  • Weeds in the lawn are awful! Stop weeds before they even have a chance to grow and take over! In this video, I'll be applying a pre-emerent (prodiamine) to the lawn. Its our first application of the 2023 lawn season. Enjoy!

    I have bare dirt, “top soil” that I’ve been racking rocks out of and then mostly clay. I live in north central Arkansas. I have a bag of tall fescue K31. I’m wanting it to be thick grass like your yards. Any starter tips

    I did a total reno with TTTF 5 months ago. What are your thoughts about using a pre emergent with a fairly new lawn?

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Год назад +2

      Should be good. I just completed a renovation too at the end of last season. So long as the roots had time to develop, you should be good.

    Great info! Do you have any recommendations for broadleaf weed pre-emergents?

      @TheLawngineer  Год назад

      Prodiamine covers a fairly good amount of broad leaf weeds. Also check out Dithiopyr.

    Thanks for the video. Wondering if you have an annual schedule of activities. Like, do you only overseed in the fall with Milorganite and such, or do you do it in the spring too? In addition to the pre-emergent do you do other "feedings" or fertilizer throughout the spring and summer? Thanks!

      I fertilize about 4-5 times a year. I’ll be putting down my first application soon (probably next week). Next app is around Memorial Day, then 4th of July, Labor Day, and just after Halloween. I use different types of fertilizers (keep following along and you’ll see). Grub treatment will be coming up soon too. I also monitor for disease and fungus and try to take preventative measures (sometimes an application) to avoid getting into trouble. Other than that, frequent mowing and keeping the lawn properly watered. For special occasions, I’ll put down an Iron treatment to get a boost in color. I also use bio stimulants like seaweed/kelp and humic acid applications.

      @@TheLawngineer Last weekend you noted that you would soon be doing your first fertilizer application. I am on Long Island and I have started my season by doing the lawn raking process from another video. Ground temperatures not ready for the pre-emergent yet. Should I fertilize and if so, what would I be putting down? Thanks!

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Год назад

      @@jameswidmer6972 I didn’t put anything down yet. When soil temps hit around 55 degrees, your grass has 50% growth potential and is a good time to fertilize.

    • @TheLawngineer
      @TheLawngineer  Год назад

      @@jameswidmer6972 what you put down should be based off a soil test. But a general all purpose 10-10-10 should be a safe bet if you don’t have a soil test. A soil test helps you dial in the nutrients you need. Some lawns have high phosphorus… in cases like that you would want a fertilizer without phosphorus (just as an example).

      @The Lawngineer I've Poa Annua, which I know will go away by the end of May. I want to treat with pre-emergent in the fall. Maybe Barricade .476, but I always overseed in September. Can I do both? Do the Barricade like 8 weeks after the seeding?
