- In this follow-up from last week I go over the types of games I love to play most on Steam Deck. Some of these are PRETTY broad, but for the most part games I enjoy the most on Deck are those that are either well suited to its power OR the handheld format in general. IF you have any personal favorite genres or sub-genres to explore, I'd love to hear about them :)

Xbox 360 and PS3 era games run incredibly on Steam Deck, you should all try them out. AAA gaming was not invented yesterday. There is so many high quality titles out there that will blow your mind!
Also last gen is great I am currently playing doom eternal and split second
It's been a while since I've experimented with PS3 emulation but I'll give it another shot sometime :)
I'd really like to play Split/Second at some point!
The dead space series is an example of that!
Totally agree with you, getting a Deck reminded me how much I love indies.
Right? GREAT for exactly those sorts of titles :)
Good stuff as always, Steam thanks you for my ever growing wish list.
Appreciate it, dude, and more on the way :)
I’m playing Skyrim at the moment. It’s perfect on deck! Do a quick 20min dungeon pop it on sleep go back when you get a minute, sort out inventory… it so good!
Skyrim is great for all occasions 😊
Skyrim is just a tremendous chill game to get lost in :)
The Deck is such a beast for that 6th/7th gen sweet spot.
I really love GC and PS2 emulation on mine.
Most definitely! I woulda lost my mind back in 2001 or so if you'd told me I'd be playing the original Luigi's Mansion on a handheld one day :p
I remember freaking out at the prospect that I may be able to play Final Fantasy 8 on my DS. Wound up being FF3, but it was still incredible. The fact that we can play 360/PS3 Era games better than original hardware on a handheld is glorious.
Absolutely love your content. Random question... Where did you get that shirt? I love it!
Appreciate it dude and more on the way! As for the shirt, it's from Into the AM! Here's an affiliate link to where you can get it on Amazon - amzn.to/3SLtcLN
Some great examples of genres that can be played on the Deck! But in my opinion, some players put too much importance in graphics fidelity when playing video games. Like you mentioned, 6th Gen action games run perfectly fine on the system and look great, so I think that for more recent releases, they should focus more on gameplay than what it looks like! Because the draw of the Deck is to be able to play a metric ton of games on the go! Great video and keep up the good work!
I agree- Like I love a pretty game don't get me wrong, but I don't need top-tier quality visually to enjoy something. Probably why I didn't bat an eye at NEARLY finishing Witcher 3 on the Switch!
Just took advantage of spring sale for the deck. Got Tony hawk 1-2 & midnight fight massacre!!
I keep wanting to try midnight fight massacre! Maybe I'll pull the trigger during the next sale :)
Ohh man it’s soo fun!! Yea for $12 not bad at all
The System Shock remake has been a ton of fun playing on the go. It's digestible, spooky, unnerving, and gets me in a mood that I don't get playing it on a big screen.
I still need to play it! Definitely love Nightdive Studios work :)
Have you tried 'My Friendly Neighbourhood'? Love these videos, keep up the good work :)
Nope, but I'll go add it to the wishlist right now! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos, dude, and appreciate the encouragement :) Oh! It has a demo! :D
Have you tried Traveller's Rest? Fits the indie bill, early access following with development and the laid back simulator category. Controller friendly and rock solid on the deck.
Nope, but I'll look it up now, particularly because I'm working on a new 'Viewer Suggestions' video! Already it looks like a cozy choice and I like the idea of just being the best innkeeper :p
There is one advantage of the Steam Deck that is often not discussed which is the built-in controller. Some Windows/PC versions/ports such as the Final Fantasy games, LEGO games, and NieR:Automata are notoriously hard to play without an Xbox controller because these games feel like they're aren't designed to be played with a keyboard and mouse. Due to this, these games are more playable on the Steam Deck and other handheld PCs than on a gaming desktop or laptop. Conversely, the aforementioned games actually make the Xbox controller very useful even to those who prefer keyboard and mouse.
Oh that's a good point! I hadn't considered that but you're right, despite the flexibility of keyboard/mouse some games just are NOT fun to play that way. Yakuza also comes to mind.
