My garbage lawn was 70% weeds. Started working on it in may. Spend 200$ on a push reel mower and 400$ on weed be gone 200$ on fertilizer and 120$ on seed. If you put in the time give things time to thrive you can have a completely weed free lawn in 65 days. My lawn is pure KGB with sprinkles of rye and fesue. All uniform colour due to uniform nutrients. Use triple 19 on lime spots when they obviously are pure grass. Most of the time it’s weeds sapping your water and nutrient.

Just lightly dragging a rake behind you in a cross hatch pattern will even that peat moss out really nicely. It will get some of the seed mixed into the peat moss topping, but I've never had issues getting solid germination using that technique to even out the moss.

    • @pestandlawnginja
      @pestandlawnginja  3 года назад

I've done that. the issues were the seed moving with the peat moss. it also left chunks of peat. two much peat effects the germination in a big way.

Love my Landzie, thanks to previous vids. I lost my lawn to moss over the winter. Cleared it with the dethatcher, pulling back. Worked great. Can't afford a pro for loam/seeding so doing re-seeding myself. Very tough to mow what is left and grow new seed. Plus I'm late and its summer. Did a sample patch and kbg came up great but has crabgrass in it. Not happy about that but that is what Tenacity is for. I'll continue using it. Very expensive seed. 50 lbs for $314. but its already paid for.... Wish me luck. My two landcare neighbors think I'm nuts. I like that. BTW, I'm using the Landzie to spread some sifted loam over the seed and rolling, instead of peat moss. So far so good.

I just reseeded where I had 4 big oak trees. about 100-200sqft. layed down seed, starter fert, peat moss top cover, and a little tackifier. Temps were mid 90s! I was kind of experimenting to see if I could even get it to grow with that kind of heat. using some automatic sprinkler timers I had em going for 15 mins every hr for about 10-12 hrs a day. 2 weeks later it's came in very well and am going to do a first mow tomorrow. growing in the heat can be done but I'm not looking forward to the suck of my water bill this month lol.

Curious if you have every worked with liquid fertilizers, iron and aeration products? I pretty impressed with liquid aeration, but it’s just the cost of application and the frequency as to how you need to apply it to get the results. A nice lawn is all about the soil. Giving grass seed roots room to expand and grow so you have a healthy lawn that is super green with loose soil that allows the roots to grow deep.

I have seen several with peat moss, Conner did one recently where he put sawdust down (that got my attention as a woodworker), but here in Texas the thunderstorms are no joke and my lawn has a slope. I have to hold that seed in place. My first reno was a real learning curve. However, I found out that using lightweight burlap to cover my seed is a lifesaver! It might not be feasible for big yards, but if you are just doing 1k-2k sqft sections it works great and it's less expensive than seed blankets!

Hmm temperature is generally never an issue here in Texas, but heavy rains can ruin a freshly seeded lawn really quickly. Sometimes it just comes down to luck in good timing. It happen with my lawn this year. The front yard I thought I'd try a really early seed, first week of march actually... after a week I felt things were going so well with weather and temp, decided to seed the backyard, another week later, my front yard got established and rooted. Survived well through the first heavy rain week, but the backyard... it's all uneven and patchy. But hey, this is why you order extra seed, I'm in my second week after overseeding, and things are so nice.

Why peat-moss instead of compost? Compost retails moister much better and isn’t susceptible to wind and water movement. But you got good results so that’s pretty cool.

Cut grass short and bag it
    Dethatch/cleanup
    Overseed
    Starter Fert
Compost/peat moss on top with a spreader like this.
    Anything you'd change here?

8:57 you showed in your other video that the Peak Seasons Compost Spreader was perfect for peat moss and left no lines, but you still went with the land-z. also, your complaint for the peak seasons was that it spread too much "big chunks" out, but you are using a rhizomatic, which depends on those "big chunks" for shelter to make colonies!

About to kill it all off and replant some good KBG. My jury is still out on the PRG disease tolerance and heat tolerance (cool season here.) it got hot quick here this year and my PRG checked out quick. 😖
And PRG germinates quickly too. 6 days for me so the same.

I can't afford much, and I have 1/2 ac. In the fall, I want to spray tenacity everywhere, then aerate, then throw a 1in of top soil and seed. Then wait it out till spring. Top soil around here is cheaper. Will that be enough to be considered a restart?

I'm testing other varieties, but I like the color of the Brenbrug. Haven't decided on what I would do for my reno, but if I do choose Barenbrug I am going to go heavier on the ratio for KBG.
