These MIGHT Replace Snaps?!
Buckleguy has created a slim magnetic closure so sleek it might just replace using other types of snaps in a lot of the pieces I make. These magnetic snaps are perfect for so many different types of leather crafting projects - The smaller ones are perfect for slim bracelets, the larger ones hold strong enough to keep wallets and bag pockets closed. The best part is there aren't any tabs to fold or things to sew in - they simply attach with a smooth rivet cap like a single or double cap rivet, looking and feeling nicer than a normal snap (line 20, etc)!
Is this the replacement for snaps as we know it? most definitely not, at least not in a universal way. However these magnetic snaps are a great alternative and innovative piece of hardware that will vastly extend the life of a leather piece and reduce stress on the closure points, so I plan to use them more and more as they're even easier to install than regular snaps :)

I remember when magnetic closures were going to replace all the lobster claws and box clasps on jewelry bracelets. One teeny tiny issue: they attach themselves to anything steel and people would walk off with their bracelet hanging from the shopping cart handle or iron pipe railing. Even if you noticed in time it was a nuisance. This might be fine on a purse, but not a wrist.
Thank for that warning. I’m almost make a bracelet with magnetic closure, gonna find other options now.

Ive been using those for my bracelets and some small gusseted business card holders ive been making, i love them. Magnets are surprisingly strong.
Vlog-style video suggestion: I would love to see a video of you going over all of the bags and pieces you keep on your wall to display. I know we've seen a lot of them (maybe all of them) being made in videos, but I just think it would be cool to see and hear your thoughts on each of them.
Finally an innovation on the snaps. I have the old style magnetic closures, and I also don't like that you have to cut slits, and then cover over the little bent tabs. This is a great move forward.

Around 1996 I was given a leather weekend case that used magnetic "snaps". They've been out there.
I had magnetic snaps that were like this on a school bag in 1992.
I also hate the fold over prongs. But, they have one characteristic the rivet caps do not. You can carefully remove the folding pronged magnets and use them again or fix a problem. Not sure if it is a problem. With the introduction of the smaller, rivet post base, I will never used the pronged ones again. (unless covering them makes sense on the piece)
No worries with the terminology male and female. These snaps are unambiguously a BINARY. There is literally only one or the other and if you try to use two females or two males, the snaps won't work at all for their intended purpose. They'll still look great though.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing this with us. I love Buckleguy’s hardware. Haven’t seen this version of the magnetic clasps. Great idea to use on leather bracelets. Been looking for something to replace the glove snaps on my eyeglass cases I make. Hope they have a hammer and anvil die for it that will work with my Craftplus press.
These magnets have been around for some years now and the "proper" name for them is "Neodymium" magnets or "Super" magnets in some cases. I have been using them for holding doors or other enclosures shut on different types of wooden boxes and other furniture such as obsolete antique wall clock cases and magnetic "holder-uppers" which a person can "stick" on the fridge to hold notes and childrens' artwork in place for Mom and Dad to brag about when entertaining visitors.
This will most likely become the "closure of the century" once they are introduced to the leather crafting world and, in fact, I have been experimenting with using them on some of my leather craft already. They aren't nearly as classy or finished off as the standard magnets available to the picture framing trade, where I initially came across them as a means of holding different products we build from wood molding in a closed position or to hold items in a shadowbox with a front opening door on it, [also held closed with the magnets embedded in each touching surface of the "door" and the shadowbox side], to hold war memorabilia in place on display hooks which can be taken out to show to people who want to touch a "battle knife" and feel its weight, and other magnetic attractive metal objects, etc.. I am finding more and more uses for them as I used them for applications in the custom frame building trade, of which I have retired to pursue other interests in the leather crafting trade in recent years. They appear to be a step up or more likely a few "floors" up in the leather craft trade from the standard use of snaps and other alternatives to zippers to hold "stuff" shut!

I'm gonna have to get those. Some of my line 20 and 24 snaps don't set well all the time and I have to pull or push too hard to open or close them.

I want to add an airtag to a wallet. It will need some sort of closure. Standard snaps are way too thick. Do you think these would work better, or do you have a recommendation for a very thin closure that I could use for an airtag slot?

looks like they have them in 10, 12, 14 and 18mm, Great idea for a safety cat or dog collar.
I think that the end of magnetic strip cards are behind why these are finally catching on in the use. I just wouldn't to put a card with a strip in a pocket near that clasp.

If i get these magnet snaps, is there a risk they aren't strong enough?
As in, do i have to worry about the bracelet falling off easily.
the 10mm is a little bit weak, but has stayed on my wrist just fine. I'd say anything 12mm or above and you're golden when it comes to worrying about the magnet releasing, but even then I"m pretty confident in the 10mm. It's nice to be able to make a bracelet that isn't 3/4" wide with that size

they don't but the tandy dies fit the new buckleguy hand and foot press - specifically comes with holders for all your tandy dies :)

Well, I am afraid that the magnet could damage credit-cards, because I experienced, that hotel-room-key-cards get "erased", when they are near a magnet.

Thanks for another great video. For terminology for the two different sides of the snap you might want to use the words that I have been trying to switch to for electrical connectors, “plug “ and “jack” or “plug “ and “socket “.

What's new about the magnetic buttons? I have been using them in Germany for several years. They come in sizes 12mm, 14mm, 18mm and in the colours gold-plated and nickel.
Another thing: if you put a skin patch around your middle finger on your right hand, the nicotine discolouration will go away after a few days. It looks really disgusting and in this day and age smoking is frowned upon anyway. And groom yourself for once, you still had little bits of food in your beard.

Umm...the first thing you do is pain the house to a neutral color. Trust me, loud, dark, unusual colors that people think is special or stylish is a bad thing when selling your home. It cost them thousands when closing, because they will pay for painting then.
