Both houses & cars have become too expensive for most Americans these days, most especially for single people and/or single-income households. Even a lot of 2 income households can't afford them.
This issue has been exacerbated by the practices of insurance companies, which can have negative effects as well. Some insurance companies may contribute to rising prices by providing coverage that encourages risky lending and speculation. Additionally, certain insurance policies can be expensive, making it even more challenging for families to secure affordable properties. It's important for individuals tor consider diversifying their income streams, independent of government reliance, as a wise approach in the current situation.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day invt decisions being guided by a invt-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using a invt-coach for over 2years+ and I've netted over 1.5million
Yup and they are all built in Mexico, talk about quality control... Only a fool would waste that kind of money on a vehicle with low quality and short durability.
@@michaelm8754 no doubt. Toyota's quality degradation is already starting to rear its head. If they keep it up, Toyota will be in the same boat as Ford in 3 years.
Only an American will not be able to control their impulses, pay way too much in an overinflated market and then say "they did this to us". No buddy, you did this to you
They'll put themselves out of business first. A lot of cities are going anti-car on top of that. They need to make more small cars for cities but nope.
Problem is... its almost impossible to reduce them by 50% at this point... INFLATION increases have not only made such reductions basically mathematically impossible (not impossible, but highly highly unlikely), but has also WARPED the average consumer's perception of what "value" is and what the inherent value/price/cost of basic products and consumables should be. Overall, I'm hoping they can at least reduce it by a quarter or a fifth or so (since half is basically impossible)... so, instead of an $80k truck, it'll eventually drop down to ~$60kish as a "good" or decent deal (which would have been ~$40kish a decade ago)
We looked at a Grand Wagoneer Series III. We ended up buying a 2024 GLS 450 4matic with a MSRP well below the Series III. The MB actually had more options we wanted. The MB dealer also gave us a good discount from MSRP even though the one we liked had just arrived and another person was interested in it after we looked at it. The MB dealer was first class. No games or gimmicks. They offered a really good financing option. In the end, we decided to pay cash. The MB dealer was perfectly ok with it. At no time did they try to back out of the discount or become angry. Conversely the Jeep dealer was only willing to offer a $5,000 discount. The Jeep dealer also tried to stick it to us with financing. They became angry once I told them I was a cash buyer; hence they were not going to make a huge profit on the back end. Well, when you try to offer someone a double digit interest rate when I know for certain I am Tier I, you lose all credibility and respect. I hope these types of dealers go out of business.
@@nicholasy2715 The MSRP was 106.7k. Thankfully there were no dealer add ons. OTD I paid $108k. This included all fees and taxes. The total tax where I live is 7.8%.
A buyers market? Really? Even with the discounts the cars and trucks are still tremendously overpriced. Nope, not a buyers market,,,,,,yet. Maybe next year.
The market it turning but we are not there yet. Let them sit. Dealers are still playing games with financing, fees and the old bait and switch. The best one is the $3000 fee for carpet and seat protection.
Yes, everything is overpriced, but even more troubling is no attention is paid to quality. They use cheap materials, etc. I guess car manufacturers think they will get away with it.
I'm shocked at the quality issues new vehicles face. So many little issues on newer vehicles that are costing owners a lot of money in repairs. It's not just one brand they all seem to be effected by it. Not only are you paying more for a vehicle, but you are getting a vehicle that is lower quality, costs more to repair, and will experience more frequent breakdowns than a vehicle made just 10 years ago. When comparing that vehicle to when it was new.
@@nicholas1987ucsb I hate all the plastic trim new vehicles have. That stuff gets faded out in just a few years and starts looking bad. Airpark is one of the worst offenders in the Valley. They are barely marking down Wranglers, instead attempting to steal the manufacturer's rebate. Yet, vehicles continue to stack up on their lot. I tried on two separate occasions to take one of them off their hands and they would not budge. But, as their salesperson said, "It's a buyer's market" so I just went elsewhere leaving them to fend with their overstock.
I went truck shopping last week at a few local dealerships. It’s sickening that they are asking 70k for an F150 XLT. 100k for a Hellcat Charger. 135k for a TRX. When will they get a clue that people can’t afford these vehicles?
@@BeefGummybears Only a fool would do this...I know, I know. There's a lot of them around unfortunately. Just wait a few more months folks. The stealerships are hurting but not enough yet. Soon enough though. Floorplans are doing their damage but it just began. Give it time.
It blows my mind all those cars in the overflow lots. Thats a massive payment on their Floorplan every month. That should tell you how much they must make on each sale
I rented a Chevy Colorado for a ski trip last weekend. First time in a Chevy and I was absolutely astonished how cheap the interior was. I drive a base trim 2011 Hyundai Sonata and that Chevy made my interior looks luxurious.
I've found the Colorados to have very pesky electrical problems. The front brakes are also a masterpiece of general motors engineers malice and idiocy. Like Cadillac overall, I'd suggest colorados are an excellent example of why to avoid GM as a rule.
In a sane world, it wouldn't be considered a low price. But we no longer live in a sane world, now, do we? Let them rot on their lots. Maybe they manage to get their $2.5k "options" when they send them to junkyards.
I am so happy to see people not buying Corvette C8s. Big slap to dealerships. Most importantly, people are uniting to take a stand against their greed.
Forget about the CEO's and do what's best for yourself. Not paying these outlandish prices and waiting, if your able, is prudent. The stealerships are all deep into their Floorplan. Every month is another payment for each vehicle on their lot to their lien holder/bank. It has not been long enough. A few more months and even into next Fall/Winter and you will be thanking yourself. Patience friends, patience.
