From what DMS was saying, it sounded like you were slowly turning until you heard the enemy in the center of your screen. I wonder if it would be more effective, with regards to getting a better sense of the soundstage, to have the aimer try to flick towards the origin of the noise. Then, the aimer could also adjust from the faster motion after judging the initial movement.

I've personally been very pleased with Hifiman's HE400SE. It's affordable at around 100 USD, reasonably well built, and sounds great. It's the cheapest over ear planar magnetic I'm aware of. That being said, the earcups while lovely and deep do get warm if you're in a hotter climate, and it does need a bit of punch to drive due to the lower SPL. But the open soundstage and distinct planar bass really sets it apart in that price range.

Zeos is dope, my go to for a unique take on things compared to everyone else who tends to be same same on opinions. I am not an audiophile, but a gamer. My previous headphones which is more affordable was the DT880 250 Ohm. Now I use the DT1990Pro, which is a straight upgrade from the DT880.
For a mic I use the Modmic5 for a long time now.
There is also a reason I don't use any headphones/mics with any kind on knob or dial or button, they tend to fail very early on.
I had ALL! mics and headphones/headsets fail on the volume dial/mute switch (including the Modmic5, but that switch was optional), making them near unuseable after just 1-2 years. (especially Sennheiser, used many of their gaming headsets back in the day). And the funny thing is, I barely even used these dials/switches. I use the windows volume/mutes.
And I do care for my headphones. I place them either on my head or on the stand and thats it. No throwing or placing them down hard.
Bluetooth headphones also have some lag in them, but some people just can't notice it.

Finding your channel back in 2021 was actually a "game changing" experience for me. As someone who used to game on with soundbar audio wanting a more loud, explosive, "cinematic" experience. I can say that after I purchased a set of PC37X along with a DAC, I can't see myself playing any other way. Weather it's multi-player or single player. Although I miss the explosiveness and vibration from a sub, I much more prefer the details with the headset. Also the great thing about open back IMO is not being completely shut offf from the world. I always like that I'm aware of my surroundings, and living in a rather "loud" house, by no means does it affect my gameplay negatively.

After looking at Audeze Maxwell videos for over six months, including BADSEED's video, my wife ordered me some from Crutchfield. While they do sound incredible, both ear cups now make the annoying scratchy sound if I touch the cups or move my head.
It all started the moment I hit both my ear cups lightly out of frustration when the USB CONNECTED voice came over at 5X the volume of what I was listening to. It made me jump and gave me adrenaline. I did find the voice volume setting in the app after that and lowered it significantly but it deserved a good smacking for scaring me.
Ever since that moment they have the very well documented (on forums) annoying scratchy sound. They still work and sound great....as long as I don't touch the ear cups or move at all which is kind of NUTS to me for $330 with tax.
I did purchase then return the Steel series top of the line headphones first:
-their pc audio app did all kinds of bizarre things
-the ear cups were just too small
-the built in noise cancelling mic was too close to my ears
-ear cups made my ears over heat

After spending a lot of money on headphones and IEMs, I learned two things. The DAC matters, but doesn't need to be expensive like the Topping DX3 PRO. I prefer IEMs over Headphones due to weight and nothing on my head. IEMs are only as good as the TIPS you add to them, and this can be challenging at some point (they sound completly different from Tip to Tip). After spending so much money, I now add wireless earbuds. Why? I'm getting annoyed by cables, the weight and I like the Transparency mode of Wireless Earbuds for calls or if I want to understand waht's going on in my flat. Will try out Apple Airpods today …. But don't think they work due to latency.

i've been using the audio technica ad1000x for over 8 years and they still freak me out with how open and immersive they are, i also got a sub woofer at some point and the amount of times i take my headphones off to make sure the sound wasnt in my house is crazy
i did recently get into iems and i get the hype, you just hear everything, even though its a lot harder for me to pin point the locations of the sounds, great for games like cs or valorant but not my favorite for something like tarkov

i kinda have to disagree in that my top pick for "money is no object" headphones is for sure the $5000 Yamaha YH5000SE. I mean, if money is no object, its extremely light, just as wide of a soundstage as the HD800S but does not suffer from its thin, bass/sub lacking sound profile. Its stereo positioning and separation is far better as well; this is mainly important for differentiating separate audio cues such as gunshots and footsteps when coming from a similar direction. its obviously 3x the price but it very well deserves the spot if no budget is considered in the first place imo

I have had really good luck with 660S which is close-sounding but excellent sound separation and accuracy, and the Hifiman Ananda Nanos, which offer more bass/subbass and a bigger soundstage while still having excellent accuracy.
I noticed a lot of options with bigger soundstage will not have the pinpoint accuracy and so in some games like Valorant it will become a bit vague exactly where someone is, even if you have a general idea of the direction.

Hey Badseed Tech, happy to see Maxwell's pop up few times, I also exchanged quite a few ones and the level of audio you get in Maxwell is unmatched from what you get from competitors. Is indeed a little heavy, but you get used to it after few days, really. Not that big of an issue. The software is working well, absolutely no issues with them whatsoever! I do recommend them as well. They work very well for music, movies and gaming! I was hoping to see some good feedback from Crin but that left me without a comment :)), I wouldn't follow his friend's advice at all. I wonder how the Maxwell's stack up against the DT770(80ohm)'s. Penrose sounded darker and wasn't able to resolve the same level of quality.

5:03 - more people need to do things like this.
Not just with headphones but all kinds of products.
Come up with a practically relevant test, that is as close to scenarios in your favorite game as possible and then make it quantifiable.
Repeat the test several times with the respective products until you have a large enough sample size to compare them objectively. Then draw your conclusion.
So many times we simply try to justify a new purchase because we wanted to treat ourselves, have spent a lot of money or just like the look or image of a product when it's not objectively better than what we used before.
Goes for mice, mouse pads, keyboards, DACs, headphones, monitors, pretty much anything.

honestly I feel like good sound in terms of media you consume and good sound in terms of competitive games are very very different.
it depends on the game of course but rule of thumb is the most important thing to look for in a headphone from a competitive standpoint is NOT footsteps or soundstage (unless you’re playing a soundwhore game like siege) because if you are good at the game you play you will have proper map awareness and it will give you no advantage if you’re GOOD
what you should look for is not only seperation but also muting (in a fast paced game)
the advantage a good headphone should give you is being able to have clearer audio for utility (most shooters) and abilities (hero shooters) so that you can have a proper understanding of what’s going on and that you can act faster on an opportunity (overwatch example: being able to tell clearly when ana has used her sleep dart without seeing it and without her voiceline triggering is an advantage. knowing where the ana is based off of her footsteps isnt and hearing gunshots LOUDER is just literal noise pollution)
so unless you’re actually good you shouldn’t care about an advantage and your idea of an advantage in games is probably flawed so just go with something comfortable that suits you in terms of sound profile and features.
the gsp 600’s are the best headphones for me in game but in any scenario that isn’t competitive I use either my thieaudio ghosts because they just suit me very well and my crusher ANC2 because they’re FUN.
find a headphone that suits you and your usecase instead of focusing on soundstage and footsteps and all of that because you can hear footsteps accurately enough out of any headphone that isn’t muddy or SHIT
