I work at the largest dodge/jeep/ram/fiat dealer in the state of iowa. I work in the collision center and we had a big dealership meeting where the gm said they had 55 million dollars in new inventory and are paying 7% interest on them and how they need to sell them hahahaha. Then they sent salesman to go around to all the other employees to try and sell us new vehicles, i straight up told told the salesman if they took 30k off the trucks maybe I’d consider buying one. I remember before covid you could get into a brand new ram crew cab 4x4 for 40-50k now they are 70k+ just 3 years later no wonder they can’t sell shit

This is how I see it, now is the time for the consumer to dictate how much they are willing to pay for any vehicle. These manufacturers have huge teams that do market research to ser how much consumers are paying. They'll know how low they need to go in order for us to start buying cars again. If everyone would hold the line and not buy at these prices I can almost guarantee you that average prices for trucks would come down to $40k. That's why prices are coming down so slow, they want to see how much they can gouge us for and still make the most profit from us.

Those prices are insane to me. I bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 10 years ago with 78,000 miles on it for $6.000. I paid it off in about 18 months, and I have been driving it with no monthly payment for about 8.5 years since it was paid off, and it still runs good with 168,000 miles on it. It has the 2.5 four cyl engine with the 5 speed. And it is good on gas, I get 20mpg in the city with it.
I can not even imagine paying $75,000 for a truck, that is more than my Fathers house is worth. He has a 3 bedroom 1 floor 1 bath ranch style house, with a garage and it was valued at $65,000 last year. It is not a mansion, but it is a nice little house for a family with 2 kids.
I can not even see myself going to a bank and asking for a $75,000 loan to buy a truck, that is just crazy to me. The cost of living here is pretty low, and you can get a nice small house for $60,000 to $80,000, so the thought of paying $75,000 for a truck is just madness to me.
I personally would never pay more than $40,000 for a truck, at the most. I got 10 years out of my current truck and it only cost me $6,000.

Great review! What is shocking about Ram is across the country you can find NEW 2022 Ram Trucks, roughly 12% of total inventory. On top of that an abundance of 2023's as well. From a business perspective this is asinine. Both the dealers and manufacturers need to discount deeply to find a pricing level to move this inventory.

I was reading an article on the 2024 f150 and how the king ranch was priced 10K over the 23 model. It also was saying how all trim levels are going to be priced higher. Ford made the digital dash and 12” infotainment screen standard on all trims. So yeah, I don’t see much changing here. Prices will continue to increase. Instead of making changes to get prices to drop they went the other way to increase them. They are using the excuse that everybody is ordering their trucks with all the bells and whistles so they have decided to make them standard.

Its good that people are getting smart and stopped the inflation insanity and price gouging.

New truck prices are still insanely high. I felt ripped off when I bought a 2020 4WD used with 40K miles, but in excellent condition 18 months ago, but the same pickup new today is double the price that I paid for the used one. The dealers in my area are not offering any real significant discounts on most new trucks, but their lots are overflowing. The price crash is coming, but is not here yet--it will be. Many new car dealers today are surviving only because of their service department business. One dealer in my area laid off nearly all of their salespeople, but have hired 5 additional mechanics--people are repairing the vehicles that they own and the service department is always backed up 7-10 days on appointments, even with the extra mechanics that they have hired.

Prices have gone up on the used F150s in the last couple months. I’ve been looking for a used 2017 or later Lariat with under 60k miles for months. They are still well above $30k. I seen a couple drop into the high $20s around Christmas. But now back up again. MSRPs up against for 2024. My days of owning decent low mileage vehicles is over. Insurance premiums have tripled for us in Florida in the last five years as well. I’m going to find a beater and just do my own maintenance.

In everything since 2020 we keep hearing “prices will have to come down” yet they’re still selling vehicles, houses, etc.
They just going to high prices and low volume vs lower prices and higher volume to stay in business.
If people buy all these things and overextend themselves it may happen again though.
