" But if Steinitz played the best move recommended by the engine we would not have this most amazing game."
Another gold statement by Agadmator.
Me thoughts exactly. Pure Agadmator.
I love these old school games because these are some of the theoretical pioneers and they played real real chess, no memorization, no computers, just their ideas. Not that today's games aren't also beautiful chess is always beautiful :)
The lack of punctuation between beautiful and chess disturbs me.

@@terranloudenback2102fuck that
"He didn't resign,he just left the game" lmao
The most impressive thing about Steinitz is that he was the oldest player to ever win a World Chess Championship at the age of 58. He was also the second oldest at 55, third-oldest at 53, fourth-oldest at 50 but he has to tie that with Botvinnik who was 50 himself.
He was younger than Paul Morphy, but did not become world champion until after Morphy's death...
Eni Gjinaj: Heart break hurt the most
Agadmator: Have you ever seen someone Declining Evans Gambit?
Eni Gjinaj: No
Agadmator: :)
@Eni Gjinaj Ok
@Eni Gjinaj Alright the hint is Evans Gambit tell me you get it come on
Wtf
Agadmator is fine with Evan's Gambit declined, the pain stems from the Evan's Gambit, unoffered variation where white continues with c3 or any other move.
Chess: the final frontier. These are the tales of the agadmators chess. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new movements, to seek out new lines and new combinations, to boldly go where no rook has gone before.
... the Neutral Zone being the 4th and 5th ranks I assume?

Is it from Grenke? That tournament now is back on the board, but with a shield in the middle and SOP for the players to follow.
@@arrowghost Benter series, online.
Didn't Aronian loos he's family in a car crash?
That would ether make or break a player. I bet he lost him self to chess, chess now occupies 99% of brainpower.
Btw, Harry is a horcrux
@@azorthegreat2112 He's a super GM and his wife was also a high level chess player so his life was basically always devoted to chess. The loss of his wife in the car crash was tragic and hopefully he is dealing with it in a healthy way.
Those evans gambit jokes though😂😂😂
"I didn't want the applause to disturb the other players" sounds suspiciously like an excuse Bardeleben made up afterwards.
I just read this game from some other source and i immediately looked if this great analyser had made a video about it!.
Too me this is the most beautiful game ever. This beauty of the rook walking horizontally and then should go back all the way is incredible. Steintz is very underrated today. It's not for nothing that he produced the most beautiful masterpieces of all times. I sae a few of him. All are pure gold
A great game to revisit time and time again. Of course, the legend of "Von Bardeleben storming out" is one of those classics of chess literature. Great that you took the time to explore it, and the article of Winter (probably the most respected authority in chess history nowadays) is very interesting to put things in full context.
Regarding the game itself, it's another of those sad stories in chess in the catalog of "One side didn't castle". Poor Von Bardeleben probably thought that he could hold the position by trading everything and keeping the King on f7. But, it turned out that White's development was overwhelming once the rooks got into the game. A true classic game, and thanks for reuploading it: it is indeed the bravest rook in history.
Had he castled then Steinitz could have time to make an escape square for his king. And both sides go on. It's a whole different game. Might interesting, might not.
@@PaulDeCamp Indeed. It was the XIX Century, and the chess principles weren't completely discovered in those days. Von Banderleben was a decent chess player, but he botched the opening. Steinitz, one of the main founders of Modern Chess Theory, grasped the chance and took him to town.
One of my 10 favorite games along with the Evergreen Game, the Rubinstein Immortal, Fischer's Game of the Century vs D. Byrne, and Fischer's Immortal game vs R. Byrne and a few others.
Hope everyone is well today!

One of the Top Best Game i have seen on your RUclips Channel. Bravo !!
Great choice for a redo. Even thogh I've already seen the first video of this game I still enjoyed every moment of the game and the story behind it.
What a great show, thank you!
One of the best games I've watched. Thanks Agad for bringing it to us.
Love these type of videos with history involved
Completed Chapter 1. Great work Agad👍🏻. Looking forward to Chapter 2
Brilliant game ! Great story telling Agad, thanks for sharing this with everyone.
Thankyou so much agad. This video was amazing :)
This was so tantalizing, all black needed was one tempo to deliver checkmate, but never got the chance!
By far my favorite review from Agad! Absolutely beautiful 🔥🙌 not only the analysis of alternate lines but the history behind this masterpiece and also providing the supplemental material to back up the validity of his narrative 👏 what a wonderful time to live in 🎉🤯
Warning, letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban.
This man can't literally get over Evan's! ❤️❤️ Best chess content!
You are an excellent explainer.Hats off to you.I have improved my chess knowledge very much.Thank You!!
It's 2023 and it's still a beauty and it will always be. First recorded rage quit in chess can be traced way back to 1895.
White was just one move away from getting checkmatted. Amazing game👏👏👏
It's brilliant how you study the history of these matches. That's a great story about Steinitz.
Btw, "betimes" is archaic, it just means early. The word appears often in the King James version of the Bible & has a bit of a literary feel to it. It's just a little more exact than early, with a slight extra connotation of eagerly, perhaps. Love your videos, I'm catching up on them, only recently having come across your channel.
The Immortal "OH, NO! MY ROOK!"
This has to be one of my favourite games seen in a while... wow!
That dislike is from Bardeleben's ghost.
*"He didn't resign, he.just left the game."* ... And so began the age of *rage quitting.*
Greco gambit
Yesterday itself chess talk explained this wow
When I saw this game at my home ,In the end I applaud for steinitz as he deserves it . 😊😊
Everyone has or has had a Madame Bowles that just pumps you up and motivates you to go for it all
Bardaleben left to avoid applause. William shows the variation and gets the applause anyway.
Bardaleben: Am I a joke to you?
The truly good stuff!
Amazing, simply amazing. One can't just love chess enough.....it keeps you making admire the beauty of it
Thanks for the link for chesshistory ! I like the many different points of view they show. And the naughty rumor of Bardeleben's divorce business :)