Did this today. I unintentionally wasted 2 hours of the salesman's time trying to get me into a new payment. I ended up leaving after $700 was the best payment they could do on a lease for a grand cherokee. I didn't feel bad at all. I will email them tomorrow with non-negotiable terms for my out the door price. If they want it, they can call me. I'm in no hurry to spend an extra 20k.
Here in FL i spoke to two different dealerships last week regarding 2 seperate cars. One told me they won't budge on the price (used) the other wouldn't budge on a lease (new). So they obviously weren't in desperate mode yet
TRD Jon bought an SR5 Tacoma for like 53k. That's not including taxes or 9% interest on his loan. I damn near fell out of my chair laughing at these prices.
Zactec is a polymer based application that forms a cohesive film, which resists detergents, salts, and ultraviolet rays that can affect your vehicles painted surface. And they want you to have it re-done every 6 months, haha, no thanks. I also do not need a dealer overcharging me for wheel locks, if I want wheel locks I can get them myself for way cheaper than they charge. Not to mention, I have been driving new cars for 45 years and never once had my rims stolen, so unless you live in a really bad part of town, wheel locks are a total rip-off.
I don't see how anyone can afford a vehicle costing 50K and higher. Everything costs a fortune now. Spend $100 in the grocery store and buy very little. Some states like Florida, home owners insurance is 6K a year if they can even get the insurance.
You are spot on about quality. 2022 quality dropped substantially and designs went South as well. Example: Highlanders going to 4 cylinder engines in 2023. There is not one single new vehicle I would buy regardless of price.
I see the dealers are still ignoring the consumers. That scat pack is ridiculous 😅my 2020 hc widebody wasn't too much more than that. And it has every option except sunroof. The markups has to go. they are not really getting the laws of supply and demand. I say we put them in macroeconomics 101 class at a first year college level. maybe that will educate them. then again maybe it wont.
@subaruamazon if people(the smart ones) keep holding out dealers will have to learn or go bankrupt. U still have the ones that just gotta have that new vehicle no matter what it costs. Those people are what still gives the dealers hope and a fighting chance.
@nchellcatbadboy3625 Yup, completely agree. Just too many morons around who just gotta have the latest n greatest regardless off price. They can have that $1200 month payment n choke on it. No rush for me. My 2000 Yukon XL looks n runs great. Been paid off for a long time. I'm due for a new one. Gonna pay cash for a Denali as a retirement gift to myself. However, not at these outlandish prices. I'm happy to wait anyway because the quality on these current models is horrible. 2026 - 2027 is when I plan to strike. Prices n quality will be better. These stealerships can eat shit and go belly up!
I used to work at a Pontiac dealership, and want to share a few "DO NOT" things while shopping for a new car. Do not pay for dealership add-ons that were installed without your specific written permission. Do not pay the dealership for dealer prep. Do not pay the dealership to do their own paperwork. All of these things can very safely come out of the profit they are making on the sale of the vehicle. Car dealerships can mark down the price for you at the time of sale between 11%-15%, and still make an impressive profit. One more thing, DO NOT discuss finance options until you know, IN WRITING, what the exact final price is....dealerships really hate it when you do that, but you can always spend your hard earned money elsewhere. They might not make the profit they want by selling a car to you, but if you walk out and spend your money at another dealership, they don't get ANY of your money. One last thing, do not allow sales men and women pressure you into buying a car. If I feel enough pressure, I walk, bye!!!! I'm not spending their money, I'm spending MY money. GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Thank you. I am test driving Chevy Traverse this week and was wondering how much off MSRP I could negotiate. I will shoot for the 11-15% you mentioned. I went to Kia dealer today and they quoted me 13k above the MSRP. At first I thought he quoted me the wrong vehicle because it was so outrageous. Kia is just too hot of brand right now so I am going with more low key brand like Chevy who hopefully works with me.
All these companies what to make their brand a luxury brand. Got news for them they Ain’t! New Vehicles Quality is Declining. I saw a Grand Waganeer with 2K stop working seriously a 90k vehicle. Before buying a Mustang EV check how much the depreciation is.
I resigned from being a car enthusiast. The price of them forever turned me away. Coming from a guy who has bought 10 brand new cars and 2 brand new motorcycles, that says a lot.
no, Toyota just transferred the vehicles to other locations, of course a few sales occurred, mostly inter dealer transferred, this a ruse to indicate their vehicles are selling, it’s all about the optics, all dealers are doing it, not just Toyota.
This is correct however, it's amazing how many fools will FOMO because of this, and then pay the ridiculous price. Better them than me...Stealerships + Fools = Dumb❤.
They need to put some QR codes on the windshields so you can just scan it and takes you directly to the online listing. Instead of navigating the website to find it.
I remember when i could order the "special" car from the factory and pay MSRP. Also those accessories they put on there, I told a dealer once to take them off and I'll buy the car and they gave the accessories to me for free.
They produced less, and what they did produce was the highest end models to maximize as much profit as possible. Corporate greed over consumer need at it's finest.
As long as they keep selling, then the vehicles aren't overpriced. You would think they would run out of fools at some point but apparently, no, the supply is endless.
Couldn't agree more. Look at how folks drive...angry and/or stupid, that's it. When angry & stupid waltzes into a stealership it's ❤ @ 1st sight, for BOTH!
My wife has a 2020 rav4 hybrid and she bought that brand new for $26,000! The price on those cars have gone up $10,000 for the same model in 4 years! That’s insane!
There are an enormous amount of used cars you can get around $8k that still have a LOT of life left. You can fix all of any problems it may have with less than 6 car payments. Most older cars made around the 2000s tend to be more reliable anyway
yep. 100% agreed To me, 70s, 80s and 90s marked probably the best quality in carmaking (thinking of W123 in particular). From 2000s, quality trickled down, in my opinion, but, particularly, 2008 and ~2020 both marked points where quality really went downhill (where carmaking went out the window and the only thing that matters is the profit).
@@BarAlexC well we advanced the most around the 90s with direct fuel injection and a few other things. Cars are considered to peak around the 2000s and drastically get worse after around 2015

