I’m trying to resolve how you suggest that buying seed from a big box store is bad practice however this particular brand is a supplier for many big box chains possibly including the very store you were walking through at the beginning of the video. What gives?
Gotta love the Lawn Slaying Ginja! Thanks for hooking me up with Barenbrug 3 years ago, I've never been happier and never looked back. Slay that lawn bro ⚔
Happy to help!
I recently discovered your channel and have watched just about all of your lawn care videos. You have a talent for explaining things in layman's terms with a touch of humor along the way - a good combo. Thanks for taking the time to put together another informative video!
Awesome, thank you! Really appreciate the feedback!
I just did a total lawn renovation 2 weeks ago. And I went with the Barenbrug Turf Saver RTF tall fescue based on your recommendation of the seed company. And I am beyond thrilled with the results. Thank you so much Ginja!
Nice work! The rtf is an incredible blend for fescue lovers. very dark, healthy, and easy to take care of.
I always wondered how they harvested grass seed. Very educational and great editing!
The more you know💫
right!? its not a widely known thing. It was a very fun project.
I’m not embarrassed to say this video was awesome! Never knew how much work went into a bag of seed. Thanks for the great content!!
wow! Thanks Paul. Love the feedback.
The seeds caught in your beard should germinate in about 7 days.
LMAO
Ha Ha Ha 🤣
Lol

I’m a grown man but looking at these grown men play in mountains of grass seeds got to be fun and something I want to try one of these days 👍🏻
It was a blast!
Ginja, no bulls**t this is Discovery-Channel-worthy, excellent job with the entire thing. Literally one of the most fascinating videos I’ve ever watched👍🏼
👊😀 Huge compliment Drew! Made my day. I spent a long time putting this together.
This is AMAZING!! Thank You so much for showing us the inner workings of grass seed manufacturing...
Our pleasure! It was a really fun project!
Never realized the amount of work it takes to process grass seed! Awesome vid! Thanks for doing this for us commonfolk!
You bet! It was a fun process to be apart of.
Man, that's so awesome! I'm in manufacturing for a reason. I've been doing manufacturing for over 25 years because how the different processes take place from start to finish.
Rad! It can be very complex
@PestandLawnGinja I started following your channel a few months ago after buying a home right up the road from you in West Jordan. I really appreciate the helpful advise you share which is why I've decided to do a lawn reno. I am now the proud owner of a SunJoe and just picked up a bag of Barenbrug seed to do an overseed. Keep up the good work! Now to kill off a patch of bermuda grass that has taken over a corner of my backyard. I didn't even know we had bermuda in our area. Ugh!!
You're welcome! Putting in the work I see! Love it
Holy cow! Berenberg is the OCD of seed companies! Amazing detail of the high-quality grass seeds they produce!
Right!?
I have used the Schultz brand at Menards that is made by Barenburg..its the best "off the shelf" seed I have used. Zero weeds and great germination rates.
Good to know!
This was an excellent doc, man!
Thanks! It was a ton of fun visiting the site
I just renovated/overseeded my yard. I didn’t want to break the bank, but by the end, I realized, the amount of work I need to do to detach, aerate, water, fertilize etc.... exceeds the value of the seed by a LOT. So the more expensive seed doesn”t change the equation much, but it can save a lot if it grows better and I don’t have to repeat it, or fix bare spots that much.
I found elite grass varieties for ridiculously low price at the local landscaper supply store though, so I’m good:)
Wonderful! Love hearing it! I'm a miser at heart so I love deals
In my opinion this is hands-down the best video you’ve made
Thank you! Love the feedback Andrew
Have been planning to move back to Oregon. Lived there twice when i was younger and dumber. Now that i have a lawn business and also family there plus the Oregon coast has my soul Ive got to get back there for good! Doesnt hurt that its the grass seed capital of the world so lawns are plentiful and a guy can landscape 11 months out of the year vs 6 and a half if youre lucky here in Southern Idaho! Great video!
