    The BEST (and WORST) Leather Pocket Styles
    Making Pockets in your leather crafting projects can be a bit confusing, so in this video we walk you through 3 of the most popular types of leather wallet techniques. we show you how to do the T pocket (probably the most popular), the french style overlapping pocket, and our least favorite not-so-lovingly-dubbed the Lazy Pocket (not a great design).
    We've included a free pattern featuring the overlap pocket design, and if you'd like to make a bifold wallet with T pockets the second link will bring you to that - every pattern with pockets on our website features T pockets as well so you can pick and choose if you want to try different styles!

    for some reason i thought you were going to talk about the shape of the top of pocket, meaning dont make it in the shape of a W, but this was cool too, would be nice if you had somewhere for us to post our creations that your videos helped us make, personally because of your videos i have ALOT of card holders, and i just finished a tote bag with a liner I made for my wife. Thank you very much, your videos are clear and very easy to follow.

    Good video. I think that lazy pocket (without the lining) would be okay on a one or maybe 2 card wallet. If the depth wasn't deeper than one card, then you'd be okay. Not that I would do it that way, but yeah, could work.

    I've been with this channel for a while now and I miss the good old times before this was "Weaver Leather Supply - The Channel". I understand you want to make money, need to make money even, but you have several videos where making money or talking, directly or not, about money seems to be the main point, and it's just...tacky.
    And then you got that tryhard stuff you sometimes do in seeding the comments with questions like "How much would YOU pay for X?". Most of those blatantly "give me money" videos always have top comments mentioning this. Just try to make good content and the rest will take care of itself. Right now it seems like you are just running down a checklist titled "How to maximize your youtube revenue"...

    • @Corter
      @Corter  3 года назад +5

      Hey there! i'm so sorry you feel that way, and I appreciate the feedback. I'm just a little confused because we don't talk about making money at all in this video? The first pattern linked in this video is free, it doesn't cost any money and you don't have to sign up for anything or do anything else to download it.
      I'd love to take your criticism constructively to make our videos better if you could offer some clarification, I just can't remember doing many of the things you're mentioning - We don't leave any top comments or pin comments for example (that would be super tryhard, I agree with you lol). Are you referring to a different channel maybe?

      You’ll get a feel for it. I use veg tan for 90% of everything I do. Definitely for anything tooled, you’ll need to use veg tan Wallets and smaller more delicate goods like that, I usually use like a 3 to 5. Sheaths and holsters around an 8oz. Bags and and cases and such 8-12 oz and I try to use 12 oz for tooling but you can get decent depth out of 8 oz if you need to. I think that’s kinda what I tend to use most of the time.

    I had a LV wallet for nearly 4 years, and it had lazy pockets lined with material! also after a year or so it started to flake off the outside layer revealing a stitched synthetic backer for a cheap leather look alike material! I was really bummed that $495 got me a bunch of fake material, lazy pockets and no real durability for EDC. If your going to spend big, make sure it is real leather!! Thank you for this video man, I know its a few years old. I've been watching you for years now and finally got into the craft as a side job! It's been an amazing journey!!

    I had to watch a couple times to understand what you meant by "splitting a seam" with the T-pockets. I kept thinking there was something to do horizontally with the final assembly and made it way too complicated. When I stopped the video at 13:57, you are pointing RIGHT AT the issue. Doh! I guess you need to base your T height on the pricking irons you are using to prevent that or do you just place the iron in such a way that you are good to go? Thanks for the great video! I really appreciate your efforts to educate and inspire!

    I tried to make your bifold wallet, but I dyed the leather using Tandy oil dye, and even with really deep scoring of the glued surfaces the contact glue has very hard time holding the leather together. After I sew the seams, it still easily splits on the edges that would be burnished and doesn´t last any normal wear. Is there some kind of glue that would not be do useless in combination with the oil soaked leather?
    Would maybe dyeing the leather far in advance before using it help, like a month?

    • @Corter
      @Corter  3 года назад +1

      what sort of glue did you use? and did you coat the leather with anything after the dye? I'd usually recommend barge or some sort of contact adhesive, but if you're oiling/coating the leather with something after you dye it you might be sealing it off too much for any sort of glue to stick, that's all I can think of. Dye doesn't usuall affect a contact cement as you're describing in my experience