I have a 2015 IS350 F-sport RWD in matador mica red that I bought at the end of 2019 for ~$23k before everything went all screwy in the auto market. I bought it as an "in-between" car, as my then 2006 WRX wagon was in constant need of repair or maintenance and I was sick of needing to get a tetanus shot every time I worked on it, so I sold that to another enthusiast. The Lexus has 66k on it now, the past ~4.5 years of ownership have been oil changes and air filters, one brake job, and I put an aftermarket set of wheels & tires on it, I'm putting an aftermarket spoiler on it this weekend as my 3yo has instructed me to. The IS was also my first Automatic transmission vehicle that wasn't a winter beater, and my first "luxury" car, so it was also a good "test" scenario. After 4.5 years, I can tell you, I would still prefer a manual transmission, as well as a much lighter car with less luxury & less insulation. A Toyota version of this car with no moonroof, manual seats, a 6mt and about 400lbs less weight would be epic, but would never happen. Yet again, there is nothing on the market I want, so I'm probably going to end up running this thing into the ground, or buying a 2020 IS350 F-sport RWD in the color combo I want and running it into the ground, as that's the last year before the most recent refresh where it got bigger and gained another ~150lbs, it also has a mechanical LSD, power folding mirrors & some other quality of life improvements over my 2015. I did test drive an IS500, but that's a 4,000lb car that stickers around 60k at the low end, I don't want a 4,000lb car that stickers around 60k at the low end, but if I were getting a 2021+ IS it would have to be the IS500, because if I have to haul around that much car, it had better have the power to do it. I toyed with the idea of a CT4V-BW, 6mt+RWD, but I didn't like the V6TT in the prior iteration (ATS-V) and that is also a 4,000lb car that stickers north of 60k, and it's a GM to boot, so not exactly a long term ownership item. I also toyed with the idea of a 2nd gen GR86/BRZ as a second car, but I don't want a Subaru engine in my life every again, especially not one with oiling issues.
When see Add On’s at a dealer runaway. And with any dealer pick a car then do all negotiations and document signing remotely. A key strategy for all these dealerships is for you to spend as much time there as possible to wear you down this evening. Includes when you get to the finance department your only way around this is to do everything remotely.
Spoke to my Mazda dealer that was selling their service loaner Mazda 3 with a few thousand miles on it, they tried to sell it to me for more than what a brand new one was listed as. I told him I'd take it if he dropped the sell price another $5k. He threw a fit at me and I walked out lol, not sure what these guys are thinking at this point.
They're also making the wrong vehicles at the wrong price points. Toyota has like 8 different mid-size SUVs, but only 2 SUVs with 3-row seats. You can't even find most of the vehicles you want with the lower/mid packages--a lot of them also still have dealer upcharges over MSRP.
toyota is unto its own. same with honda. demand is really shown by a toyota dealership. no cars. Gm ford and dodge could take a lesson. people like toyotas because they are bullet proof reliable. that is lost on the big three.