That's awesome Kellen! It is a great place to live
What do you mean 11 months? And how, it's cold. Don't mean to seem crappy but please explain.
@@paulnicholson8524 I mean it doesnty freeze very often so you can still do landscaping. shrubs, installs, and a bit of mowing maintenance pretty much all year! Compare that to Idaho where there ios snow on the ground 6 months out of the year and everything dies or goes dormant fot the winter. If you dont plow snow or get another job you donnt have any money
That was friggin awesome!! Best grass related video I’ve seen yet! Go Ginja!!!👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback Robert!
Hey man! Thanks for the ton of work that must have gone into this excellent footage. Never knew how involved the process of seed production is. There's more in the bag than top notch grass seed. Hey that's a tag line!
Glad you enjoyed it! Love the tag line! I think we filmed for almost 30 hours to capture all of it. it was a ton of work!
Thank you ! Now I’m understand way is different prices. Wow this a lot process for better quality. Like you said, no more cheap grass seed. Thank you again!
You're welcome hector! Quality seed is soo worthwhile
Hell yea! Was wondering where all those seeds come from when i was reseeding my lawn. Thanks for the Answer Sir!!
You bet! It was eye opening how much goes into it.
After using many, and I mean many different types of grass seed. I found out about barenbrug; never looked back and have been using barenbrug for the past 5 years.
👊😁 awesome! I've used it for soo long. It's always been reliable
Awesome video. I always wondered how it was done. I’ll never buy cheap seed again. I have so much poa annua in my lawn it was driving me crazy. Now that I’m learning what to look for. I’m getting certified seed from a commercial landscaping supplier that just started selling to the public. I’m doing my first renovation on a small area to get that hang of it all and the grass is coming in amazingly. Going to do a bigger area in the spring. Thanks again for all your helpful videos. They are really helping me out. Keep doing what you do. 👍
awesome! Really appreciate the feedback. best of luck on your reno! go slay that lawn!
Just planted their RTF seed 8 days ago. Starting to sprout...I’m excited!!!
Bryan Russell Rtf and black beauty 👍
Such a fantastic grass species. The color is really dark too which I prefer.
Thanks for sharing this Ginga.
Now I know what brand and type of seed I'm going to use next year for my lawn renovation.
Good job.
Glad to help! You'll love the seed. good stuff.
Great video by far the most interesting and educational video I’ve ever seen on grass and lawn care 👋 great job Ginja thanks for sharing this experience with us .💚💚
Glad you enjoyed it! Love the feedback Vito!
Pest and Lawn Ginja my pleasure 💪🏻
👊😁
Ginja is the reason I bought my first bag, cannot wait to see how it does.
Rad! You'll love it. be sure to get good seed to soil contact and keep it wet.
Just did a full renovation and used RTF turf saver TTTF. Very nice stuff!!!
Rad!
Never go on the cheap for any raw material - quality wins every time!
For sure!

Love this video, never seen anything like it. Barenburg is ready to take off for the DIY market thanks to you.
Yes! They've been making some big changes to accommodate
Quite a comprehensive process from R&D to finished product. Very informative.
Thanks Ginja ~ mike

I have just bought the WaterSaver from them! Glad to see your clip and see that this is very quality stuff!
Great to hear! the rtf is a fantastic product
@@pestandlawnginja rtf is very diffrent from water saver, or it have aswell almoust the same seeds?
Good stuff, thanks to you, my yard is set for the winter. Keep it coming.
Rad! Well done!
Can confirm - one of the most lush lawns I ever had was based on a Barenbrug perennial rye blend.
Rad! Love the feedback Peter!
I've been overseeding with Barrenbrug's yellow-jacket perennial rye for two years. It is AMAZING stuff. Great video Ginja!
Rad! Its fantastically soft on the feet!
Well done Ginja! A very informative video and well produced as always ! Thank you I enjoyed it !
