Thank you for your video! I needed to replace a snap, and your video is the only one I found that actually showed a close-up view of which pieces go where. (I mean, it wasn't hard to figure out, but as a first-timer, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything!) So, thanks again!

Thank you much for making this video! I lost a snap off my jacket and bought snaps at Michael's without a clue how to fasten them. When I opened the package the instructions just said "use tools" no description or specifics, you saved me from getting frustrated and it came out perfectly!

I was having so much trouble getting one half of the snap to stay on. The first half went on great and then the second didn’t seem long enough for the leather I was practicing on. I’ll just have to go get some larger snaps. I was able to complete the snap when I put the part that I was struggling with on a thinner piece of leather. Thanks so much for a detailed video, that didn’t go too fast and actually made sense!

What do you do with decorative snaps to protect the decoration on the head of the snap? I can see it getting damaged when you hammer, how do you stop that happening?

I was hoping to install snaps on my jacket in conjunction with my broken zipper after seeing all the tools needed. With this video, it may be best to take it to a zipper repair shop.

You should always use the anvil because it is curved so when you set the snaps it curves the edges inward so the sharp edge can’t scrape against your skin and dig in to you or catch on to material and tare it

Do you know what the more permanent rivet things are called? They look the same but are not meant to come apart the way the snap fasteners do.

What do you use on your tabletop while hammering to protect it???
I have been setting this in with the Tandy tools and a rubber mallet and doing the same process but my male side snap is still moving. I’ve even hammered down pretty hard to test that and it’s still completely loose. It’s literally jumping around even if I do press down with my finger the minute I take it of it still moves. I don’t know how it stays and I’ve watched a few videos now and the stick part is coming through the leather and is snug hole wise as well...

the post for the button side of my snap does not reach through my 1/8 inch leather and cant find any locally is there a website where i can find variety

You mentioned not using these snaps for load bearing.. I am worried using 6 snaps to hold 20lbs is too much. What type/style of snaps would you recommend for a 20lb piece snapped to leather (20"x24" tall). Think the size of a native American breast plate but heavy (metal and leather) - Thanks!!

What type or size or brand of snaps would you recommend and in order to make western style big buckles removable and interchangeable on a particular belt blank?

To avoid hitting knuckles with the hammer when making the holes and if people cannot access the alternative tools could I suggest a different method? Consider using a pair of pliers to hold the hole punch steady whilst hammering. I do this with panel pins and still have all fingers intact :)
Vice grips are even better for holding a punch where you might maim yourself with an errored swing.

@tiffanytiffany2010, You'll need a Dremel or similar tool with a beveled stone grinding tip to grind off the folded over post. Thats why it's so important to make sure it is in the correct position within the project. The Dremel grinder will remove the post in under a minute, so its not as bad as it sounds. Hope this helps ✌️

What ounce leather do the snaps work best for? I work mostly with 8 to 9 oz leather but I do have a project coming up with a 14 or 16 oz leather. I purchased some snap Fasteners from Amazon and they are junk I am in the process of returning them but I am having difficulties finding the right snap fasteners for the particular leather that I am working with
I don't think these snaps would work on such a stiff leather: perhaps sewing in a piece of strapping to attach snaps to, or skiving the leather thinner where the snaps go

Usung a short shaft tool,,, get you a pair of pliers, vice grips, needle noose pliers or something of that nature to hold on to the smasher rod and no more worrying about smashing hand / fingers.
Hey Yvonne, please for the love of snaps, help me. 🤣🤣🤣 The small one you showed in the beginning is somewhat of what I have. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried putting a snap in to one of my purses. (ruining one) I am using a regular standard hammer. Am I using the wrong hammer 🔨? Idk. I almost threw the whole box of snaps across the room. 🥺 Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 🙏🏻
I'm not sure if this would be much help anymore since you posted this months ago. Anyways, if by "regular standard hammer" you mean one you would use for woodwork, or say you need to hammer in a nail around your house to hang a picture, then that is the incorrect one. You would need to use a mallet. It's softer on your metal tools (so your tools last) and I find it to be more precise so you're not wasting snaps and possibly ruining leather projects. Do you know how long the snaps last on something you would wear everyday?would it work for easy in and out on one of your leather bralets?
over 30 years on a leather bracelet I made in junior high school.
Christina BlackFeather cool thank you. Dose the leather stretch around the snaps over time? I love the leather brackets the Yvonne makes and wear but my hands so not work well some days because of MS. And even crouching can be a challenge. But I do know her bralet has last a longtiime. Which would save money. And easy in and out like snaps seem like it would work great.
I used a medium tooling leather to make mine in school. The snaps are not loose at all. A thin leather would probably stretch a little. I don't use snaps in much of my stuff. I'm a fan of antique buttons like from the civil war. :)
Hubby is going in wednesday to see if he has MS. He's having so much pain walking that it's getting hard for him to work. :( And I know about the hand thing. I have that issue myself. :( *hugs*
