This was quietly a historic game. On top of real time loading the environment by just constantly reading the disc, Jak was the 1st game to sync character IK to the environment, essentially, as you moved the hero, your feet didn't 'skate' around the ground due to the running animations not being perfectly times with move speed/direction. Having a character's feet stay on the ground and have friction with the ground is now quite common (looking at you Assassin's Creed). It's the 1st game, really, where the hero is 'part' of the world instead of overlaid 'on top' of it.
PC Port? Smoother graphics in some areas while preserving the old look in others? Looks pretty cool… wait… Subtitles? Even during runaround gameplay dialogue? YES!
I think the PC port looks exactly as the PS2 version, just the extra resolution gives you that feeling of looking so clean and smooth. The PS2 game was just so ahead of its time and the cleaness of a LCD makes it a lot of justice.
What an exciting time to be a Jak fan! We really needed news like this, i cant wait to see what the next months bring, especially with the potential of mods! Fantastic job, heres to hoping Jak 2 gets this treatment as well
For sure! They have already confirmed that they are going to be doing the same for Jak 2 and just haven’t started yet. Since the whole trilogy uses the GOAL language, hopefully the process becomes easier and faster for them too!
9 months later and Jak 2 is starting to take shape. The devs are almost done with recompilation and they are now in the bug testing phase. That probably means that we are just a few months away from the Jak 2 port releasing. And considering how quickly Jak 2's port came out, that probably means we are less than a year and a half away from a Jak 3 port as well.
R&C Trilogy was based on J&D2 engine. Naughty Dog and Insomniac worked in the same building during that time. IIRK from a magazine article, Ted Price told to Andy Gavin (or was it Jason Rubin) that Insomniac still do not have a capable PS2 engine for their new character-driven action game in development which was Ratchet and Clank. So Naughty Dog just gave their J&D2 engine to Insomniacs. And all R&C Trilogy games on PS2 (except Deadlocked) were using this J&D2 engine even though ND also proposed their J&D3 engine later on. That's why I'm so excited about this news. Fan mods for the original J&D and potentially for R&C would be so awesome. I love what Spyro fans made with Zera the Awakening for example.
Incredible effort by the OpenGOAL contributors! Replaying Jak and Daxter on PS2 last year cemented it as a GOATed platformer for how refined, cohesive, and fun it is. So excited for this new era of Jak and Daxter!
Hahaha you’re right, this platformer really is a GOAT in GOAL. So happy the others are going to get this treatment, even more keen for what they look like
@@HowGoodGames same here, I'm really thankful we got the first game ported but I'm really excited to replay Jak II on PC. I think people will be surprised by the visual improvement Jak II brought once they see it in 4K
@@HowGoodGames furthermore there were a few areas in the sequels where Naughty Dog pushed the PS2 a little beyond its limits (for example when the Metal Heads attack Haven City). PC ports will hopefully ensure consistent, buttery smooth framerates
I wasn’t a huge fan on Jak 2 if you’ve seen my video covering that one, but a big reason was because of how the game had aged when compared to modern QOL things. I think with a port and seeing the sorts of changes made for Jak and Daxter, It’s the one I’m most excited about jumping back in to again
@@HowGoodGames ooh that's interesting 🤔 I'll have to watch your video. It's been about 15 years since I've played Jak II so I'm sure my glasses are a bit rose-tinted haha QoL stuff should hopefully be addressable in a PC port by the dev team, fingers crossed they don't burn themselves out from this massive undertaking 🤞🏻
I genuinely enjoyed playing through both Jak 2 and 3...but as I've grown older, I think the biggest missed opportunity with this franchise was shying away from the world and platforming roots of the original game. The world of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is SO rich, and while I understand its sequels capitalized on the trends of the time (primarily GTA's open-world structure and gunplay), I desperately yearn for another adventure in the vein of the original game: Not Jak 2, but Jak & Daxter 2.