A huge difference you made, not only 60fps, your voice is also more appealing than the last video.
Completely lost it at the evan's gambit joke. Gets me everytime.
I don't even had to pause the video, I know this game by heart! I love this game, especially the forced continuation (after black resigned) leading to a beautiful mate!
In my top three for sure, a masterpiece.
The mighty beards of both players fill me with joy.
Thanks
Funny story... just today Chess Talk made a video on the Greco gambit and Agadmator features it on his today’s video, too.
Back then people could still hug each other, but they were too stiff to do it. Now we have The 'Rona.

As a lecturer, I consider this an examplar tutorial video. Morphy head for you agadmator.
I assume Steinitz was and old man in 1916. I have seen this game many times and never cease of amaze me.
I still like the thrumbnail of the original video with the rook dressed in a superman cape, but this video was pretty good. Thanks for the update. Background information good to know.

#suggestion Game of the Century remake 60 FPS, it would be great
Absolutely love the bot in the bottom corner
I look forward to the Paul Morphy opera match remastered, my next favorite match after this one. Hopefully got more stories behind it and maybe showing more move variants like what if Morphy took the rook as a Butcher's move.
What a Rook!
To think his opponent couldn't cease the mate in one!
You know you're a long term sub when you saw the original when it first came out!
My first true touch of Steinitz class
I could totally picture Morphy getting irritated by the applause and reversing the move order to give away a game to his opponent had that happened.
Bravo!
Really nice to see Fritz in the bottom right. Best character so far
wow, nice camera for 1895
This is the Golden Year of Agadmator, brand new content, a new webpage, approaching the Million Subs mark, and remake from the good ol' stuff. Been following you for 2 years and I'm glad to see how much you have improved and you're receiving the recognition you deserve!
I don’t know how you balance all the communication you must now receive Antonio. Perhaps you could ask RUclips to fund you some staff? I think they’d agree given the refinement of your channel.
I loved this game and think I’m only starting to appreciate the aesthetic of particular tête-à-têtes.
Say " Welcome to the good stuff " every time
Ben Finegold talks about this game a lot, just to show the beauty of it or more likely talk about the ending as he enjoys it

Let's make sure history never forgets... the bravest rook in chess history.
-Captain Jean Luc Picard
Bravo bravo Antonio
So that's why it is called the Bravest Rook in History!
Incredible how the Rook keeps checking, but you can never take it!
Re walking out: when choosing between the truth and the legend, print the legend.
That was really a brave rook 🥊
Agad, "betimes" is archaic English and means before the usual or expected time, or early. So she woke up earlier than usual that morning. And in case you were also wondering what was meant by "I was waiting with a buttonhole, which I pinned on his coat", a buttonhole is a boutonniere, or small flower or bouquet worn by a man in the buttonhole of the lapel of his dinner jacket or coat.
How about making a remake video of "the greatest question in the chess history"?
Super amazing game!! lol~
Pronunciation of the name 'Bowles' is as the word 'Bowls', not as b-owls, but as 'beau' or 'b-oh' as the lead phonetic.
'Betimes' is an old-fashioned word meaning: before (the usual or expected) time.
Bardeleven: aight imma head out
#suggestion Paul Keres vs Miguel Najdorf 1955 Gothenburg Interzonal. Very nice attacking game in the Najdorf Sicillian.
Just WOW!
Isnt this the game that naroditsky showed charlie when preparing for pogchamps? Beautiful game btw
Great
Ah yes , the steinitz mad rook.
When Agad recalls that Steinitz lost his champion title one year ago.. things are for certain going to be spicy!
I can spot 13 opening variations associated with the players on the player list of the final tournament standings. How many can you find ? thanks for showing it. Who's this Emmanuel Schiffers maybe we can name an opening after him ? Great work.
