I kinda hate that the Freedom League shields were cut, it would've helped show the difference between Torn's leadership valuing the lives of his soldiers and the Baron's leadership treating the Krimzon Guard like cannon fodder
It really sucks that the hellcat was barley used. I would have love to drive them around the city like in Jak 2. But with opengoal we can bring some things back maybe. Giant dark jak is one example.
I love Jak 3, but seeing these videos makes me wonder how much better the game could have been with more time in the oven. It seems like the war in Haven City was going to have a lot more going for it. Thank you for these uploads as always.
Yeah exactly, this game really could’ve been so much greater than it was. You can see in many ways how they wanted to focus on scale. Big wasteland, big bosses, big war. Everything was just going to be bigger and better

First time i saw this masterpice - i really thought that THIS is the best game out there and PS2 becomes my personal best console, ONLY cuz Jak 3 was in it. I've been following Open Goal for a good while now and my God you guys are absolutely slaying it with Jak 3 (I'm assuming you're also working on that project in some capacity). It's my favorite of the trilogy and I honestly can't wait to play it.
I love your videos so much. Each one seems like a new childhood scientific discovery of what i wished to explore about this game but never possible before
I mean, half of this stuff is clearly unfinished. The giant robots are the most obvious case, and guard shields seem like a placeholder for the riot shields or something like that. They just copy pasted the Dark Maker shields onto the guards. Makes me wish they had another year for Jak 3 so they could flesh out the story better, fix some of the writing issues, and perhaps have even more variation and refinement to the gameplay. Would've been nice to have more to do in Spargus city. For such a rushed game though, it's shockingly good.

I’d love for them to create mods that improve the setting of the pitched battle in the refuge village, with more enemies, new allies, new abilities, and even some texture variations, similar to a mod known as Pedfuncs for GTA SA. It would be great if the guard could have a support tank or something like that.
With this game only being in production for 1 year I wouldnt be surprised if the shields & giant robots were cut very late in the game, considering the robot still appears even on PS2 by way of glitch. The giant robot being removed from defend HQ seems to be to decrease the difficulty since Jak 2 was ridiculed for its difficulty. The Robot seems to be an absolute UNIT to try and fight lol pure speculation on my part. Great work and many thanks to the open goal team & community, saving the best series on PS2!
So I know the giant KG bot is just a scaled up regular KG bot. But I can't belp but feel there was a missed opportunity to give the KG and metal heads some much larger and more imposing units. I feel like the game's apocalyptic vibe would've been even better if they'd done something like that. Like, can you imagine how cool it would have been if during the later stages of the game, the KG and the metal heads start sending in their big heavy hitting units capable of mowing down ten guards on their own
jak 3 has made ALOT of updates since the release of this video, overload 2 is nearly completely decompiled which means cutscenes audio and music is able to be heard!
Probably possible. Guards riding vehicles is mostly just an illusion. But yes it is possible, and I did some tricks to see it. But it is not in the video, nor in the changes that I ended up pushing, because it was an ugly hack.
Nobody can convert a version 7 art group into a version 8 art group, and it is unlikely that it will ever be possible. Best bet would be adding it as a custom art group, but the support for custom art groups was only implemented very recently, supporting simple one-component models for now. Will probably take a while before we can have separate components and collision and animations in custom art groups.
well we already have the early builds of the game surprising that none of them was in any of them for example the july 12th and september 29th build i already know those builds cant be ported to opengoal

It is very easy to add a shield like that to any enemy, but for some reason the code already had it for the guards.
I love how the video starts with "the spawn rate of fat people was too low". Already this video is a 10/10.

There are still references to dark giant, but I didn't look into it yet. I don't expect everything to still be there from Jak II.

Its model is not present in Jak 3.

Crazy how you can get it to spawn but don’t know what it is or how to make it appear.
It spawns as a giant if there is a specific flag set. I couldn't find where this flag is set. But it was easy to remove this condition.

Yes. And it is also the same shield that the Titan Suit (Dark Maker Mech....) uses.
If the giant robot was half its size would it work better?
Size is not the main issue. It is literally invulnerable. Can only be damaged while rolling. But it rarely ever rolls.

The project is fully open source so you can do it if you build the project yourself.
