One of the biggest what-ifs in history is if Morphy had computers and advanced theory to work from with his pure natural understanding of the game. He probably would have been the greatest player in history given how little time he had to seriously work with the game and the low level of competition to truly refine his skills.

Great video and great selection of Games. I'm a Newbie to Chess at 52 And only just learnt castling correctly.... sort of anyways. Memory rather poor these days.
Haven't watched many Chess games and only of the past GM's. Haven't watched any of the modern players at all.
Paul was a natural Chess genius. Watching several of his famous Chess games, it seems that Booby Fischer was heavily influenced by Paul's strategy and method of play, namely attacking.
From my rather limited knowledge and observations, I personally believe that Paul, Sultan Khan and Bobby Fischer are amongst the top five GOAT Chess players.

It's amazing that Morphy had only a limited number of chess books to study from (if he did at all) but yet develop chess theory himself. He was just 12 in this game, and would sacifice pieces to checkmate. Most players do not want to sacifice a piece, but his extraordinary calculating and creative play makes his games very excting to study. He was the best of all time.

So these people created this new engine that was insanely powerful and good. When they tried to play it against the master, he had already died just a measly few hours before. The castling checkmate never happens because no one is stupid enough to march their king all the way to the other side like that. smh. You can only do something amazing in chess if your opponent allows you to do it by making the wrong moves.

If you play for fun, nothing is stupid. He was playing his uncle.
By your logic, Morphy was the stupid one for starting off with one rook

:40 how can we know those moves were actually played by a 12 year old vs his uncle back then? Surely neither of them took the time to write down each one's moves? At that age, I don't see why either would write all those moves instead of just play the game and have fun.

They sure did. Morphy sometimes would write down his games days after playing them. He remembered everything

2:20 uh... can we not say "mated him"? Can we keep it the longwinded way and say "checkmated him"? I don't like to think of a 12 year old mating his uncle especially in a beautiful way. Thanks.