Yeah I completely agree with this, I wish we had have gotten more games like TPL. Nintendo doesn’t get enough respect for what it did spinning Metroid prime out of the Metroid games and having both series run at the same time. Very tough thing to pull off, but given the change in tone and gameplay is so drastic, would have been great to see something similar happen with Jak and Daxter
the irony here is that jak 1 is actually more 'open-world' than jak 2 and 3 imo, which are much more linear games that just happen to have a ridicoulously oversized hub area (the haven city :P). strip away the police chases and it's just a level select with REALLY long paths. jak 1 actually feels more 'open' in the way you can complete objectives in any order you want and explore the world at your own pace. it gives me a sense curiosity and discovery not far removed from modern games like elden ring or zelda botw, just on a cuter/humbler scale.
Jak and daxter, Mario 64 and OoT have all had this treatment and it's great. While true naitive pc ports are unreasonable for all games, and emulation will be the only option, the ones that have gotten it are all classics and I am so happy to see all this work put in by dedicated fans
Yeah, but who knows. You would imagine particularly between Jak 2 and Jak 3 there are a number of reused assets and lines of code that would have already been translated and decompiled when doing Jak 2. I think that as each game goes I wouldn't be surprised if it got faster and faster. With that said, 2024 feels accurate seeing as they have been working on this first one (albeit from scratch) since 2020
Hey all, there is a new, even easier way to install this with a launcher now as well! Jak 1 is the best one, IMO. Fantastic work from everyone involved. Stunning.

This is the future for game preservation (at least for 5th and 6th gen games) I really want to see more of this in the future, PC ports with Quality of Life improvements for games like Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Fatal Frame etc. (I would include Nintendo games, but we all know what they do when people emulate or modify their games) I hope that Sony or Naughty Dog don't sue the devs or cancel the project.
Well I’ve done a video on ocarina of time and planning another one on a Mario 64 decompilation, and it seems like if they are careful about how they go about it, it actually makes it really tough for ND, Sony or even Nintendo to take these projects down
nintendo cant ever really stop people from emulating, not as long as they refuse to properly rerelease some of the older games in the way companies like playstation has (by my understanding sony hasnt "properly"" taken anything down like nintendo has. iirc you can still access some of the older playstation stores - but the same cant be said of nintendos eshops.) you can still find plenty of pokemon hacks, for example, and the pmd sky modding community was running strong last i saw. but yeah nintendo does make it hard for there to ever be anything big.
I have never played this game before, but i gotta say it looks amazing on PC. only marginal visual improvements, true to the artstyle, no fancy post-processing effects, raytracing lighting bloom pissfilters, just relying on the inherent visual qualities of the original game. Well done.
This is actually nuts. I can't wait to see the kinds of mods that come out of this. I'm excited to see if Jak 2 and 3 get ported, that way people can mod those games and make them better than what the devs intended.
@@HowGoodGames it's not too long and has the right amount of difficulty to it. Easily my favorite PS2 era game. I play through it again every now and then thanks to emulation, I would love a remake though sadly this is probably the most likely way to see it on PC natively.
I came back to rewatch this video, and I’m so stoked to see it’s performing well! Really happy that you’re giving such good publicity for this port. You’re definitely playing a part in getting people interested in these old games again
I've treasured the copy my parents bought me in 2001. I've played it many times, but I never thought about a PC port. I also didn't know that Naughty Dog made an entire language for it. Andy Gavin always finds a new way to impress me.
I only played Jak 3 as a child and remember loving it. I should really take this opportunity to go back and play the other games in the series. As someone who really likes weird and interesting programming languages as well, the GOAL language looks really cool. Huge props to the team to be able to opensource a compiler for it.
Its really quite incredible what they've done. You should check out their website, they have made a lot of their work very open to anyone wanting to learn more about the language itself too!
Shoutout for youtube recommendations because this is a thing i didn't want to miss because i am a huge fan of the series! I played it first roughly 13 years ago.