Consumers should walk in the dealers with "market adjustment" discount of 20-50K and have them swallow that pill. People should not pay these prices and they will have to lower prices or go bankrupt. Capitalism at its finest.

Yeah that's what they said about housing during the recession. Inflated prices that were 3 times normal only dropped maybe 25% and Never went back down to normal again.
So dealerships get free “flooring” for a limited amount of time. This is the manufacturer covering the interest owed to the bank that is loaning the funds to have inventory. From what I hear flooring is being extended, however it won’t last forever and the dealers must sell units to cover the loan and interest. We will see massive discounts/rebates by the end of summer. By this time next year we will see prices close to what they should be or better.
Same thing happend in the 90s. Everyone wanted big SUVs and trucks. Gas was cheap. After the 2008 crash, fuel prices hit $3/gallon, small cars flew off the lots.

Toyota dealer in my area, still had Tacomas with dealer markup. After going back and forth after getting them to come down to invoice, I asked them to take an additional $5k off, equal to what the dealer markup was, i tried playing the same game they did, needless to say I was not able to negotiate that lower $5k offer
Here in Napa California, Toyota sells very fast and have mark ups. My local Ford dealers showroom is full of Shelby mustangs with 20-25k mark ups, I asked a salesman about why, he said they buy other dealers allocations for around 5k over since most people don’t buy higher end cars in other parts of the country, and in the SF Bay Area so many people do. They sell almost immediately. This is when they were new of course.
As an aside a new tract house here is 1.6 million, but vehicles are the same price in areas where incomes are vastly lower compared to here, so to most California residents it’s not too crazy, but I won’t pay over!
@MrGmilton I refuse to ever pay over MSRP. I even have a problem paying $500 over "invoice", I feel the dealers can make their money on financing and service. The worst is these days dealers are adding that junk crap like nitrogen, paint protection packages, key fob insurance, even before you can say no. So they just build it into the price of the vehicle.

Wait to buy if you can. You'll know when dealers are really ready to get serious. 75k for a jeep is no discount. A loaded Ram in 2016 was 48k. Todays loaded Ram with rebates and discounts is over 74k and was previously 89k before discounts. Marked up to mark down is no discount.

Everything needs to drop 50% if they wanna get 80% of the population even considering a new vehicle
They'll put themselves out of business first. A lot of cities are going anti-car on top of that. They need to make more small cars for cities but nope.
or home
Try 60
50% isn't enough. The prices are completely off the rails in US/Canada.
Bottom line prices need to be cut in half

The Overflow inventory would say otherwise. Nobody's going to buy these things at that price.
So much plastic trim on the exterior and now the interiors are all cheap plastic. Huge downgrade in only a few years.

Kia is just too hot of brand right now so I am going with more low key brand like Chevy who hopefully works with me.

To me, 70s, 80s and 90s marked probably the best quality in carmaking (thinking of W123 in particular). From 2000s, quality trickled down, in my opinion, but, particularly, 2008 and ~2020 both marked points where quality really went downhill (where carmaking went out the window and the only thing that matters is the profit).

