I'm considering pre-germinating my tall fescue seeds. Would warm water be better to use in the bucket?

You suppose to mix with a carrier like milorganite. KBG is small seed, & pregerminated & spread with milo.

@@farquadshmoogle9120 Yes, I discovered that after the fact and discussed it in my Pre-germination Tips and Lessons Learned video. Thanks!

add milorganite or starter fertilizer that is dry and mix together to be able to spread.

Great tip, thanks! I have seen lots of different opinions about using fert as you put the seeds down or after. Glad to know this works. Don’t forget to like and subscribe if you liked what you saw!

@@MrShankfu I just got some after you recommended it. I have heard about it, but never really looked into it. I like that you can’t burn your grass with it. I’m going to do a video explaining all about it soon. Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already.

@@LowcountryLawn I just literally did mine yesterday I've been doing it like that for years when I use Kentucky bluegrass because it takes so long to germinate and it saves me on water

@@MrShankfu Good to hear. I think I’ll give that a shot when I put down more seed in the spring. I just posted a video about the lessons I learned from doing this. Milorganite was one of them.

Wouldn't wet grass seed be hard to spread by hand or with a spreader? The person is only creating a lot more work for themselves! It seems like the only way to plant grass seed is when it's dry, right out of the bag. In reality, grass seed is not going to germinate any faster than what nature will allow it. Besides, what's the hurry about growing grass? When it comes to planting fruits, vegetables, flowers, trees, plants or whatever it may be, vegetation takes time.

@@slimdude2011 It was very hard to spread. See this video

to see how mixing the seed with Milorganite seems to work fine in a seed spreader, even when it’s wet.
People may want the seed to germinate faster because they are using a slow growing seed like Zoysia. I also think pre-germinating leads to a higher percent of the seeds eventually growing.

Michael, glad you enjoyed the video so much. As I’m sure you read in my channel description, I am not a lawn expert and am just documenting the things I have done. Some went well and some didn’t. The end goal being people learning from the goods and bad.
I’d be happy to check out any videos you have on pre-germination.