Yeah hopefully they get something up and running so people can contribute! They already have confirmed they are going to port 2 and 3 already, but undecided on Jak X right now

I still remember how massively disappointed I was at the Vita port, especially with how good the Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper ports were on Vita. I wonder if Naughty Dog's weird code is what made it such a trash port.
This is absolutely amazing, the kind of respect I feel for these devs is unmeasurable, in fact is more than respect is more like adulation, if I could build them an altar I totally would LOL. I believe this is the first "PS2 to PC" native PC port made by fans right? I know about the ports of Nintendo 64 games and also the port of the 2 PS1 _Driver_ games, but this is the first time I've heard of a PS2 game being fan ported, correct me if I'm wrong though, I would love to know!

You know this is a good game you love when watching someone else play and miss orbs triggers your ocd XD Really nice to see Precursor Legacy get this love. I know 2 & 3 are the ones more talked about nowadays, but 1 really is my favorite platformer of all, incredibly replayable BECAUSE of thos lack of loading screens made the world feel so alive as a child. You could even see the end of the game "in sight" all the way from Sandover to boot.
There was some insane programming wizardry that went on here to make all of that work. Should definitely make the time to check this one out yourself if you haven’t already!
as someone who still owns a working ps2, this is still a crazy godsend, as I love this series, and wish that it had the support the fans wish it had, and this has inspired be to get that usb dvd drive I've been meaning to get for all this time
I have no idea if this is how it works but seeing as all 3 games are written in GOAL, hopefully the work decompiling and translating it for TPL make the process faster and easier for 2 and 3. Fingers crossed!
I can finally experience my childhood again. I started playing this when I was 2 and played it almost every day (didn’t have a memory card lol). It’s been over a decade and I’ve almost already graduated high school. I decided to just watch a Jak and Daxter one day and just discovered a PC port exists cuz I don’t have a PS4. Now I’m in fucking love with this game again and its port.
God this makes me nothing but happy. this is fucking god tier amazing and the people at opengoal deserve so fucking much. i would say, i hope they get hired by sony on the premise of being able to work on this full time and being paid for their efforts. but tbf i don't believe sony would treat them right. honestly i just hope 2 years down the line i can play jak1-2-3 all on my computer natively. that will be a fucking dream come true. and i hope someone picks up the ratchet and clank series honestly..... more then anything. ratchet/jak were my two childhood games i've been playing since i was literally 3/4 years old....
Im hoping there is just a way that we can contribute to the project because I agree, while they deserve jobs doing this for games full time, that might not be what they want and I know a lot of us here want to contribute financially if we can too. Who knows how long it will take, but just knowing that they are going to be porting 2 and 3 is enough for me right now!
I recently played and completed the first Jak and Daxter on the PS4 for the first time. Now I'm hooked. I even bought Jak 2 and 3. I wished I'd played it back when I was a teen. I was more into Crash Bandicoot as far as Naughty Dog games went. I'm okay with the PS4 version, but those mods look amazing. It just goes to show that no matter how old a game gets the passion never really dies.
My first experience was on the PS4 versions as well, and it was only after I played the trilogy that way that I found out they were the worst versions of those games lol. Again, I didn't know what I didn't know so they seemed fine to me, but this port is 1000 times better than the PS4 version!
I installed the game on the Steam Deck yesterday and it ran perfectly. Ended up playing until the Red Sage area because it felt so good to play. Ever since I was like 10 there is no such thing as a non-101% playthrough of this game so I can confirm that everything behaves exactly how it is supposed to. Plus it truly is just much more responsive. It would be wonderful to see this treatment for Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank. Hopefully when it comes time for Jak II the game code is similar enough that the job of porting is easier/faster.
I know literally nothing about coding but I hope so as well. In my simple brain it would make sense that some of the code would have been reused so if it has already been decompiled then it would be a lot quicker to implement or just iron out bugs for 2
Consider the following: Model swap the Jak & Daxter Models with their Jak II or Jak 3 counterparts. The improved, less angular, more distinct versions. If it's apart of the same engine, then it should be possible, right?
