This was awesome. and I love the way you are embracing the Matrix and Back to the Future in your videos. Nothing better than future you jumping in to add color commentary. This was a great project and I loved being able to see a different way to use these molds to design and fashion a while different kind of product!!!

Really nice build! One thing if you were going to make several of these is to get a 3D Printed version of the die mold top piece with a slit put into it for a cut line to make it the same every time. I am working on a die for a wet molded shaving bag right now.

If you have an extra like $15 and a Dollar Tree and some thrift stores nearby, you can get some inexpensive cutting tools and glues and whatnot at the Tree, and find some leather pieces, coats or handbags, at low prices from the thrifts. Depending on what you want to make it could get you started. Sell some stuff and build up your bank until you can get to where you want to be.

    • @TheLivingBlobfish
      @TheLivingBlobfish 2 года назад +5

Here's how I got started, and it seemed to work well. It's a $40 plan to get $100 worth of product on your first go.
I started by just making journals, with only these things: paper, thick thread, and sheep leather. Sheep leather is the key there, it's far cheaper, and far more flexible, like cloth. You can stitch it to the front page and back page for a bit more stability. The only tools I needed were scissors, (which work fine to cut the paper and sheep leather) a nail, (to punch the few holes) and a needle, for obvious reasons.
Usually sheep leather only comes in full hides, but it costs about the same as a panel of nice cowhide, and you get far more out of it.
So the cost of all of this:
      Leather: $20
Thread: $6 - $7 (this gets you some color variety too)
Paper: anywhere from $7 to $15 depending on what you want
      Needles: $1.50 - $5
Scissors (if you don't have any already): $4 - $10
Ruler (if you don't have one already): $2 - $7
and you can just use any pointy strong-ish thing for the poking part. Maybe even a toothpick!
You can get about six 5x8 inch journals out of this. There are REALLY easy to follow tutorials on this platform, and the journals themselves are really simple to make. If you sell each one to friends and family for $20, you could make $120, but you might mess up on at least one, so realistically you'd only get $100. That's still a $60 profit, which you could use to expand your hobby.
I highly encourage exploring leather, it's been so much fun for me!

@@Corter Hi there, I didn't want to make this it's own comment, because I remember you saying something about why you never show your face, so I wanted as little people to see this as possible, to leave that disclosure decision up to you. But just so that you know, at 31:08 you can make out your face pretty clearly in the closure reflection.
From what I can tell, you have a nice face!

Couple of things please. what , where are your stitching chisels, I have had no luck finding a decent set. What knife are you using? Is it a Xacto?
This is first time I have heard of that sticky back stuff you are using.
Already ordered the empty paint markers from buckleguy, I watched you use them on another video.
Now to find those molds. I do not have a cnc or any clue how to use one. My home made molds leave much to be desired.

@@Corter That will be cool to see how you make a mold for that or are you thinking of wetting the flap and molding it too the lower? Other Idea would be to make each pocket cover and then join them together, I think that the stitching might make that even look very cool.

Thanks! And probably not - thread isn't stretchy, so you'd either rip the leather or the thread trying to wet mold it probably. Glue only I'm not sure about but the leather does stretch so if it did work, you'd probably get some weird stretch lines and stuff as the inner liner stretches on a tighter radius than the outer piece around the curves
