? loved the FF1 guide bud, keep up the great work.
I heard the stat lowering thing from the original was removed in these remakes.

First time i played ff2 on nes i thought it was okay, first time replacing it on i think it was ff origins, ff1 and 2 for ps1 i hated this game, but as i got older i really like this game and the leveling.
Equip 2 shield and attack. Easiest FFII leveling.
They fixed the multi target damage for attack spells
God I hope they fixed the numerous bugs the steam version had
Do we have to level all weapons and magic for each character? Wouldn't you just want to assign each character one type of magic and weapon?
you can level up all weapons and spells or pick/choose for each character. I personally am going to level up all weapons/spells for each char. but also I started off putting Firion with a Red Mage, Maria is my Black Mage with some debuffs thrown in, and Guy is my Warrior with some support spells (haste, shell, and protect) since these spells are not affected by spirit/intelligence since Guy's are both lower then Maria's. also since the 4th char. slot is always filled with someone pertaining to the story throughout, It gives me a decent overall 3 person team. but overall you can level them all up the same. keep in mind though if you decided to say take a up as a Black Mage and then 4-5 hours in decided to change. You need to forget the spells you taught them (since each char. can learn 16 spells total) and rebuy the spells again for the chars. you want as a mage type. (for future ref.)
Looks like the boost and the no random battles aren’t on the pixel remaster for mobile. Now I have 2 versions of ff2 on my phone. Buying the pix remastered versions was a waste of money.