Well……… surprise? If it makes you feel any better, even though you can’t use those files, you technically should own a copy of the game to legally play this so you definitely check that box!
Woe this is utterly insane! I just have to wonder just how dedicated those guys have to be to be willing to learn a new coding language and then rebuild a game using that knowledge
That’s still worth it because we take platinums seriously in this house. While you’re fresh off it, I’d boot it up if I were you, would be keen to hear your thoughts on how it plays after just coming off it on ps5! (All my ps4 comparison shots were captured on ps5 too)
I’m just happy more people have the opportunity to check it out! Stoked I got to play a small part of it, enjoy the port my friend! This team has done an incredible job
This is crazy awesome. I'm a massive fan of the Jak and Daxter series, but I wouldn't have ever tried to take on such a massive task as this. These kinds of things are incredible.
I only played Jak 2 and was one of the best games I've ever played, and beat. This first game still looks really good. The stylized look stands the test of time.
Imagine if, once they're all done, they do a small update where you can get them all at once and have a selection screen like the HD edition on PS3, meaning you wouldn't need to fully close the game if you wanted to swap from one to the other.
@@HowGoodGames It would be cool if they implemented that screen now, and if you wanted to add more games when they get around to doing them you just add them to the file. I don't doubt a bit of code changing would be required to add that screen, and an area to place the other games so the game files don't just mix, but it would still be cool.
I am shocked this video was recommended to me because I had forgot about this game entirely even though I used to play it religiously as a kid, guess I can relive all those memories now!
Far out this is my favourite game franchise of all time, I recently played through them on an emulator but I can't believe people have put so much effort into this franchise to this day. I'm really excited and can't wait for the rest of the games to be done as well!.
same here dude. Even if you recently played through them, would definitely recommend spending a few minutes at least checking this out for yourself (warning, you probably will get sucked in and 100% it again if you do)
@@HowGoodGames Yup I booted it up last night and have 100% the first part and I'm off to the blue sage part now. It's insane how good they have made it!.
were subtitles always in the game cause if that's just in the PC port than that automatically makes it far better. Idk why but putting subtitles in the game makes it just looks so much better.
I don’t remember off the top of my head, but they are able to be toggled here with square which I know is a new thing. I can’t recall subtitles in the original though
Can't see all the modding and graphics improvements people will make now! I love it! I used to use emulator that I barely set up and still had bugs to play it, with some crashing here and there
@@HowGoodGames I just got it running there. That was so easy to set up and runs a treat. Holy shit why has Sony not done something on this level yet, my god.
I also had no idea this existed until I saw this video. The only decompilation projects you hear about really are the Nintendo ones. Really excited to see the future of this!
It’s worth noting: The PS4 port of Jak and Daxter limits the amount of directions Jak can go. The PS2 version allows for full 360° control with the analog stick. I think the PS4 port only allows for 18 directions or something
Yeah I remember coming across this when researching and put together my 'how to play every Jak and Daxter game' video. Such a weird and unnecessary change to make when the PS4 version is literally just a port of the PS2 version
This game is very special to me, it's one of the first games, if not the very first game I ever played. I was 4 when I got my ps2, and played Jak and Daxter so often, haha the purple swampy goop would always give me legit nightmares.
Honestly really good, definitely the definitive way to play. My only issue is the precursor orb glow option won't work and I don't know where to go to ask about that
I hope they’ll also do Jak X Combat Racing. Mostly because with mods you’ll also be able to make your own fan made content much easier and I feel like Kras City didn’t get enough attention/lore. Haven was described in Jak 2 as the only city that survived the Metal Head wars, and then asparagus was explained that they went dark on the grid to survive so very few knew they existed. I wanted to know how Kras city survived because I doubt a whole huge (based on cutscenes and races) city was built so quickly and immediately said “hey, let’s have an annual crime family ran street race tournament. Whoever’s team wins gets to run the city for a year.” So they had to have existed for awhile. Especially since Razor is a retired racer and “eventually everyone works for Mizo”. It also would’ve been cool to have another city to explore other new missions and stuff.