Awesome! This took forever to put together
I started a new lawn 7 years ago with RTF water saver, turned out great. thanks to Jos Roozen from Garden Sense radio show. he recommended to not change the top soil bc it will only make for a weaker root system. he said grass seed can grow in poor top soil just like trees can grow in almost solid rock. and he said dont use straw, use a fine mulch/compost to cover the seed.
marty one I also have a Rft lawn my father use to listen the Garden sense show as well also use turf trust fertilizer 👍 Thanks Dad ❤️ Passing on the good seed😇
This theory has been proven by many people in the african desert. For the most part all it takes is water to get the seed to germinate.
Great video! Really cool to see the whole process from start to finish, really enjoyed this video! 👍🏼
Tha is soo much! It was a blast doing it
Man, love this field trips. Awesome behind the scenes!
Glad you enjoyed! This one was a fun one! who knew it was soo complex
This was an awesome video! Thanks for putting this together.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun video to make.
Omg I'm so amazed! And I'm at 10:32 of your video , but had to pause and remark!❤ WHAT a learning experience!❤
Soo glad you like it! It was an eye opening experience
A small point is that Barenbrug is in Tangent, Oregon which is adjacent to Albany. I have lived in the Linn County ORegon for 49 years. More grass seed is grown here than anywhere. I remarked to my wife just yesterday that the grass in the fields has grown like crazy the last two weeks. It is amazing to seed so many fields of plants, the many shades of green, the seeds of which will make lawns all over the world. Thanks for visiting our bit of paradise.
That’s pretty awesome Paul! It was an amazing visit
@@pestandlawnginja The straw from the harvested crop is shipped to South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan where they use it for cattle feed. The plastic twine once was sent to China for reprocessing.
Did you know that we also grow much peppermint (ice cream, candy canes) and the leftovers are composted. Cheers!
Great video man I loved the combine work in this vid it was beautiful to see thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! It was super cool to see in person!
I bet that would've been amazing thanks for the video
First Aussie 😁. Thanks for showing us around. Great video Ginja. 😎👍👍
Any time! You the man!
Great video! I have always wondered how this whole process works.
Glad you enjoyed it! I worked hard on this video
I was wondering about this process recently and this answered all my questions. Very cool to see. Great video!
Soo cool! Thanks for watching
This was an awesome video! I have always wanted to know how seed was harvested, grown, tested etc! Wow!! Best video I have watched in a while. Nice work!
👊😁 thanks! Took me forever to make this one
Pest and Lawn Ginja well worth the time and effort! Your videos are some of my favorites on you tube.
Thank you!
I was waiting for someone to do a video like this. Very cool! Thank you Ginja!
Glad you liked it!
I have a similar Spyker product, it is awesome, did not know them and Brinly-Hardy were sister companies. Love my LAWN cause of you!
awesome! Keep slaying that lawn!
I mix Johnathan Green Black Beauty Ultra grass mix with their RPR mix when I seeded after installation of Irrigation system in my side lawn this year. Now It looks a amazing so I decided to overseed with the same mix my front lawn.
👊😁🎯
Ginja you’re the man period. You’ve never steered me wrong. I’m still waiting for the smoke to clear from my mind because of how well that damn Quinclorac works on crabgrass! Wow
Awesome Donnie! Still slaying that lawn! Love it
WOW !!! Top notch company that’s for sure 👍👍. Thanks Ginja for bringing us along and let us learn how grass seeds are made. Awesome video once again buddy ... 👌👌.
You're welcome denis! Thanks for your support!
Great video Ginja. One of your best ever. Very interest information and loved the process. Two things I have to mention. I always thought seed came from the store and when are they going to make a ziplock bag. That string set up is a pain in the you know what lol :)
Great point! I too have a hatred for the string hahaha
Many of our pro products have easy open tabs built in! Because nothing is worse than ripping a bag to shreds over a little fiber. :)
That was awesome....thanks for taking the time to travel and bring this to your followers. 👊👊👊
You're welcome!