Going very much for games that just work well on the deck right now, and that's Bullet Heavens (Yet Another Zombie Survivors, Pathfinder : Gallowspire Survivors), Metroidvanias (The Last Faith), boomer shooters (Prodeus, Warhammer 40,000 : Boltgun) and deck builders. Had a 4 hour round trip on a train to London this weekend, and played Monster Train the entire way there and back - not only is it perfect for travelling, after 2 hours I still had over 6 hours battery life left on my OLED. The way to get the best out of the deck is to just understand its limitations, and I agree older Xbox 360 era AAA games are also perfect on it.
I try to zero in on those as well and I DID play a bit of Yet Another Zombie Survivors sometime back! Prodeus is VERY slick as well. I still haven't tried out Monster Train but it's on my list!
Just FYI, Dave the Diver is not an indie game. It was developed by a team at Nexon.
Doh! You are correct! Serves me right for making the assumption but I bet that tripped a lot of people up :p
I like playing racing and Indy games on the deck. Also, emulating older games.
LoL I was going to a video explicitly ON racing games, albeit arcade racers since that's my personal favorite when it comes to car games :)
@YourPlayer2 I'm working on a sitdown racing arcade cabinet using mame and other emulators. It was a Sega GT cabinet, empty when I got it. Right now, it has an old gaming pc, 27 monitor, and a hori race wheel.
I was playing like 5 games at once but since Palworld came out i havent touched any of them i am addicted
Hehehe I think that happened to a lot of people!
man i miss detroit!!!
also I never heard of echoes of the living hmm looks like that one game that came out the one daniel played for us when you came by! i forgot the name
omg cozy games! have u tried that one game . its like a plant game. its beautiful! i. getaddicted to it so much. its called garden galaxy!!
I'm really enjoying it so far!
Echoes of the Living gonna be a solid love letter to Resident Evil methinks but yes, very much like Tormented Souls which ITSELF is getting a sequel soon!!
Which plant game?! Oh Garden Galaxy- nope, but I'll look it up now :D
Have you played Tandem A Tale Of Shadows? It’s got a great Victorian horror/Alice in Wonderland atmosphere and it’s a fun puzzle platform game with an interesting twist.
Nope, but I'll certainly look it up because that sounds like exactly the sort of aesthetic I'd appreciate!
Can someone create a list of all games mentioned? As a non english speaker it was tough to grab everything during the video lol
Should be in the video description with links to Steam! :)
What's the game right before Signalis?
I think it's Vampyr from Dontnod.
Yup, T1tan is correct in that it is Vampyr :)
💥
What is the game at 4:01?
That would be Forager! :)
The deck can play anything which doesn't require shooting. I suck at shooting with a joystick. 😅
LoL I feel ya- I mostly prefer sticks but I’m not super competitive when it comes to my fps experiences or anything. If I WERE I’m sure I’d prefer mouse and keyboard by far
minor criticism but could you display the name of any games you show footage of? something that i might be interested in but cant figure out what it is because its like a 5-10 second b roll and no title.
If I can! Generally I put the main games and links to Steam in the description :)
I thought Sleeping Dogs was unsupported on Deck? Anyway thanks for the video!
It runs perfectly, lots of games labeled as unsupported still work perfectly on the deck I would say more do than don't
@@johnsducks9816 It's similar to how a number of games on Steam (such as Saints Row: The Third, many RPG Maker MV games like Lawmage Academy and Didnapper 2, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy) tend to say "Partial Controller support" but otherwise work fully well with Xbox controllers. Yeah, there are some games that use a launcher, require enabling the controller (Fallout 3/Fallout: New Vegas and Dead Rising 2/Dead Rising 2: Off the Record), or require the keyboard to enter your name (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim). Regarding partial controller support, the one game I know of where controllers are partially supported is Minecraft Bedrock. The game supports Xbox controllers but some things like entering text (used for signs, chatting, and entering commands) don't work on controllers
Technically it is, but it plays quite well in my testing so far! And you're most welcome, Yog- hope you've been well! :)
@@YourPlayer2 I am well, thank you!
@@YogBaal Glad to hear it!
Cool vid but i hate you
Many thanks! I think?
You use a lot of words wen explaining, try to use less and lower your speed pls ❤🙏 you have a lot of good suggestions I take over so also keep up the good advices in game suggestions ! Thx for that.
Appreciate the feedback, dude! I'll try to slow it down a bit in the future :)