Now you might be thinking 'that's sick but its only a matter of time before it gets taken down' which I would normally agree with you... except this port is completely legal. They said it’s purely a passion project they are just having fun working on, and don’t want to complicate things with splitting money across all the contributors or feel like they need to work outside of their own pace. They do have a discord though so if you want to go and express your gratitude there to them directly, then that would be pretty dope!
@@HowGoodGames Thank you so much for the reply! It's so cool! It sounds great and it looks great! And best of all, it plays great!
@@vereor6304 maybe you can ask them on discord if they have a favorite charity you can donate the money to, instead. They shouldn't have too much problem with that
This was quietly a historic game.
YES!
its almost too good to be true isn't it?
Don't forget, skippable cutscenes which is a HUGE deal now with that long ass intro cutscene
Came here looking for this. Jak 2 was amazing and I can't wait to play it on PC!
Fuck yes! I hope they do Jak X too!
I want to cry this is beyond amazing. This game along with 2 and 3 made up a significant portion of my childhood.
It's been about 15 years since I've played Jak II so I'm sure my glasses are a bit rose-tinted haha
QoL stuff should hopefully be addressable in a PC port by the dev team, fingers crossed they don't burn themselves out from this massive undertaking 🤞🏻
Such a big part of my childhood. The opening cutscene still gives me goosebumps during the Sage's monologue. "Even the rocks do not recall".
I genuinely enjoyed playing through both Jak 2 and 3...but as I've grown older, I think the biggest missed opportunity with this franchise was shying away from the world and platforming roots of the original game.
The world of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is SO rich, and while I understand its sequels capitalized on the trends of the time (primarily GTA's open-world structure and gunplay), I desperately yearn for another adventure in the vein of the original game:
Not Jak 2, but Jak & Daxter 2.
Awesome comment! I totally agree!
Jak and daxter, Mario 64 and OoT have all had this treatment and it's great. While true naitive pc ports are unreasonable for all games, and emulation will be the only option, the ones that have gotten it are all classics and I am so happy to see all this work put in by dedicated fans
Literally putting together a similar video for OoT as we speak. Its awesome seeing these fan made ports doing all these classics justice
Jak is my childhood hero. To this day I’ve always tried to emulate him, what ever that may entail.
Oh no, poor Praxis
I’m loving how much RUclips is recommending me Jak and Daxter videos, wish it were sooner!
The thought of Jak 2 and Jak 3 alongside this makes me so hype, tho i know we probably won't see either till 2024
Thanks to #Ruh for making a new tutorial, make sure to check out their channel and subscribe if you are interested in all for what mods in this port look like. New tutorial is in the description, but linked here as well to make your life a little bit simpler 🙂 ruclips.net/video/p8I9NfuZOgE/видео.html
im ready for 2
Jak 1 is the best one, IMO. Fantastic work from everyone involved. Stunning.
This is the future for game preservation (at least for 5th and 6th gen games)
I really want to see more of this in the future, PC ports with Quality of Life improvements for games like Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Fatal Frame etc.
(I would include Nintendo games, but we all know what they do when people emulate or modify their games)
I hope that Sony or Naughty Dog don't sue the devs or cancel the project.
Well I’ve done a video on ocarina of time and planning another one on a Mario 64 decompilation, and it seems like if they are careful about how they go about it, it actually makes it really tough for ND, Sony or even Nintendo to take these projects down
nintendo cant ever really stop people from emulating, not as long as they refuse to properly rerelease some of the older games in the way companies like playstation has (by my understanding sony hasnt "properly"" taken anything down like nintendo has. iirc you can still access some of the older playstation stores - but the same cant be said of nintendos eshops.)
you can still find plenty of pokemon hacks, for example, and the pmd sky modding community was running strong last i saw.
but yeah nintendo does make it hard for there to ever be anything big.