Ur channel just went elite. Great vid.
Thanks. From Toronto, ON
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome info once again Ginja! Thanks for taking the time to put all this together.
Sure thing! This was a fun technical video.
I over applied weed killer and burned some of my lawn. I also been getting a backbreaking workout utilizing the thatch rake that seems to be one of your favorites. I don't mind spending a little more cash when it comes to fertilizer or grass seed. You pay for what you get. Thanks for this video. You rock!
Thanks Darren! Sounds like you're well on your way to slaying that lawn!
I got the SunJoe electric dethatching rake and it worked great; saved lots of time over using my rake and it even did a better job too. My only regret is not getting it a couple of years ago when I received an offer to buy it for under $100 on sale; I spent a bit over $150 but money well spent IMO. Check out the RUclips videos that test that machine and you might be impressed.
It is a great machine
Never hear of them and I never get my seed from a big box store and never buy less then a 40 lb bag at a time. Thanks Ginja
You're welcome John. I've been using them commercially for over 9 years
Awesome video ginja!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥
Thank you!! 😁
I'm planting their prg on Monday. Very nice video and info.
Rad! You'll love it
I love it!! Oregon is where it's at. Albany is real close to where I live in Oregon. Earlier this year I bought some ryegrass seed from seedsuperstore.com. I found it really funny that the specific cultivar of seed I bought was produced here in Oregon pretty much three hours from where I live. The seed made it all the way to the east coast only to come back home. haha
Hope you were able to experience many more of the wonderful outdoors Oregon has to offer.
That's pretty funny! Thanks for sharing. I made it down to the beach and froze my tail feathers off hahaha. played a round of golf in dallas. Overall I had a great time.
@@pestandlawnginja yea beaches over here aren’t warm hahah
Wow,who would have thought quality grass seed went through so many processes.
Right!? Totally agree
I always use their water saver RTF for my lawn in Massachusetts. Stays greener than my neighbors year round.
Rad! Bet it looks fantastic! Super dark rtf
@@pestandlawnginja can you provide a link to buy this brands cold season seeds? I live in Rhode Island.
Awesome . Thanks for your videos
Glad you like them!
Great video! I've been wondering recently about this entire process, very interesting! I've never seen their seed in my area, will have to check them out online. But I do have 6 bags of Pro Peat after watching your video recently from their facility, lol!
Rad! 👊😁
Great Video Ginja!! With all the different varieties of grass seed, how does one go about choosing the right one for your lawn?
Good question! You need to first figure out what you want. do you want kentucky blue, rye, tall fescue etc... once you figure that out you can cross reference it with ntep.org to check color, varieties etc.
Hey Ginja, living in northcentral Massachusetts when I purchased my home I knew I wanted to have the best lawn. Unfortunately I didn't know anything about proper lawn care. Several failures later I pulled the rip cord and applied glyphosate at 4% per gallon. The current turf is all but gone and I'm preparing for my renovation in spring. I'm having a real overthinking problem on not only brand but also type. My lawn gets nearly full sun all day.
I love barenbrug turf blue pro or their RPR turf saver both listed on amazon. links in the description of the video. the rye stripes better
Great vid and affirmation. Seeded two weeks ago with Barenbrug RPR and Turf Blue (70/30 - coverage not weight) I went with two rounds of Glypho, level some low spots, two weeks fallowing, the a 3rd round of Glypho before seeding. Tenacity and a 3-18-18 at seeding. I already have a new lawn and I’m on the fence about cutting already with a manual reel. Just nervous about hurting the little turf blues, but I got to get them some light, some of the RPR is at 3 inches. Also thinking to put down some Propiconazole as I want to keep up the watering for the turf blues.
Sounds like a solid plan. I'd cut it for sure
Nothing but pure certified blue tags here..ttf/kbg..just planted my reno plot..5 day germination..suppper happy..
