Great review Brian, and for that price, sad that HD is set up the way it is, and probably with my setup, would need to order monitor arm mount for it. It's tempting though but a bit out of my price range for the moment. Still love the review.
I respect a reviewer on basis of how they are critical of a product, and to that end, I'd like to express my compliments. Its too easy to just shower praise after praise, its the negatives that could often be the deciding factor.

Come on guys, all the HDRi modes can be used without any auto-adjustement to the brightness from the moment that you turn the BI+ off. It took me several minutes to figure it out. But I couldn't help myself thinking "the dudes there at Benq make too good and well designed products to mess up on that practical feature... " => Turned BI+ off and boom, all the HDRi modes are now prrfectly usable + you still can adjust brightness and contrast, for 2 of themat least

Thank you for touching on the editing side of things. All the reviews seem to be for gaming and I couldn't find one that talked about video editing. How does the Bluelight Filter affect the color, if at all?

Brian, you're one of the people I am counting on to keep an eye on MicroLED / OLED advances in the monitor space. Please please please take up the opportunity to review any new products using this tech. Man... it's taking freaking forever to get there. So frustrated with the stagnation in pixel quality in the monitor market.

He's probably just gonna recommend some decent bookshelf speakers like the JBL 305P and not bother with soundbars (and I'd agree since soundbars are extremely overpriced and not that great sounding).
Smashing review. The price is a little bit of a barrier but BenQ do have another 32in version about £90 cheaper than this one. Keep up the great reviews.
I joined the discord for audio and everybody suggested the 1990s. I ain’t spending $500+. I couldn’t wait for another two months on a video so I went with other youtubers headsets and Amps Couldn’t be more happy with what I got. Idk it seems like everything you recommend I’ve bought and hated, could just be me I’m 5”11 220lbs. I have a high end monitor but I’m not spending a price tag and a half for HDRI.

IMO this would make a good bedroom TV replacement, say this due to the fact we're running a Samsung Non-Smart TV in the bedroom (I was shot down for wanting to use a 55 lol).

It's clearly a jack of all trades, master-of-none monitor and for casual gaming(like he emphasized), 60Hz is still adequate.

Regarding the HDR options. Is this all an emulated HDR? Or can it accept an HDR signal from another source like a PS5?
Dude, the the dimming thing only happens when u choose one of the 2 HDRi modes and not the basic display HDR mode. Only use the display hdr mode(without the i) if you don't want auto dimming.
I was wondering if you placed some black tape over the sensor would it still auto dim? I'm going to try it out later
@@ayyjayy5018 I didn't try because I only used Display HDR which is the default HDR for this monitor and the rest of the HDR modes are Gimmicks in my opinion. They just give you a gimmick choice. I would just stay with display HDR which should not trigger the "i" feature. Besides the other 2 HDR modes are over saturated. The true problem of this monitor though is the backlight bleeding, which is the reason to why I had to return it.
@@TheEgyptianOne I got it on a price error, paid 243 canadian taxes in. I don't think any amount of backlight bleed will make me return it lmao. I didn't even need it, I had a 27 inch LG UD58 IPS Freesync panel already, I just couldn't resist the benq sidegrade @ that price.
To stop hdri auto adjusting you have to find the camera that's capturing ambient light and put tape over it
According to BenQ, you CAN turn off auto-dimming. Turn off "B.I."
I've owned it for a week now... you can't turn off auto dimming in "display HDR" mode, but you CAN in the other two HDR modes, and being as the profiles seem to be infinitely adjustable, it's easy enough to not use that mode and get the others the way you like, or turn off HDR altogether when it doesn't apply. I'm loving the monitor so far, none of the cons have come into play for me. Maybe I'm just lucky. The USB-C charger built in may be its best features. And the dedicated speakers are good enough for 90% of my media consumption on it. The way my desk is is set up, I don't need any height adjustment or swivel adjustment. Tilt is enough. At least for now. But in the future you can always buy a VESA compatible stand that adjusts however you want and mount the monitor onto that.

Hi - When using the EW3280U 4K Entertainment Monitor with HDRi Technology | BenQ with my MacBook Pro 2018. I have my monitor connected via USB C. When I go into the monitor menu some features are greyed out: Brightness, Colour Mode and Colour Temperature. When I connect the monitor to my Windows 10 Desktop I see those features. I thought this monitor was fully supported by Mac? I am running macOS Catalina v10.15.7. How can I resolve this?

No monitor in this day and age should be 60hz, not even the productivity ones. Even TV's are coming in with 120hz since 2019.

High refresh rate isn't important for every user, not even every gamer. Would i like these displays to be cheaper? Most certainly, especially since im in the market for one.
$800 for a HDR400 (aka fake hdr) 4k 60hz monitor and basic $30 2.1 soundbar build into the monitor. It's impressive how unimpressive this monitor is. The review was great as always Brian very informative but meh product, although I could see how it'd be decent in a dorm room.

True hdr is over $1000, you get what you pay for
$800 for this? C'mon now. I can get an Acer nitro. Which has everything this has plus some, including 4k 144hz. Ips, 1ms rp. AND it's got gsync support. And it's $100 cheaper. I would say this is just embarrassing to advertise at this price range. Sorry for people who actually purchase this.

@@Jedrasification xb273k or the xv273k. Both 4k @144hz with two display ports. Ips, 1ms response time, both gsync compatible. Absolutely love this monitor!