Epic game I play over and over again to this day in my launch day 2000 PS2!
It just goes and goes and goes!
I have never played this game before, but i gotta say it looks amazing on PC. only marginal visual improvements, true to the artstyle, no fancy post-processing effects, raytracing lighting bloom pissfilters, just relying on the inherent visual qualities of the original game. Well done.
Definitely worth checking out dude, all the links are sitting in the description!
This is actually nuts. I can't wait to see the kinds of mods that come out of this. I'm excited to see if Jak 2 and 3 get ported, that way people can mod those games and make them better than what the devs intended.
Whoever did this could and should make big money for themselves doing quality remasters like this. Very seamless.
We need a decompilation of Ape Escape
I would love for the same thing to happen to R&C, Midnight Club 3 & something like Goldeneye
Bro midnight club 3 is such a good shoutout, freaking love that game
@@HowGoodGames it's not too long and has the right amount of difficulty to it. Easily my favorite PS2 era game. I play through it again every now and then thanks to emulation, I would love a remake though sadly this is probably the most likely way to see it on PC natively.
@@tombstonex3244 take two would harass the family members of whoever decided to reverse engineer midnight club even if Rockstar isn't making a remake
This is the endgame of game preservation and a true mark that your game is a true classic. First Mario 64 now Jak and Daxter.
Absolutely amazing, never thought this would even be possible. I still rely on PS2 emus for the trilogy.
Well once they are all ported they can all be successfully retired. Really great stuff by the OpenGOAL team!
RPCS3 works pretty well for the Jak games too so may wanna try that in the mean time cause RPCS3 has achievements and FSR upscaling.
I came back to rewatch this video, and I’m so stoked to see it’s performing well! Really happy that you’re giving such good publicity for this port. You’re definitely playing a part in getting people interested in these old games again
Yeah it is very cool to see how many people have now picked it up and given it a go, absolutely stoked!
I've treasured the copy my parents bought me in 2001. I've played it many times, but I never thought about a PC port. I also didn't know that Naughty Dog made an entire language for it. Andy Gavin always finds a new way to impress me.
Yeah, ND were the best in the biz at optimising their game code
I only played Jak 3 as a child and remember loving it. I should really take this opportunity to go back and play the other games in the series.
As someone who really likes weird and interesting programming languages as well, the GOAL language looks really cool. Huge props to the team to be able to opensource a compiler for it.
Its really quite incredible what they've done. You should check out their website, they have made a lot of their work very open to anyone wanting to learn more about the language itself too!
Shoutout for youtube recommendations because this is a thing i didn't want to miss because i am a huge fan of the series! I played it first roughly 13 years ago.
Well enjoy it mate, it’s been a long wait but it’s a fantastic way to go back to it!
I'm so happy about this haven't played this game since 2006 and only recently got to replay it thanks to the PC port
i hope to see the rest of jak and daxter games , including jak X perhaps! i would definately donate money for each game!
Yeah hopefully they get something up and running so people can contribute! They already have confirmed they are going to port 2 and 3 already, but undecided on Jak X right now
just a note at 6:38, CPUs with the AVX instruction set are needed (CPUs from around 2011)
Thanks for calling it out, I went with what was on the FAQ's with their statement that most modern CPU's will be capable of running instead of trying to get into the specs, but linked the FAQ in the description for everyone curious too!
After booting up the vita version years ago and getting pissed at how awful the conversion was. You could definitely say this new version was a grandiose step up for me
That’s basically like saying I was blind but now I can see. Huge step up
I cant even beat J&D 1 on psvita. Jak cant hold on to the moving playforms in the last map, and i was forced to give up
@@christiangottsacker6932 I uh...100% my vita file. God, it sucked. Though I did homebrew my vita to unlock the frame-rate. It helped, but I do not recommend playing that version lmao
@@fudgeofdarkness2518 yeaaaaah i believe you did but im not tech savy enough to care... at least its not like ratchet and clank where beating thr first game gives you perks in your next playthrough or the sequels.
