    The fact that Rubenstein's immortal game with a queen sacrifice as well as a rook sacrifice just indicates how famous this victory should be cause look at that bishop pair slicing like scissors and with a modern approach this game should be considered a minature!

      There is no real ‘fix,’ but if you ever want to hear something by someone who knows what you’re going through, i’d recommend her music. her song ‘october sky’ in particular is dedicated to her mother.

    One thing to like about chess history is that it all remains current. Basic rule changes to the game happened in the very distant past, so we can examine positions just the same as any era. The only rules chess has moved ahead from olden days with are the introduction of clocks, three-fold repetition, the 50 move rule, and other minor regulatory facets not directly in conflict with the game's classic structure.

    • @augustedupin9576
      @augustedupin9576 2 года назад

      Yes, and it is just amazing to see how our understanding of the game deepened over the years through the insights of the earlier masters. Modern engines have kind of killed that process. But hey, if you are not a professional and just an enthusiast like me, what's better than enjoying classics like this one.

    • @misternewoutlook5437
      @misternewoutlook5437 2 года назад

      @@augustedupin9576 Yeah. Engines have put finality on everything. But for a couple of obscure puzzles, they have solved chess in the everyday sense. This does take away our own deductions and mocks the commentaries from the masters and authors in the old chess books. Sure, it's fun to explore those errors with the engines, but again, that finality puts any further arguments to rest.

    The move Rh3 by Rubinstein seems to equal Marshall's Qg3 which was showered with gold coins . Rubinstein should have contended with Lasker for the world championship title but he did not have financial backers . Curiously , both the players of this game suffered from mental illness in their final years . Or , in Rubinstein case , he hid in a sanatarium faking illness to escape the Nazis .

    • @felixcortez7604
      @felixcortez7604 2 года назад

      Rubinstein was certainly mentally ill. In fact in WWII he had been put in a sanatorium by his wife. One time a nazi came to see him and asked him if he would like to go to a concentrationcamp.He replied with: Yes i'd like that very much. The guy concluded then that he really was crazy. He had a difficult time in that sanatorium and was desperate to get out. Rubinstein was very lucky then

    The problem with the Morphy game even though his opponents consulted on the moves and he didn't have sight of the board as he was watching the opera, is the fact that Morphy was the strongest player in the world at that time, a GM (which the title did not exist yet). These 2 opponents were not even mediocre club players at today's level. Of course Morphy was able to toy with them. Great games have more appeal when the opponents are also strong players.

      Actually, the proper Polish name of that city is Łódź. To guide an English-speaking person on how to pronounce it, I would suggest a sequence "woodzhi" or "wootshi", certainly NOT "lodz". Yes, the Polish language is bizarre sometimes...

    • @dulekt
      @dulekt 2 года назад

      @@jansupronowicz1300 Łódź yes sorry, but in Croatian we would write and pronounce it as Vuđ

    • @jansupronowicz1300
      @jansupronowicz1300 2 года назад

      @@dulektThat well may be, but not that many people (including me) know Croatian and for English-speaking individuals the letter V might suggest pronounciation like in "velocity" rather than in "wind". Which would be wrong, because Polish Ł is always pronounced like English W, never like L nor V. Hvala!

    5:00 if you notice, in this position, despite being black, Rubinstein position was as if he played 2 extra moves. And that's probably why the other masters disliked that Qd2 move so much

    Funny thing. In the 1958 Soviet Chess Championship, In the game Geller vs Krogius, the position reached up to 18 e5 was the same as In the game Rotlewi vs Rubinstein, but with reversed colors!. Geller instead of 19 Rac1 played e4 and won In the ending.

    At 5:11, after 15 moves, the position is completely symmetric (!) apart from the black developed rook and the black having the next move, which means white lost two tempos up to the moment.