As a consumer, donot buy it, they will have to sell it for half the price, just wait and watch. 😊
Hope you are correct.
Who rembers when new cars were 20-30???? anything above that was luxry
I remember when cars were 2-5!
Same thing happend in the 90s. Everyone wanted big SUVs and trucks. Gas was cheap. After the 2008 crash, fuel prices hit $3/gallon, small cars flew off the lots.
You could not give me anything with Chryslers name on it! They make some of the worst vehicles on the market! And still think people are going to pay these out rageouse prices!!
anything new.....Mopar vehicles from the 60s and 70s with that 225 slant 6 are very reliable
Oh wow....I can get $5k off an $88k truck.....lol....
Almost a 100k for a Tahoe , that's horrible. All truck prices are horrible .you can't even buy a decent size car in the 20s . Just keep what you have an make it work.
Isn't Obidenomics great! 😂
How’s that clown Trump going to change it. By making you feel better?
Trump was just as bad
I live in Florida. Not only are the prices on those vehicles outrageous, but auto insurance in Florida is so sky high now that you wouldn't be able to afford to insure any of those vehicles. None of em. So if you live here there would be no point in even looking at these vehicles on the lot. Even if the dealer reduced a $76,000 car down to $50,000 you still could not afford it.
I got my first car in 1967. It was a used 1950 Ford sedan. It cost me $100.00 and lasted for years. We don't need all the extra added features. It's a hustle.
I bought a newly built house for $72,400. in 1990...can't imagine buying a truck for that.
In the UK the ticket price includes the add ons.
No one ever pays the ticket price.
Sell8ng my lifted 2011 Silverado soon and getting an old used vehiclewith lower milage. I refuse to pay these crazy ass prices for a new truck. My truck sold for $33,000 brand new in 2011. Ridiculous!
These prices are waaaaaaaaay too high!!
My wife paid $18,000 for her new Honda Civic back in 2004. She only paid $2600 to replace it with a new Transmission and a warranted Engine with only 50,000 miles on it. If more people would do what we do, the prices of new vehicles would plummet. Keep in mind I'm a professional Asian, Domestic, & European Automotive/ Truck Technician.
That's a lot of money I've always taught my kids that part of the payment is maintenance insurance and plates and gas prices just get something good on gas get you to point a and b make memories and experiences you can't put a price on that you don't live in your damn car and it's a bad investment
I wonder how many dealerships - new and used - are going to shut down in the next 2-3 years. No one can afford these prices, and even if rates went back to 0, they still couldn’t afford them.
1/2
We got lucky on two new cars we purchased in December. One new Limited AWD Prius 2024 at just below invoice without any add-ons. Had to drive to OK to get it. Then purchased a 2024 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy AWD and was below invoice with a few add-on's that they wife made them take off! 🤠👍
Mc Lovin you are crushing it! You should’ve ask the salesman about the dealer mark-ups. The discounts could be taking off the mark-up. Which means zero discount. It’s really cool you are going across America to check out other dealers! CrUsHiNg it!!
I would say...most people can't afford to pay monthly payment over $800..and insurance premium is crazy too.
They didn't get rid of all their 2023 Tacoma's, my Tacoma dealer was the same, they literally shipped back or around their stock to other areas of the country, they didn't suddenly sell their entire 2023 lot in a week. They were flush with 2023's, then gone, now only dripping in a handful of 2024.
I just signed for the cheapest Corolla Cross awd L trim 2024, 28K out the door , 7% apr , its ALOT of money for that car but here up north , there's nothing available in the lot. And old crappy cars that were 2-3k before are now 7-8k... I feel robbed but I'm tired of having to deal with mechanics that charge 120$/h to work on my junker.
Zaktek is an aftermarket paint sealer/protectant. They're probably putting it on because the cars are just sitting there, collecting dust and tree sap.
And it's AZ. The sun is murder to paint out here.
I am driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla and I have no plans to get a new car until prices drop substantially.
Not only the prices but the interest rates! U can put $15k down on a 50k vehicle and it’s like barely scratching the surface! You’ll still pay about 700-800/month!!!
I got lucky to get my RAV4 Hybrid. Amazing car. There is a waiting list for them. Our local Toyota dealership cant keep anything on the lot but trucks.
Its all the dishonest pricing theyve been doing
My concern is prices and interest rates are not inline with national incomes
When you see that a dealer add its own accessories that you didn’t ask, like tint windows, all paint protection, catalytic’s itching, lojack and $5K markups…leave ASAP !!
2023 RAV4 hybrid owner here, just to confirm that Totyota does put crazy addons on their RAV4s, if you see a Toyota with blacout emblems, black exhaust, roof bars etc, on a brand new RAV, it means it's an addon for sure, now most of them are shipped with these option by default to squeeze a few more dollars from you.
Stellantis QueefBeast V5 engine gets all the attention. A must buy!
Makes my 68k ct4 v blackwing look like a bargain! Feels good.