Rad! Slay that lawn!
wow mind blowing so much goes into seeds alot involved
Right!? Totally agree
Doing a reno on my mom's fescue yard, aka "The Scott's Special". Got the Barenbrug RTF and RPR but seriously wanting to "accidentally" glyphosate her lawn and sod Zoysia 😂
Hahaha 😆
Haven’t ever paid attention to individual companies. Just bought Pennington or Scott’s blends of fescues, ryes, and blue grasses. Prob have 30 varieties in my yard. Everything seems to germinate, thrive, and look great. As long as it’s Oregon I don’t think you can go wrong. Have to give the yellow bag a shot though to see if I notice any difference.
Just checked the price. WAY too proud of their seed. Guess I’ll just have to keep having an amazing lawn with the reasonably priced seed I’ve always used.
its a great product.
Really cool Ginja. Thanks for sharing. 👊🏻👍🏻
You're welcome!
This is vary informative! Thanks for sharing this.
You're very welcome
Thank you! I was wondering about this the other night.
You're welcome Jason
Great video..hope you got all the seeds out!
😂😂😂😂 we will see come spring time
I did/doing both. Using Pen/Rebel/Scotts shade/dense shade mix for bigger areas. And the smaller area I've ignored, but that fine fescue that's doing fine, got some boutique fine fescue for over-seeding/new combo. I'm still in the experimental stage for this rather shady near pure clay area. And Darwin didn't say strongest survives, but most adaptable survives.
Fine fescue will be your best bet. I've been testing mazama bluegrass and it's going well
Canadian Guy here, I haven't heard of these guys before but did acquire Triple Threat from Southern Seed - we'll see how it works!
right on! good luck!
I've used their Schultz branded Kentucky Blue Grass I get at Menards. Best seed I've ever used! Germinates fast & grows nice and thick keeping the weeds out. Don't know if it's exactly the same as in the yellow bag but It's great seed nonetheless.
Definitely a chance! Depends on a few things like time of year and availability, seed markets, product purpose, etc. Thanks for the support!
Awesome

cool vid thx i just bought a bag and fertilizer to support another damaged area .... but, my concern is to do with native grasses that support native ecosystems just like the rest of plants i'm sure there is more science to grass than what we see here. so much to learn and so much we dont understand what is going on underneath the grass and its many networks
Sounds great! Keep going! you're doing great.
Hello there Kind Sir. Another awesome and very informative video. I appreciate the content and effort that went into it 👍🏻👊🏻. I’m in the market for some seed and I’m glad you made this video. I live in Southern California in a small desert town that is very dry, we rarely get any rain, temperatures in the summer are well over 100 degrees. What would you recommend. I’m looking for something that is drought tolerant. You always recommend quality products and for that I thank you 🙏🏻. Have a blessed day!

I'm in central Florida , I have Bahiagrass and it's very drought resistant. I don't have irrigation because I have acreage. I don't see Bahi in their brand . Is there another name for it? And will blue grass make it in the Florida heat without Irrigation?
Glad you like the videos! Bahiagrass is not included in the barenbrug brand to my knowledge. bahiagrass can be maintained well but its not considered a golf course variety. Not to say that's a bad thing. it's easy to maintain and doesn't require a lot of maintenance.
GREAT INFO FILLED VIDEO. THANKS
You're welcome rob!
Great video - really nice overview
Thanks!
Gosh this video was amazing! Shared!
Thank you soo much!
Very enlightening. Thanks
Anytime Grace!
Okay big man here’s my scoop. I have used a well advertised national name brand and it’s crap. I recently made a rookie mistake and planted some Kentucky blue grass when the rest of my lawn is a perineal rye grass, not a good look. Bottom line buy good stuff and don’t waste your time and money on bad seed. Love ya man, be safe out there!
sorry to hear about that John! Mistakes are part of the journey. luckily rye is easy to plant. sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you.