I still remember how massively disappointed I was at the Vita port, especially with how good the Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper ports were on Vita. I wonder if Naughty Dog's weird code is what made it such a trash port.
Jak 2 is my favorite of the trilogy! I really want to see how it will be on pc
I'm going to look into it more for future videos but as far as I'm aware, yeah it is the first PS2 one! I'd recommend sticking around on the channel if you're interested in this topic, Im working on a Ocarina of Time video to post hopefully tonight and going to take a deep dive into other fan made ports in the next few weeks!
now we need the ratchet and clank trilogy pc port
You know this is a good game you love when watching someone else play and miss orbs triggers your ocd XD
Really nice to see Precursor Legacy get this love.
I’d kill for something like this for Sly Cooper and The Nightmare Before Christmas Oogies Revenges on the PS2
im now finding out about this wtf!?
as someone who still owns a working ps2, this is still a crazy godsend, as I love this series, and wish that it had the support the fans wish it had, and this has inspired be to get that usb dvd drive I've been meaning to get for all this time
If they can finish 2 and 3 I will never play anything else in my life.
A lot of Common Lisp fans have been curious about GOAL for some time - this is pretty cool for us too.
Bloody love that there are Common Lisp fans out there
Almost made my dad cry. He's playing his childhood game right now. 10/10
In my simple brain it would make sense that some of the code would have been reused so if it has already been decompiled then it would be a lot quicker to implement or just iron out bugs for 2
This is actually amazing! I can relive my childhood on my pc so glad that I'm not the only one who loves this series!!
Great to see not only there are other people that love it, but other people who love it that are actually super smart and can do this sort of thing
I'll wait till they finish the whole trilogy as I like to play all the way through. But I'm so excited!!!!
Wish this existed "properly." If this was on steam, it'd be an instant buy.
A Steam release would be worse though, since it'd be bogged down with Steam's DRM.
I just want the cinematic character models used as the character models when playing.
Especially from the beginning of Jak 2 before everything kicks off, that’d be dope!
Consider the following:
Model swap the Jak & Daxter Models with their Jak II or Jak 3 counterparts. The improved, less angular, more distinct versions. If it's apart of the same engine, then it should be possible, right?
So glad I found this runs and looks amazing in 4K
My childhood is being brought back to life before my eyes
1:55 i grew up playing jak n daxter i am now 25 and i had no idea thats how you break those boxes lmao
*Are they gonna do the same for Ratchet and Clank?*
Got a PC port at the time time I bought the trilogy on my sister's PS3...
Well……… surprise? If it makes you feel any better, even though you can’t use those files, you technically should own a copy of the game to legally play this so you definitely check that box!
Woe this is utterly insane! I just have to wonder just how dedicated those guys have to be to be willing to learn a new coding language and then rebuild a game using that knowledge
very dedicated would be my guess
It would be so cool if someone made a Endgame mod with some new hard areas after beating the regular game
That would be rad. Go check out Ruh on RUclips, they’ve made some awesome looking mods already and gives you a real idea of what might be possible
"your usual mom and pop shops like" .... *names two giant companies*
Sometimes my humour impresses even me
Literally bought the game on Thursday for my ps5 and got the platinum trophy tonight, then this pops up. What a coincidence!
That’s still worth it because we take platinums seriously in this house. While you’re fresh off it, I’d boot it up if I were you, would be keen to hear your thoughts on how it plays after just coming off it on ps5! (All my ps4 comparison shots were captured on ps5 too)
MASSIVE respect to the team for making this port, and big respect to you for reporting on it, great video
I’m just happy more people have the opportunity to check it out! Stoked I got to play a small part of it, enjoy the port my friend! This team has done an incredible job
Jak and Daxter in 12k? Okay.
I have been wanting a PC Port of Jak and Daxter for YEARS! I am so excited to play this and equally so for the future ports!!
Well the wait is over my friend. All the links you need are in the description!
I hope ratchet and clank and sly cooper get ported to PC next!
This is crazy awesome. I'm a massive fan of the Jak and Daxter series, but I wouldn't have ever tried to take on such a massive task as this. These kinds of things are incredible.
And the people who made it, even more incredible. Make sure to get the links from the description and give it a go for yourself!
It’ll be cool if they released a prequel. There’s so many mysteries about the precursors that were left unanswered
Finally! I thought I'd never get to see these ported to PC, but hell yes!
I’m so glad it’s going to be the whole trilogy as well, all the links are in the description so make sure to check it out!
I was playing this game earlier today on PS2 and I caught fish just like that. I found it really easy.
Now we can see the Lurker shark in full 4k, my Thalassophobia was in need for a kick after all these years.
I forgot about it and almost ran in to it when I was getting footage and I immediately regressed
I only played Jak 2 and was one of the best games I've ever played, and beat. This first game still looks really good. The stylized look stands the test of time.
This is the news I've been waiting for 21 years!!!!!
Imagine if, once they're all done, they do a small update where you can get them all at once and have a selection screen like the HD edition on PS3, meaning you wouldn't need to fully close the game if you wanted to swap from one to the other.
Oooooh that’d be nice as
@@HowGoodGames It would be cool if they implemented that screen now, and if you wanted to add more games when they get around to doing them you just add them to the file.
I don't doubt a bit of code changing would be required to add that screen, and an area to place the other games so the game files don't just mix, but it would still be cool.
Really hoping they use this to create the levels that naughty dog weren't able to finish before production
I am shocked this video was recommended to me because I had forgot about this game entirely even though I used to play it religiously as a kid, guess I can relive all those memories now!
Well I’m glad you got to see it! Definitely download it and have a crack, everything you need is in the description 😊
Loving that decompilation is getting more frequent, with Mario 64 and OoT, Jak is another great addition
Let’s hope we see more
And more
And more of it!
Can't wait for Jak 3 especially, was my favorite when growing up
this is the type of conversion I would LOVE for the sly cooper series!
Same here dude, that would be so sick
were subtitles always in the game cause if that's just in the PC port than that automatically makes it far better. Idk why but putting subtitles in the game makes it just looks so much better.
I don’t remember off the top of my head, but they are able to be toggled here with square which I know is a new thing. I can’t recall subtitles in the original though
Can't see all the modding and graphics improvements people will make now! I love it! I used to use emulator that I barely set up and still had bugs to play it, with some crashing here and there
Love the enthusiasm for this all, the team look like they're doing great work.
They definitely are. Check it out if you get the chance too, it’s well worth some time seeing for yourself!
@@HowGoodGames I just got it running there. That was so easy to set up and runs a treat. Holy shit why has Sony not done something on this level yet, my god.
Man, imagine this team getting their hands on the original Ratchet and Clank quadrilogy.
I also had no idea this existed until I saw this video. The only decompilation projects you hear about really are the Nintendo ones. Really excited to see the future of this!
same here, I hope we see more and more for other franchises as well!
Damm that brings memories, Jak & Daxter has the most cozy atmosphere
Yeah, such a zen game
Thanks for sharing mate. If you want more nightmare fuel, someone already modded that area to make the swamps red like blood so that’s fun
The Fish Port was a NIGHTMARE!!
Holy shit these games were my childhood... They're even doing jak 2 and 3???? HOLY SHIT... Have they told anything about Jak X as well?
6:00 Calling Steam and Epic a "mom and pop shop" is like calling McDonalds a little dinner on the corner.
Yeah and Costco is my corner store, I will never not find a sarcastic comparison amusing haha
I just completed it to 100% the other day with absolutely no bugs or glitches at all! Very much worth the hassle of setting it up!
It’s gotten even easier to setup now, it now has a full launcher to install it, much more similar to a regular game
Hey look, it's in color now!
